The SpaceGuests love the tranquility and quiet of our suite with its private sunny north-facing patio and garden overlooking the Klein River Mountains. The birdlife is abundant. Stanford Nestle-In is also central to exploring the other attractions of the Overberg, including whale-watching in Hermanus (23kms away) and shark-cage diving in Gansbaai (20kms away in the opposite direction- and also excellent for whale-watching!). We love hiking and cycling and can recommend routes to take and places to enjoy. The birdlife on and the beauty of the Klein river running past Stanford can be accessed via our stable touring kayak for two. Guest AccessGuests have access to a selection of books, board games and a double kayak. Interaction with GuestsI like to interact with our guests on arrival and at any time when we see them on their way in and out - depending on whether I feel they wish to chat and share experiences. The NeighborhoodThere is much I love about our neighbourhood - the tranquility and village atmosphere, the bi-weekly organic produce markets, the enchanting birdlife, the fynbos-clad mountains, the beautiful, kayakable, swimmable Klein River, the variety of mountain biking, cycling and hiking routes close-by, the sea within a half-hour's drive and the easy access from here to other worthwhile places to visit in the Overberg Getting AroundAs there is no public transport guests would be better off using their own or a hired vehicle. There are however airport shuttles and taxis from Hermanus to Cape Town International. Other Things to NotePlease note that our street address is 23 Quick St. 577 is the erf number of the property - you will not find a street in Stanford with 577 houses in it, so do not look for 577! Bedding and bath towels are provided but guests must bring their own swimming towels. A R100 surcharge is applied to single night stays during the week and R250 for over weekends. Minimum stays for long weekends vary from 2-3 nights. The three night minimum includes Easter weekend, Christmas and New Year.

The NeighborhoodStanford, an unspoilt village in the Cape Overberg, features an assortment of Cape Victorian and Edwardian architecture, quaint country lanes and an overall atmosphere of natural calm. Pristine yet laid-back, this heritage enclave is the perfect balm for families needing to escape the city crush. "Stanford is a strong contender for South Africa’s best country dorp. A short drive from its more touristy neighbour, Hermanus, it’s got that quiet country charm of pancake stands on the main road on Saturday morning, food markets with organic farm-fresh produce, broekie-laced quaint pubs, and friendly locals. Stanford also offers fantastic restaurants, including the award-winning Mariana’s, a wine route with some up-and-coming wineries, and a renowned microbrewery. There’s a wealth of activities for outdoorsy types. Just beyond the town are scenic mountain biking trails, there’s canoeing and cruising on Klein Rivier, and Salmonsdam Nature Reserve has scenic hiking trails amongst mountain fynbos, forests and waterfalls. There’s something to please everyone in Stanford, and coupled with its convenient location in the Overberg (it’s close to Gansbaai, Elim, Cape Agulhas and De Hoop Nature Reserve) means that if it’s not at the top of your dorp to-do list, it should be." This luxury villa is located 6km East of the renowned whale watching town Hermanus. Situated on a private estate in between mountains and a lagoon, the property gives the feeling of water and life flowing down the mountains, through the gardens and into the house. The Water House is perfectly suited to a large family and was originally designed and built as a home rather than a property for rental; personality and character shines through the architecture of the house and in the art that fills it. optional cleaning @ R250 per day The Water House sits in between mountains and a lagoon (shown if you use a satellite view rather than a map view) - a truly picturesque setting from which it takes it's name. The SpaceThe spacious chalet-style cottage has 3 bedrooms: a double en-suite and two twins with a shared bathroom containing bath and shower. All towels and bedding are provided. The main living area is open plan with plenty of room so that you are not getting under each other’s feet. It comprises a dining area with large 8-seater table; a kitchen with fridge-freezer, gas stove, microwave and other essential items; and a comfy sitting area with views up to Phillipskop. The sitting area has a log-burning stove for the cooler months, and the cottage is supplied with solar hot water, including electric back-up so that you never run out. There is the essential braai area on the mountain side of the cottage and a large deck on the valley side, so that you can take in the views. Guest AccessThe reserve itself is available to explore, whether it is just a gentle walk around the slopes to the waterfall, or a more adventurous hike to the cave, rock stack or even the peak of Phillipskop itself. Flowers abound throughout the reserve and if you want to learn more about the unique fynbos that grows in this part of South Africa then you can request a guided walk. Phillipskop Cave is an important local heritage site, as it boasts the only rock art on the Cape Whale Coast. Interaction with GuestsSomeone will be on site most of the time, although we may be out exploring the reserve. Please use the cell phone number to contact us. If we are out at the time we will come and see you as soon as we can. The NeighborhoodThere is a lot to do in the neighbouring area. Boat trips, especially good for birdwatching, can be organised from there along the Klein River. Further afield, there is Hermanus, with its whale-watching, or Gansbaai, for shark-cage diving and boat trips to Dyer Island. Getting AroundThere is about 3km of dirt road after you leave the tar. This is usually in good enough condition for any vehicle to negotiate. Once on the reserve, we have installed concrete blocks and although steep, even small cars are able to reach the cottages without much difficulty. If there is very heavy rain, then the bridge can be washed away. The reserve can still be accessed via the Stanford Hills road but please ask us for details.

The popular Klein River Cheese Factory is just below the reserve, with its famous picnics on offer during the summer months and play area for children. The Birkenhead Brewery, various vineyards and restaurants provide plenty of opportunities to engage your taste buds. The old town of Stanford is lovely for a historic wander or to enjoy the various local markets that are put on through the year.
