The SpaceThis classic mountain cabin, which we have named "Mt. Elwell," is located at the edge of the northern Sierra Nevada's Mohawk Valley. Mt. Elwell is one of a cluster of cabins that were part of the Penman Peak Lumber Company established in the mid-1920's. We are 1 hour west from Reno, 50 miles north of Truckee, and 2.5 hours from the Sacramento area. With nearly a mile of the National Wild and Scenic River, the Middle Fork of the Feather winds through our forty acres and can be viewed from the private back deck. The river can be accessed in minutes by an intermediate trail directly from the cabin, by dirt road, and by vehicle for those less ambulatory. Make sure to bring your fishing pole, as this stretch of the river is known for its action! This is a great place to unplug, unwind and relax. There is no need to bring bottled water. The property boasts untreated mountain well water! Fill your water bottles before you depart. The cabin and property are available for vacations, suitable for family reunions, and also a unique retreat and workshop location. We have a 30' yurt and ceremonial circle which can accommodate up to 50 people. Folding chairs and tables are available. There are also two additional cabins available, Little Feather, which can sleep 2 guests (& 2 additional if a double futon couch is used in the living room), and Mt. Washington, which can accommodate up to 4 guests. Talk to us for more information. Bedrooms & Baths: The master bedroom has walls of windows over-looking the mountain landscape. It has a double bed and shares a bathroom complete with antique clawfoot bathtub. The adjoining bedroom is furnished with two twin beds. The third bedroom also has two twin beds and a private bathroom with shower. The parlor has a daybed which can be used as a twin, or folds out to a king-size bed. There are comfortable tri-fold mats available if needed for extra guests (bring your sleeping bags!). Cooking Facilities: The large open and airy kitchen has a decorative antique kitchen woodstove, electric range and oven, dishwasher, microwave and a standard refrigerator. It is well stocked with dishes, utensils, coffee maker and pots and pans. There is a small kitchen table that seats 4 and a dining room that easily accommodates 10. We also have folding tables and chairs and have easily hosted a crowd of 20+ for Thanksgiving. There is also a Weber gas barbeque available on the front patio. Pets: Friendly pets are welcome. There is a flat fee $40 additional charge for each pet, which is payable upon your arrival. Please advise in advance if you are bringing your pet(s). We like to limit dogs to 2. Property Amenities: The property sports trails for hiking and snowshoeing, with wonderful views of the river and mountain peaks. Nature study, swimming, fishing and camping are favorite activities. A riverside trail is currently being created, with Adirondack chairs placed along the way for riverside relaxing. One of our viewing sites has a fire pit for your use. The property is surrounded by U. S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property. What's Nearby: In Blairsden-Graeagle, only minutes away, there is the local brewery (The Brewing Lair), a small country grocery store (Graeagle Market), shops, bakery, wine tasting (Indian Peak Vineyards), yoga studio (Trails Within), restaurants, golfing range, pee wee golf, horseback riding, golf courses, and the Mill Pond for family swimming. Sierra Hot Springs, considered a sacred healing place by indigenous people, is about twenty-five minutes away in Sierraville. Beautiful historic Plumas Eureka State Park is minutes away providing additional recreational opportunities. Enchanting glacial carved mountain peaks, lakes and waterfalls adorn the backcountry offering hiking, snowshoeing, both road and mountain-biking, skiing and deep nature immersion year around. Gold Lakes Basin offers a variety of recreational activities including boating, fishing and hiking. A network of over 30 miles of maintained trails branch out across the area, and the Pacific Crest trail can be easily reached from the trail system. A full sized grocery store and more restaurants are located in Quincy which is thirty minutes west on Hwy 70, and also in Portola, fifteen minutes north-east. Portola is well-known for beautiful Lake Davis (one of California's best trophy rainbow fisheries) , the Feather River, Portola's Western Pacific Railroad Museum, James Beckwourth Historical Museum, and the Historical William's House Museum. Guest AccessExcluding the private cabins, guests have access to most of the property, which includes nearly a mile of the Feather River. There are trails that transect the