The SpaceTasteful interiors, sweeping desert and mountain vistas, memorable sunsets and the changing colors of the day, as well as starry night skies, make just being there a pleasure. The many living areas and well distributed spaces make it cozy for small groups but also very suitable for large groups. It is great for family gatherings and reunions of friends because of the large expandable dining room table, which makes it also good for celebrating special occasions. Rates are for up to 4 people staying > for large groups inquire. It is a real home away from home with a good selection of books, DVDs and internet access. There are two living rooms and two TVs which can be useful if children are part of your party. As far as TV channels go we use DIRECTV and, if you do not want to miss your favorite game, you might like to know that we subscribe to the Sports channel, too. Artists, academics and nature lovers find it a beautiful and peaceful place to work in and relax. The moderate elevation (4,800 feet) avoids extremes of temperature all year round: summers are never too hot and winters are never really cold. Guest AccessYou will be given clear directions on how to reach our home once you arrive in Oracle. A neighbor will meet you and give you the keys as well as be on call should you need help in any way. She will also be able to inform you of local events and give you any advice needed. Interaction with GuestsWe tend to interact with our guests from the moment the booking is made simply because that way we can prepare the house for their particular needs. We always meet them at the start of their stay, and sometimes, at the end as well. During their stay guests can treat this beautiful home as their "home away from home" and will not be disturbed in any way. Our home is always carefully cleaned before and after guests arrive and we use professional services, like Truly Nolen, to ensure that everything is just right for our guests. The NeighborhoodCasa Linda is located in a small community called Oracle, on the north slopes of the Santa Catalina mountains, not far from Saddlebrooke and very close to Biosphere II. Visitors will find interesting wildlife and birdwatching opportunities on the 3 acres of land that belong to 'Casa Linda' as well as the whole area that surrounds this beautiful place. The home also offers good access to numerous trails in wilderness settings which are ideal for hiking and mountain biking. One of these trails can be reached on foot directly from our backyard. There are interesting local shops and restaurants nearby as well as a post office and library. Oracle is well known for its art festivals and thriving art community. Getting AroundPLACES TO VISIT for wonderful day outings - Biosphere II - Sonora Desert Museum - Old Tucson Studios - Sabino Canyon - Catalina State Park - Arivaipa Canyon Wilderness & Wildlife Reserve - Boyce Thompson Arboretum - Pima Air Museum - Tital II Missile Museum - Kitt Peak National Observatory - Kartchner Caverns - Tombstone - Mission San Xavier Del Bac The closest airports are Tucson (about an hour away) and Phoenix (about 2.5 hours away). If you are coming by air you will need to rent a car; if you are coming with lots of friends, parking is not a problem because we have ample off-road parking on our private driveway. Other Things to NoteWe find that the temperature here is moderate all year round but if you ever need to switch on the heating or ceiling fans you are, of course, welcome to do so. All bills are included, so we simply expect you to be sensible and not waste gas or electricity but especially water because, as you know, water is expensive and precious in Arizona.

