The SpaceOur adorable, private guest house is separate from the main house (where we live) and has a private bathroom. It also includes a refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker. We are located in the heart of wine country with plenty of greenery. I always like to let people know who have more than two total guests that it is either a king bed and a sofa OR two twins and a sofa. The sofa is very large and many have slept on it and find it very comfortable. We are located in Atascadero, CA with easy access to several vineyards with excellent wine tasting. Guests will have access to the guest home and patio and will have parking. We love to host and meet new people and are happy to recommend things to do in the area but will also be happy to leave you on your own. Our neighborhood is quiet with free-roaming deer and wild turkeys. Friendly people and great walking and running trails. Parking is included and a rental car is definitely recommended for long distance travelers. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the guest home and patio and will have parking. A drive that is well worth the views, cooler temperatures and feeling you are truly staying in a nest with the tree line/birds flying lower than your perch! Getting AroundWe do not have public buses up here. Wine tour companies will gladly come and take you wine tasting with advance reservations! Other Things to NoteLocal wineries have provided us with wine passes for you to visit their wineries. Guest AccessYou will have full access to the whole house and property. When you stay here you will be centrally located to some of the best places in San Luis Obispo County. There is antique shopping in Santa Margarita; hiking, horseback riding and bicycling at Santa Margarita Lake; horseback riding and hiking in the Los Padres National Forest; in Paso Robles there is the wineries and wine tasting, the Paso Robles Event Center and Mid State Fair and a water park; whale watching and sport fishing in Morro Bay, shopping in San Luis Obispo, antique shopping in Cambria, the Hearst Castle, the Carizzo Plain National Monument, Lopez Lake, Pismo Beach and Nacimiento Lake. Last but not least there is Atascadero itself with a great park, lake and zoo. Atascadero has local activities that happen every month of the year. The Chamber of Commerce is a great place to check out activities in Atascadero. Interaction with GuestsWe live two hours north of the cottage. If you need help with anything our daughter Sarah lives right next door. If you have any questions you can call us. Most importantly you get to treat that home as your home away from home. The NeighborhoodWhile we have neighbors around us, the property has a very rural feel. There is a church across the street, so it is busy on Sunday mornings, otherwise fairly quiet during the week. The house is located on a hill. Many people walk this street for exercise and has been nicknamed the San Clemente Loop. No two houses or properties are alike, so it is interesting to walk the loop or 'block' and see the different houses and landscaping. You know what I love about this neighborhood? First off the neighbors on either side are great (one is my daughter...of course I would say that!). The second thing I love is the way it smells, the grass especially in the summer with the oaks has an earthy fragrance that just seems to help relax me. Getting AroundThere is a county transit system called the Regional Transit Authority and a North County Shuttle. Both pick up near City Hall in downtown Atascadero. This is about 2 miles away. There is off street parking in the driveway, enough for two cars. There is also a spot along the street to park as well. If you are traveling by plane, you will want to rent a car, that would be the best way to get to our home. Having a car will give you the independence to see all the great sights SLO county has to offer. Other Things to NoteThe weather is very agreeable. In the fall the days will be warm with crisp nights, the winter can get cold into the 20's but warms up to the 50-60's during the days. The rainy season is from December to March, but some warm days in February. Summer gets hot, there is no air conditioning, but the reward is the great evenings that go along with it. Not usually humid. Taxes: Not something I really like talking about, but you have the right to know. I am assessed Transient Occupancy Taxes of 10%, Atascadero Tourism Marketing Tax of 2% and a SLO county Tourism of 1% for a total of 13% tax assessment. This amount is included in the price you pay. My base rate for one weekday night is $115.00/night plus $15.00 tax equals $130. and weekend is $135/ per night plus $18 to bring that total to 153.

