The SpaceOnly accessible by rowing boat or canoe (provided), our holiday cottage offers direct access to the beautiful secluded Kaaimans beach, the waterfall and unique river kloofing. The cottage is basic, rural & for those who enjoy being in the outdoors & getting off 'the grid'. People who like camping and hiking will love it here. Well-behaved pets are welcome by prior arrangement. The property is not fenced. The river provides a barrier so that dogs cannot reach the road unless they swim. VERY NB: Local Guests Arriving by Car: Guests need to bring duvet covers, pillow cases & towels. We only provide: 1x double duvet inner (no cover); 4x single duvet inner(no covers); 6x pillows (no pillow cases) and sheets on the beds. If you forget your duvet covers and pillowcases, we will provide some at R150 per cover and R50 per pillow case - to be taken from the deposit. Please don't forget to bring the covers. We do not want to provide covers if possible, as it is a challenge to do full laundry for all this linen with our limited resources on the other side of the river. VERY NB: Overseas Guests Arriving by Air: Despite my note above about the duvet covers and pillow cases, should you wish to use our duvet covers and pillow cases then please request this up front. We will do our best to make a plan to accommodate this. We understand that some visitors are arriving by air from overseas and cannot travel with linen/bedding. VERY NB: Guests need to bring petrol to run the generator for lights at night. It uses 1ltr per hour. This can be purchased 5 minutes away at the petrol garage in the Wilderness. They provide containers (thus far always been free of charge) to carry the petrol in. VERY NB: Guests need to bring washing up liquid, washing up cloths, loo paper and soap. VERY NB: Guests need to bring towels. The cottage is rural and for those who enjoy being in the outdoors and getting off 'the grid'. If you prefer luxurious hotel settings, then this is definitely not for you. People who like camping and hiking will love it here. If leaves fallen from trees onto the outdoor stoep (porch) will bother you, or some mud on your feet now and then, then you are probably not suited to this type of accommodation. The cottage is basic and its attraction is its "away from the world" location. This simplicity and natural beauty, and lack of Eskom electricity make for its charm, but also mean that visitors must understand the associated limitations. Guest AccessYou rent out the entire house. The space will all be yours for the duration of the rental, private and unshared. You park your car adjacent to the N2, next to the river within view of the house. You then row across the river in the boat we provide to access the cottage. We have a manager who can help you learn to row. Interaction with GuestsThe house is unmanned. There is a manager (reachable by cell phone) at a nearby cottage on the river who will meet and greet and get you settled in. You can reach Lizette on her cellphone if you have any queries. The NeighborhoodThe house is in the middle of nature, but yet still only 4km from Wilderness or 10km from George. Situated on the Garden Route you get the best of both worlds. You can get away from it all or you can use the house as a base for a myriad of fun activities: Paragliding, horse riding, outdoor adventure tours, canoeing, surfing, waterskiing, hikes, swimming in the sea, bird watching, whale watching, dolphin watching, visit the Knysna Forest or the Woodville Big Tree (over 800 years old) inside Wilderness Nature Reserve. Nearby there is the Sedgefield flea market on Saturdays. For Golf lovers this area hosts some of the most stunning golf courses in the country, including the Fancourt Links, where the 2003 President’s Cup was held. Getting AroundThe house is only reachable by boat/canoe (provided) and you will need your own car to get to the boat. Other Things to NoteThere is no microwave. There is no television. There is no ADSL. You can get cell phone reception and we recommend that you have a car charger for your cell phone. A generator provides electricity at night after dark. Petrol for the generator is for the visitors to supply. The generator uses approximately one litre per hour. We recommend that visitors also bring head torches as these are incredibly convenient for use when the generator is not running (e.g. if you want to get up in the middle of the night for a bathroom visit). We are close up against the mountain so there sometimes can be are a small number of spiders sometimes in the house. They are of the flat type that you get in the Wilderness. They stay against the walls usually near the ceiling and stay away from people. There are typically between 0 and 1 per room. We are near the N2 - so you can expect some traffic noise especially over peak season. The best months to visit are November & February (weather good, lower traffic), following by December & January. Please wear shoes after dark. We are close to the mountain and close to nature. If you were camping or hiking in the forest, you wouldn't walk around barefoot after dark. We recommend the same approach.

The Space But lets kick off with The Forge - a romantic nest combining high octane wow factor, solitude, rustic elegance and easy living. Ever so carefully restored, The Forge features yellowwood beams, percale cotton linen, soft wrap-around towels and oodles of rustic-romantic ambiance. Sleeping a possible family of five, the main bedroom has a double bed and elegant furnishings.A further three single mattresses can be found in the loft room - but if we were you we'd pretend to ignore these as the Forge is all about lurve and romance. The open-plan living room with fireplace and fully equipped kitchen take the concept of open living to a new level: roll up the canvas sides and you’re dining and cooking el fresco, to a view of sweeping lawns and forest views. It gets better. Try out the shower: open-air and more fantastic views over forest and river. Maybe a little breezy for some in bad weather, but hey, that's the price you pay. Moving on to the new five-pack of family cottages, these were once home to Oakhurst’s workers, many of whom worked this land for generations. In tribute, the cottages are aptly named after their colourful characters. Kween’s Kaya, Awies Attic, Leenies Lair, Hans’s Hollow and Nick’s Nook are identical, with landscaped lawns and views over the surrounding forest. Each has three bedrooms (a double and two twins) and shared bathroom with shower. The living room, with wooden floors and wood burning stove, is open-plan to a small, fully-equipped kitchen. Leading off from the living room is a generous deck with built-in braai area and dining table - yet another perfect spot for that glass of fine red and a roaring fire. Easing the logistics, free-range eggs and fresh milk from the dairy are available on request, and Wilderness itself is also not too far down the way, as are a couple of decent restaurants. The farm has several interesting historic relics - the quaint Oakhurst chapel takes centre stage and is well worth a pop-in and serious contender for your own big day. Nearby waterfalls, farm trails, a gold mine of mountain biking options, are all up for grabs. “The Forge at Oakhurst is the loveliest place we have ever stayed in my opinion!” says one guest. It's not hard to see why. Go on then, treat yourself. endless walking trails, fantastic mountain biking on the farm and surrounding areas. Kids can enjoy the Jungle gym area, dam for fishing and freedom to ride bikes and walk in a peaceful and safe enviroment As little as possible Guest AccessAccess to all the walks on the farm, the single track for mountain bikers young and old. Fishing on the dam, visits to our commercial dairy.
