Traditonal events are connected to natural heritage and crops. Every year on St. George’s Day, the patron saint of Piran, the festival of salt is organized to honour the famous salt produced at the Sečovlje Salina. The city is worth a whole day tour. Portoroz Portoroz is Slovenia\s bathing place by excellence. It is crowded and everywhere you have paid parking. Portorož has an old toruism tradition. Together with Opatija it was one of the mo0st pouplar tourism mdestinations in the Habsburg empire. The Austrain emperor came here to relax. It developed into a Spa twon and nowadays you have a perfect Spa bath in the center of twon. You find all kind of saunas. In its spa and wellness centres, you can renew your energy throughout the year, even during the coldest winter months. The beach is well-maintained and you can go swimming in the beautiful, warm Mediterranean sea where the temperatures, warmed by the summer sun can get up to 31 °C. Also, there are several bars on the beach that offer a lively atmosphere year round. There you can treat yourself to a cup of fresh coffee after a long walk on the beach. Numerous restaurants by the sea invite you to a tasty lunch or dinner. If you like to party, then you will be excited about many interesting events. Families with small children and couples looking for romantic pampering and relaxation will both feel comfortable in Portorož. Sport enthusiasts can challenge themselves on the tennis courts, sport tracks, in sport halls, pools and in the sea. Businessmen and businesswomen will enjoy the modern conference centres located by the sea, only a step away from relaxation. Between Portorož and Piran, there are two architectural jewels. These are the historic salt warehouses of Magazen, Grando and Monfort, listed as both cultural and historical heritage. Only a few years ago, ships carrying salt were docked at the nearby pier. They were built in the time of Napoleon between 1820 and 1845. Nowadays, Monfort no longer stores salt but is an exhibition gallery and is part of the coastal regional galleries for modern art. Here in the salt magazine, there is also an exhibit that shows the development of water sports throughout time in Slovenian Istria and you can also take a peek at the world of traditional shipbuilding. On the hilltop, where the hotel resort Bernardin is situated, you can visit the ruins of a church from the 15th century. Enjoy cocktails on the high terraces of the hotels in Bernardin. From there, you can see far out to the open sea, and to the Croatian and Italian coasts. IZOLA A little bit more relaxed than busy Portoroz is Izola. You have to park the car on one of the parking at the outskirts of the town. In a few minutes you reach the center of town and the main beaches. The old Mediterranean town of Izola lies on the south-west shore of the Gulf of Trieste, where the genuine traditions of fishing and winemaking, mysterious traces of the past, and the welcoming character of the locals merge together to form an unforgettable mosaic of experiences. The town's warm-spirited and romantic character help attract visitors and it is said that once you have visited Izola you will never forget it. The stirring history of this little fishing port has created marvellous architectural treasures and ancient legends that will carry you back to the time when Izola was still an island. You can sense the spirit of the Mediterranean at every step as you pass through the narrow medieval streets, watch the boats bobbing in the harbour, enjoy a friendly chat with the locals, and savour seafood specialities washed down with good local wine. With a variety of sports and cultural events and entertainments taking place throughout the year, drawing their inspiration from old customs and traditions, you will never be bored in Izola. Museums, galleries and artists' studios will lead you into the world of Istrian arts and crafts, and if you are seeking true spiritual refreshment, you will find it on a boat trip on the waves of the Adriatic. Izola is surrounded by picturesque countryside with numerous valleys and long hills – an area full of gastronomic pleasures waiting to be discovered in a wealth of traditional inns and farm tourism establishments, most of them offering marvellous views over the Gulf of Trieste. FIVE REASONS WHY TO MARRY OR CELEBRATE IN VILLA EUROPA You’ve probably heard about beauties of Slovenia, especially for the world famous towns of Ljubljana, Piran, the Lipica horses and the Postojna caves. Yes, Slovenia is a beautiful country in every step and gives you a lot to see, feel and taste. But when it comes to the weddings, you should choose Istria and we assured you our place is a top accommodation, at the perfect spot and we have