The SpaceOur adorable 1000 sq ft cabin has recently had a major renovation, including new bathroom, new flooring, paint and decor. We know you'll love our peaceful, clean and comfortable place in the woods. The decor is modern yet relaxed, with comfort in mind throughout. The spacious front bedroom has a queen-size bed while the larger rear bedroom has a queen and twin bunks. Imagine waking up from a refreshing summer afternoon nap to the scent of pine and the trill of birdsong as the kids troop back from a swim in the lake. The open kitchen has brand-new appliances and a spacious eating bar, and the adjacent dining area seats six. A perfect place to relax after a day on the slopes with a cup of cocoa, a toasty gas fire and a view of the snow laden pines. Heaven! The welcoming but uncluttered living room includes a comfortable sleeper sofa. We have a TV, DVD, Roku box with games, and loads of movies, books and puzzles to enjoy, plus free wireless WiFi if you really must stay in touch. In the evening, put your grilling skills to test on the brand new deck, complete with dining and lounge furniture and barbecue. Steaks under the stars! We're ideally located in the desired Lakemont Pines neighborhood with its private lake for swimming, fishing or just floating your boat. While you can head to the lake year-round, during the mid-June to Labor Day season, full guest privileges (including lake, playground, lodge, snack shack and loaner gear) are included with your rental. If you're in the mood for a hike, the trail-head into the national forest is just at the end of our road. If you've never been to Arnold, you're in for a treat! Ideally located in the Stanislaus National Forest, we are 30 minutes from Bear Valley Ski Resort to the north, and 20 minutes from the charming gold rush town of Murphys, with its wine tasting rooms, boutique shopping and gourmet restaurants. Also nearby are Columbia State Park, a preserved gold rush community, Calaveras Big Trees State Park and its sequoias and Railtown 1897 State Historic Park, not to mention golf, winery tours, cave tours, zip lines, horseback riding and more! The lake is easy walking distance from the bottom of our lot. Interaction with GuestsYour host is available by cell phone if you have any questions during your stay! The NeighborhoodLake Mont Pines is a private HOA with a beautiful lake and lodge. It has a vintage lake resort feel, and is much less busy and noisy than the larger Blue Lake Springs. Summertime activities abound during the mid-June to Labor Day season, with outdoor movies, and various games and contests down at the lake. The rest of the year is even more peaceful, for those who like to hike, ski, or just relax in the woods. The SpaceThis is an original cabin in the first neighborhood in Arnold. We have updated it completely but left the original flavor intact. For example it has full kitchen with dishwasher, garbage disposal, microwave, wireless internet and has city water and sewer, but does not have cabletv or gaming consoles. The living room and dining room are not "great rooms", but cozy get together spaces. If you are the type of folks who love to ski and hike or swim and canoe, then head home for a home cooked meal, a beer and a video or book- this is the spot for you!! It has a ton of outdoor activities and water-sports. Because of its elevation, you can play in the snow at Bear Valley in the morning and hike or play golf in the afternoon during Autumn and Spring. For hikers, bikers and equestrians, the Arnold Rim Trail features more than a dozen miles of pathways along forested creeks and ridgetop vistas. For those who want to take it easier, visit White Pines Park and Lake (about .25 miles from the house), or head down highway 4 for a few miles and go rappelling in moaning caverns. Murphys is a gold mining town 9 miles down the hill that has been restored wonderfully and has some nice restaurants, wineries and a wonderful park to picnic and splash in the creek. Arnold is home to Calaveras Big Trees State Park, where the continent's biggest trees