Upscale neighborhood close to Capitola by the Sea. Breakfast included! SHARED SPACE/HOSTED APT. Adults only. Not kid friendly. NO children or pets allowed. Before you book your stay review the listing description and my House Rules thoroughly to align your expectations regarding the accommodations. I know there is a lot of info/text here but I have attempted to cover all the bases in this description of my unit, location and amenities so that you can make a wise choice. PLEASE make an INQUIRY before making a pending reservation. I prefer that you communicate with me first so that you have up to the minute info about my space and we make sure that it is a good fit for you and your plans. NO PIC + NO INFO = NO BOOKING. If you are new to Airbnb please take the time to fill out your profile with some information about yourself other than your name, upload a clear photo of yourself and work on getting your verification. I will also need a cell phone number for you and your traveling companion. Please be aware: This is a SHARED SPACE with a SHARED Bathroom. Me and my partner live here full time. We use the master bedroom, and guests use the Guest/ massage room. I do not rent out my master bedroom. Sometimes I am away on vacation or sleep at my friends house and I will keep you up to date of my own travel plans. I have ONE guest room with ONE oversized, super comfortable full size bed, and I can put up the queen airbed for additional people. The full size bed is a regular bed and I only put up the airbed when I have a special request for it. I also just purchased a tri fold sleeping mat. There is an additional charge for the airbed and extra guests. Two new wave storm foam surfboards for your use. READ THIS BEFORE INQUIRY!! My rules state that only approved registered guests/visitors are allowed access to my space and others will be considered trespassing and the authorities will be notified. You and your unregistered person will be asked to leave immediately. I do not rent my place by the hour, so don't even ask! Tell me a little about yourself. I will also need to know the ages of everyone in your party and the purpose of your visit. The more info you can supply, the easier it will be for me to approve your reservation request. You must be able to climb stairs...there is no working elevator in the building. I am the top unit of a two story building. Once again, this is a shared apt. Most of the time I am home and living in the apt, and I sleep in the master bedroom. You have use of the private guest bedroom, however we DO share a full bathroom. If you have an additional person, or simply do not want to share a bed, I do have a new Costco Queen Airbed with headboard. Quite comfortable and better than sleeping on the floor. It is an additional $20 to set up the airbed for the second person. I need to know in advance if there will be an extra person as I need to rearrange a few things in the guest room to accommodate the airbed. If you are a couple and have a third person sharing the room and using the airbed it is an additional $36 for third person, for a total of $56 for the third person. Please let me know in advance if you need the airbed in addition to the regular full size bed in your room. The last few pictures show the airbed in the guest room. Additional guest MUST be approved by me, in advance. Guest room does not have a view of the ocean, however you can hear the waves. Dining table faces out to the ocean/beach and Capitola Village. My apartment only has one full bathroom and it is shared. Obviously I wish I had another bathroom but there are just some things in life you can't change so you learn to compromise gracefully. I do not work a regular job so I won't be hogging the bathroom in the morning! And most mornings I am at the gym. You get first dibs! Usually it is just me staying at the (URL HIDDEN) no wait for the loo. If I am not traveling myself I will be sharing the apt with you. I sleep in the master bedroom with my partner. Sometimes a friend will be acting as my co-host and staying in my room in the event that I am on vacation. We are very quiet and respectful of your time here. We will have to share the one hall bathroom as well - so far this has not caused any problems with me or my guests. Reminder...this is not a sterile, overpriced hotel room. This is a SHARED, affordable lodging experience at the beach!! If you are not comfortable staying with strangers, then this is not the ideal situation for your needs. Capitola has lots of lodging options. If you need complete privacy I am sure that you will find the perfect space for your getaway, if you do your research. Public transit is within walking distance. Bed linens, bath towels (please do NOT take them to the beach), and toilet paper will be provided. You will need to bring beach towels for your use, as I do not provide