Our green mission.
Here at Liedjiesbos we consider ourselves part of the environment, we understand that there are others who share our planet and so try our best to accommodate everyone.
There maybe beautiful bird sounds early in the morning, a rooster or frogs late at night, you may hear the resident owls or see the odd spider. We won’t apologise for these natural noises but ask you to please enjoy them with us.
To be as environmentally friendly as possible – which is our aim – we put off all outside lights at 22:00 each night. There is a torch in your room incase you need it.
Most of our green food, flowers and fruit are grown on the premises. All our other supplies are sourced from within 200km from us – abiding by the policy of the Slow Food movement.
We use water sparingly and ask you to help us by putting your towels on the rail if they are clean enough to use another time or in the bathtub if you wish them to be replaced.
All our food waste is given to our worms or processed in bokashi buckets and in turn used for compost in the garden.
Please enjoy our indigenous garden, we are proudly South African when it comes to our environment and invite you to be inspired!
* Should you wish to join our green initiative, indigenous trees can be bought from us for R100 each, we will donate it to a needy school in the area.
Liedjiesbos Guest House is one of those rare finds that make you feel special – like you have discovered a secret. With this gem, just 3 kilometres outside Bloemfontein however, you will want to keep it all to yourself! The owners, Dawie Human and Henning de Bruin are passionate about making a difference in saving the environment that we live in and their efforts can be seen in every aspect of the business, the indigenous gardens, rain tanks, vegetable gardens and environmentally friendly home, architecturally designed by one of Bloemfontein’s top architect practices – Smit Architects. The owners have been inspired to plant and only indigenous plants, and to do things as organically as possible. This stretches to the accommodation, slow food, bath products and supplies.
The buildings on the property used to be unsightly barns that are now beautiful architectural structures blending harmoniously into the Free State landscape. The buildings where designed to use as little energy as possible for heating and cooling of the interiors and most of the original building materials where re-used or recycled. Energy saving devices and solar geysers where also installed to reduce the carbon footprint.
The interior of the main building reflects the owners’ love for art, antiques and travel. The décor is a blend of old and new, African, Egyptian, Chinese, Vietnamese and more. All this creates an interesting environment with a chic, yet well lived in, and comfortable feel.
Not only will you feel pampered and special at Liedjiesbos – it is also a convenient place to stay whether you are in the City of Roses for business or pleasure, or indeed just passingthrough. Conference centres, the city centre, Loch Logan Waterfront, Mimosa Mall, hospitals, schools and universities as well as tourist attractions are all within a short drive.

Slow Food is exactly the opposite of fast food, and that is why we go to great lengths to try and source the freshest local organic ingredients in season. We then make sure that we cook it with love and care, slowly….
Our cooking style is “Boerekos” with a slight twist. The type of food we would eat daily on the farm on which I grew up on. Food like my mom use to cook, the type of food we still prefer to eat today.
Things to remember when booking dinner:
1) Please book your dinner at least a day in advance as we can not, and will not, whip up something at the last moment.

3) Dinner with a set menu is served from Monday to Friday at 19h00, excluding public holidays and long weekends.
4) Please make sure to let us know of any likes, dislikes and food allergies you may have.