property for easy navigation. There is also a dirt road for vehicle access to the river if needed (weather permitting). Interaction with GuestsI typically interact with the guests upon their arrival if desired. At that time I provide a quick overview of the cabin. If the guests want a tour to orient themselves with the property and river access, I am happy to do so. Our home is located on the property, so we are usually available if needed. There is a manual in the cabin which pretty much covers everything. The NeighborhoodLocated along scenic Highway 70, the property is surrounded by U. S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property. The property and cabins have the feel of a bygone era, within a park-like setting. With no phones, no clocks, no wi-fi; it's an excellent place to unplug from a busy life. Sitting by the Feather River is truly magical. Getting AroundThere is space for two cars at the cabin. Overflow parking is also available upon request. Other Things to NotePet Policy: Friendly pets will be accepted on a case by case basis. We charge an additional flat rate of $40 per pet that is payable upon your arrival, unless other arrangements have been made. We ask that you use a sheet to cover the furniture if your dog is used to lounging on the couch. Pets are not allowed on the beds. Dogs must be kept on leash until out in the open area away from the cabins. Do not leave your dog unattended. Wi-Fi: There is no landline phone or wireless internet provided. We use hotspots on our iPhones to access the internet. Verizon appears to have better service than AT&T. There is free Wi-Fi at “The Graeagle Outpost” next to the Graeagle Market and Mill Pond area. We hope to have high speed internet in the future as it becomes available in our rural area.

Near five golf courses, two are PGA caliber. One is walking distance, as is downtown Graeagle, a nice little village with lots of character. Wonderful hiking, fishing, and other outdoor activities. Our place is in a quiet subdivision, with a greenbelt in the back. It's located a few blocks off Rt 89, not far from the Gold Lake Road entrance which leads to some outstanding hiking trails and beautiful lakes. Walkable to town store and shops. THE NEIGHBORHOOD • The property is part of the Smith Creek Ranch planned development, a private subdivision, located within easy walking or biking distance of downtown Graeagle, in a secluded valley with a large meadow. • The home is situated on ten acres of secluded and wooded property with approximately 1,200 feet of frontage on year-round Smith Creek, which flows from spring-fed Smith Lake in the Lakes Basin Recreation Area. The ten-acre lot is completely flat to very gently rolling, and all areas on the lot, including the creek, are easily accessible for walking. • No neighboring homes on adjacent properties are visible from the house. It is very quiet, and the only sounds that are heard at any time of day or night are the wind in the trees, the birds, the creek, and occasionally a distant train whistle. GETTING AROUND • There is no public transportation. • There is a large parking area at the home that can accommodate several guest vehicles. • Parking in Graeagle and the surrounding areas is plentiful because of the rural setting. • Drive, walk or bike to the Mill Pond, grocery store, quaint shops, restaurants, etc. about one to two miles from the home.                                       Cette cabane de montagne classique, que nous avons nommé "Mt. Elwell," se trouve au bord de Mohawk Valley du nord de la Sierra Nevada, à seulement quelques miles à l'extérieur de Graeagle / Blairsden.                                         The SpaceThis classic cabin, which we have named "Little Feather," is located at the edge of the northern Sierra Nevada's Mohawk Valley. Little Feather is one of a cluster of cabins that were part of the Penman Peak Lumber Company established in the mid-1920's. The property was a site of a working lumber mill up until the mid-1940’s. This is a great place to unplug, unwind and relax. The cabin sleeps 2 comfortably. Check with us if you want to include up to 2 additional guests (double futon couch in living room). Additional fees may apply. There is no need to bring bottled water. The property boasts pure mountain well water! Fill your water bottles before you depart. The cabin and property are available for vacation get-aways, family reunions, and also a unique retreat and workshop location.