The SpaceThe cottage is a detached unit in the rear of the property with easy access through a backyard gate. From here you have full use of the yard and everything it has to offer. This includes a cool, inviting swimming pool, with plenty of comfortable seating on the pool deck, just the thing to beat the heat during warm summer months. there is also a gas barbecue available. The cottage itself offers comfort and privacy. It has a studio layout which consists of a living/bedroom area, a bathroom, and a kitchen. The living/bedroom area contains a very comfortable queen bed, a single wide sofa bed which is quite comfortable for sitting and sleeping. The HD satelite TV ( which includes HBO, Showtime and other premium channels ) can be comfortably viewed from the bed and sofa. The room also has a desk which is stocked with brochures and guides to Chico and the surrounding area. the Kitchen is fully equipped with a refrigerator, four burner gas stove with oven, and a microwave. We offer full coffee service with an automatic drip brewer and a french press with grinder and whole beans (regular and decaf). There is also a table and four chairs. The bathroom contains a tiled, glass enclosed shower. Ample bath towels, hand towels, facecloths, and pool towels are provided. We also supply organic soaps, shampoos and conditioners. If eating in is your pleasure we have tried to provide all pots, pans and utensils you might need. Our home is on the property so we are available for any of your needs. We have lived here for over 30 years and we love our neighborhood. One great thing about living here is that we have formed lasting friendships with many of our neighbors. Also, we are very fortunate to be surrounded by family. Our daughter Erin and her husband Russell live across the street with their dachshund Peanut, several chickens, and two squirrels (rescued as babies on a windy day). Kay's sister Pat lives next door. Kay and Pat are both ceramic artists and Pat runs a fully equipped ceramic studio on her property, offering studio time to the public. Over the past several years, a number of people have become regulars and are now close friends. We believe we have created a warm, comfortable atmosphere, and hope we can add you to the list of friends we have made since becoming Airbnb hosts in 2014. Guest AccessGuests can have access to the pool, the yard, and on-street parking. We have a barbecue and a solar-powered clothes dryer (clothes-line). Interaction with GuestsWe live on the property in the main house so we are available at anytime of the day and night according to your needs. The NeighborhoodWe live in an area of Chico known by old timers as the Vecino district. Our immediate neighborhood is a quiet, long established one with older well kept homes, almost all of which are owner occupied. We have lived here since 1984 and have made lasting, close relationships with many of our neighbors. A great benefit of living in this area is, while quiet, it is still within walking distance of our beautiful downtown with it's many excellent shops and restaurants, the Saturday morning farmers market, Friday concerts in the Plaza ( during summertime ) and much more. Chico State University and Enloe Hospital are also a short walk away, as is lower Bidwell Park, a must see if time permits. Better yet, take the time to continue four miles up Lower Park to Upper Park which is carved into the beautiful canyons of the lower Sierra Nevada Mountains which come down to meet the eastern edge of Chico. Getting AroundChico is now served by Uber and has several cab companies as well as public bus service. We are in a beautiful neighborhood, centrally located within walking distance of downtown, the University, and Enloe Hospital. Other Things to NoteAs noted in the property description the cottage sleeps three. the main bed is a comfortable queen mattress with a memory foam pad. The second bed is a twin size typical sofa bed which shares the room with the queen. By all reports it is quite comfortable.

The SpaceThe room is on one end of the original house that is 1,090 square feet, I've added on my room and personal bathroom on the other end of the house. The house is central to the point of only needing a bicycle to get to the park or the downtown/university, which I have two extra loaner cruiser bicycles for you if you'd like to explore on wheels. It's a very intuitive town, and I'm sure you will enjoy it, and if it is your first visit please let me know what you are looking for, and I can help you find great places to eat, drink, or explore! Interaction with GuestsSociable and forward with plenty of space. In two years of doing this some guests like to socialize more, others like to be left alone, I respect whatever you want. The NeighborhoodModerately busy street, near freeway but dual pane windows and lush vegetation mixed with thick curtains absorb a surprising amount of the sound. Two long blocks with little traffic to the beautiful Bidwell park (one of Chico's treasures), makes for a great location to access and lounge by the creek in one of America's largest public swiming pools (locally known as One Mile), fed by a natural body of water, Chico creek. I have two rooms available if needed, besides the main room, I also have an art room that I can put a futon on the floor. Please feel free to ask questions! Getting AroundChico, being on 6 miles, by 6 miles, is easy to get to anything, especially if used to the hustle bustle of city life, this is NorCal after all.

The SpaceMy house is a retreat from the busy-ness of the world, yet close enough to the university and downtown for walking and exploring. Guest AccessGuests have full use of the house, kitchen, bedrooms, and enclosed backyard. I would prefer that my children's belongings stay untouched to protect their space and privacy. Interaction with GuestsI am always available via text or email during your stay. Sometimes I may be staying nearby and drop in to get something, but I will let you know first. The NeighborhoodI love the small neighborhood I live in for its peace and quiet, and friendly neighbors. I spend a ton of time "living" on my front porch, to soak in the feeling of community. I am within 2 blocks of an excellent restaurant and bar with outdoor seating and a bocce ball court. Getting AroundI am very close to downtown, but there are bus stops nearby as well, should you want to traverse farther afield.