grow. Featuring giant Sequoias over 300' tall and 30' in diameter, the park has both wheelchair-accessible paths and rugged trails among thousands of enormous redwoods, cedars and pines. We have visited all of these venues (with the exception of wineries- we are beer folks), and love the low key nature of it. We do a lot of skiing, biking, swimming and hiking- but appreciate the small town nature of Angels Camp, Murphys and others too. Some of the “tourist attractions" are kind of kitschy and we think it just adds to the charm! The SpaceInside: This cabin in Big Trees Village includes a theater with an 8' wide screen and plush seating, a pool & ping pong table, fire pit for 13, and ultra fast wireless throughout. The theater also has a built in microwave and small refrigerator. Bring popcorn and drinks! Movie watching fun! Bedroom 1 has a queen bed, guest armoire, and streaming movies. The 2nd bedroom has one queen bed and bunk beds, sleeping 4. A pull out queen sleeper sofa is also available in the living room. Sleeps up to 8 in beds assuming 2 sleepers in each queen. We rent to large student and bachelor/bachelorette party groups up to 16 who use supplied air beds to accommodate more than 8 sleepers. Warm Weather Only: Sleeping capacity of 16 is based on 8 in cabin beds and 8 on 4 queen air mattresses in the “sleeps 12” tipi tent sharing the same property. Please note: the tipi is set up with two queen air mattresses and is available only to Sweet Retreat cabin renters. Please bring bedding or sleeping bags. AMENITIES: Tennis, basketball, picnic grounds, and a kiddie-play area are a two minute walk through the trees to the Big Trees Recreation Center. Soap, shampoo, towels, bedding, and even toothbrushes are supplied. 7 minutes to the Stanislaus River Sourgrass Recreation area and whitewater rafting. 8 minutes to jaw-dropping huge trees at Big Trees State Park. Murphy's wine tasting and many lakes are 30 minute drives. PARKING: Cars lacking 4-, or all-wheel drive should park at the top of the driveway year round, as should all vehicles during winter months. FAMILIES: Kids adore the theater and tipi. More than one young child has asked their parents during their stay if the family could live at the Sweet Retreat full time. :-) the center's tennis and basketball courts, kiddie play and BBQ/picnic table areas. Sitting on the back deck dwarfed by super tall pines, one guest remarked: "it feels like luxury camping here." Yes, the feel is remote and secluded, yet groceries, gas, and restaurants are just a few minutes away. Winter Notes: One family wrote "Thank you for our best Christmas ever" highlighting being able to watch their kids sled the steep driveway from the comfort of the wood-stove-heated living room. IMPORTANT: What's fun for some families isn't for others: Families with children who have to be carried should carefully check weather conditions before renting in the winter: carrying a child on the steep driveway in icy conditions is no fun and not advised. Guest AccessGuests have access to everything but the owner's closet, one utility closet and wine cabinet. Includes fast wifi, charcoal grill, fully equipped kitchen, home theater, hookups upstairs and down for playing music off your smartphone/iPad, pool table, 2 kayaks, and a land line telephone. Interaction with GuestsThe host stays offsite in most cases. Live interaction by special request. The NeighborhoodAs the cabin can't be easily seen from the street and is on 1.3 acres the feeling is more "private" than "neighborhood." The nearby recreation center, open only in summer, is both super convenient yet far enough away to preserve privacy. Getting AroundNo public transit. Other Things to NoteWinter wear share bin has lots of gloves, jackets, etc. in case you forget yours. The home site is adjacent to some of the planet's most awesome and treasured giant trees. So we take minimizing fire dangers more seriously than most. NEVER start a campfire unless it's an official burn-permitted day. Determine that by cal(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN).

