Charles Crocker was one of the famed "Big Four" founders of the Central Pacific Transcontinental Railroad in the 1860s. Crocker purchased about 600 acres of an old Spanish land grant in 1873 as a hunting retreat that he often visited with his cronies. The current lodge was built in 1907 with redwood framing and siding as a family style retreat. It has been updated but retains its original rustic charm.

The SpaceA separate cottage , The Little House is a large studio (450 sq ft) with a kitchen, bathroom, queen bed and a sitting/dining area with a flat screen TV set up for movies and Apple TV (no cable). The cottage is close to our house but mutual privacy is important to us so you should feel completely on your own. Of course we have wireless Internet. A bottle of wine, coffee and light snacks await. The Little House is right for a couple, two friends (or one person) who love to read, dine, sit on the deck, rock in the hammock, watch movies and drink wine. Ideal for the traveler serious about wine tasting, dining and relaxing (or for the more active -- biking and hiking). We are on a hill, just outside of town. Cloverdale is a modest town 5 minutes from the Alexander Valley, 10 from Geyserville, 10 from Dry Creek , about 18-20 minutes to Healdsburg and the Russian River Valley and 30 to the Anderson Valley, Our Little House is fully equipped, comfortable and everything you might want – but homey and slightly eccentric. No granite counter tops here. We aren't the Four Seasons or the Ritz, but we spent many years of cozy weekends in The Little House and hope you will too. The kitchen has a 2 burner stove, microwave, toaster, blender, roaster oven, pots and pans and utensils. It isn't fancy but very serene. It is a bit removed from it all, but walking distance to town (down a fairly steep hill) and a short drive to what we consider the best of wine country. Although you will have a private deck, feel free to enjoy our huge deck under a 150 year old oak tree overlooking the town of Cloverdale and the Alexander Valley. Use the barbecues. The hot tub is new, has awesome jets and always hot. It is on our larger deck (not your private one) but only about 20 steps from the Little House. Cloverdale is the northernmost town in Sonoma County and one of the few that retains its “pre-wine” roots. Definitely not the chic of Healdsburg but authentically Sonoma County, friendly and usually quiet. The restaurants are varied and traditional but fun. Suggestions are in the Little House. Healdsburg shops and restaurants are an 18 minute drive by freeway or 20-30 through the Alexander Valley vineyards. Ask us about our favorite restaurants, bars and shops in Healdsburg and wineries in all the Valleys. Geyserville, with Diavolo (a great modern Italian restaurant) and Catellis (more traditional but Todd and Susan's go-to spot for dinners in the bar) and half a dozen tasting rooms is a 10 minute drive and more fun than a day in Napa. Both have great outdoor patios in the back. The Russian River is five minutes for walking and swimming and Lake Sonoma (boating) is 15 minutes. Or, after tasting as much wine as you can handle, take a day to drive through the Redwoods to the spectacular Sonoma coast (1 hour). We leave tasting maps, a list of our favorite restaurants, wineries and other spots. Dogs are welcome in the fenced yard and house, as are smokers if you promise to smoke outside. Guest AccessOff street parking, 2 decks, laundry room Interaction with GuestsWhen we are there, you are welcome to join us on the big deck (you also have your own). Often we are not there, though and you have the run of the decks and yard. Feel free to ask for recommendations of any kind. But, we assume you want your privacy and honor that. The NeighborhoodWe are just outside the town of Cloverdale, in a semi-rural location. Walking distance to town (down a hill). A car is necessary, although taxi service is available. While not in the vineyards, convenient to dozens of wineries and away from the craziness Getting AroundYou can rent bikes in Healdsburg or Cloverdale. They will have suggestions for rides through the vineyards or over the hills You can find good hiking (email hidden) Other Things to NoteNew hot tub just arrived!

