The town has a store that stocks all sorts of sundry items as well as a meat and fish counter; additionally, there is a health food store located directly behind the public library. There, too, one can find fruits and vegetables along with a range of other products. The local restaurant in town, Coast Café, serves lunch and dinner; it also has a coffee kiosk open throughout the day. Smiley's Saloon is located directly across the street. There are a couple of surf shops that rent out wet suits and surf boards. Point Reyes Station, Olema, Inverness and other points north are a short drive, depending on traffic. The Bolinas Museum has a wonderful archival room that covers the history of Bolinas and neighboring communities. Additionaly, there are exhibits in the main rooms of the museum; these warrant a visit. Museum hours are: Friday, 1:00 - 5:00 PM; Saturday, noon - 5:00 PM; Sunday, noon - 5:00 PM. Bolinas is a great community from which to make forays farther afield. The best thing about the Bolinas area is the surrounding nature. What a way to relax and unwind. Other Things to NoteBasics, such as coffee and teas, along with some other staples, will be stocked in the kitchen while towels, shampoo, conditioner and soap will be provided in the bathroom. The bed is queen size. All windows and doors have screens. There is a laundromat, next to the hardware store in town, should you need one. WiFi tends to be slow (DSL) and coverage can be spotty. This, however, makes it easier to unplug and relax!

The SpaceEnjoy the north-central coast of California at the Quail House in Bolinas, an aesthetically pleasing, immaculately clean, and comfortable retreat for singles, couples, or couples with a child under 5 or 6. There is much attention to detail throughout this private, separate unit with its own parking place and entrance to the property. Located within a famous one and a half acre demonstration garden of coastal native plants, in the incomparable "hippie-chic" (as one visitor called it) town of Bolinas, one hour but a world away from San Francisco. At the southern end of the Pt Reyes National Seashore, 150 miles of hiking trails are available. The cottage is an entirely self-contained 400 sq. ft (20'x20') unit that includes a full kitchen and spacious bathroom, with its own parking space, visited only by you and the quail. In the surrounding garden, we grow some of the many threatened native California wildflowers, for seed-collection and for the seasonal enjoyment of our guests and us. It is one large room, with a completely equipped new kitchen area, including refrigerator, butcher block and tiled counters, and new gas stove. The style is "California bungalow." Guests often remark on the inlaid and handmade furniture. The sound of the ocean, 1/3 of a mile away, will rock you to sleep at night. Please note that we have a three-night minimum Friday thru Sunday and a two night minimum during the week. Please discuss with us if you wish to bring a child with you, so we can ensure time to "baby proof" the cottage. You will enjoy a new and very comfortable queen size bed with organic sheets and down comforters from the local organic cotton store, a reclining 2-person loveseat, and an unusually spacious bathroom with a clawfoot bathtub and on-demand unlimited hot water for long, luxurious baths. Fine bath products are available for your use, including handmade organic soaps from a creative local soapmaker. We provide Peets coffee, both caffeinated and decaf, and a wide selection of teas, with cream from a local organic dairy. We stock staples like olive oil and Balsamic and other vinegars and seasonings, and fine dutch cocoa for hot chocolate. When available, we share fresh eggs from our neighbor's backyard hens. If you come during a baking fest, you'll share in the bounty, which frequently includes native nuts and berries, like our huckleberry-hazel-nut muffins, or homemade cornbread. Books on the area are supplied, including two books written by your host, partly about the development of this garden, and published by University of California Press. Organic, local, salvaged, and re-used materials were used whenever possible in the construction of the cottage. People often ask about the floor, which is made of locally-milled California bay laurel. Tile from the venerable local Heath Tile Factory ornaments the kitchen, with a built-in butcher block counter. The high ceiling and many windows add to the pleasantness of the dappled sunlight changing throughout the day. A large coast live oak surrounds the cottage, providing roosting spaces for our local quail covey and a scenic backdrop for the cottage. Coffeeberry, coyote bush, redwoods, and many native wildflowers and bunchgrasses, surround the cottage. The garden has been designed with the needs of California quail in mind, and their sweet and varied calls can be heard throughout the day. This is why no pets are allowed. The Quail House is highly recommended for writers, with a spacious wooden dining table to spread out at, and a small private desk area as well. Your neighbors are an eclectic assortment of local fishermen, surfboard shapers, woodworkers, one publisher, and several ceramicists. Your host is the proprietor of Larner Seeds, dedicated specialists in California native plants, so plant and bird lovers will find a lot to learn and enjoy on-site as well as in the vicinity. Nearby Agate Beach is a 1/3 mile walk away, and includes Duxbury Point, a famous Marine Sanctuary for tidepooling and beach walking. It's rocky, so if you prefer a sand beach, go downtown to Brighton Beach. This town is a unique enclave of dedicated artists, writers, naturalists, and rugged individualists. If you choose, you can be busy all the time, with the many local events taking place in our lively community. A minimum stay of 3 nights is required, with a cleaning fee of $80.00 and a security deposit of $300.00. A required Transient Occupancy Tax of 10%, added to the nightly price of $190.00, is collected by us to help pay for the fact