at least five good reasons to convince you. 1. Perfect climate with a lot of sunny days and a great hospitality The geographic position of one of the most beautiful peninsulas in Europe is perfect when we talk about climate. Together with Opatija it was one of the mo0st pouplar tourism mdestinations in the Habsburg empire. The Austrain emperor came here to relax. It developed into a Spa twon and nowadays you have a perfect Spa bath in the center of twon. You find all kind of saunas. The SpaceThe apartment is one of the three apartments of the astonishing Villa EUROPA . The abundant living space, the surrounding nature, the absence of traffic and industry, the sound of just nature, the spectacular views, make staying in Villa Europa a true sensation. The villa has been built under architecture, inspired by local Istrian and Mexican architecture. The inside floors are all marble, the outside floors are Venetian floors, made of nature stone found in the region. A stay in this apartment will be an unforgettable experience. Guest AccessArrival information Villa Europa First of all Welcome in Kostabona, the Good Coast, a small village in the heart of Slovenia. You will be welcomed by David, who is our local host. Most of you will come with own or rental car. If not ask about public transportation from airports of Venice, Trieste, Ljubljana or stations of Koper, Trieste or Sezana to Koper and/or our village. Koper is easy reachable non-stop by highway coming from Italy, France through Venice, Trieste. Coming from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Czech Republic and Slovakia the preferred highway is through Ljubljana. Think about the highway vignettes for Austria and Slovenia. You buy them at the gas stations before entering the countries. Once you arrive in Koper follow the road to Pula. Going this direction you find after three hundred meters on your right side a mega supermarket Mercator, where you might buy food and drinks for the coming days. Check in time is preferably between 3 and 4 pm. But we are flexible. Check out time is at 10 am. Karin will say good bye. There are no cleaning costs if you stay four days or longer. Cleaning at the end of your stay is appreciated. You will find your necessary utensils for a comfortable stay in your room and kitchen. Cleaning of house, sheets and towels is once a week. If you like an extra service at extra costs (15 euro) you ask Karin. If there is any problem during your stay call Karin as well. You have cable TV and internet. You go to Kosta and your password is Amersfoort. You have the main house, the Tuscany House, two apartments on the side of the swimming pool, called Istra Apartment (upper one and Dragonja Apartment (lower one) and the Kars Apartment downstairs. All apartments have airco. Please use it with discretion and put if off when you are not here. The swimming pool gets cleaned automatically every night. Sasha inspects the pool once weekly. In the morning you might collect yourself with the pool net some insects and leaves. There are parasols and outdoor seating. If you use a parasol, please close them every night and/or when bad weather comes. If not we have to look for the parasols in the valley. There is a common barbecue grill for all guests. Please clean it after using for next guests. If you leave the doors or windows open during night with lights switched on, you might be accompanied by some annoying mosquitos. A clever dark-light policy will help you to avoid them. Fruit or food rests in the kitchen will attract flies easily. A clean kitchen may help a lot. A baby/child bed can be arranged at no extra costs upon request. The apartments are basically for two persons. The main house sleeps 5 persons. In the Kars Apartment and the Tuscany House an extra two-person bed can be placed at an additional charge of 15 euro a person a night extra. You may stroll down to the beautiful village below you, Kostabona. The village is situated above the Dragonja River. From the cemetery you have a beautiful view on the Dragonja valley. According to tradition, this place used to be the site of an antique temple dedicated to Bona Dea, goddess of healing, fertility and maternity. This was supposedly the reason that the parish church was later dedicated to saints Cosmas and Damian who were also saints of healing. The name Castrum Bonae (castle of Bona, the goddess) relates to the goddess worshiped by the sick and the dying in their ignorance hoping that she would restore their lost health. As there was a sanctuary built in her honour in this place, the village received the name Castrum Bonae, later Costa bona or Koštabona. The village was walled in and fortified with a defence tower in the sixteenth century. The defence