Ideal for those wanting a relaxing getaway, the villa is situated in a stunningly beautiful location on a hillside overlooking Koggala lake, just over a mile from the beach and 25 minutes from Galle, but in total tranquillity, far away from the noise and crowds. Set in a 1.5 acre tropical garden, at the end of a finger of land extending into the lake, it is accessed via a 200m track through the cinnamon plantations which are the only neighbours.
The villa is fully staffed and our villa manageress, Sonali, speaks excellent English and will ensure you have a wonderful time. She is also an exceptional cook and will prepare all your meals and shop for you, if you wish. All dietary requirements and preferences can be catered for. Meals are not included in the rental price, but the only additional cost is for the ingredients and transport.
Completed in mid 2012, using antique doors and windows and gaining a National Construction Association award, the villa is a mix of traditional charm and modern comforts, laid out to maximise the glorious views across the lake. The villa is naturally ventilated, benefiting from an 8-15m elevation over the lake and its cooling breeze.
Entering the property you have fantastic views across the infinity swimming pool to the lake and the extensive garden which surrounds the villa. The main living room has a comfortable sitting area with 3 large daybeds, cool polished cement flooring and grand staircase going up to the first floor. The fully equipped kitchen with 2 large fridges is accessed through an archway while the other end of the sitting room leads you to an air-conditioned TV/games room with a 49 inch TV screen, extensive hard drive film library and surround sound system with a DVD player and an I-pod dock. There is also a range of games and plenty of reading material. 4G WiFi with up to 5Gbs/day usage is also available.
Panel doors open out from the kitchen and sitting room onto the 20m veranda which forms the main outdoor dining room and living area. The 10ft dining table comfortably seats 10 and the seating area has plenty of loungers, chairs and a large coffee table, all overlooking the 15m x 7m infinity pool. All outdoor floor surfaces (including the inviting pale green slate of the pool) have been chosen for comfort and are non-slip under your bare feet.
Bedroom and bathroom details:
All four bedrooms have views of the lake and have ensuite walk-in shower rooms, with solar powered hot water and rain showers. All have mosquito nets and are cooled by ceiling fans, floorstanding fans and natural ventilation, as airconditioning is unnecessary, due to the location. Two bedrooms are located upstairs, offering a panorama of the whole lake. The master bedroom (7.5 x 6 m) has wooden flooring re-laid from two antique houses and a 4 poster superking size bed. Bedroom two (5m x 4m) has a polished cement floor and two large single beds (110 and 115cm wide), which can be pushed together. Both rooms have 4 poster superking size beds and overhead fans. They share a vast balcony with built in seating to either end and a wooden balconied central area with wooden loungers which forms the perfect spot to relax and take in your beautiful surroundings. Upstairs balcony doors may be left open at night, allowing you to wake up to the glorious morning light on the lake.
The third bedroom (5 x 4 m) has its own veranda and sits alongside the pool. It has a superking four poster bed.
The fourth bedroom (5 x 4 m) is situated garden side, offering a particularly private location closer to the lake. It has a private veranda with seating and a superking size four poster bed.
All bedrooms have lockable wardrobes and there is a wall safe in the main bedroom.
The garden attracts a variety of colourful birds from kingfishers to peacocks. Monkeys and monitor lizards are regular visitors and a special attraction is the evening fly-past of hundreds of fruit bats, as they circle the lake on their nightly flight to the inland jungle to feed. On a clear night the lack of light pollution makes stargazing a must.
Chill by the lake and call out to the local fishermen for their catch of prawns, fish and crab and have Sonali prepare them for you. Alternatively, go prawn fishing on the lake at night and catch your own dinner. Take a boat trip on the lake (either motorised or local catamaran). Walk down the cinnamon track and along the road to the long, sandy beach (around 25 minutes), stopping to chat with the local schoolchildren. If you can tear yourself away from the villa, the World Heritage site of Galle fort is about a 25 minute drive away and makes an enjoyable day out. Whale watching, diving & snorkelling, temples, wildlife safaris, beaches, shopping and restaurants are all easily accessible and transport will be arranged on request.
Arrive by sea plane from Colombo airport and land on the lake, 15 minutes from the villa, or transfer by road in about 2.5 hours.

All doors are doubles and the carport is linked to the main house by a flat path. Guest AccessGuests will have exclusive use of the whole villa, garden and pool. There is one small, locked room where the owners' personal belongings are stored. Interaction with GuestsWe will normally meet guests on arrival and departure and will provide a contact number. We are usually within 20-30 minutes drive of the villa while guests are in residence. The NeighborhoodWe have no immediate neighbours other than cinnamon plantations. There is a small village at the back of the inlet to the side of the villa, but the prevailing sounds come from the peacocks, families of monkeys and the gentle chanting from the nearest temple, drifting across the lake. It is a paradise for wildlife enthusiasts and birdwatchers, with over 50 species being recorded by one recent group of guests.
If you can tear yourself away from the villa, the area provides plenty to do, whatever the length of your stay. There are numerous beaches, where you can enjoy swimming, surfing, snorkelling, diving, watersports, etc. Within 1- 40 minutes from the villa you can go whalewatching, do yoga, a canoe or cycling tour, visit Galle Fort, Koggala Lake boat trip, spice gardens, temples, tea plantation, turtle hatchery, get close up with elephants, etc. Further afield are the national parks at Yala, Udawalawe, Sinharaja and many more, but if all that sounds too strenuous, just curl up in a hammock with a book, or have a massage. Getting AroundTransport, either by tuk tuk or minivan, is easily arranged on request. Please note that access to the property is via a narrow, unmade road/ track with cinnamon plantations on each side. A long, narrow 12 seater minivan can get up the track, but nothing larger. In the event of any problems we will bring guests and luggage the final part of the journey by tuktuk.
