The SpaceAmazing zen-like abode. Separate, back guesthouse on property with another house. Has open space on 2 floors, over 1400 square feet, sleeping loft and second floor with comfy queen sized bed, futons available for more guests. Full kitchen and bathroom, back yard patio for open-air dining. Guest AccessComplete access to all amenities of home, including wifi, cable TV, great book collection, Xbox for kids. Interaction with GuestsI interact with guests as much as they want. Respect your privacy or help you plan your L.A. experience. I am an international traveler, documentary filmmaker, and love to meet people from all over the world. At present I am living between the Bay Area and L.A. and if I am not here, I have friends who help me manage the place. You will be well taken care of! The NeighborhoodCulver City used to be the backlot for Hollywood cinema of old: Westerns, Charlie Chaplin, MGM Studios. Today its a leafy, quiet, residential enclave of family-friendly homes, well-kept yards, safe, clean, walk-streets. Families, artists, film industry types live here, there's a great park a few blocks away and easy, walking distance (8 minutes) to downtown Culver City where you will find all manner of wonderful restaurants, shops, Sony Studios, Trader Joes, coffee shops and a multiplex cinema. My personal favorite is Jackson Market, a family-owned french-country style bistro that all the locals try to keep a secret! Other Culver City gems: great yoga, theater in the park (Summer) a public swimming pool where former Olympic swimmers train, outdoor concert series, and a wonderful farmer's market every Tues. afternoon/night (granola and fig-flavored balsamic vinegar are my standards here). Getting AroundCulver City also has a METRO station, (10 min. walk from my place) which is the furthest West they have built to date. Easy access to all over the city and downtown, takes you directly to the center of downtown Los Angeles, if you are on your way to LA Live, Staples Center or the Walt Disney Concert Hall, or restaurants downtown. We are also very close to the 10 and 405 Freeways, and the airport. Ample, free parking on street and in my driveway! There is also a great bike/jogging path to the beach, the Ballona Creek bike path (5 miles) at the end of my block! 10 minute drive to Venice Beach, 20 minutes from Hollywood 10 minutes from Beverly Hills 20 minutes to Santa Monica Other Things to NoteYou will love Culver City! I am a great host, eclectic, world savvy, politically involved, an active single Mom who works in the film industry with a fantastic teen-age son, who is away at college most of the year.

The SpaceThe uniqueness of my cottage is the rustic feeling of a bungalow. It's not shiny and modern, but very easy to relax in. There are dishes and pots for lite cooking and tableware. There is a small table outside to enjoy a breakfast coffee (petite dejeuner). There is plenty of windows for fresh air and sunlight but no air conditioning. No Smoking ever, please. Guest AccessThere is shampoo, towels, dinnerware, glassware and bed linens all provided. All furnished for relaxing and a queen bed. There is ample parking off street with visitor passes provided. Interaction with GuestsUsually a first meet and greet and then texts or calls are fine. The NeighborhoodThis space is a landmark property from "I Love Lucy" sitcom, writer's bungalows back in the 50's. The property was originally built during the early 30's near the Culver City landmark "Tara Place" from "Gone with the Wind." This is the Heart of Screenland. Very quiet and safe, yet active community to get to and fro. Getting AroundThere is the new CC Metro station less than a 10 min walk, to take you east to downtown LA or west to Santa Monica. I recommend Uber taxis for Beverly Hills 2.3 miles north. Lots to see on foot in the local community. Other Things to NoteEvery Tuesday in downtown there is a Farmer's Market (5 min walk) from 2-7PM until November.