* *Retreat/Workshops: We have a 30’ yurt and a ceremonial circle available for workshops and retreats, which can accommodate up to 50 people. Folding chairs and tables are available. There is also 2 additional cabins available adjacent to Little Feather, Cabin No. 5 – “Mt. Elwell,” which can sleep up to 8 guests, and "Mt. Washington," Cabin No. 4 - which can sleep up to 4 guests. Talk to us for more information. Well-behaved dogs are considered. There is a $40 flat rate fee per dog, and due to the small size of this cabin, would like to limit to 1. Please talk to us first! Guest AccessRIVER ACCESS The river may be accessed by a drivable/walkable dirt road and there is also an “intermediate” trail from the cabin to the river. For the trail, face the river from the deck; walk on the path to the left of Cabin No. 5 and look for the rocks marking the trailhead that winds down the ravine. At the bottom of the hill look for the “white chairs” towards the end of the trail, access to the river is just beyond the chairs to the right, through a tunnel/culvert. It is only about a five minute walk. The unpaved road is located through the gate to the left of our house (main “modern” house). Follow the road down the hill and turn right after the garden area. Drive past the yurt and turn right when you reach the railroad tracks, parking across from the “white chairs.” Access to the river is just beyond the chairs following a trail under the railroad tracks through a tunnel/culvert. Let me know if you want me to point you in the right direction. Accessing the river across the railroad tracks is at your own risk and is considered trespassing by Union Pacific. Please use the tunnel. A riverside trail is currently being created, with Adirondack chairs placed along the way for riverside relaxing. One of our viewing sites has a fire pit for your use. Excluding the private cabins, guests have access to most of the property. Interaction with GuestsWe live on the property, so we are usually available to assist if needed. We typically meet with guests when they first arrive to acquaint them with the cabin and the property. We can also answer any questions regarding the Graeagle area. There is a manual in the cabin with information about local dining, hiking, biking routes, etc. But we encourage you to research the area on the internet too. The NeighborhoodThe cabin is part of the old Penman Peak Lumber Company. The cabins were built in the 1930's and 40's. The site is reminicient of an old fashioned Forest Service Camp! The cabins are situated on a bluff above the river, with private access to the Feather River. Located along scenic Highway 70, the property is surrounded by U. S. Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property. Getting AroundThe cabin is about 3 miles west from the quaint town of Graeagle. What's Nearby: In Blairsden-Graeagle, only minutes away, there is the local brewery (The Brewing Lair of the Lost Sierra), a small country grocery store (Graeagle Market), shops, bakery, wine tasting (Indian Peak Vineyards), yoga studio (Trails Within), bike shop (Howling Dogs), restaurants, golfing range, pee wee golf, horseback riding, golf courses (Graeagle Meadows, Plumas Pines, Whitehawk), and the Mill Pond for family swimming. Sierra Hot Springs, considered a sacred healing place by indigenous people, is about 25 minutes away in Sierraville. Historic Plumas Eureka State Park and the Lakes Basin Recreational Area offer hiking, snowshoeing, both road and mountain-biking, skiing, fishing, boating and nature immersion year around. A network of over 30 miles of maintained trails branch out across the area, and the Pacific Crest trailcan be easily reached from the trail system. Full-sized grocery stores (Quincy Natural Foods Co-op and Safeway) and more restaurants are located in Quincy, which is approximately 20 miles west on Highway 70. In Portola, about 7 miles east is Leonard's Market and the Feather River Food Co-op) and more restaurants. Other Things to NotePet Policy: Because of the small size of this cabin, friendly pets will be accepted on a case by case basis. We prefer to limit to 1 dog. We charge an additional flat rate of $40 per pet that is payable upon your arrival, unless other arrangements have been made. We ask that you use a sheet to cover the furniture if your dog is used to lounging on the couch. Pets are not allowed on the bed. Dogs must be kept on leash until out in the open area away from the cabins. Please pick up after your pet. Wi-Fi: There is no landline phone or wireless internet provided. We use hotspots on our iPhones to access the internet. Verizon appears to have better service than AT&T. There is free Wi-Fi at “The Graeagle Outpost” next to the Graeagle Market and Mill Pond area. We hope to have high speed internet in the future as it becomes available in our rural area. We have a 22" Weber Charcoal grill for your use.

