There are few locations in the Western Cape which remain relatively undiscovered by the local Capetonians. Rivers Own in the Mount Bain Reserve is, however, a rare gem waiting to be enjoyed by anyone who makes the short 1h20min trip from Cape Town to this exquisitely appointed river side getaway. The river itself is your private part of what is the clearest and cleanest water in the country, flowing directly from the surrounding mountains which carry the invigorating stillness and energy so craved for by those hungry for an enriching time out, or holiday. Within 15mins you can be wine tasting, kloofing, hiking, trail running, mountain biking, and just 30mins away you can pick cherries or play in the snow (winter). Even with all these activities so close by, Rivers Own some how captivates many guests who realise at the end of their stay they had no need to move once they were pulled into the spell of the river and its serene banks that demand all day picnics. It’s a surprise to many coming from Cape Town, to so quickly be on the incredible Bain’s Kloof Pass and in these special mountains with fynbos walks, stretches of rapids, waterfalls and natural pools to adventure in, some of the best mountain bike trails in the country, and all the benefits of a special area which is part of the UNESCO Boland Mountain World Heritage region – keeping the area protected and in it’s most natural and unexploited state.

This verdant town offers spectacular scenery beginning at the foot of the Worcester Valley to as far down as the Hex River Valley. Lord Charles Somerset named this place after his older brother – the marquee of Worcester – when it was laid out in the farms Roodewal (red wall) and Langerug (long back) back in 1820. The Worcester Valley is surrounded by mountains, and therefore has a 360 degree view of our beautiful Cape fold mountains. This valley also provides the ideal grape (Slanghoek Valley) & olive (Nuy Valley) farming conditions and therefore we have some of the best hidden olive & wine tasting routes. There are many beautiful drives, taking you across crystal clear cool streams and along mountain sides with the most picturesque views. The town also hosts many sporting events, as well as food & drink festivals. Getting AroundYou will need your own car to visit Summerhill.
