The NeighborhoodThis is the city with no stop lights, no traffic meters, no smog, and no worries. The city of Dunsmuir never fails to take you back to a simpler time. Dunsmuir was founded around a small railroad. This railroad is deeply embedded into the fabric and history of the town and its people. The Railway is still fully functioning today and one of the main thorough fares of town looks down upon it with its rich, green, forestry abounding and the river flanking it to the east side. It makes for a wonderful afternoon stroll or perhaps you might like to have a sip of coffee at the local Brown Trout Cafe as you watch the trains go by. The Dunsmuir City Pool is a favorite of visitors and locals alike. The pool has a slide and a diving board, with a classic little frostie next-door. The city park lies just a bit down the road. There is nothing like a dip in the Dunsmuir Pool after a stroll in the park on a warm day in Dunsmuir. Dunsmuir has the beautiful Sacramento River flowing right in the heart of the town. There is a nice two block stroll from the cottage to riverside access. The river is ice cold, just ask my kids. They love to float down the river every summer despite the near snow like temperature of the water. The river is great for fishing and we almost always catch our limit every time we go. The river is also always a relaxing place to throw down a blanket, pack a picnic, pick blackberries if your visit is in August or September and watch the beauty of nature slowly run on by. Time really does slow down in Dunsmuir. Remember, you are free to use any items in the cottage such as picnic baskets, thermoses, ice chests or fishing poles as long as they are cared for and returned. You can purchase a yearlong fishing license at our local Dunsmuir Hardware or a day pass for only $15.00. When you stay at our cottage I have included directions to our secret fishing holes and a "Must Do" "Must See" and "Must Eat At" guide while in the area www(dot)dunsmui(URL HIDDEN) Getting AroundNo public transit in Dunsmuir, also no taxi services. It is a small town and the cabin is 3-5 minute walking distance to downtown and Sacramento River. Other Things to NoteThere is a small utility cabin on the property which vacationers have access to upon signing of the release of liability paperwork. This cabin houses the kayaks, bikes, extra patio furniture, and all other recreational equipment.

The SpaceThe Fish & Ski Haus has almost four bedrooms (the 4th is really the top of the landing from downstairs, but check out the pictures and video to see that it works), 2 baths, a laundry room and a lovely kitchen that opens onto the patio with fire pit and BBQ. It is priced for up to a total of 6 guests of any age (except infants). We'll consider a few more, but do not want large, nor rowdy parties. We offer multiple night discounts for 3 or more nights. We are dog-friendly with friendly dogs. There is a $15 charge per dog, per stay. Please request a quote. Alpine Ski & Fish Haus in Dunsmuir is just minutes off I-5 and perfectly located for skiers, fishers, hikers and travelers. We may offer late check-outs (up to 5 PM; some restrictions apply) as well as very low rates for travelers just passing through (one-night stays with limited use of kitchen). Spend the night, the weekend, or the week! Our location is ideal: Walk to the upper Sacramento River in 5-10 minutes! We love the train that runs through town, and are far enough away from the tracks that it doesn't sound as though it's in the Haus. I-5 is far enough away to avoid the constant hum of traffic. There are wonderful amenities throughout, including a laundry room with washer & dryer (soap and dryer towels provided). There is a very well set up kitchen with Keurig coffee maker (we have the world's best water with zero chemicals. How cool is that?), regular coffee maker, Cuisinart, toaster, blender, juicer, crystal, china and more. It has lovely antiques and furnishings, with especially comfortable beds. The Haus works well for folks who like to settle in and walk to excellent restaurants, pubs & shops. Cafe' Maddalena (fabulous), Dogwood Diner and Dunsmuir Brewery Works & Restaurant are all within a few mostly-flat blocks of our place. (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) them to see they are highly regarded. Morning sun streams into the living room. The private back patio has afternoon shade. Whether you ski or hike Shasta, climb Castle Crags, fish the upper Sacramento River and McCloud area, or just hang out and read, you'll enjoy the Haus as your home base. Guest AccessAll of Dunsmuir is close at hand, including fishing & swimming spots on the Upper Sacramento River, Hedge Creek and Mossbrae Falls, the brew pub, great restaurants, the botanical gardens and much more are all within a few minute's drive from the haus. Most of it is in easy walking distance! Interaction with GuestsWe live on the Trinity River in Trinity County, so guests usually don't see us unless they come our way later. All Haus guests receive a $50 discount off a Trinity River cabin stay down the line, so it can happen that we meet. Our housekeeper lives nearby and is right there if guests need anything. The NeighborhoodDunsmuir is a sweet little railroad town filled with history and gorgeous sights. Our neighbors are easy going and friendly; in fact, guests often comment about how strangers waved to them while walking in Dunsmuir. Getting AroundAlthough guests need a car to hit the hot spots such as Castle Crags and Mt. Shasta for hiking and climbing, there is public transit between Shasta City, the mountain and Dunsmuir, and guests can arrive by train! Amtrak comes through town and it's a 15 minute walk to the haus. Other Things to NoteWe have had trouble with guests streaming so much that they depleted our very expensive package. We ask guests to stream no more than a couple of shows a day so that they and future guests have access to the internet. The kitchen really is especially nicely outfitted. Most guests who brought their essentials reported they didn't need to.