Forest Service land and to add a nostalgic reminder of our industrial age in transition, the Western Pacific railway snakes along the river the length of the property. The cabins have a lot of nostalgic ambiance that is fun to experience. There are 7 cabins total, 3 of which we offer as vacation rentals. There are common areas for our guests to enjoy including sitting areas at the river, on the bluff above the river (located in front of the cabin), and a new gathering area with fire pit. These cabins are not your typical Graeagle golf course rental. The cabin boasts pure mountain well water, so no need to bring bottled water! This is a wonderful place to unplug, unwind and relax. The cabins and property are available for vacation getaways, and are perfect for family reunions, a unique workshop/retreat location, and we will be hosting weddings in the future.* *Retreat/Workshops/Ceremonies: We have a 30' yurt, a ceremony site, and common areas available for workshops, retreats and ceremonies. Folding chairs and tables are available. There are also additional cabins available adjacent to Mt. Washington, Cabin No. 5 - "Mt. Elwell," which can sleep up to 8 guests, and Cabin No. 6 - "Little Feather," which sleeps 2 guests (with a fold-out futon couch for 2 more if necessary). Talk to us for more information. Getting AroundThe river may be accessed by driveable/walkable dirt road and there is also an "intermediate" trail from the cabin to the river. It is about a 5 minute walk. In Blairsden-Graeagle, only a short drive away, there is a local brewery, a small country grocery store, shops, bakery, wine tasting, yoga studio, bike shop, restaurants, golfing range, miniature golf, horseback riding, golf courses, and free WiFi at the Graeagle Outpost coffee shop. Sierra Hot Springs, considered a sacred healing place by indigenous people, is about a twenty-five minute drive in Sierraville. Historic Plumas Eureka State Park is minutes away providing additional recreational opportunities. The Lakes Basin Recreational Area offers a variety of recreational activities including boating, fishing, biking and hiking. A network of over 30 miles of maintained trails branch out across the area, and the Pacific Crest Trail can be easily reached from the trail system. A full sized grocery store and more restaurants are located in Quincy, which is 20 minutes west on Hwy 70, and also in Portola 15 minutes east on Hwy 70. Portola is well known for Lake Davis, the Feather River, Portola's Western Pacific Railroad Museum, James Beckwourth Historical Museum, and the Historical Williams's House Museum. Other Things to NoteWeather can be changeable during the winter months. Carry chains if you do not have a vehicle that is winter-worthy. We have a 22" Weber Charcoal grill at the cabin for our guests use. There is a cabin manual which outlines the history of the property, our favorite places to eat, and information about the area.

                                        The SpaceThe cabin, which we call "Shady", is the perfect place to set up a base camp for your hiking, biking or fishing adventures in the area. The cabin is located on 3.5 acres along the Feather River in the Plumas National Forest. It is one of 13 cabins on the property and is just 100 yards away from the river. It is just a 5-minute drive to Graeagle, Blairsden or Cromberg, and 20 minutes from the Lakes Basin. The cabin features a queen-size bed, a full kitchen with utensils and cookware, and a newly remodeled bathroom with a shower. The hosts, Dan and Shelley, live on the property and are available to answer questions or provide whatever you might need to make your stay as enjoyable as possible. Guest AccessGuests have access to the entire cabin and all the recreation activities available on the property, including ping pong, shuffleboard, horseshoes, volleyball, badminton. The cabin comes with a barbecue grill and there is a campfire pit about 20 yards from the cabin. Wood is provided. Interaction with GuestsWe live on the property. They will be available from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. most days, or 24 hours in case of emergency. Other Things to NoteGuests should know that the cabin is located in a remote setting. Most mobile phones do not work here. We provide a landline telephone for the guests to use.

The NeighborhoodThe cabin is located at Camp Layman. Dan and Shelley run the camp under a special use permit from the Plumas National Forest. Getting AroundThe cabin is just five miles from Graeagle and Cromberg. It's a 15-minute drive to Portola, 25 minutes to Quincy, and 45 minutes to Reno or Truckee. Other Things to NoteAlthough there is no internet service and cellphone reception is spotty, there is a landline telephone on the property that guests can use.
