The SpaceAlaskan log home near Fairbanks, in private, quiet, sunny location, great view, and close to the University and town. Experience real Alaska in comfort! Ideally located on the outskirts of town. Accommodates up to six people. The house has two bedrooms with very comfy queen beds and a loft with a queen futon. Travelers often refer to the log home as a 'cabin', probably because of the log construction, but the place is a log house with full amenities-- running water, full shower, two bathrooms, washer and dryer, beautifully equipped kitchen, standard oil furnace heat (but also has a high efficiency, clean burning wood stove), etc. Located in a quiet residential setting on the outskirts of College, Alaska. Twelve minute drive to the University, 15 minutes from the airport, and 20 minute drive to downtown. Enjoy the Aurora Borealis from the deck or hot tub, explore your creativity in the ceramics studio, check out the wood-fired pizza and bread oven, go sled dog mushing, or drive to the Arctic Circle, Brooks Range, Arctic Coastal Plain, Alaska Range, or the internationally renowned Denali National Park or Chena Natural Hot Springs. See the Trans-Alaska pipeline or visit the amazing Fairbanks Icepark in winter. Lots to do within easy reach! Free high-speed wireless internet, nice office work space with a view of the Alaska Range, fresh eggs daily from the chicken coop (Oct 2014 chicken update-- chickens have moved on to their next existence, and the chicken coup will be filled with new baby chicks in spring 2015, but we still get fresh eggs from the neighbor's chickens in the meantime!!), espresso maker, and fresh garden goodies and berries (when in season). Snowshoeing, hiking and mountain biking trails out the front door, and ski trails nearby! Watch a movie on the big screen, and enjoy the comfort and ambiance of the wood stove. Peaceful, private, relaxing setting. Makes a great getaway, or home away from home! My interaction with guests varies widely, depending upon guest preferences and needs. I enjoy meeting guests, and hearing their travel stories and experiences. I take extra care to be sure my guests have what they need, and that they have an excellent Alaskan experience. The neighborhood is quiet, nestled in the forest, and even though my place is located close to town it offers excellent privacy. Hiking trails are right out the front door. Having a car is helpful for getting around, if you want to see the area. My place is an easy 15-min drive from the airport. The SpaceThe home is in a lovely neighborhood with awesome views of the Alaska Range. It is about a 12 minute drive from the airport, and 15 minutes from downtown. The public transportation system is pretty sparse in Fairbanks, so I highly recommend you have a vehicle. I can help you with that if you would like. The upstairs apartment has it's own entrance and bathroom. There are 2 bedrooms in this space. A queen bed in one, and a bunk bed with a double on the bottom and a twin on top. If you are looking for an entire house, please see the listing "Entire Chalet" on AirBNB. By reserving just the upstairs apartment, you will be sharing the common spaces - the kitchen, main living room, and shower area with other guests. I may or may not be present during your arrival. I will always make sure you can get in! Chena Ridge is probably the nicest residential area of Fairbanks if you like awesome Mountain and River views. There are nice walking & cycling trails in the area - one right in back of my house. I am only 12 minutes from the airport! Guest AccessThe upstairs has it's own entrance and bathroom upstairs. There is a another bedroom available for parties of 3 or more downstairs. Lockbox is next to the garage. Key code is 4363 Interaction with GuestsI like to give my guests privacy, so will only stop by on occasion. I do like to direct my visitors to local theatre productions, live music, comedy shows, wine-tastings, hockey games and all sorts of other events in town. Fairbanks has a lot to offer the highly social traveler. Especially in the winter. The NeighborhoodChena Ridge is probably the nicest residential area of Fairbanks if you like awesome Mountain and River views. There are nice walking & cycling trails in the area - one right in back of my house. I am only 12 minutes from the airport! Note: There are 2 bedrooms available for parties of 3 or more. The entire house can also be rented for an additional $30/night. Getting AroundPublic transportation is quite meager in Fairbanks. This is a remote, arctic community. We just don't have the population density to warrant an extensive system. I highly recommend guests have their own transportation. I have a 2015 Subaru Outback available for guests. Let me know if you're interested in that. Other Things to NoteThere is no Wi-fi. It's just to risky- in my opinion- to offer this service and risk illegal downloads from my house. The entire house can be rented for an additional $50 per night. Otherwise, this is a shared house. If you have selected the upstairs apartment only, there will likely be other guests in the downstairs apartment. While the downstairs apartment has its own small kitchenette and bathroom, the upstairs kitchen and shower will be shared spaces. You are welcome to use anything in the kitchen, but please return all cookware to its original spot, and be courteous to other guests by keeping the kitchen tidy. Bedrooms are all private, and each can be locked. The downstairs has its own 1/2 bath. However the upstairs shower and living room are shared spaces.