that over 50% of Marin County, the unincorporated West Marin part, is parks and open space for your enjoyment. Cancellations require one week in advance. Singles, couples, and families with one child under 5 can be accommodated. Public transportation is provided by West Marin Stagecoach. Downtown Bolinas is one of the sweetest downtowns in the world (in our opinion). Though we have only (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) people in Bolinas, downtown you will find a restaurant, two markets, the library, the post office, several shops, a saloon, a sandy beach, a second-hand store, and an excellent regional museum. A downtown like this is a real center for the community, Explore! Check out the events and classes at the Bolinas Community Center as well. Here are many interesting cultural events, and some of our visitors have thrown themselves with gusto into local events and classes. The local saloon, Smiley's, is the oldest continuously operating saloon in California, providing a continuous array of a wide variety of musicians, both local and not. There are two markets in town, one, The Bolnas Peoples Store, a natural foods store and the other, The Bolinas Market, providing local meats, seafood, and poultry. We also have a great restaurant offering local produce and seafood, the Coast Cafe, as well as a smoothie lounge called Bobolicious. The Bolinas Museum has top-quality exhibits and a fascinating and informative History Room. Musical events often take place in its courtyard. On Fridays, Star Route Farms, the oldest organic farm in the state, sells directly to the public as well. We also have a unique used bookstore, Michael's, where you can stock up on used books for $1.to $2 apiece! It is next to the Post Office on Brighton Road. Our local surf shop around the corner provides lessons and surfing supplies. Located at the southern end of the Pt Reyes National Seashore, we have access to 150 miles of trails. Nearby is the Pt Reyes Bird Observatory, a must-see, as well as Commonweal, a well-known retreat center sponsoring an impressive array of NGOs and with a lecture series packed with interesting speakers. View (EMAIL HIDDEN) A favorite trail begins at Palomarin parking lot at the end of Mesa Road, with access to Bass Lake, a favored summer swimming spot, Alamere Falls, and Pelican Lake. For the intrepid hiker looking for a challenge, these trails can be taken all the way into the northern part of Pt Reyes National Seashore. There are hikes of all lengths and difficulty. We are glad to advise you. Only an hour's drive from San Francisco, we are surrounded by national and state parks and county open space. Mt. Tamalpais State Park, with its gorgeous views, the summer Mountain Play, and an astounding number of different ecosystems, is accessed just across Hwy One on the Bolinas-Fairfax Road and includes redwoods, serpentine, grasslands, and chaparral, with numerous beautiful trails available. Hikers will never run out of hikes around here, and surfers will be happy as well. We are 10 minutes north of Stinson Beach and about half an hour from the renowned Muir Woods, where mighty redwoods can be viewed, a good stop along the way, with a great cafe and bookstore as well. We love our area and enjoy sharing it. We can advise on hikes and restaurants or leave you to your own adventures. Guest AccessGuests have the use of their own private garden immediately surrounding the Quail House, as well as total access to our entire 1.5 acre site, including the Demonstration Garden, the comfortable shady patio in the courtyard by our house, their own private raised deck, their own private parking space, the pond area by the Larner Seeds Office, and all the nooks and crannies and areas of special plantings. You are heartily encouraged to explore! There is an outdoor shower by one of the bathrooms that guests are welcome to use, and for stays of over 3 days, a washer & dryer are available in the office bathroom. The whole garden is available, and we love to see guests finding their own favorite garden spots. We also frequently host day after the wedding brunches for up to 45 people in the Quail House Garden, you supply the caterer. Additional cost depends on the details. Interaction with GuestsAs far as interactions with guests go, we follow your lead. If we are around, we do like to orient guests to the location as well as: how the heater works, how the couch reclines, which direction is Agate Beach - and to answer any questions. For those times when we are gone, we have left detailed instructions in the folder marked "Welcome to the Quail House." Because of my work with native plants in areas all over California, we are sometimes of necessity out of town during guest stays, but we are always available by phone. Also, two grandsons in LA sometimes requires out presence. The Larner Seeds Staff is here 3 days a week, gone working in the field the rest of the time, but they are helpful with native plant questions and local information. The NeighborhoodQuiet, friendly, full of interesting people. A fine ceramicist specializing in porcelain lives across the street and is glad to show her work. Two fishermen live on the block as well as a famous surfboard shaper. Across the way is a well-known artist and en plein air painter, who also has a gallery downtown. Getting AroundSome - mentioned elsewhere. Your own parking space is conveniently located to the Quail House, and is marked by the quail sculptures on the gate. Most guests rent cars at the airport. Transportation from the airport can also be arranged by private van service from Bolinas, or a combination of buses will get you to Bolinas. We can pick you up from the bus stop, which is in downtown Bolinas. Other Things to NoteGuests who wish to sample the life of the town are advised to either pick up a copy of our local paper, the Hearsay News, or find it (EMAIL HIDDEN) Classes in all kinds of things are available at the Community Center, and there are many interesting cultural events to be enjoyed as well.