them. I do not have a coffee pot (I don't drink coffee), but I do have a tea kettle for your use. My cottage is 3.7 miles to down town Santa Cruz (Pacific Ave), 3.8 miles to the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, 1.8 miles to Capitola Village, and .2 miles to a local market. The outside looks a little old, but the inside was recently remodeled NO SMOKING INSIDE I book up to 3 months in advance. Do to my schedule, I can only rent out on weekends unless otherwise noted in my calendar. I would prefer 2 people, but the couch can be turned into a bed (single) that could accommodate a 3rd person (for a small fee). If you would like the couch made into the bed, please request. It isn't the most comfortable, but it gets the job done :) I have a dog that lives with me. He will NOT be at the house while you stay there. The three guest rooms inside our home offer either a queen bed (Jade Studio and Peach Room) or double futon bed (Ginger Room), with optional optional single temporary bed in each room, and 10% discount with each additional room you book. We are tucked away from the street near a lovely walk/bike path to the beach--no need to walk on a main street or take a car out into traffic. Our modest garden is serene and renewing . . . grass to sit in or do yoga by the rock waterfall . . . flowering plants, fruit trees and vines . . .porch and brick patios, hot tub . . . with an opportunity for you to receive massage or acupuncture right in your private room or in the garden by healing artists who live nearby. We have some bicycles available for lending in this bicycle-friendly town. We provide a healthy environment, use green and non-toxic products whenever possible, non-scented soaps and detergents. We are eco-friendly, use solar panels, hang dry clothes when possible, conserve water, and recycle. We would like to share with you a review from Oct. 2015 that we feel encapsulates the essence of the Jade Studio: "The hosts made us feel right at home . . . They were very respectful, giving us as much privacy as we wanted while still being warm and friendly when we crossed paths. The Jasmine Gardens Studio was a lovely little private suite in their home, exactly as described in the posting. We had a private entrance, quaint kitchenette for some basic foodstuffs, and a large lovely bathroom. There was plenty of natural light and the neighborhood was safe and quiet. The studio really encapsulated the laid back Santa Cruz vibe. A wonderful little public beach was just a short walk down the road with the main boardwalk a short drive away. We can't wait to come back and explore the area a bit more. Thank you so much for being wonderful hosts and making sure everything we needed was seen to. We especially loved the fresh fruit and oatmeal provided. Your garden was an especially lovely place to sit as we did this morning for our last breakfast . . . Thanks for a perfectly romantic and lovely weekend! Guest AccessJADE STUDIO-- ROOM LAYOUT: The second-story Jasmine Garden Studio is inside the house. It has a private entrance through a private deck at the top of an outside stairway. It is one of two master bedroom suites on the second floor. The bedroom has a pillow top queen bed, large futon chair, chest of drawers, and kitchenette with table and chairs. Additional single bed available (see below). A large window looks east to catch the morning sun across the deck. Windows into the cathedral ceiling of the common room bring in extra light from a skylight, and look down on our common room (they have shades if you want to block off the view for privacy). The studio space includes a closet and a windowed bathroom with spacious tiled shower (it is actually a tub-for-two, but not functioning as such due to current drought situation and local water restrictions). EATING: The kitchenette includes table with chairs, refrigerator, microwave, toaster oven, hot plate, sink, and cabinets with dishes, simple cooking supplies and a small window overlooking the table. We leave a simple breakfast for the first morning (instant organic oatmeal and organic fruit). Coffee table is available in common room (see below). COMMON AREAS: The downstairs common room has a wood stove and bay window overlooking the gardens with sitting areas, printed local information, and hot water dispenser with coffee and assortment of teas available for guests. This common room is shared by guests from all three guest rooms. A door from the studio to the landing can be unlocked if you choose to walk downstairs to the common room or enter/exit through the house. The garden with its patios, pond & waterfall, hot tub and gentle sound of the surf at night are also shared by all. ADDITIONAL BED: In case of third guest the futon chair can be opened up into a single bed, and we make the bed up with linens as the additional single bed. We ask