The SpaceThe house is surrounded by oak trees and native desert plants and has a quiet, natural, atmosphere. Being adjacent to the Coronado National Forest wild life such as deer, javelinas, coyotes, skunks, rabbits, and many types of birds can be seen often on the property. The house and garden are ideal for individuals or couples wanting a secluded, private environment to relax and revive in. Also it is excellent as a retreat or for concentrated work, there is good wifi. The rustic, 50 year old cottage of 750 sq. feet is furnished with many antiques from my family. The house offers all that guests need to feel comfortable. There are sleeping arrangements for 4 persons, a double bed, and a fold out couch that also makes into a double bed. The screened-in porch provides an extra room in the warmer months. A small but well equipped kitchen is perfect for cooking simple meals at home. The office area and a large table in the living room have comfortable office chairs and make great working areas for computer related or clean activities. Besides having great wifi, the house is LOW tech. There is an antiquated TV that plays DVDs but has no TV service….BRING YOUR MOVIES! Also there is a simple radio that receives NPR, and local stations. The garden and area that surrounds the house is an important feature of La Casita. There are different sitting areas that offer shade or sun and different views, and are perfect for eating and relaxing outside while watching the birds, or looking out at the Catalina Mountain foothills. Gorgeous sunsets can be seen from the house and at night the dark skies are perfect for stargazing. Upon Your Arrival You will be greeted by Chuck the care-taker who will give you the key, help you get settled, and answer any questions. Chuck is available by phone in case you have any questions or needs. The house is then yours to enjoy undisturbed on your own. Guest AccessGuest are welcome to use the entire house, and enjoy the garden and wooded areas around the house with the many sitting areas. Interaction with GuestsOnce you have been greeted by Chuck the care taker and introduced to the house, you are left to enjoy the quiet privacy of La Casita. If you need information or help regarding the house you can always call Chuck who lives in Oracle. Also you can email me, I live in Amsterdam and there is a 9 hour difference so I may not return your email within the hour but I do my best to answer my guest as fast as possible. The NeighborhoodLa Casita is located in the community of Oracle on the north sloops of the Catalina Mountains at 4800 ft. It is considered a High Desert eco system with its own unique combination of plant and animal species. Oracle is a cute little town, with many interesting and fun things to offer. There are several restaurants on American Avenue the main street. My favorites are the Patio Café for a really tasty breakfast or lunch and Rivera’s Mexican food, which has FABULOUS fish tacos on Fridays. The Oracle Inn is fun for a Friday or Saturday night, they often have live music. The historic Arcadia Ranch Society is an interesting place to visit, it provides a unique view of the early frontier days of the area. If you like to explore a great vintage shop, be sure to visit The Ranch Store. They also offer on wednesday evenings the Farmer's Market with food and music, always a lot of fun. There is also the Oracle Post Office and Library. For general needs there is the Family General Store but for food shopping the closest large grocery store and pharmacy is in Catalina about 20 min south of Oracle on the road to Tucson. Some homegrown fresh produce can be found at the Oracle Patio Café. Getting AroundSouthern Arizona is so rich in beauty and interesting things to see and do! Here are a few of the highlights I highly recommend. HIKING TRAILS in the area: - Catalina State Park - Oracle State Park - Pepper Sauce Canyon - Arivaipa Canyon Wilderness and Wildlife Preserve DAY TRIPS BY CAR, beautiful and unique destinations: - The Biosphere II - The Sonora Desert Museum in Tucson - Tohona Chul Desert Botanical Gardens in Tucson - The Bryce Thompson Arboretum - Kartchner Caverns - Kit Peak Observatory - Sabino Canyon - Old Tucson - Mission San Xavier Del Blanc - Old Tombstone Other Things to NoteFOR HIKERS, the Oracle Ridge trailhead that goes to the top of Mount Lemmon is five minutes walk from the house. It has amazing views in all directions and is definitely advised. Also the Oracle State Park near by has wonderful trails that look out over the San Pedro Valley and the Galiuro Mountains.

