The SpaceWe have a roomy 1800 sq. ft. home with two extra bedrooms that we really enjoy renting out on AirBnB, mostly to meet other interesting travelers, and also to help fund our own travel/exploration bug.
Our home is centrally located in a safe and quiet lower-to-mid-income family-friendly neighborhood in the convenient "mid-town" section of Phoenix, has plenty of free parking, and is only 2 blocks away from the Montebello Transit Station (including both a bus hub, and our Light Rail commuter train), which will take you to/from the Airport (11mi), Convention Center (5.1 mi), Downtown (4mi), sports events (varies: 1.5 to 22 mi), Tempe / Mill Ave / ASU (17mi), Scottsdale (11mi), Glendale (5.7mi), and so on. We are less than 5 minutes from great walking and biking on Central Ave, and hiking or mountain biking at Squaw Peak Park or North Mountain Park, as well as tennis courts, basketball courts, and more are within walking distance of our home.
This listing is for a private, individually-keyed 12' x 13' guestroom with it's own closet, lamp, ceiling fan, two windows to let in lots of natural light, top-down/bottom-up blinds, individual air purifier, as well as a humidifier.
Also included is access to a "shared-space" remodeled spacious living room nicely decorated with photographic travel art, which is furnished with a large and comfy sectional leather sofa, a refurbished dining area with a Pub-height Gathering table (seats 8) and a remodeled shared Travertine-tiled bathroom w/ full bath tub / shower, already stocked with toiletries, towels, and hair dryer, so you can pack light.
Feel free to whip up a meal or two in our large and newly remodeled "galley-style" kitchen while you're here...and unless you're a professional chef, we have all the kitchen equipment you'd ever need, I think. (maybe even if you ARE a professional chef, lol).
We are only 2 blocks from the Montebello Light Rail station and bus depot, which will take you to/from the airport, downtown, the Convention Center, (URL HIDDEN) having a car is not at all necessary. Here's an idea of all the fun places you will find along our Light Rail line: search: "RailLife Phoenix"
We're both major "people people". Kevin works from the house, but is quiet, and allows you the freedom to come and go as you please, through your own entrance. Alisa has a teenage son in Flagstaff, and splits her time between there and here. When we get the chance, we love to roam the planet (by Jeep or by plane). Even if we're out on the road traveling, we're always available for advice in person or by phone/text about great restaurants, directions, can't-miss attractions, etc. Compared to a single-room hotel or motel room, not only is this bedroom and living room HUGE, with lots of room to spread out, but there's also some additional shared space for an air mattress we can set up if you need room for 3-4 guests (additional per person).
Sheets, blankets, and pillows are all provided. Did I mention it is HUGE? Lots more space for you and your friends or family than a hotel room would have!
We are big believers in the "Make Yourself At Home" philosophy, and we want you to be comfortable! You are welcome to use anything in the house that you need. The kitchen and bathroom are fully stocked for you. You can even have us run a load of laundry for you for just $5/load washed and dried...enough to cover our costs.
If you are coming to Phoenix to explore the city, a quick drive from our place will get you almost anywhere in the city. We are happy to help you plan your adventures if you would like suggestions. From white water rafting and golf lessons, to wine tastings and museums, (not to mention the GREAT diverse restaurant selection nearby!) we have found a lot of fun things to do in the Phoenix area!
If you are going to be traveling around the Southwest after your time in Phoenix, you can feel free to leave bigger bags here (locked away in a secure storage) and use our place as your home-base. San Diego, LA, Las Vegas, and the beaches of Rocky Point Mexico are all about 4-6 hours away. The Grand Canyon, Sedona, White Mountains, and AZ's wine country are 1-4 hours. Take your carry-on, and leave the big stuff here, while you explore! We have been to almost every corner of the state, so if you want to know the hidden treasures, we would be happy to tell you our favorite places to visit.
We have a wide variety of sports and camping equipment to get you outside and enjoying the AZ scenery during your visit. Some of the items you are welcome to use while staying with us are:
- Mountain bikes (local use only)
- Water bottles and day-hiking backpacks
- Camping equipment (tent, sleeping bags, air mattresses, camping cookware, lanterns)
- Overnight backpacking backpacks
- And more!
If you have any questions on the listing, or Phoenix in general, just send us a message. We look forward to getting to know you! Guest AccessOur newly-remodeled and nicely-furnished living room, full guest bathroom, roomy dining room, and huge galley-style kitchen are all shared-space. There are two guestrooms, and each one is individually keyed, so you can lock up when you leave. Street parking is available and plentiful, and free!
(The section beyond the kitchen, at the rear of the house is our little sanctuary, and exclusively for Alisa and Kevin.) Interaction with GuestsWe allow you the privacy you seek to come and go as you wish, the convenience of having a hospitality expert readily available to answer your every question, and the experience to anticipate your needs. We love people and conversation, and will follow your lead and engage when/if you're ready. Though Kevin works from home and Alisa flip-flops between here and Flagstaff, there will be times when we're both out of town, and you may get lucky and have the place to yourself. The NeighborhoodWhat you WON'T see in our neighborhood: perfectly manicured lawns, perfectly painted exteriors of every home, a Mercedes in every driveway, gated communities, gilded streets of gold, or anything remotely resembling the aesthetics of either Scottsdale or Beverly Hills, lol.
What you WILL see is an older, quiet, lower-to-middle-income neighborhood, with lots of owner-occupied homes, most of them fairly well taken care of. Some of our neighbors have owned here for many decades, and other younger families have recently purchased theirs from fix-and-flippers, who have nicely revamped portions our neighborhood for us during the 2008-2010 downturn. Average age is probably 45 or 50 years old, so it's quiet during night (URL HIDDEN) college parties or obnoxious neighbors. Getting AroundThe reason we purchased this home, is it's proximity to the Metro Light Rail and the Valley Metro transportation hub, both just 2 blocks away. Renting a car when staying with us is more of a preference, rather than a necessity, since you can get anywhere in the Valley with just a short 2-block walk across the street and around the corner to access both stations. Be prepared to see lots of "characters" if you ride public transportation in Phoenix, just like any city, I suppose. We've never had a guest mention that they felt unsafe taking the bus or rail, but you're not going to see a "Best Dressed of Arizona" fashion show while you're on (URL HIDDEN) be prepared. :-) We've taken it countless times, and have NEVER had a problem. If you prefer, there's always cabs close by...sometimes even sitting near the light rail station across the street in the Target parking lot...and there's always Uber or RelayRides too. Phoenix is really easy to get around! Other Things to NoteWe keep a neat, clean home, and ask that you also keep things neat and clean while you're here. There are cleaning supplies in the bathroom if you wish to make it even more spic-and-span yourself...but most would find no need. :-)
