All of the rooms are spacious, and the two luxury rooms have an en-suite bath and shower. Traditional farm cuisine or a Karoo-braai can be enjoyed under flawless starlit skies. We also cater for special diets. Our spacious home is a place of true peace and we invite you to escape the crowds and come and relax with us. We recently expanded our beautiful guesthouse on demand. The “Vellewaenhuis” – meaning – ‘The Shed’ in Afrikaans, was converted, and now boasts 3 new self-catering chalets. These units are modern, and ideal for a family stay. If you enjoy good old fashioned Karoo cooking (with a modern twist), then our Guesthouse farm kitchen is for you! From fresh eggs from the farm, to delicious Karoo lamb and seasonal veggies…. your taste buds will be spoilt! (Please note that no meals are included. We have a variety of options available on request and at an additional cost) Guest AccessOn this beautiful farm there are more than 80 different bird species, as well as the protected Blue Crane, and the endangered Black Eagle. There are also several sites on the farm where Bushman art is prolific. (Some of these sites contain unusual Rock “etchings”.) Our uninterrupted terrain is “heaven” for mountain bikers; as we have a very nice single track with a rating of 9/10 by Cape Epic Cyclists. There is a nice running trail too, and you can take long meandering walks in the “veld” here. There is a communal farm dam too, which is a MUST in Summer! Our neighbouring farm is ‘Noblesfontain Wind Farm’ which has recently been completed, and guided tours to the Widfarm can be arranged. Enjoy champagne on the mountain and enjoy the beautiful sunset views! Other added bonus’s to the Guesthouse is the quaint little Dollhouse for the kids to play in, a Gym and Personal Trainer on hand, as well as a qualified Medical nursing sister. Interaction with GuestsYour hosts at Desert Dew Guesthouse, are Henk and Erika Marais. They have 3 children, and have lived on this farm for more than 22 years. They love it when guests arrive to enjoy their hospitality, and the beautiful and tranquil farm surroundings. This is a house built between 1830 and 1870 by the first farmers who came to the Karoo. The house is built of stone, even the roof, because there were no other building material, for the Karoo is a very dry region in South Africa. Everyone enjoys the little history of the Karoo and wonder what it was like to live here when they look up in the stone corbelled roof above. Incredible stars at night make it a unique experience wich you will not see at many other places, because it is situated on a farm away from other lights and polution. Me and my wife,Natasha are sheep farmers in the Karoo in the Northern Cape province of South Africa. We have been living for 33 years on the farm. We like to deal and meet our guests in person and make sure they enjoy their stay on the farm. The Corbelled house (the name comes from the building style in wich the roof is formed like) we renovated, because there are only a few of them still standing, many had fallen apart, and they were built only in a small area in the Karoo in South Africa. This is a dry area and there were no trees in those years,so they had to build these houses completely out of stone, even the roofs. Our guests love it to sleep in this piece of history and wonder what it would be like in the old days when they look up into the stone roof above the beds.It is equipped with everything for self catering.Candles are used for lighting to keep the old atmosphere in the house. Situated on a farm in the Northern Cape between the towns of Loxton and Carnarvon in the Karoo,Norhern Cape,South Africa. It is a dry part of the country, scarcely populated with a unique quiet environment. You can do hiking and mountain biking or motor cicling in a very safe environment.
