The SpaceThis cozy cabin nestled on 4 acres in the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest is a great place to decompress or gather with family and friends. Grill on the deck or enjoy a siesta in the hammock. Secluded but close to town. Renovated We have two cabins on this property, so it's perfect for friends and family to rent out both for get-togethers, or come without the crowd for a quiet getaway. We even have a corral with water and food tubs for our equestrian friends. Access to public riding trails and thousands of acres of land is right around the corner. Unit 23 is world renowned for hunting elk, deer, bear, mountain lion and other game for hunting enthusiasts. Lots of great fishing in the area. You might be lucky enough to spot some of Heber's wild horses with a little exploring in the forest. Antique shops and restaurants right in town. There are 2 woodstoves to keep toasty on cool nights. Since it's at almost 7000 feet in elevation, the temperature here is typically about 30 degrees cooler than in the valley. Nice breezes on the deck! The SpaceAt the Apache-Sitgreaves Observatory, among the pine trees in an area we call The Ravine there is a spacious 14'x10' tent with a queen-sized raised pillow-top AeroBed, a nightstand made from a 410-year old Pinon pine tree, plus a couple amenities for you to enjoy. Relax, take in the sights, sounds, and awesome smell of the pines and ceder. These tents, and our facilities, are completely off-grid. Water is hauled and all lights are solar. There is a shared spacious shower building and separate shared restroom on the premises. Hot coffee in the morning with fruits and breads, and coffee at night for those observing, is included. The observatory is located 1 mile down a dirt road. Come see the stars as likely never before, hear the frogs after an evening storm, and unplug here with us for an unforgettable adventure. For those with a DSLR camera there are unique opportunities to shoot dramatic nightscape pictures or just take them in visually in a lounge chair. See our listing pictures for some of taken at our location. Guest AccessThere is a trailer on the premises for the telescope operator (which may include two dogs and chickens on the premises). Guests have access to a common area at the camper deck under an awning, and are welcome to sit, chat about the history and geology of the area, study star charts, and, find midnight coffee. Plenty of space to park vehicles but no RV access. Interaction with GuestsA host will be present for your stay as the telescope operator. You are more than welcome to use the common area with an awning and picnic table, and strike up interesting conversation with the telescope operator. Note, there are security cameras in and around the observatory. The NeighborhoodWe border the Apache-Sitgreaves National Forest, so you may hike into it if you like. Getting AroundDrive your SUV. Dinner options are just a few miles away. No RV access. Other Things to Note*We are at nearly 7000 feet elevation so having a warm coat is advisable as night time temperatures can be considerable cooler than at lower elevations. *This is the largest public viewing telescope in Arizona. *We have interesting and useful amenities available to you to use during your stay here, like a push-button night light for the nightstand, a pair of 10x50mm binoculars to use day or night, a flashlight capable of white light to help you get to the restroom and turn it to red lighting for around the observatory to preserve your night vision (it also is a power station to recharge your smart phone!). You can purchase new binoculars or flashlight if you found the ones in the listing useful.