For aurora viewing, there is very little light pollution (mostly the moon). It is a peaceful and secluded place that I'm sure you will enjoy. Located in the forested hills above Goldstream Valley 10 miles north of Fairbanks, the home is at the end of a private road in a sparsely populated residential neighborhood. There are endless walking, hiking, skiing, mushing and snowmachine trails nearby. Located a five minute drive from Ivory Jacks restaurant, Goldstream General Store and Soapy's Laundromat, a few minutes more to The Vallata (fine Italian dining). There is plenty of space for parking.

Our log cabin accommodation is a completely self contained and secluded. It is situated in the Goldstream Valley, 12 miles from the centre of Fairbanks – an area famous for dog mushing and ski trails. Designed to give you a real Alaskan wilderness experience, the Denali Adventure log cabin was handcrafted by your host using local spruce trees. It is located in an idyllic forest setting with a path to a private pond where you can enjoy viewing local wildlife. Every effort has been made to make this cabin a typical rustic and authentic Alaskan cabin in harmony with its natural surroundings. The cabin comfortably sleeps up to 4 people with a double bed in the loft and a fold-out sofa/futon in the downstairs lounge. There is a full, self-contained kitchen. The cabin is rustic but modern. In keeping with the Alaskan tradition of simplicity and low environmental impact, the toilet is a typical Alaskan outhouse. There is a separate sauna and shower building 10 feet from the cabin. There is a woodstove that is used to heat up the water and the shed for your shower. In the meantime there is seating in there for you to have a sauna while this is happening. There is great views of the aurora that you can watch from the comfort of your bed in the bedroom in the winter. There are laundry and garage a mile down the road at the Goldstream General Store, as well as Ivory Jacks Restaurant and Bar. Once a gold rush boomtown, Fairbanks is now Alaska’s second largest city after Anchorage. In the summer, the sun shines for nearly 24 hours a day giving you lots of time to do the many activities such as panning for gold, floating the Chena River, mingling with reindeer and musk oxen, cooling off in an ice museum, or taking a refreshing hike, or be inspired by local art galleries, museums, and historic sites. Late August to April you have a great chance to see the shimmering light of the aurora borealis. In the winter there are host of activities such as dog mushing, snow mobile trips and skiing, as well as soaking in hot pools of Chena Hot Springs. The cabin is located in the Goldtream Valley, 12 miles from the city centre of Fairbanks and the University. There is easy road access to the cabins. You can park outside the cabin. You will need to have your own transportation to get to the cabin as there are no public transport to the area. We have deliberately kept the cabins simple but yet comfortable and cozy. There is no television in the cabins. We wanted to create an environment that brought you back to nature. All our cabins have a low impact on the environment. It is place to come and recharge the batteries and replenish the soul. We are also able to offer you dog sledding and snow mobile trips. You can cross country ski from outside your doorstep onto the many miles of ski tracks. There is also a ski field 10 minutes drive from your cabin.

The SpaceThe space is our finished basement. Depending on your situation, we can accommodate up to 4 people, but here is what we have: One part is separated as a bedroom, and it has a Full bed. The sectional couch in the downstairs living room can be turned into a very comfortable Twin bed (see the photos). There is also a wet bar downstairs. If you want the liquor removed, just let us know. If minors will be staying, we will remove it anyways. If you are so inclined, have a cocktail on us! If you ask nicely, Mike might even shake up a Margarita or Cosmo for you! There is also a Washer and Dryer downstairs. If you want to just wash a load or two, feel free. If you have a ton of laundry, we can direct you to a laundromat a couple of blocks away. Guest AccessYou will have access to our house, less the Master bedroom and bath. Our house is your house. Enjoy the back deck, take a walk along the easement to the Noyes slough, or sit by the fireplace on chilly nights. Interaction with GuestsEither Mike or Mary will either be around or within easy calling to assist you in any way. You can have us as involved as you'd like. Mary and Mike are great resources on things to do around the area, just ask! The NeighborhoodWe are on a dead end street, in a quiet part of town. Most people who live in Fairbanks don't even know that there are houses on our street. We have a double easement behind us, with a walking trail down to the Noyes Slough and a pretty railroad trestle bridge. Our lot is very wooded, with 80' tall spruce trees, but is still close to everything. Getting AroundThe MACS Transit bus line is a 5 minute walk to the end of the street, and the bikepath network is also at the end of the street. From there you can go anywhere in town on foot, bike, longboard, whatever non-motorized pedation you'd like. We are close driving distance to many great sites, easy access to shopping, just a great central locale. Other Things to NoteOur pets are our family. As such we treat them like people. Our 4 dogs let us use their house. We can and will keep them out of the basement while you are staying but they are everywhere else. For no added fee, you can even take them for walks, if you want. The 4 parrots are whistlers, talkers and chatterers, but rarely are they screamers. Several are able to be handled by anyone, but watch out for Rocky!