The SpaceRustic redwood ranch styled home located on top of a ridge set just below Redwood Mountain overlooking Alexander Valley, surrounding rolling hills, ridges and native trees. The house has three bedrooms one with a king sized bed, two with queens. Two full bathrooms. The interior walls are lined with knotty pine paneling giving the house a cozy cabin feel. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking up some great wine country meals. There is a window seat alcove for reading, looking out at the view and staying warm by the wood stove. The living room also has a fireplace and large redwood deck out the front door where you might see a flock of wild turkeys or family of deer walking by. The home is situated on 50 acres up a dirt road with no other surrounding homes. There is hiking and exploring that can be enjoyed without leaving the property. For summer time there is a small in-ground pool. The quaint town of Cloverdale is a 15 minute drive away where there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, a movie theater and seasonal farmers markets. There is also the world renowned town of Healdsburg just 20 minutes south. If you like to taste wine there are hundreds to choose from nearby in Alexander Valley, Dry Creek Valley, Russian River Valley or Anderson Valley. Other Things to NoteWe recommend all wheel or four wheel drive to come up dirt road to the house. The house is heated by two wood stoves, one in kitchen, one in living room. The SpaceGet away from the stress and hassle of the City. Enjoy great views of Alexander Valley wine country while relaxing under a down comforter in bed, soaking in the claw foot tub, or sipping a glass of wine from the deck. The cabin is 5 minutes from Cloverdale, 10 minutes from Geyserville, 15 minutes from Healdsburg. In summer, guests can enjoy our 25 yard infinity pool with views of the Alexander Valley. The pool is adjacent to the main house and is not for exclusive use of the cabin guests. Come and enjoy relaxed, high quality wineries in Anderson Valley, Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley. We can hook you up with wineries and tasting rooms run by good friends who can provide you with a unique experience including Locals, Meeker, Mercury, and Trione. If you want to hike or run, there are great trails along the Russian River or around Lake Sonoma. The bike riding is legendary through Dry Creek Valley or up Sulphur Creek for the adventurous. Eating in Cloverdale is casual and fun at La Hacienda, Ruth McGowan's Brew Pub (excellent artisan beers), the Hamburger Ranch and Pick's (a class drive in with the best bacon cheeseburger in the county), and the Railroad Station (gastropub). Geyserville offers Diavola, with better pizza and Roman-style italian food than Delfina, without the hype and Catelli's -- family style Italian with a celebrity chef connection to Lady Gaga. And Healdsburg is a foodie paradise. Please note: This cabin is perfect for two adults. We do not allow pets. It is not a child-proof, child-friendly space so we do not allow children as guests. Larger groups? Ask about our additional capacity including a vintage airstream trailer and more.

The SpaceHave you dreamed of ranch living? Of really getting away from it all? Then look no further than the beautiful and celebrated Rockpile Ranch. With a history full of Jesse James outlaws, the Pony Express, and Bonanza TV series, Rockpile Ranch is the perfect escape from reality. With over 800 acres for you to enjoy, wake up among the oldest vines in the region and watch for hawks and deer across sweeping vistas with the provided binoculars. During the day, take a walk to the natural spring and listen to the waterfall or angle for small fish off the dock in the pond. If you’re a little more adventurous, take one of our mapped hikes to the ancient petroglyphs dotted around the property. Not feeling like moving? No problem, sit on the front porch with a book, the back deck with a glass of wine or nap in the shade on the lawn. Rockpile Ranch is the perfect location for family vacations, birthday trips or getaways with friends; we can host them all! Between the main Farmhouse and the Throop House, originally a Pony Express Station, we have 6 bedrooms plus a loft, with an ability to sleep 14 comfortably and 16 with a squeeze in the loft. Being completely off the grid, all of the power comes from a solar array on the iconic barn. Charge your camera (you’ll need it!) by the power of the sun! As you ascend from the floor of Dry Creek Valley, you wind through forests of madrone, oak, pine, and manzanita. Driving along the ridge allows for expansive vistas across dramatic hills and valleys. Approaching the ranch, you enter another forest which opens to the first vineyards of Rockpile Ranch. Through the deer fence you descend through the trees where it opens to lush gardens, sprawling lawns, ordered vineyards and a charming yellow farmhouse with a lovely front porch set amongst mature flowering trees. The Farmhouse has 3 queen bedroom upstairs and 4th bedroom with 2 twin beds. 2 full bathrooms, one with a tub and one with a shower, complete the upstairs. Downstairs, the large eat-in kitchen invites you to slow down, enjoy the view and take it all in. Enjoy a cup of coffee in the built in breakfast nook, or grab a bite to eat at the island. Although off the grid, enjoy the many comforts of home, including a gas Wolf range, dishwasher, microwave oven, propane fridge, Keurig coffee maker, a selection of K-cups and teabags, basic cooking ingredients (or have it fully stocked in advance), plus all the dishes, cookware, and glassware you could need. The living room is comfortably furnished with a wood stove. Sit by the fire and play cards or board games or enjoy a glass of wine at the 8 person dining table. If building a fire isn’t your thing, there is also central heating available. The adjoining den/media room, which overlooks the multilevel deck and garden, has a flat screen TV and DirecTV as well as the internet router. Over the hill and around the barn is the Throop House, a house you can add on to your rental, was at one time a stop on the Pony Express. Now the Throop House is a comfortable 2 bedroom house with a loft for kids or close friends. The cozy open plan living room features a bright red wood stove, plus a TV and DirecTV. The kitchen is fully stocked with the exception of a stove. If you are looking to took the Farmhouse has a full kitchen. Enjoy the sun rising over the vines from the gorgeous deck. The fun doesn’t stop at sunset! Besides being fully stocked with cards and family board games, we also host “cowboy cookout” dinners, weather permitting and subject to availability. Watch the stars with no light interference through the telescope from the deck. BBQ up some amazing Sonoma County steaks or chicken on the new gas grill. No need to stress about what to bring as we are as full service or self-catering as you need. Give us a list and we can stock your fridge for you. If you prefer to do it yourself, we provide all the bedding, linens and towels, shampoo, conditioner, soap, etc. Ask us for particulars and if we don’t currently have it, we can provide it. *** Please note, we do not allow for weddings or events at the ranch, as it is extremely remote and all of the power is provided by a solar source. *** The NeighborhoodThis property is millions of miles away from 'real life' Feel the history of Old California, Wild West and Jesse James, through to the cast of Bonanza and finally into the modern days of farming and vineyards. Getting AroundThe ranch is located about an hour away from any town and about 45 minutes to the nearest winery. To access the property, you will go through 2 locked gates, as well as deer gate. Other Things to NoteLive completely off the grid without sacrificing any modern conveniences! We are completely powered by solar power, just like the vineyards surrounding the property!