We are surrounded by nature. This is the perfect 'beat the heat' destination if you're fleeing the hot desert in the Summer. This is also the perfect 'do you wanna build a snowman' destination in the Winter. This is also the perfect destination for avid cyclists wanting to train year round in mountain air. If you step out of the house in any direction, you have Cookie Cabin and The Living Rainbow store to one side, and the General Store and Sawmill Run restaurant on the other side across the street. There are few places that can tout, LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION...like this one. Getting AroundPlease be sure to have enough gas in your car to get up and down the mountain. There aren't any gas stations on Mt Lemmon. (Last place for fuel, groceries, and pharmacies, is on Tanque Verde and Catalina Highway). There is a General Store on the mountain, but your best bet is to bring your own groceries. Restaurants and stores have limited hours. Also, either print out or take a screen shot of the important details for your trip. Cell service is spotty. You don't want to get up there and not have the key code to get into the house! Once you're in the house, you'll be able to connect to wifi. If you're in a jam, you can go to the Community Center and use their internet. There are 3 levels in the house. If you are renting the Lower Level, you will only take the stairs to get into the lower level of the house. It's possible that the Lower Level of the house may be rented at the same time as the Upper Level. The units have their own entrances, are completely secure and inaccessible to the other guests. Please be mindful and respectful to the guests who may be visiting above you. The house was built after the fire on Mt. Lemmon. That's why it looks a bit different from the others. We have little trees (grow little trees, grow!) growing near us...and we have views of large beautiful trees across the way from our balcony. The SpaceThe Restful Roost is located on Mount Lemmon in Arizona at an elevation of 7,815 feet. It is a mere quarter mile walk from the quaint village of Summerhaven but you’d never know it. Enjoy bird watching, wind listening, and star gazing from one of two decks, both of which have a tree-house feel. The cabin has a fully-equipped country kitchen, two wood burning fireplaces (one in the family room and one in the master), large skylights (including one over the master bed that is ideal for moon/stargazing), a sleeping loft for the kiddies or young at heart, and a wall of windows offering treetop views. It consists of three levels. The main level includes the kitchen, dinning area, family room, two bedrooms, a full bathroom, and a large deck (a third of which is covered). The upper level consists of the master bedroom and bath, loft area, sleeping loft, and a deck. The bottom level is comprised of the laundry room and various utility closets. As for beds, the master has a king, one of the bedrooms has a queen and twin bunks, and the other bedroom has a queen. The sleeping loft has a twin and a double. We bought the cabin in 2015 as a convenient respite from Tucson’s summer heat (the temperature at the cabin is typically 20 to 30 degrees lower than the temperature in Tucson) and to occasionally frolic in the winter snow. We live at our cabin in the summer on the days it is not rented, and thus it is well maintained. In other words, this is NOT a high volume, tired rental with cheap and broken amenities. See restfulrost d0t c0m for more information. Reasons for visiting: -resting -relaxing -hiking -biking -wildlife viewing -heat respiting -snow playing (sledding, snow ball fights, snow person building, etc) -tree communing -rediscovering youth -hanging out -stargazing -chilling -being -breathing -recharging -cooking -meditating -creeking -bearing down Guest AccessGuests get access to the entire cabin other than the "owners' closet" in the master bedroom (the master has two closets so that leaves one for you). Interaction with GuestsBilly or Nancy (Billy's wife) will be available by phone during your stay and have caretakers on the mountain to help out in an emergency. The NeighborhoodThe main drag of Summerhaven is a quarter mile down from the cabin. There you will find The Cookie Cabin, The Living Rainbow Gift Shop, Mt. Lemmon General Store & Gift Shop, Sawmill Run Restaurant, and the Post Office, among other establishments. A short drive away, you'll find Ski Valley, the southern most ski destination in the U.S., which obviously has skiing when there is snow, and also offers chair lift rides in the summer. Ski Valley has a restaurant called The Iron Door which serves breakfast and lunch. Just up the road from Ski Valley is the Mt. Lemmon Sky Center, an observatory operated by the University of Arizona. They generally do not offer walk in tours but do have a SkyNights program for which you can buy tickets. Getting AroundThere are no gas stations on the mountain so make sure you have plenty of gas before heading up. Other Things to NoteThe cabin has WiFi and a TV. The TV is a relatively new 50" LED equipped with a Chromecast and DVD player. It does NOT have cable but is connected to a rooftop antenna which pulls in approximately 27 stations. A lot of the stations are marginal, but we do get ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, and PBS (if there's a big game on cable, the Sawmill Run Restaurant, which is less than a half a mile away, will likely have it on in its bar area). The cabin does not have a landline telephone but our mobile phones (T-Mobile) get decent reception on the property, although no data. Consider activating WiFi calling on your mobile if it has that feature. Lots of stairs! The water supply on the mountain is spring fed (yummy!) so could some day run out. Thus, please be mindful of usage. We will consider doing a one night rental for an extra $100.

The Restful Roost is located on Mount Lemmon in Arizona at an elevation of 7,815 feet.