an extra $30 per night for a third person. If you want the extra bed for only two people occupying the room, we ask a one-time $30 set-up/clean-up charge. Interaction with GuestsEverything is set up for guests to be as independent as you choose--We offer three B&B rooms in our home that are self-sufficient, with the garden and hot tub open to all guests. We are developing an informational notebook in the common room about the property, the neighborhood, healing artists who deliver services to the home, directions to the beach, bike rentals, local eateries, shops, and other Santa Cruz attractions. We encourage guests to bring back menus from restaurants they have enjoyed to add to the notebook. We are warm and friendly people, and Peter, who is a long-time Santa Cruz resident particularly enjoys sharing his knowledge about Santa Cruz and the environs. If we are not home when you need something, then we are usually accessible by text or phone. When we are traveling abroad, other knowledgeable and gracious hosts run our AirBnB. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is a relatively quiet neighborhood with an assortment of people who enjoy living near the beach--including long-time residents, families, retired people, UCSC students, and surfers interspersed to keep it characteristic of Santa Cruz. Two blocks away is a modest shopping center which hosts the local farmer's market on Sunday mornings. A handful of eateries and a coffee shop, from fast food to upscale dining, line the two blocks toward the beaches. A back way to the beach (our special secret) is three lovely blocks, two of which are walking/biking trails, one lined with Cypress trees, and the next along a lagoon lined with Eucalyptus trees. The Harbor and Crows Nest restaurant and nightclub are a several blocks to the west along the shore. Downtown Santa Cruz is 3 miles west and Capitola, a quaint seaside town, is 2 miles east. Both are easily accessible by bike lanes, public transportation and car. Getting AroundBike travel is a dream with bike paths right from our home both east and west along the coast. There are bike lanes all through town, and longer bike trails in the area. We have a few bikes that we loan guests (reservations required) and easy access to bike rental shops nearby. Our location is very convenient for public transportation. The bus stop is around the corner that takes you directly to downtown Santa Cruz. The local bus service hooks up with service to San Jose, Caltrain, and all the Bay Area Transit systems including both San Jose and San Francisco Airports. From the airport, use Bay Area Transit system to Diridon Station in San Jose. From there you can catch the Hwy 17 Express to Santa Cruz. From the Santa Cruz downtown station take Santa Cruz Metro Bus 66 or 68 (Live Oak) to the bus stop nearest the intersection of 17th and Portola. The intersection is 2 blocks from our house. Car travel is convenient . . . street parking with no meters along our street. We use our carport as an unloading/loading zone for our guests' convenience. Other Things to NoteNOISE: Our house has three Airbnb rooms, and sound travels in our home, so please be considerate of others during our quiet hours (9:00pm to 7:30am). Due to this we try to restrict the house furnace (located near the studio bathroom) in the winter months to 5:00 to 6:00am. NO SHOES: Because we are a shoes-free home, slip-on slippers and slip-on garden shoes are handy to leave inside and outside the door. CHECK-IN, CHECK-OUT: Check-in time is 3:00pm and check-out time is 11:00am. Feel free to leave luggage on the porch and make yourselves at home if you wish to arrive early or stay late. BICYCLES: (1) To borrow our bicycles, there is no charge, but we ask for donations (suggested $10 per day). Contact us if you want to reserve them. They are for road and bike path use only, not mountain biking or beach biking. (2) Rental bikes are available from Bicycle Trip, which includes a pick-up and drop-off service. (3) If you bring your own you can lock them in our back yard or under our carport. HEALING SESSIONS: If you are interested in receiving massage, acupuncture, cranio-sacral therapy or Rolfing here, then message me and I will send you our list of healing artists so that you can make your appointment before you arrive. WATER CONSERVATION: Santa Cruz area has been suffering a severe water shortage, and water is rationed. We have installed low flush toilets, we re-use grey water when possible, and we ask our guests to minimize their water usage. There is an oversized tub in your room, but we ask that you only use the shower. Feel free to use the garden hot tub. USE OF DECK: Your private deck faces east & south, so we hang our laundry on it a few days a week between 11:00am and 3:00pm, and restrict our pot-watering to those hours to minimize disturbing you.