Ecological oasis It's no mirage – from the solar power to the meditative teahouse built entirely of recycled materials, this palatial home is a model of sustainability. Inspired by the ancient desert cultures of Morocco, your host has completely transformed a forgotten mid-century home into a modern paradise of ecological living, complete with an organic vegetable garden and chicken coop. You'll find a thriving gastropub culture, and art scene, in Culver City, and a taste of nature in Baldwin Hills Scenic Overlook – a popular route for an evening run. Master of mirage A nomadic lifestyle suits your host, a filmmaker whose travels and passion for sustainable living inspire his films. His home showcases his philosophy – that ecological design can also be artistic, and playful. Under the orange blossom In Tompkins Way, as in Morocco, life centres around the courtyard. This particular courtyard is decorated in azure and mustard yellow, with leafy palms and a fabric-draped ceiling. The kitchen, dining room and living room are floored with cool slate tiles, and swathed with sandy beiges and bright cushions, and an Islamic-inspired star mosaic adorns the fireplace. You'll find hints of Morocco throughout the home, from the bathrooms’ stonework to the intricate headboards and décor in the bedrooms. Whether you're taking a dip in the glimmering turquoise pool, meditating in the Balinese-style temple or relaxing in the spa-like master bath, you can rest easy – all this opulence comes with a smaller than usual carbon footprint. Additional amenities include: piano, iron & ironing board, hob, toiletries, cafetiere, music player, hairdryer, onefinestay iphone, barbeque. Cancellation Policy No-quibble cool-off period. The SpaceWe make an attempt to create a habitat of happiness. It’s a place to relax and reflect surrounded by the tranquility of the water garden. Detailed wood and stone workings. The house was built with environmental friendliness in mind. Heating is by hydronic heating system under hard-wood (hickory) floor throughout the house. Insulation by shredded blue jean. Whole house water filter. Power mostly by solar energy. Paint and stain are eco-friendly. No particle boards were used. The SpaceThis detached one-room studio guest house has a separate entrance through the backyard of the main house, a 1920s Spanish Bungalow. Your own private space - come and go as you please! The studio is approximately 250 sq. ft. (about the size of a hotel room), and has been thoughtfully finished with modern, comfortable furnishings and unique, DIY touches. Use of the courtyard for lounging and eating makes it feel much bigger - and the Cali weather makes indoor/outdoor living easy... We hope you like it as much as we do! Need a home away from home for a summer internship? Headed to LA for pilot season? Hit us up! We love having longer-term guests that stay for a few weeks or a few months! Shared laundry available on site for guests staying longer than 10 days. Hit the hay: The space is well-suited for a single traveler or a couple, with a comfy queen bed and memory foam mattress topper. The futon sofa folds out to about the size of a twin bed, and could accommodate a small child traveling with parents... 2 adults maximum. Take in the greenery: French doors open into the courtyard, where you’ll find a fruitful orange tree, outdoor dining area, as well as a comfortable lounge space with a fire pit. Enjoy your coffee or a glass of a wine, and relax! Rustle up some grub: The kitchenette comes complete with a mini fridge, microwave, Keurig coffee maker, toaster, and electric two-burner stovetop. Dishes, teas and coffee, kitchen utensils, and silverware provided. Totally suitable for small, quick meals, but fair warning - you’re not going to be making anything gourmet in here, as we don’t have a kitchen sink. We ask that ALL food remnants be disposed of in the trash, pretty pleeeeaaassse :) For the sake of our pipes. Guest AccessGuests have private, unlimited use of the studio itself, and access to the back yard, which is shared with me and my sister. We live in the main house and are very excited to meet you! Interaction with GuestsI will be there to greet you upon check-in if I’m not working. I am more than happy to make restaurant and activity recommendations, and answer any questions! We enjoy meeting new people, but also respect your privacy - happy to support you if you need anything, and stay out of your hair if you don't. We just ask that you respect our lovely neighbors, and they will respect you. The NeighborhoodThe studio is located in a residential area full of young couples, families, singles, and long-time residents - mixed and very lively. You are only a 2 BLOCK WALK to downtown Culver City, one of the most popular areas in LA, full of wine bars, gastropubs, restaurants, movies, and live theatres. Culver City is home to Sony, Culver Studios, and the historic Culver Hotel. It’s a truly breathtaking building, and their happy hour and brunch on the patio are among of my favorite outings. Some others include margaritas and taquitos and Kaye 'N Dave's, then gelato from Ugo, a cute Italian spot with a killer outdoor dining space. For the health conscious, there are several vegan, vegetarian, and organic restaurants, a regular Tuesday Farmers' market full of local fare and produce, as well as an amazing yoga studio. I cannot say enough about this area - I have too many recommendations to list here! Check out the "Guidebook" for more :) Getting AroundVia Car: As it is LA, renting a car is recommended (but not necessary). You are 2 blocks from the 10 freeway, about a mile to the 405, and 15 minutes from LAX. Culver City is truly central - easy to get everywhere. 