The SpaceOur balcony makes it all! The patio gives you a beautiful view of the mountain and wildlife of Mt. Lemmon. Bird watching is great from here. It's the perfect way to end the day with a glass of wine and the cool breeze. The California king beds in both bedrooms doesn't hurt either. Please take advantage of using the fireplace to warm up or to enjoy it's cozy ambience. We also have a large grill you may use on the deck. Please remember to turn off gas and make sure all fires are out of the grill and fireplace. The kitchen is wonderful and cooking utensils are provided. We just ask that you wash all dishes you use before leaving. We have ceiling fans that you can turn on, but nothing beats opening up the windows and letting that mountain breeze through the cabin. Just close them when you leave as storms can roll in quickly! There is no A/C or central heating, but space heaters are provided in the cooler months. Our cabin sits at the top of a hill with a very steep driveway. You can park at the base and climb the stairs to the top or park your car (on an incline) at the top. We are definitely not handicap accessible. Guest AccessYou will have access to every room in our cabin, except storage area. 2 bedrooms, a pullout couch, and a Murphy bed are there for you and your family/guests. The storage/crawl space on the lower level has a dirt floor and open insulation so please stay out of that room. It's hard to get that door opened and closed any way! Also, the loft is under construction (will be available for use and more beds in the future!) so no going up there. Feel free to enjoy hiking around the property, as well as walking to some other nearby trail heads. Our kitchen is fully equipped with everything you need to make delicious meals. Our family always says that food tastes better at the cabin! We also have a few maps of the area and trail maps that you may use, but please return them in good condition. There is one shower, but we have supplied shampoo and soap for your convenience along with a few towels. We also have a washer and dryer that you may use of you need to. Interaction with GuestsOne of our family members will be able to greet you upon your arrival, depending on when you plan to visit. We will exchange a key with you either before you head up Mt. Lemmon or up at the cabin to show you around. If you need anything, please feel free to call or text. You will have two numbers to contact us. We would be happy to answer any questions. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is above most other cabins in this area, so you will enjoy peace and quiet. It is a very steep driveway so make note of that before coming up. You don't need 4WD in the summer, but in the winter you would. There are many stairs that lead up to the cabin if you don't park your car at the top of the hill. This property is not handicap accessible. Away from the hustle and bustle of Tucson and away from being right in the center of Summerhaven, you won't be bothered by anyone unless you want to! We don't have wifi, so no distractions from the beauty of nature...besides the TVs with many movies recorded! Our cabin is where you go to be away with your loved ones! Getting AroundThere is no public transit, but your car (or legs) can take you to the general store, trail heads, gift shop, and the ski area. Everything is very close, right down the street from the cabin. The U of A observatory is also right up the road from Ski Valley and easy access from our place. Other Things to NoteOur family does have dogs and we take our fur babies up to enjoy our mountain getaway occasionally. We say this so you know there is a chance of some dog hair, in case of any allergies.

Quiet & serene. Relax in a hammock in the cool shade of pine trees while taking in the scents. Glimpse deer, turkeys, and a wide variety of birds. Zero traffic. On dead end dirt road. Private. Large flat yard with views. Hiking galore. Year round stream near by. 3 dining options in Summerhaven within walking distance. The master bedroom does not have a door. There is no television, WiFi, or landline telephone (although most cell phones do have service on the property). There is also no functioning heater (not normally a problem in the summer months), however you can feel free to use the wood fireplace. (There is an endless supply of firewood on and around the property.) There is also an outdoor fire pit to enjoy S'mores or cook outside. The antique propane oven is tricky to light, but the stove burners work well and are easy to light. (you might not want to do a lot of baking!). Plenty of parking on flat driveway. No trash pickup on Mt. Lemmon so please pack out what you pack in.

Are we tucked back into the trees? Nope. There are little trees around us. (Grow little trees, grow!) That being said, you can take a 2 minute walk and find yourself in the thick of very tall trees. And when you're sitting on our awesome balcony, you can see plenty of trees...just across the street! LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. This place truly has it all.