Remodeled bathroom, comfortable, very quiet and private, green, a very short walk to the amenities (restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, stores, a movie theater,...even a mall about 1 mile away) of 41st Ave and to Pleasure Point - famous surfers' spot - and great walks by the ocean with several access paths to the beaches! 10 min drive to downtown Santa Cruz. Plenty of public transportation in this area. I offer a map with a list of our best local spots that all guests find very useful. I have HS internet, wifi, but no TV. One bedroom is set up for a couple, with a real bed, the other room is my therapy studio, which can easily become a temporary bedroom. I have incredibly comfortable thick futons - 1 for 2 people who want to sleep together, and also 2 more single futons. All new! Everything is very clean and neatly organized, linen closet furnished with all you can possibly need, and labeled for your convenience. The comfortable kitchen is equipped with cast iron pans, stainless steal pots, all sorts of quality kitchen machines and gadgets for your cooking fun. For a 5th person I will charge $25 x day, $100 x week, $350 x month. SPECIAL OFFER FOR DECEMBER 2016!! Inquire. Guest AccessGuests will have access to the entire house, front and back gardens. Interaction with GuestsI will be interacting with the guests as much or as little as they need me to. I am not present when the house is rented, but my neighbor Kristi is available, 'next door', and I am only a phone call - or e mail - away. The Neighborhood It' s Capitola! Pleasure Point! Beaches at 10 minutes walk! Same for restaurants, coffee shops... Trader Joe's (the best - quality and economical - grocery store) and health food stores a few minutes of car drive. All you need and might desire nearby. The house is close to all this, but in such a quiet little spot. Nice neighbors. ...what else? Ask me. Getting AroundThere are two bus lines, at walking distance. You are 10 minutes drive from downtown Santa Cruz, not even 5 minutes drive from any store you can think of, from Trader Joe' s to Health Food Stores, to regular supermarkets, to an entire Mall. You can walk to breakfast joints, coffee shops and some cute neighborhood stores in 5 minutes. You can walk to the ocean in 10 minutes. Other Things to NoteI remind here that there is no TV.

The NeighborhoodLive Oak is a very beachy part of Santa Cruz. It still has old houses and a funky surf vibe. You can still see some of the old farms that made up most of Live Oak. A great Farmers Market on Sundays is literally around the corner. There are lots of restaurant options within walking distance too; Hawaiian, Mexican, Italian, Pizza. Getting AroundNothing is very far in Santa Cruz. We are located between the Santa Cruz Harbor and Pleasure Point. With tons of fun areas to explore in between. Other Things to NoteWe are health conscious (of course, this is Santa Cruz :), so really don't want any smoking in the cottage or yard for that matter. We also cannot allow dogs. We have a new pup, Elle. She is very friendly. We ask that you make sure she doesn't go out the side gate.

The SpaceMy home is a sweet place to stay. It is a comfortable, clean, homey visit in Santa Cruz. The location lends itself to easy and quick access to many sweet spots in Santa Cruz and Capitola. I enjoy the patio in the backyard on mild mornings and it 's especially enjoyable on summer evenings. UCSC is a little farther away, approximately 20 - 25 minutes without traffic. Guest AccessCheck-in during week nights is after 6 pm due to my work schedule and the cute pup. On Friday, Saturday and Sunday check-in after 4pm. Interaction with GuestsI am generally available to guests at check-in and periodically throughout their stay as I reside in the home. I often times will enjoy a chat with my guests although it is not at all expected. My pup is very interested in everyone who walks through the front door and in her own way requires that you greet her. She is a golden doodle and generally awesome. She does bark as to protect, but she is just waiting to make friends with you ASAP.

