The SpaceSyringa Sands is located in the malaria free Waterberg biosphere, 250 km north of Johannesburg, offering great wildlife and photo opportunities. The farm boasts a wide variety of plains game including impala, busbuck, blesbok, waterbuck, gnu's, kudu's, giraffes, zebra and eland. Birders may see many different kingfisher species, owls, fish eagles and Cape vultures as they nest in the Marakela mountains close to the farm. Last, Syringa Sands is managing a roan antelope breeding program, guests are invited to come along and see what is done on a daily basis to increase the number of these ToPS. (Threatened or Protected Species) Guest AccessOn Syringa Sands guests can enjoy extensive farm tracks for walking; a small boat on the dam, mountain bikes (by prior arrangements), the "lapa" (shelter) at the dam and smaller dams (rainy season only) for swimming. Interaction with GuestsSean and Alex, owners and managers of Syringa Sands live and work on the farm, their house is about 2km from the holiday home. They enjoy sharing their farm and wildlife experience with you and will gladly take you along to see the game, check out the roans or take you for a walk in the mountains. The NeighborhoodSyringa Sands is remotely located in the middle of the Waterberg mountains. The nearest neighbor is more than 2km away and the nearest towns, Vaalwater or Thabazimbi are at a distance of 45km.
Within a 50km radius there are many points of interest. Guest may enjoy a visit to Marakela National Park; sign up for a horse or elephant back safari; check out the Cheetah and Wilddog Center or spend time souvenir hunting in Vaalwater. Getting AroundAs in many rural areas in Africa, there is only limited public transport available. However, Alex and Sean can fetch you at the airport, you could rent a car or make use of a reliable taxi service called waterbergtransfers.