10-15 minutes to the iconic Venice Beach and trendy Abbott Kinney neighborhoods 10-15 minutes to Santa Monica 10 minutes to Beverly Hills 20-25 minutes to West Hollywood and Downtown 30 minutes to Hollywood. (All depending on the time of day of course.) Via Public Transportation: The Culver City Metro stop is nearby and will take you downtown. There is also a bus stop at the end of the street that will take you west to Venice. I highly recommend using peer-to-peer ride services like Uber and Lyft - affordable and convenient. Parking: Parking is street parking, which is free and unrestricted except for street cleaning two hours per week (just check the signs). I can coordinate a tandem space for arrival and departure nights so that you can park tandem with us in our driveway those evenings when you need to load and unload bags - as long as you're cool with moving cars should one of us need to leave! Please just let me know ahead of time so I can plan for it. For the rest of your stay, just find a place to park on the street, which is pretty easy during the day, but can be tougher at night as you're in a major city only a couple of blocks from a trendy strip of restaurants. It's a safe area, and guests who don't mind a little walk in nice weather won't have an issue! Other Things to Note* Pretty please read ALL the details in the listing, House Rules, and your reservation confirmation should you decide to book with us. They will outline further what you can expect from our home and what we expect from our guests! I've tried to put as much info as possible on the site for your convenience. * I try to accommodate early check-ins and late check-outs whenever possible! Just let me know ahead of time and we can try to work something out :) Normal check-in is 4pm, check-out at 11am. If you don't give me at least 48 hrs. notice, it's harder for me to accommodate. * We have two dogs who live in the main house with us - one very small (8 lbs.) and one medium sized (25 lbs.) Guests who are comfortable with dogs are welcome! If you're wary of canine companions, we know there's another great listing out there for you. * Also, in keeping with our aim to give you a "getaway," there is no television or cable. However, if you miss it, you can always watch Netflix, Hulu Plus, etc. on the device of your choice.

The SpaceYou have the studio to yourself, keys and all... Studio is for 1 person, 2 people can stay, but no back to back showers, someone will have to wait 10 minutes. A good space to get drop your bags and tour the city. Studio is located on a busy Blvd. (can be noisey or quiet). Clean, wifi, A/C, parking, gated entry, queen size bed, microwave, mini refrigerator, Amazon/Netflix only. Water shortage keeps showers up to 7 minutes of hot water. No pets, no children under 16, and no smoking (owner is firm on this). Venice Blvd is now a popular street in LA. A fair amount of traffic can disturb a light sleeper. It varies as sometimes it's extremely quiet. If the hum of the mini refrigerator keeps you awake this might not be the place for you. Clean, wifi, A/C, parking, queen size adj. bed, microwave, mini refrigerator. Located in a business/residential district with plenty of places to eat. Water shortage in LA keeps showers up to 7 minutes of hot water. No pets, no children under 16, no smoking Property at one time was a small hotel, then converted into small business offices and now will be eventually converted into lofts/studios as it's the new trend in Los Angeles. A lot of commercial space is being converted into lofts and studios, especially downtown. Only 5 tenants on this side of the property and you will probably not cross paths. With this studio you get a centralized location with residential and city vibe. You can relax and conduct business from this space. Small desk w/chair, wifi (never tried with games... movies ok), 32" wide screen TV w/Amazon Fire stick (Netflix and Amazon movies....others too). The shower is very hot 5-7 minutes, cools, then reheats in about 10 minutes, (water is expensive here), no frills just a good spot to eat, sleep, maybe get some work done. Or go site seeing, concert, surfing or whatever. Not really a spot for romance.....more for business types or quick visits from another city or (URL HIDDEN) the city for a meeting...or just to get some good sleep... The bed is packed in plastic when not rented. No one sleeps in this bed when not used. The bed is a comfort foam adjustable bed that comes with pillow and mattress protectors in addition to the sheets and pillow cases. Extra sheets are provided, however since this is not a hotel you must change it yourself ha! Check in: 12 noon or later Check out: 11am (sometimes later if there's isn't a guest booked) You can check in anytime (24 hours) as there is a door lock if you can't be personally greeted, however that depends also if someone is exiting or arriving. The guest who books first will get priority. If the calendar is clear you got priority. If you book on the same day as someone arriving or exiting let me know so that we can coordinate schedules. There hasn't been any over lapping issues thus far. Check out: 11am Sometimes you can check out as late as 5pm, but if a guest is arriving the day you depart the earliest check out is 11am. This is not the Hilton so please if you are a high maintenance person this studio may not appeal to you (if you need all the things you are used to in a hotel)..... Thanks for reading this detailed description! Guest AccessYou got studio to yourself. Your parking space is almost at the front door. 24 hour gated access, you will have key. Security camera on premises. Interaction with GuestsHost is accessible if you have questions during your stay. The NeighborhoodGood neighborhood. You can jog or walk at night. Getting AroundMTA train is down the street and Metro Bus is out front. Rental car in area too.