tower was to protect the area in the event of war. In the 19th century, due to the presence of the Italians and their influence, an Italian primary school came in the village. There are still three churches in the village. The first and the largest used to be a pilgrimage church dedicated to the saints Cosmas and Damian, martyrs and patrons of health, the second to the blessed Elias and the third was the cemetery church of St. Andrew. There are numerous preserved holidays and customs in the village relating to these churches and their patrons. From the village a windy road goes down to the Dragonja River, where you might take a refreshing bath. Enjoy your swim and stay! Koper is your nearby coastal town. It has its own beaches and several megamarkets, where you can buy all you need for a comfortable stay. Each morning you find a lively market at the beginning of the beach boulevard. Koper, Italian name Capodistria is a Venetian town, like the other beautiful coastal town Piran. Koper's 15th Century Praetorian Palace is located on the city square. It was built from two older 13th Century houses that were connected by a loggia, rebuilt many times, and then finished as a Venetian Gothic palace. Nearest sandy beaches are in Strunjan and Porto Roz. In Porto Roz you find lots of beach bars and restaurants. For small children all kind of paid and unpaid playgrounds. You pay mostly access, but find showers and shadow. In the beautiful Venetian mini-town Piran you have a quay with sea access. Parking in Piran is expensive. You have free bus rides from Portoroz to Piran or you leave your car at the garage before entering Piran. Near restaurant Ribic, a recommended place in Sicciole you have free access to a rocky beach with an open nature free accessible fitness place. The restaurant is a great attraction after some hours of bathing. I sit always in the middle of the terrace surrounded by five olive trees. Ask for the place and say you are recommended by Robert from Kostabona. All the mentioned beaches are at 20 minutes distance from Kostabona. Nearest restaurants in the neighbourhood are Tri Lojce for a good pizza or a small bite and Istranova in Padna for a beautiful view over the valley. A nice hidden, but already mentioned restaurant in Sicciole is Ribic, the Fisherman. You sit between the olives on a small peninsula overlooking the sea. My favourite place is Restaurant Pavel in Piran, the beautiful Venetian coastal town. Tell you are recommended by Robert from Kostabona and that you should ask for 10% discount. Parking in the town is almost impossible and very expensive (5 euro an hour), but the parking garage just before entering the town offers a free shuttle service to the centre of this town. Theatre Bar in Piran is the perfect place to enjoy a drink overlooking the Gulf of Piran. In Portoroz you find the best ice-cream in Bar Cacao. The nicest cocktails in the tropical setting of Alaya beach bar. A nice excursion is Grozjnan just across the Croatian border. Avoid Saturday and Sunday as you will be stuck in traffic jams passing the border. In Britignol, Croatia you find a quite expensive gourmet restaurant, called San Rocco, with nice local wines. If you like the wine, Karin and Sasha will offer you, you might want to visit the vinery caves of Santomas or the small, but nice cave at Vinales. Ask Karin and Sasha about it. Same apllies for the olive oil, you will receive. You might like to visit the production place, one of the largest and the oldest olive factories in Kravce. Ask Karin and Sasha. If you go out for a day to Ljubljana our favourites are restaurant Spajza near the castle and Pri Vitezu along the river. Interaction with GuestsNatasha has a long experience in guest services. She speaks English, Italian, Slovenian and has a limited fluency of German. The NeighborhoodVILLA EUROPA is situated on a hill and overlooks the valley of the river Dragonja, the border between Croatia and Slovenia. Right under the house is the historical village Kostabona, a small village with 100 inhabitants and three churches. The changing light on the village is a source of inspiration for every photographer or artist. On the other side of the valley the view from the house reveals around 10 small villages with their churches. On the east side of the villa the view reveals the Kars Mountains. Beautiful during dawn of sun and moon. On the west side of the villa the view reveals the historical town Buzet and the Adriatic sea. Other Things to NoteAdditional info: No minimum stay required. The pool gets weekly maintenance. Garden and villa get weekly maintenance. Linen will be refreshed weekly and/or before arrival of new guests. If you wish another rhythm tell it to Natasha, the housekeeper.