Examples are vomit or any other bio-hazard situation we are left with, missing, stolen, or broken items. **Considering the limited space in the cabin, and since it is only equipped to sleep 2 people in the loft, we regret that we do not offer the space to more than two adults. People traveling with a child can be accommodated by the child sleeping on the sofa. The extra fee (noted when you book for 3) is for extra bed linens, towels and general usage. Due to the high demand here in Alaska during the summer, our cancellation policy is 5 days advanced notice for a full refund (through AirBnB). Thank you for understanding! Please don't hesitate to contact us for any questions or concerns! Guest AccessParking is available in the front of the main house near the walk path leading to the cabin. Guests have private access to the cabin, and access to the full bathroom through the well-maintained and clean garage. Bathroom use is exclusive to guests only, and is not shared during your stay. The main home, including, but not limited to the kitchen, living room, dining room, outdoor living area (deck) and laundry facilities are not available to guests. We will be happy to provide you with clean kitchen-ware and drinking water daily during your stay or as needed. Interaction with GuestsAs avid travelers and AirBnB guests throughout the US and Europe, we understand the delicate balance of guest/owner interaction. We are happy to provide you with any help, directions, information or advice for your stay in Fairbanks while respecting your privacy at all times. I am an artist, and also work a part time job, so my schedule is sporadic. However, I am only a text away, and will always be available via my phone if I am not at home. The NeighborhoodBarn Swallow Bungalow is located in what we believe to be the perfect Fairbanks location. We are in a quiet neighborhood near the Chena River, accessible by an unpaved, but well maintained country road. Our neighborhood provides ample privacy with access to a variety of eateries and stores within walking, biking or short driving distances. We are 10 minutes away from the Fairbanks International Airport, 7 minutes from a major grocery/shopping center, and only 1 mile or 3 minutes from two lovely local restaurants, the Pump House and Lemongrass Thai Cuisine. In the same 2 mile vicinity we have a convenient store (Just-a-Store), Lulus Bread and Bagels for coffee, breakfast and lunch items. University of Alaska Fairbanks is 10 minutes away, along with the Tanana Valley Farmers Market, and various other restaurants and shops. Our small downtown is a mere 15 minutes drive. If you are venturing to Alaska in the winter months to view the aurora, we are located very close a few out-of-town viewing areas, but you can also see "the lights" right from the cabin. Fairbanks boasts some of the best skiing conditions in the world, as our snow is very dry and fluffy. 10 minutes from the property at University of Alaska Fairbanks are lovely, groomed cross-country ski trails available to the public that span miles and miles. If you enjoy downhill skiing, Moose Mountain is a 20 minute drive away with excellent skiing conditions and spectacular views. We are happy to provide maps and lists of local eateries, stores and places of interests during your stay. Getting AroundWhile our property is on a flat road with a flat driveway, if you are visiting during the winter months it is essential that you rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle. Our roads are very icy and snowy during the winter, and getting around up in the hills is impossible without 4-wheel drive. If you are traveling during the summer months there is no need to rent a 4-wheel drive vehicle. If you are arriving in a car you may park right near the walk path to the cabin in the front of the main house. We are walking distance to a bus route, or you can bike into town easily from the house in a matter of minutes. Other Things to NoteThe sleeping area in the cabin is a small loft accessible by a very sturdy, but small ladder. Persons with injuries or any other ailment that may prevent you from climbing the ladder to the bed may want to reconsider this booking. Since the cabin is only equipped to sleep 2 people in the loft, we regret that we do not offer the space to more than two adults. People traveling with a child can be accommodated by sleeping on the sofa. The extra fee is for extra bed linens, towels and general usage. As noted previously, the bathroom is located inside the main house, only 40 steps from the entrance of the cabin to the bathroom door through the garage. It should be noted there is another small set of stairs from the garage to the bathroom area (please see photo). Our property has a well, so the water is not ideal for drinking. It is not toxic, it just doesn't taste good, so we provide filtered drinking water to all of our hosts via our water filtration system in the house. We have two cats on the property, but we do not allow them in the cabin out of respect for guests with cat allergies. They are shy, but friendly!

