The SpaceWill suit guests who love nature... wild and peaceful. There is a 17km dirt road, winding through dairy farmland and windfarms, to reach this quiet tucked-away village with its un-tarred roads and 6km of pristine beach. Enjoy scenic nature walks, dolphin watching, hiking, coastal foraging and fishing, horse riding, a beautiful hidden rock pool for safe swimming and amazing dunes for sand-boarding. Perfect for evening cocktails on the deck as the sun sets over the ocean. Malaria-free game reserves are under 2hrs away, the Storms River suspension bridges and the worlds highest bungee are an hour away - easy day trips. This small, friendly village has a lively and reasonably-priced local pub and restaurant (not open Mon/Tues/Thurs) with an amazing sea view and just one shop selling basic foodstuffs, a limited range of alcohol and fishing tackle, plus an ATM and a tiny but good butcher. Nearby tourist towns of St Francis Bay (20 mins drive) and Jeffreys Bay (35 mins drive) provide banking, bars, restaurants, shopping malls, cinemas etc. Guest AccessGuests have their own access, and enjoy full use of the top floor of the house and the secluded double-BBQ area for outdoor dining. This includes a huge deck with fabulous 180 degree sea views and a large open plan living room / dining room / kitchen. Comfortably sleeps 4 adults in 2 double bedrooms (and there is a 3rd twin bedroom, if preferred). If guests only need one bedroom, then the other rooms are not let out. Guests share one lovely big bathroom with large shower and separate bath. Also, there is an outdoor hot and cold water shower that beats any indoor shower on a hot day! Interaction with GuestsGuests can decide how much interaction/privacy they want. We have our own en suite downstairs with a private access - so we're on hand to prepare any meals (on request), assist with guest needs and provide information - or guests can enjoy privacy and self-catering if that's what they prefer. The NeighborhoodThe friendliness of the locals, the beauty of the beach, the peace and tranquillity - and the fact that it is one of the safest villages in South Africa with a non-existent crime rate - make Oyster Bay a hidden gem. It has the natural beauty of the famed Garden Route but without tourism, traffic, overcrowding and other problems! Once you arrive you can put away your car and your worries and walk everywhere. Getting AroundThe dirt road to Oyster Bay varies - sometimes smooth and sometimes rough - but any vehicle can reach this area. Please drive carefully on the dirt roads.
You can reach Oyster Bay via the dirt road directly from Humansdorp (23km) or from St Francis Bay (17km). The preferred route is to head for St Francis Bay, then take the Oyster Bay road immediately after crossing the Krom River (just outside St Francis). It is 17km (approx. 40 minutes, travelling at about 50km/HR in a hire car) to Oyster Bay once you reach the dirt road.
A car is necessary to visit nearby tourist sites, but once in Oyster Bay, everything is in walking distance. Other Things to NoteAlso available for your use: flatscreen TV with all channels, DVD player + a small selection of videos, dishwasher, washing machine, boules and kubb for games on the lawn, outdoor double bbq, outdoor shower, games and puzzles.