Guest AccessThree bedrooms, 2 baths, large open living and kitchen space, and a deck. All private space and entry is by stairs. There is so much to do and see! We have printed material and maps and local attraction magazines...plus what we know and have experienced and are happy to share. The town is (URL HIDDEN) traffic lights, and you can see the stars. Ten miles away is Mt. Shasta City with more amenities and activities. We are closest to the Ski Park and it is now OPEN! The NeighborhoodOur town has no traffic lights. So quiet and surrounded by the beauty of lakes, streams, rivers, trails, mountains. All sports needing outdoor surroundings are great here! The air is clean and smells of pine. Stars are SO bright. There is a nice park with play grounds. The best part are the friendly people. Getting AroundEvery thing in the town is all within walking distance. We, and the nearby towns are all served by clean, new buses. We have no parking meters and ample parking in town. There are several eating places and many more in surrounding towns. Other Things to NoteThis is a special place. We are a 19th century village in a small valley that looks lost in time. If you need peace and quiet in beautiful surroundings, this is the place for you. All outdoor sports, summer or winter, are available.. There are only 5 large wooden buildings in McCloud and we have the most beautiful of them all. Down stairs are thousands of feet of maple floored ballroom. The 18 foot ceilings and the supporting pillars and beams are hand stenciled with Art Deco designs, There are not many such architectural gem surviving anywhere. It is also a museum of all things to do with making music and dancing from 1906 through the present. Interesting artifacts!

Dunsmuir is a beautiful little town on the Sacramento River. With wonderful fishing spots, beautiful hiking and walking trails, excellent and well-known restaurants, and lovely scenery, it is perfect for an overnight or even several day stay. Our downtown has no traffic lights, no parking meters, and is a nationally designated historic district, carefully preserved. We are fortunate to have a train depot where Amtrak picks up and delivers passengers. North Dunsmuir has a beautiful Botanical Gardens City Park on the River, just lovely for a picnic. Next to the city park is our ballpark where the famous Babe Ruth once played. And south of the ballpark is our Olympic size pool, popular in the summer and open to everyone. Two famous waterfalls are nearby; Hedge Creek Falls and Mossbrae Falls. I highly recommend a hike in the Castle Crags State Park if you like nature, it's only minutes to the South. I'm up and about the house by 8am. I keep in stock a variety of organic teas and even coffee if you'd like that. The NeighborhoodI love the sparkling spring water from tap here, the gorgeous mountains, the fresh air and abundant trees and wildlife. Lush mature landscaping in my little neighborhood; roses, cherries, blackberries, pears, apples, peaches and grapes in season, lots of birds, cats and sometimes deer. Just a note that we are a block from the freeway and a few more from the Amtrack, so if you are a very light sleeper I provide earplugs if you wish. I don't need them, personally, even with the windows open. Getting AroundBus runs regularly weekdays and there's also an Amtrak stop here in town. Walking is nice for getting around town. Siskiyou and Shasta County residents travel to make their way to Dunsmuir Brew works, Cafe Madalena and Sengthongs restaurants, all of which are walking distance from the Castle House! Getting AroundWe are in the mountains so public transportation is not a big thing here, and though there are local buses, you will want to have a vehicle so that you can explore the beautiful lakes, hiking and biking trails and a multitude of activities and sites which abound in our area. The SpaceThis home was purchased between two families. One in the bay area and one in Oregon. Best friends need a place to meet halfway and we were getting too weary to camp. Winter is a great time to enjoy downhill and cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. (URL HIDDEN) for current conditions. Walking downtown, along the river and through the neighborhood are our favorite things about our house and space in Dunsmuir. Year round we have enjoyed the town, the hiking and have I mentioned the restaurants? We are a non-smoking home and do not allow pets. We hope you make yourselves at home and relax but that you are house proud and take care of our things. We've tried to furnish the home with comfortable and nice furniture, linens, dishes, etc. Guest AccessThe entire house is for you to use, but I would ask that you only use the beds you need and when you check out, leave the beds unmade. Either myself or Michelle will come after you leave and get ready for our next guests. Interaction with GuestsThe house is all yours and I am not onsite. I am available by phone for any questions. Don't hesitate to call or text: (phone number hidden) The NeighborhoodThe house is in a quiet neighborhood just about 6 blocks from downtown. It's a nice walk and you'll find restaurants, shops, groceries, and often music during the summer months. The segment of the Sacramento River that flows and snakes through Dunsmuir is one of the prettiest you'll see. You can even fish at several spots right in town. Getting AroundThe house is located right off of I-5, about half way between San Francisco and Seattle. If you aren't driving, you can take Amtrak! Dunsmuir is one of the stops and it's less than a mile from the house. Other Things to NoteYou can see Mt Shasta from a few north facing windows. One of the best views is from the medicine cabinet reflection in the upstairs bathroom! Mt Shasta City is a 'cute' town, 10 minutes north. Not as cute as Dunsmuir and the restaurants aren't as good, but worth a visit. Be sure and visit the Botanical Gardens just north of town and the community pool is a great way to cool off. There are lakes within a 30 minute drive for boating, hiking and swimming. Also worth a visit are McCloud, east on 89 and McCloud Falls is a favorite and can't miss hike. Summer 2016, I have added a gas grill, patio furniture and a hammock.
