The SpaceThe Leatherback Lodge is a refurbished country home. This room comes with a private balcony which over-looks our backyard of lush coconut palms and mango trees. Equipped with a queen sized bed, shower heater, mosquito nets (which we never have to use) and ceiling fans. Guests are free to pick and enjoy any of the seasonal exotic fruits on the estate which includes coconuts, mangoes, bananas, oranges, portugals, grapefruits, guavas and many more. Guest AccessGuests have access to their bedrooms, the porch, the living room and of course the dining room which is down stairs. The entire estate is also free for guest to wander around, just feel free to explore as much as you like. Being located in the countryside we provide all meals since there are no restaurants or fast food outlets available. Room prices include continental breakfast (cereal, milk, fresh fruit, yogurt, juice, coconut water, fruit juice, tea and coffee). But we can also provide a mouthwatering local breakfast upon request at an additional cost. Interaction with GuestsFeel at home while you're at the Leatherback Lodge. We are available most of the times since we live on the lodge. Neville can take guests on any of our close to nature tours which includes nature walks to a number of our crystal clear rivers and amazing waterfalls. We also provide tours to a number of our warm water beaches and if you're planning to visit between March to September you can have the once in a lifetime opportunity to witness the spectacular experience of the leather back turtles coming to Matura Beach to lay their eggs. Matura Beach is one of the most famous beaches in the world for this spectacular event. The NeighborhoodOur lodge and property is located on a very quiet country road. Vehicular traffic is very minimal. Occasionally you may hear the sound of hunting dogs and hunters at night and sometimes during the day. Being surrounded by rain forest there is a lot of wildlife in the nearby forest and hunting is a way of life for some locals. There is just one household opposite our lodge owned by a very quiet older couple with one dog "Willie". Other than that there are no other neighbors at this point. Guest can enjoy a early morning or evening walk to catch a glimpse of some of the exotic birds that habitat the surrounding rain forest. We even have our own little waterfall within walking distance about 5 minutes, which is good for swim. Getting AroundParking is free for guests with their own vehicles. For those without vehicles we have 2 cars and provide transportation for guests at a fee. We also do airport pick ups and drop offs and charge the same as the airport taxis. The only difference is we greet you with a complimentary rum punch, a cold beer or fresh coconut water. Public transport is not reliable in the area. If you wish to take a trip to the capital city Port of Spain, which is about one and a half hours from us, we can drive you to the nearby town of Sangre Grande where you can easily get public transport to do so. Other than that we provide tours and transport to guests who are interested in exploring. Other Things to NoteWe accommodate 6 guests at a time (1 couple per room) so we will need to do some planning and compromising when it comes to tours and food. We only provide one menu per day for dinner and lunch but will try our best to accommodate guests with special dietary requirements. Let us know a few days before you arrive so Nella can head to the market to get supplies. Oh we also have a cat called "Rio" and a dog called "Dot". Rio loves people and thinks he's a dog. Dot is a Belgium/German Shepard pup born on June 30th, 2015 so she was 6 months old on December 30, she loves to go on hikes with us if guests approve of her tagging along. We also have a ping-pong table for guests to enjoy.