Have you dreamed of ranch living? * Please note, the property is a functioning vineyard and staff members may be seen on the ranch at various points during your stay, including the on-site caretaker. ** Also, we do not allow for weddings or events at the ranch, as it is extremely remote and all of the power is provided by a solar source.

TRULY UNIQUE, FIRST TIME AVAILABLE IN 100 YEARS! Beautiful 19-acre riverfront retreat at the confluence of the Russian River and Big Creek in the Sonoma Wine Country of northern California. Six private beaches offer fantastic world-class river swimming in clear, relatively warm comfortable water (about 9-degrees warmer than most California streams) with a reasonably mild current, all in a wonderful natural setting teeming with wild life - - the trout fingerlings will nibble at your toes! Downstream towns like Healdsburg and Guerneville, while charming, offer less ideal river swimming conditions because they are often located in cooler redwood forests. The comfortable solidly built 8-year-old 3-bedroom (all with walk-in closets) 2 ½ bath house (sleeps 6 + 2 sleeper couch = 8) includes a 7-person hot tub/spa, TV, DVR, Wi-Fi, propane BBQ, decks, fire pit, 40-tree fruit orchard and separate Horse Barn game room/beach clean-up station with pool table, darts, horseshoes and badminton plus outdoor shower (no swimming pool or toilet). The peninsula property is located near Cloverdale, only 15 minutes from enchanting Victorian Healdsburg and surrounded by 40 notable Alexander Valley vineyards including Rodney Strong, Francis Ford Coppola, Fritz and Geyser Peak. Just 80 easy freeway miles north of San Francisco. Enjoy a perfect summer day with wine-tasting in the morning, beaches in the afternoon and fine dining and hot tub under the stars at night. In summertime, it’s “Hawaii north” without the humidity! In winter it’s natural and wild. A great road trip includes small river towns nestled in redwood groves like Monte Rio and Forestville, then on to the Pacific where the misty rock pillars of Jenner tower majestically in the sea. Don’t miss old Fort Ross, the early 19th century Russian empire fur trading post, and magical Mendocino, the Victorian gem atop the cliffs overlooking the ocean. Sorry no pets; non-smokers only. Have a great trip! SUGGESTION: Stay all day at Two Rivers as a “destination” resort: Excellent river swimming at 6 beaches; downriver floating; hot tub; fishing (license required) and cray-fishing (no license required – Owner will lend Guest a crawdad trap upon request); game room with pool table, darts, badminton, etc.; camp fire pit; property exploration over 19 acres; riverside lounging; BBQ; star-gazing under reknown summer night skies; and birding -- best areas are at the confluence of 2 streams at Two Rivers Beach and also the woodpecker colony at entrance on Big Creek. (WARNING: Russian River is part of nature - - always be careful because people have drowned.) *the caretaker's cabin is next to the house, once in a while the caretakers are at the property- you will not be bothered and they don't use the facilities. Feel free to ask them for anything! Holiday weekends are 3 night minimum*

Imagine 50 secluded acres overlooking the northern Alexander Valley with 360 degree views of surrounding mountains, fir forests and native flora and fauna. Behind a locked pipe gate, up a dirt road sits a sweet redwood ranch style house with a large porch, covered area for outdoor dining, bon-fire pit, and many campsite like spots around the property. Originally a sheep ranch, the property has many outbuildings, seasonal creeks, and dirt roads for on-site hiking. While you’re stretching your legs, stop and have a drink from the spring then come back and take a dip in the solar heated pool. The kitchen is well equipped for anyone who enjoys cooking. Lots of interesting serving platters, linens, wine glasses, large plates and dishes. Perfect for wine country entertaining. Eat in the kitchen or outside at the long farm table in the covered area. The cabin-like living room with knotty pine walls, wood burning fireplace, comfortable furnishings is a great place to relax. There are three bedrooms with two with queen beds, one with king. Each room with it’s own unique style. Two full bathrooms and a laundry/mud room. The quaint town of Cloverdale is a 10 minute drive away. There are plenty of restaurants, cafes, a movie theater, a farmers market in the summer months, and “Friday Night Live” on the square. Russian River swimming holes within 3 miles. Healdsburg is just 20 minutes south, Hopland 20 minutes north, and Booneville in Anderson Valley is 35 minutes west. There are lots of wineries in the area for tasting and picking up a bottle to enjoy back at the house. In other words, this is a great place to go if you want to get away from everything and just be. Note: We require all wheel or 4 wheel drive to drive up the 1/3 mile dirt road. The house is heated by two wood burning fireplaces during the cold season. We supply wood, kindling, etc. No air conditioning, ceiling fans in each bedroom. No dishwasher.