The SpaceCalaveras is rich in history, natural beauty, and is situated in the heart of gold country. Our cabin is around 5000 ft elevation in woody Dorrington, on a .5 acre private lot. The large driveway is level, making it easy to get in and out during the winter. Our place was built in 1960 and has a lot of character (most of Arnold was built in the 70s and 80s). The stone hearth was built from local "candy rock" and the most of the woodwork has a custom feel. Inside are 3 spacious bedrooms (two upstairs are separated by a pocket door) and two full/quaint bathrooms. A wood burning stove along with a newly installed efficient furnace with thermostat keep the cabin toasty and warm. (We also have two portable space heaters if you are really cold). The kitchen has all modern conveniences with coffee maker, microwave, dishwasher, gas stove, refrigerator, etc. Fresh mountain water flows from the tap - no need to bring your own bottled water. During the winter months, there are plenty of opportunities for sledding, snowshoeing, skiing, and building forts in the snow. When spring arrives, don't miss out on opportunities for fishing, canoeing, kayaking, hiking, stargazing and much more! In late summer, the Bear Valley music festival is a lot of fun with nearly two weeks of live music spanning several genres. If you are a wine connoisseur, there are plenty of tasting rooms in Murphys, as well as a grape stomping festival in the fall. If you are a fan of beer, we have a growler you can bring to Snowshoe Brewing Co for a refill of one of their local brews. Guest AccessFull use of the cabin, laundry, fireplace, community lake (which is about a 1/3 mile down the road), wifi, Netflix, VHS and DVD library and free long distance phone service within the US. Snow plow service is free and already paid for! Interaction with GuestsEven though we don't live here full time, we are available by phone or email anytime. Don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions or issues! The NeighborhoodQuiet, yet very accessible to Highway 4. Not far from groceries. A community lake is within a short walk or even shorter 30 second drive down the road. Street is full of 5-6 varieties of trees, meadows, and wildlife. We have everything from squirrels to bears, although we have never seen a bear on the property. Arnold, Bear Valley, Lake Alpine, Spicer Meadow, Stanislaus River, Murphys are all within a 10-30 minute drive. Note: We are nearly 2 hours away from Yosemite, so even though it looks close geographically, highway access takes time. Getting AroundHaving personal transportation is a necessity so please plan accordingly. All wheel drive or chains are recommended during the winter time in case it starts to snow. We provide a free snow plowing service! Other Things to NoteFor those that enjoy cooking, we have a full stainless steel cookware set of pots and pans in the kitchen. If it interests you, there is a "Great Books" of western history collection in the house - Plato to modern thinkers. We also have a variety of children's books. FYI: The two bedrooms upstairs are fairly large but only separated by a pocket door (and are not separated by a hallway). Bring comfy slippers as the floors can be cool in the early morning hours. Also the beds are freshly made and ready for a cozy night's rest. Hand towels in the bathrooms and the kitchen are provided. However, we do ask that you provide your own bath and beach towels. Winter time - we have a FLAT driveway which is VERY EASY! During the snowy months, we have an on call snow removal service for the driveway. In the case there is a good amount of snow, we provide a free snow removal service!

Located at 7200 in the Sierras on the Scenic Highway 4 corridor. Skiing and active winter sports are available in the winter. Outdoor recreation abounds in the Stanislaus National Forest and Calaveras Big Trees State Park from this condo Base Camp. The condo is located in the Bear Valley Village, offers easy access, but is still rustic in nature. We came for the winter and stayed for the summer. Our daughters and their friends have loved Bear Valley since they were pre-teens and they continue to escape here in their post-college years. Snow play, bouldering, wandering, fishing, biking, lounging, hiking...Alpine county has it all! What Bear Valley doesn't offer is glitz and glam. This is a true mountain village that will melt the tension from California urban life away. This unit features an upstairs bedroom loft with a queen sized bed and a downstairs double bed futon with single bunk above. It sleeps a total of 5 and a foldaway bed can be provided. On the way to Bear Valley, you can enjoy the wineries of the Mother Lode in Murphys and the surrounding area. A few miles up the hill you will find Calaveras Big Trees State Park and several recreational areas that offer zip lines and caving. Reservoirs and natural lakes fed by the Stanislaus River are along the route up Highway 4. You can take a detour to Columbia State Park and walk through the restored gold rush town and enjoy reenactments of California's Gold Rush days. Bear Valley is the perfect location to launch day hikes, fishing trips, road and mountain bike riding. In the winter, Bear Valley Ski Resort offers a family-friendly ski experience. Bear Valley Cross Country and the giant ski meadow is a 5 minutes walk from the condo. The Pacific Coast Trails Ebbets Pass trailhead is a short drive up the mountain. Bike and boat rentals are available at Bear Valley Adventure Company and all of the winter sport equipment can be rented in town and at the resort. Snowmobiling is popular in the Lake Alpine Sno Park area. Lake Alpine was rated the #1 family camping area in 2014 by Sunset Magazine. Lake Alpine is three miles away and you can stay in a condo instead of a tent. Lake Alpine has a paved bike/walking path around nearly 1/2 of its perimeter. Watching the osprey and bald eagle fish for trout is a great treat at dawn and in the evening.