The SpaceSmiley’s Schooner Saloon was established in 1851 and has been in continual operation in the same stalwart and storied building since - and we've yet to find an older bar west of the Mississippi. The saloon is believed to have been built for the energetic young Captain Isaac Morgan who arrived in Bolinas (or Jugville as it was known then) in 1849. Those were gold rush days, days of growth; when one gambled with one’s dreams and then watched them either shatter and splinter or be crafted and honed into realities. Smiley’s is known among musicians for gigs that come with free beds and a spirited crowd and to music fans as a place to catch artists like the Sam Chase and California Honeydrops. Check out our social media and website for our music calendar. So now you’ll need a place to rest your head; in an outbuilding behind the bar, you’ll find Smiley’s Sleeping Quarters: 6 private rooms with brand new organic linens and mattresses. Room 2 has one queen bed and 1 single day bed with a single pop-up trundle. While we still have a long way to go, we’re happy to report that our rooms are no longer “a warren of stale-smelling rooms hastily constructed behind the town’s only bar" as the New York Times called them in their quirky June 2014 article about Bolinas. Guest AccessOur bartenders are on site until (at least) midnight to check you in, give you your keys and answer any questions. We do not have a reception desk or concierge right now; once you have your keys you are on your own to come and go as you please. Interaction with GuestsGuests are encouraged to mingle with other guests, locals and visitors in the Saloon. Ashley, one of the owners, lives just down the road and is available in case of an emergency - or for a friendly chat over a glass of wine. The NeighborhoodSurrounded by protected parks and ocean, the tiny town of Bolinas provides a wild, peaceful escape from the bustle of San Francisco just 25 miles away. Be sure to read up on the history of Bolinas and the many articles written about what do to in and around west Marin: oysters at Marshall Store, horseback riding at Five Brooks Ranch, bird watching at the Observatory, rope swing at Bass Lake, mountain and road bike trails, surf spots, crabbing, tidepooling, fishing, farming and way more. Every day here is a blessing. Getting AroundMost people drive to Bolinas...and the town is notoriously without signage, but there is public transportation to Bolinas from "over the hill" via the Marin Stagecoach. Parking can be tough on weekends, but hotel guests enjoy reserved spots in our private lot. Bikes are recommended. Other Things to Note*Please note that live music often results in some excess noise (and fun) later into the evening.* At this time, Smiley's rooms aren't suitable for children or for folks in need of total peace and quiet.

The NeighborhoodRugged yet peaceful Agate Beach is a five minute walk from our home, and downtown Bolinas is a 20 minute walk. Getting AroundThere is no public transportation around Bolinas, but you wouldn't want to get on a bus in this secluded little paradise. Exploring Bolinas on foot is one of the best ways to get to know the town. Walk to the organic Bolinas People's Store downtown in 25 minutes, or adventure from Agate Beach to Brighton Beach at low tide and find sea lions, birds, star fish and maybe even a fossilized sand dollar! Bolinas is about a 1 hour 20 minute drive from SFO. If you want to travel around West Marin or take a hike on Mt. Tam, check out the West Marin Stagecoach. Other Things to NoteUpdate: We are currently having issues with our internet connection which is very spotty and slow. If you are in need of a strong internet connection during your visit, the Bolinas Library is a great resource!