Other Things to Note-Very quiet with a private entrance. -We have a small black dog, but she is an indoor dog. -We are working on putting in a path, but at this time access to the guest house does require walking over some grass. -To meet homeowner's insurance requirements, a signed lease agreement is required just for the duration of your stay. If other short term rentals are not requiring this, then they will not be covered by their insurance company.

The Space(Please contact me if you are interested in reserving the cottage for CSU, Chico 2017 graduation.) The Cottage By the Creek isn’t just an alternative to a hotel/motel, but rather a truly wonderful experience when you visit our lovely town of Chico. I decided to rent the cottage as a bed and kitchen property when my mother left her and my father’s home to move to the medical center where my father was suddenly a permanent resident due to multiple strokes. Many of their furnishings were too beautiful to part with, but too large for her new, one-bedroom apartment, so she shipped them to Chico in hopes that I could use them myself, or sell them for her. Well, selling her pieces was not an option in this economy, and there was no room at the main house in which to store them. While looking for cheap storage alternatives for her many things, the long-term renter in the cottage gave notice. Suddenly, there was my solution...furnish the cottage and make it available to those adventurous travelers seeking a different kind of experience. Comfortable and cute, the cottage comes fully furnished: kitchen with Dansk dishes, silverware, cutting knives, Kitchen Aid Mixer, Cuisinart, blender, coffee maker, Keurig style also available, pots, pans, mixing bowls...gas stove; whatever you may need, it should be there. Extra rolls of paper towels and new sponges are provided as are any cleaning supplies you may need. Dish soap and liquid hand soap are also stocked. The wall unit is both air conditioning and heat and can be operated via remote control. There is a ceiling fan in the living room and bedroom plus portable fans for additional air circulation in the summer time. Handmade quilts by my mother grace the bed and sofa. Soaps, towels, razors, hand lotion, puzzle books and pencils are stashed in the bathroom along with extra t.p. and Kleenex. There is also a stacked washer/dryer with laundry soap provided, built-in ironing board (I know, who irons?), iron, spray starch, queen sized bed (additional inflatable bed)… dog treats. I provide snacks, drinks, bread, eggs, and seasonal fruit upon your arrival, and am also happy to pick up specific items you may want. There is also coffee, tea, and coca, mix for hot drinks. The T.V. is set up for local channels, Netflix (basic subscription) and Hulu plus. There is also a DVD and VCR player if you care to bring your own tapes. The apple box for the Netflix/Hulu options has the HDMI cord, which you can plug into your laptop if you want to stream from that. And, yes, that would mean there is WIFI! I know I can’t live without my computer, and I wouldn’t expect you to live without yours either! There is also a pretty nice stereo in the living room with CD, cassette and AM/FM. I didn’t think the CD part worked, but one of the guests said it did… I keep forgetting to test it… so it might. But the FM/cassette is great for sure! There are two bicycles with locks and helmets (I usually use one during nice weather to commute to work with), tennis courts (rather new and only a short 10 minute walk or 3-minute bike ride away), outdoor dining with furnishings, water feature right outside your door for a relaxing atmosphere and a place for your dog to cool his/her feet. Outdoor kitchen (BBQ), mini hot tub, and pool (lounge chairs and towels provided). The area is well-lit at night, and there are tiki torches you can also light if there is little to no breeze. Your large covered deck looks out onto the digging grounds for my dachshunds. My hope is that someday they will actually catch a gopher! The garden is also here and guests may helps themselves to whatever is ripe. Competing for your attention will be Cooper, Mem (short for Agamemnon), and Obi-Wan. They are particularly fond of the treats in the cottage. Feed them, they’re yours! Doesn’t work with Bean – my oldest - he’s all about the ball – but if you throw his ball in the pool on a hot day - that will be treat-like enough! If you are bringing a dog, we will work out a system to have yours out and mine in and visa versa. This works well, and during the week mine are used to their outdoor kennel which is where they stay. They do not need access to the yard during the day. If you leave your dog in the cottage while you are away, please crate your dog. Also, Chico has fleas, so make sure your dog has been treated for fleas before arrival. If you forget, I have extra - please notify me and we will get him/her treated. The heart of Chico is our downtown and it is a mere 5 minutes drive from the Cottage (exactly one-mile). Chico State is also very close and is easier to visit by foot or by bike. The area where I live fronts Big Chico Creek and is a haven for walking, jogging, and biking. With the addition of instant booking the check-in and check-out times are not always flexible. If no one is scheduled to check in the cottage the day you leave, then you can leave as late as you like, however, if someone is coming in, then check out will be 11 a.m., however, you can store your belongings in the main house for as long as you like. No maid service unless prearranged. So there you have it… not a cheap alternative to a motel/hotel, but a comparable one, with way more amenities… and the chance to experience Chico as if you lived here! I work Mon-Fri, so the backyard (pool) is completely yours all day. Thank you for taking the time to read this rather lengthy description… I look forward to meeting you… Guest AccessPool, BBQ, back yard, garden area Interaction with GuestsAs much or as little as they like. The dogs especially enjoy our cottage people once introduced by me! The NeighborhoodBidwell Ave borders Big Chico Creek and has huge trees all along the way. It's a quiet area, yet situated just behind Chico State and is exactly one mile to town. Other Things to NoteThere is a large Oak tree dead center in the driveway. There is plenty of room on each side to come and go, but you do need to be careful.