The SpaceWe are Marie & Peter, a married couple hosting you in our home located three blocks from the beach. Our three rooms offer either a queen bed (Jade Studio and Peach Room) or double futon bed (Ginger Room), with optional optional single temporary bed in each room, and 10% discount with each additional room you book. We are tucked away from the street near a lovely walk/bike path to the beach--no need to walk on a main street or take a car out into traffic. Our modest garden is serene and renewing . . . grass to sit in or do yoga near the rock waterfall . . . flowering plants, fruit trees and vines . . .porch and brick patios, hot tub . . . with an opportunity for you to receive massage or acupuncture right in your private room or in the garden by healing artists who live nearby. We have some bicycles available for lending in this bicycle-friendly town. We provide a healthy environment, use green and non-toxic products whenever possible, non-scented soaps and detergents. We are eco-friendly, use solar panels, hang dry clothes when possible, conserve water, and recycle. We would like to share with you a review from April 2016 that we feel encapsulates the essence of the Ginger Room: Our 3-person family spent 5 nights in this wonderful, clean & peaceful home. We all enjoyed time in the beautiful garden with all the flowers. Marie & Peter are wonderful, kind people and hosts, with thoughtful touches like flowers in your room and recycling & compost as well. Peter was very helpful with information about the area. We appreciated that they use eco cleaners with no fragrances. Their home is at the end of a quiet alley in a mellow neighborhood. We loved walking to the beach every morning (about 3 blocks). The Ginger Room was a tight fit for 3 of us (our 10 yr was on a folding mattress on the floor), but we happily made it work. The futon bed was very comfortable too! Sound does travel easily through the walls of the house, so it requires other renters to be conscientious of doors and voices. A wonderful place to spend our spring break, hopefully we can come back! Guest AccessGINGER ROOM: ROOM LAYOUT: Ginger Room has a double bed with soft foam pillow topped futon, antique vanity and small desk. If you are a tall person, the double futon bed may be too short due to close headboard and footboard, so you might want one of the other two rooms which have spacious queen beds. Additional single bed available (see below). One window faces the garden to the south, the other faces the garden to the west (that houses the namesake, the ginger plant). Guests in the Ginger Room share the single downstairs full bathroom with bath/shower with the guest(s) in the other downstairs guest bedroom (Peach Room). EATING: The room has a refrigerator and microwave oven, with dishes and simple breakfast the first morning (instant organic oatmeal and organic fruit). Coffee table available in common room (see below). COMMON AREAS: The common room has a wood stove and bay window overlooking the gardens with sitting areas, printed local information, and hot water dispenser with coffee and assortment of teas available for guests. This common room is shared by guests from all three guest rooms. The garden with its patios, pond & waterfall, hot tub and gentle sound of the surf at night are also shared by all. ADDITIONAL BED: In case of third guest we make up a tri-fold bed on the floor with linens as an additional single bed. We ask an extra $15 per night for a third person. There is a one-time $15 set-up/clean-up charge if you want the extra bed for only two people occupying the room. Getting AroundOur location is very convenient for public transportation. Bike travel is a dream with rentals accessible, bike lanes all through town, and longer bike trails in the area. Other Things to NoteNOISE: Our house has three Airbnb rooms, and sound travels in our home, so please be considerate of others during our quiet hours (9:00pm to 7:30am). Due to this we try to restrict the house furnace in the winter months to 5:00 to 6:00am.