The Space**Slight construction discount (see below)** This is a small bungalow (10' x 12'), but it packs a lot of punch in its space. It has a skylight, lots of windows, high ceilings, and french doors and gets great light. Outdoor is great sunlight, and is sheltered nicely from the wind. It has a small brick patio outside the door and sits within our small compound and garden. Private, detached, bathroom is short walk away from your bungalow. It has an indoor sink and toilet and an OUTDOOR SHOWER (Roof, wall on one side, open on 3 sides with privacy screen) - you are showering in the privacy of the woods. Dedicated European style tankless hot water heater. Our guests say this about our shower 'best experience I've had in my life'. And 'I was a little apprehensive of the shower because I thought it would be cold. It turned out being the highlight of my visit!' It is a short walk to the beach in either direction and your bungalow is located literally in the heart of downtown, but a world away. **CONSTRUCTION UPDATE** May 2016 -Bungalow, new, working 100%. Bathroom 100% functioning but not 100% finished out - needs step up, sheetrock finished. towel racks, etc. Shower finished out 100% Guest AccessThis studio has its own private entrance/gate and its own private patio. The bungalow is brand new. You are free to use the main entrance, but if you use the side gate, the dogs won't bark hello. No parking on premises. Park anywhere on Wharf Road. We can assist with parking if needed. Interaction with GuestsWe can be friendly and full of suggestions if you'd like, or leave you alone if you'd prefer. You're in charge. Easy self check in (directions sent before arrival) and out. Text us as you get close/arrive, as getting lost is common. We are a text away if you need anything. The NeighborhoodWe are literally in the middle of town and our street deadends into the Ocean (our street is an active, but small, fishing port). Wharf road is the main commercial road in town with 2 grocery stores - general and organic (John's and the People Store), Coast Cafe (Seafood caught from boats on our street! and other fare), Smiley's Schooner Saloon (live music), Beth's bakery, Buzz's surf shop and more. The beach is a short walk in either direction from outside your bungalow. It is busy during the day, especially on weekends and in the summer, and very quiet, neighborhood feel at night. Getting AroundBolinas is famous for being hard to find. The road signs have been missing since the early 80's when the state gave up on putting them back up, after the locals repeatedly tore them down. And consistent with our town, your bungalow is hidden as well. Don't worry, we'll let you know how to find us before your stay! Note: there is no parking on site, but easy parking on the street (during the week) and we'll help you find a space on the weekend if needed. Park on Wharf or Brighton road and call/text us when you arrive/get lost. Other Things to NoteThis is a great spot to rest after a night listening to live music at Smiley's or after dinner at the Coast Cafe. Or just a peaceful place to relax after a full day of surfing or hanging out at the beach. You are located literally in the heart of downtown, but you'll feel like you left civilization far behind! 1 day and night here equals 3 anywhere else. If you are here for one day, plan on not leaving. You can walk to everything from your bungalow. If you are here for more than one day we can give you suggestions of things nearby. Though, truth be told, we've spent entire week's JUST on wharf road and never missed a thing. The entire world wants to live on this street, now you do.

The SpaceI love grabbing my cup of tea in the morning and heading up to the top of the hill behind the house to the upper deck where I sit and watch the surf roll in while the morning fog rolls out. At night, watching the moon rise over the lights of San Francisco on a clear night is quite a sight. I also love sitting in the hot tub while sipping wine and gazing at the millions of stars and the milky way--absolutely incredible. After enjoying the hot tub on a cold night, coming indoors to a roaring, crackling fire is such a treat. I hope you will not only enjoy these things, but create your own amazing memories during your stay. Guest AccessAll areas. Interaction with GuestsI am available by text message, email or phone during your stay. During business hours, please send a text message as I may not answer calls from unfamiliar phone numbers. The NeighborhoodWe chose Bolinas because it as private as a beach town in California could be. With only 750 homes total, off-season you often have the beach completely to yourself (and a few diehard surfers of course). Bolinas is one of California's best kept secrets and like no other place in the world. There is one restaurant called "The Coast Cafe", one bar called "Smileys" and two grocery stores. For produce, I suggest the Co-op located behind the community center & for meat, The Bolinas General Store has Niman Ranch beef. Getting AroundThere is a bus that services Bolinas. It is called the West Marin Stagecoach. Visit (URL HIDDEN) for more information. Other Things to NotePlease Note: We are on a cliff above the ocean and there is not direct beach access from the house unless you are going to repel down the cliff face. There is a short walk from my street onto Terrace Avenue where you will walk toward town until you see the public stairs down to the beach after the guardrail / surfer's outlook.