The SpaceBeautiful adobe brick building (thermal mass means it stays cool inside during hot hot Atascadero summers!) with nice big yard. This is a private home for rent, while the owner is on vacation abroad. The house is small with two bedrooms, a living room with a dining area and kitchen. There is a studio in the back yard with an additional bed. The bathroom has a shower and there is a hot tub in the yard. In this area, we live outside from 6pm onwards - there are comfortable seats and a dining table outside. While some days are too hot to be outside, evenings here are stunning! Day trips to the beaches are a pleasant get-away during the day and only 25min in the car. *** Renters must agree to feed the cat. Home is not suited for anyone with a cat allergy. *** Atascadero is 3hrs drive from San Francisco bay area and 3.5 hrs from LA. The climate is 'inland' meaning it gets very hot in the summer and there is NO rain from June to November, however, winter rains make this region less desert like and more oak studded grasslands. By June the grass has turned golden... The house is located within walking distance of restaurants, grocery, cinema and bars, but located in a quite neighborhood. Good easy access to the 101 freeway. If you've never been to California, this is probably not what you'd expect. While the beach is only a 30min away, the inland area has a very different climate. Think more 'Cowboys' and 'Western' than 'Baywatch'. This is wine country and it's horse country. You can go wine tasting from here by bike, find a stable and ride on one of the many back country trails, or you can drive to the beach, to cool down when the weather gets too hot. Hearst castle is 45min away. At night, light up the BBQ and stay outdoors where it stays warm until late, and is virtually mosquito free. Guest AccessGuest have access to everything on the property, house, studio, hot-tub, internet, etc... Interaction with GuestsI will be gone, but there will be someone local as a contact should any questions arise. The NeighborhoodWhile Atascadero is nothing like the famously beautiful and popular town of San Luis Obispo, it's only a 20min drive away, and to the north it's only a 15min drive to Paso Robles. Wine country starts a bike ride away (so you don't have to drive drunk). The beaches are also only 20min drive (Morro Bay, and Cambria is 35min away, Hearst Castle about 1hr). The house is on Olmeda Ave, which is convenient to walk to restaurants, pub/bars, bank, schools, beautifully restored city hall and park, etc... But Atascadero is not a tourist attraction. Getting AroundYou will need a car - there is just no way around it. Although there are some trains and busses and taxis... it's not recommended to rely on public transportation here. Other Things to NoteRenters must agree to feed the cat ('Jazz'). There is not much to it, just putting some food and water out (no litter box, as she uses the cat-flap to go in and out). Water indoor plants if you're staying more than a week.

Convenience and privacy afforded by off-street parking, private gated entrance, and enclosed garden. Colony Cottage: Let the peacefulness of this Craftsman style cottage ease your mind as you transition into your vacation. Deer stroll the yard each evening and you might even see a turkey or two. Walk the San Clemente loop and enjoy the diverse architecture of homes and landscaping along the route. Atascadero is centrally located to San Luis Obispo County’s many events and activities. You can travel in any direction and explore some great places in SLO County. There is Paso Robles Wine country and Lake Nacimiento to the north, to the east there is the Carissa Plains, to the west there is Morro Bay and Cayucos, to the North West there is Cambria, San Simeon including scenic Hwy 1, and to the south there is quaint Santa Margarita and Santa Margarita Lake, San Luis Obispo, Grover and Pismo Beach. San Luis Obispo County also boasts the Los Padres National Forest with plenty of hiking trails that can be accessed near Atascadero. The Cottage was simply built in the 1920's and updated with function in mind. It has a front porch with rockers that you can enjoy the evenings on...even take your meal there. There are two bedrooms; one with a queen size bed and one with a double bed. Both have a dresser and closet in their rooms. A full size oven and stove, microwave, dishwasher and full size refrigerator is provided in the kitchen. The bathroom is equipped with a shower/tub combination and a heater for your comfort. There is a barbeque in the back yard that is stored in the shed near the house. There is a BBQ and table and chairs in the back yard for your use. Step back in time a bit...hang your clothes on the clothes line for that fresh sunshine fragrance, it can be relaxing. There is no a/c, yet the ceiling fans and the double hung windows to a great job of keeping it comfortable. Interesting points of Atascadero: There is fabulous weather. The average high in the summer is 90 degrees, low is 56. The winter highs are 62 and lows are 37. The summers can be gorgeous with warm days and evenings. There is a great park and lake (normally...we are in a drought and lake is almost dry) where you can rent paddle boats, canoes, feed the ducks or have a family gathering and rent BBQ pits. Located near the park is the Charles Paddock Zoo. Atascadero hosts many events such as wine tasting, Christmas in the Park and other holiday events each weekend in December, and a summer concert series. A great place to find out more information on Atascadero is the Atascadero Chamber of Commerce at (website: hidden) We hope you enjoy your time here. While we have neighbors around us, the property has a very rural feel. Locally, there is a zoo and a great park with a small lake. A lot of people choose to walk or jog around the lake. The city of Atascadero seems to always have something going on. The Chamber of Commerce is a good site to check out.