The SpaceOur place has a very classic yet modern feel with a slight Asian look and all the conveniences of home. We enjoy yoga, biking and watersports like surfing, stand up paddling, and sailing. You'll often find us spending time working in the garden and entertaining in our home. The room is our newly remodeled private guest room with a clean, sparse aesthetic. The new linen sofa bed is totally adjustable and super comfortable. We provide you with nice linens and blankets. The desk is equipped with a mac charger, video and audio components. There is a large monitor that is equipped to accept video so you can watch Netflix, a movie or web TV. You can also plug your iPhone/iPod right into a set of speakers to have music in your room. A wifi capable printer is available for you to print your boarding pass or other docs. There are dozens of books in the room for you to peruse! The dresser has 3 drawers available and there is space in the closet. A large window allows in nice morning sun but there is also a shade for privacy. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use all common spaces, outdoor garden and hot tub. Bikes available for an additional $20/day. Interaction with GuestsWe are both engrossed in our businesses right now. As much as we love to meet people, family and work are our top priorities right now. So, while we can offer helpful hints to our guests about our area and give recommendations, we won't have time to share meals or be a guide. We do travel frequently so our presence during your stay depends on our schedules, which we will gladly share with you! The NeighborhoodThe Jewel Box is a popular neighborhood in Capitola, with all the street names being jewels. It is very family friendly, safe and quiet but very close to the ocean beaches, parks, walking paths, shops and restaurants. Jade Street Park is two blocks away with 4 tennis courts and the cliffs offer a spectacular view of the Monterey Bay Marine Sanctuary. The climate is very mild year round so our neighborhood is usually alive with families and visitors spending time outdoors. We hope you will love it here as much as we do! Getting AroundOur cottage is located just off Highway 1 yet tucked away in a residential neighborhood where there isn't much traffic. In general, busses can get you where you need to go. We like to bike if we aren't going more than a few miles away. And everything is very walkable from our home...a few blocks to the seaside Capitola Village and the famed Pleasure Point surf breaks. Grocery, salons, boutiques and restaurants are all nearby. Other Things to NoteThis is the perfect place to stay if you are coming into town for the Begonia Festival, Wharf to Wharf footrace or the Art and Wine Festival...close to the Village but out of the fray and chaos during those and other events!

It is comfortable home with a lovely garden, a pond with waterfall, conducive to meditation or simply sitting and enjoying nature. Tucked away down a private dirt lane, our bungalow is light & bright with loads of charm, a private oasis with a huge private yard. Beach, surfing, surf shops and restaurants all within a 10 minute walk. Quaint Capitola village is 1 mile away. We have brand new furniture throughout the house so you get the perfect mix of modern and classic bungalow. It's incredibly cute. We love our home, and we hope you will too! It is an old home, and not a party pad. Please treat it with the same respect you would your own home. The house sits at the end of a long driveway off of 35th Ave. shared with our two neighbors. Being at the end of the lane and far from the street makes our house a quiet and private escape. We're on the north side of Portola, which means you are just as close as all the vacation rentals (we're a 9 minute walk from the beach - we timed it, surf board in hand!) but without the high price tag! The backyard is an oasis filled with fruit trees. There is a small patio off the kitchen where you can enjoy coffee, and a large deck out back with plenty of seating, where you sit and read a book, play a game with your fmaily, eat your meals or just space out and enjoy the fresh air! The home was built in the 40s and is incredibly cute and quaint, with all the charm of an old house. You'll feel right at home. Walk a few minutes to the east and you're on 41st Ave, with all the surf shops (and board rentals), Pleasure Pizza, Chill Out Cafe, and dozens of other dining options. Everything you need is within walking distance. You can wake up every morning and go for a run along East Cliff or hop in at the point for a surf. Prefer to just lay out on the beach? Head down 36th Ave straight to Jack O'Neill's house and down the stairs to the beach. It doesn't get much better and we're sad to not be able to enjoy our home ourselves, but are thrilled that you will be able to! BEDROOMS Master: lovely and bright and opens up onto the deck. Comfy queen bed. Second: bright and at the front of the house with another comfy queen bed. Guest: this is the kids room! It has a door that opens onto the front of the house and will have two cozy twin beds, perfect for the kids. BATHROOMS One: bathroom with shower and mini-atrium, right next to the master and second bedroom Two: bathroom with shower and connected laundry room off of the dining room, across from the kids room. WASHER/DRYER Perfect for all those beach towels! LOCATION Please do note that we are at the end of a 200ft long dirt driveway with space for only one car. If you're coming with multiple cars, you'll need to park the extra cars on the street. The lane is shared with our neighbors and requires backing out of (there's no turnaround). Just a heads up so you know ahead of time! Pleasure Point is a surfer's paradise! We are just over the line (known as Portola Rd) from the dense vacation rental space. We love it because it means you're just as close but in a quieter, more residential area. Unlike the West Side, where you're in a much more suburban area, we are just minutes from great shopping and dining so you get the best of both worlds! Whole Foods, Safeway, Target and Macy's are all just a short 5 minute drive away. Capitola Village is a beautiful 1.5 mile stroll from our house - great for morning walks!