The SpaceFairbanks, Alaska is the epicenter of an unusual cultural phenomenon: Dry-cabin living, a.k.a, living without running water or an indoor bathroom! Here, in our cozy cabin, you'll be living a milder version of the "dry cabin" lifestyle (we have running water in the kitchen sink and a small outdoor, RV-type shower although not operational in freezing temps), but no worries, we do have the authentic Alaskan outhouse! Outside is the outdoor enclosed shower on the side deck ( not operational in freezing temps), a path from the cabin that leads to the outhouse and the outdoor fire-pit for roasting hot dogs or smores! :) Interaction with GuestsWe live a few minutes away and will be available if our guests need anything. The NeighborhoodOutside you will enjoy the fire pit, a large open field dotted with ponds and access to miles of mushing trails throughout the adjacent refuge (boots needed in the summer). The cabin is on 80 acres of beautiful woods and hay fields, and we are located near town which is a short drive to local attractions! Getting AroundThe Fairbanks North Star Borough bus stop is located on Farmers Loop Road ( ~ 3/4 mi away) which has stops all around the Fairbanks area. But for folks drawn to the adventure and this unique frontier experience, our cabin will be a good fit. Take the plunge, and experience our piece of Alaska just like many others in Fairbanks! You will be able to cook yummy dinners in our small but fully equipped kitchen, while enjoying the homey feel of propane lamps and the warmth of the fire in the wood stove. You will also get to use a real "outhouse" instead of your typical flushing restrooms... an everyday commodity for a lot of locals living up here in Fairbanks. Soak in our wood burning Hot Tub, relax, and admire the northern skies...! If you visit during the winter, you will be spending the night in one of the very best spots to enjoy Northern Lights viewing in the vicinity of Fairbanks! Winter activities in the area also include dog sledding (we offer private tours on site), cross-country skiing, snow-machining, winter biking, and snowshoeing. During the summer, you will be able to enjoy 24 hours of sunlight. Fishing, picnicking, floating, and hiking opportunities are nearby at the Chatanika River Recreation Area, and the White Mountains National Recreation Area (see pics). THE "OFF-THE-GRID" WAY OF LIFE The cabin is located 5 miles past the power grid of Fairbanks and is completely "Off-the-Grid." How does all this work? *Light is provided with mounted propane wall fixtures; very easy to use and put off an "old fashioned" yellow glow. *The stove is similar to the one you have at home, a propane powered gas range. *Water is provided in 7 gallon jugs that sit over the sink...turn on the spigot and it's hands free. If you need it hot, let it sit on the wood stove. *The fridge is an ice box with blocks of ice in it upon your arrival. *There is no shower at the cabin, but we have a Hot Tub! Take soaps and shampoo into the tub for a nice bath. Water is changed between each and every booking and is usually coming from a nearby river. It is minimally treated in an effort to keep it as clean, and chemical free as possible. *Toilet? Surprise, Surprise...that would of course be an outhouse! Don't be afraid to keep the curtain open, especially with the Northern Lights out. PET POLICY Our cabin is pet friendly, upon approval. Please, notify us in advance if you plan on bringing your pet(s) with you. We do require a $25 pet cleaning fee (non-refundable), and a $100 pet deposit. The pet deposit will be refunded to you the day after your departure, unless your pet(s) caused any damages to the cabin or the property. Also, we ask you to respect the following: - Pets are not allowed on the furniture at any time (unless you bring your own cover and bed sheets to protect the futon and the bed); - Pets must be in a crate if left alone inside the cabin; - Pets can never roam the property unattended; - We do not assume any responsibility if your pet(s) get injured while on our property. RATES Prices listed include a 8% local bed tax required by the North Star Borough. Guest AccessNautique Sky cabin is located about 28 miles from downtown Fairbanks. Access to the Cabin is on paved roads, with only the final 1/2 mile on a well-maintained gravel road. We strongly suggest that you rent a car as there is no public transportation to get to our cabin. A 4-wheel drive vehicle is not required to access the cabin, but is recommended during the winter months. Interaction with GuestsWe will be meeting with you at the beginning of your stay to show you how everything works in the cabin and how to use the hot tub. A cellphone will also be available on-site so that you can call us if you have any questions later on. We provide SLED DOG TOURS (winter only) and KENNEL VISITS (year-around) for guests who are interested in meeting our dog team. Both sled dog tours and kennel visits are very personal experiences as we only offer tours to our cabin guests. Please contact us for more information.