The SpaceSleep beneath the stars while still enjoying the comforts of home. Staying in a yurt offers the best of both worlds: in an open floor plan, off the grid, beautiful round space that encourages serenity. The heat source is a wood burning stove, and the hot water is on-demand. The yurt has one queen size bed (mattress) and one full bed (futon), and two single camping cots. The walls are thick, insulated canvas that invite you to wake with the morning songbirds and sunrise, and fall asleep to the lullaby of crickets or distant coyote song at night. With a clear 6' diameter ceiling dome, watch the stars dance across the sky, or clouds sail by. The yurt is located at the edge of a ten acre property shared with two homes, one tiny guest house, 18 goats (including 10 adorable baby goats!), 30 chickens + chicks hatching each week, 2 ducks, 1 dog, one playground, one garden, and lots of beauty and adventure. Near the truly stunning beaches of the California coast, amazing wineries, and gorgeous hiking; also close to the university town of Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, there is plenty nearby to explore and enjoy. Please see more farm life photos on our Instagram at tierradelcielofarm! Guest AccessThe entire yurt and surrounding area are yours to enjoy. Separated from the main house and yard, and tucked away on a sloping hillside, this location offers peaceful privacy and quiet. We do have a playground which you are welcome to share, and our goats, chickens, and ducks love visitors! Interaction with GuestsGuests are welcome to explore and enjoy the 10 acre property; we might be away much of the weekend or working and/or playing outside ourselves, but typically our paths wouldn't cross unless you wanted them to -we're happy to share some local lore with you or leave you to enjoy the solitude of rural living :) The NeighborhoodThe yurt is located down a windy country road about 10 minutes from both Santa Margarita Lake in one direction, and in the other, the town of Santa Margarita - a small 'town' area on both sides of the road El Camino Real, where you can find The Porch Cafe, The Southern Station cafe and restaurant, The Range steakhouse, Dunbar Brewery, Ancient Peaks Wine Tasting, and Margarita Adventures, a local zip line and winery adventure tour. About 20 minutes away lies the university town of San Luis Obispo, with many parks, restaurants, cafes, wine bars, music, nightlife, and a busy community with lots to see and explore. Within 30 minutes are several breathtakingly beautiful beaches along the Central Coast of California. Getting AroundAlthough a car is necessary to get to the yurt, the town of Santa Margarita has bus transit to San Luis Obispo and beaches. There is plenty of parking very near the yurt. We can offer directions to and from local transit. The nearest airport (SBP) is about 25 minutes away by car. Other Things to Note*The yurt is a rustic, solar powered, off-grid beauty, with plenty of home-made charm. The heat source is wood-burning stove, with oak harvested from the land. There are quirks which are inherent to yurt living, including the fact that the yurt sounds like drumming when its raining (my 3 year old said it was like being in a popcorn popper)! The bathroom (with shower and toilet) and kitchen (with sink, camp stove, and cooler, and dishes/kitchenware) are homemade, built with uninsulated walls and corrugated windows; built with simplicity and necessity in mind - not luxurious, but great to have :) The electricity is run by solar panels, and does require a little mindfulness to work out the switches and details; and it does infrequently run out (don't worry, we have lanterns). There is a regular shower with on-demand hot water and regular flush toilet. The yurt is outdoor-shoes-free, so please bring slippers if you like. ** Is the yurt not available for the dates you're traveling? Please see our other listing 'Tierra del Cielo - tiny house cottage'. **
