The SpaceThe Captain’s Cabin -- Welcome This is the upper unit of a two unit house. For larger groups we recommend renting both units This unit has a full kitchen, dinning room, large living room with a wood burning fireplace (with a fold-out full size air mattress), two bedrooms (one queen size bed and two singles), and two full bathrooms. Please note the two single beds are located in a room referred to as the sleeping porch (our personal favorite room of the house) directly off of the master bedroom. There is one parking spot included with this unit and additional parking available on the side of the house. There is a gas and a charcoal grill available for your use. This unit also has beautiful and large back deck with sweeping views of the bay. ALL PRICES INCLUDE THE MARIN COUNTY OCCUPANCY TAX of 10% WHICH WE ARE REQUIRED TO COLLECT. This house reflects the lives of my grandparents. My grandfather was a master mariner by profession. He sailed in the American Merchant Marine from the 1920s to the 1940s, circumnavigating the globe more than 25 times. His wartime service was as captain of the Liberty ship, SS John Fiske, whose identifying plaque from the ship’s bridge is on the eastern exterior wall next to the steering wheel. When they retired in the 1970s, my grandparents chose this location so that he and my mother could have a quiet life in the woods, but at the same time could see the horizon and part of the sea. The tree-top setting is just a half-mile from the town of Inverness with its store, post office, café, and restaurants; and a ten-minute drive from the restaurants, shops and weekend Farmers’ Market of Point Reyes Station. Beaches, hiking trails and the Point Reyes National Seashore are within walking distance or a short car ride, and the south-facing deck is sunny and warm all day. But don't take our word for it--read what the New York Times had to say about Salt Water, the local restaurant, and the delights of the wider area. '36 hours in Marin County', 27 Jan. 2013. We hope that you enjoy our house, enter into its spirit enjoying the views of Tomales Bay, the hills, woods and beaches of western Marin and Elephant Mountain bathed in the ever- changing light of the Point Reyes Peninsula, a very special ‘Island in Time’. The SpaceTree House is perched at the very top of the Inverness Ridge, with sunrise and sunset views. Secluded and comfortable, it's perfect for families and groups, and can comfortably sleep 8. The ground floor features 4 bedrooms (King, Queen, Queen, 2 Twin) and 2 full bathrooms. All rooms have windows looking out into the trees. Upstairs is a large open floor plan with kitchen, dining, living room with high wood ceilings, with french doors leading out onto the deck with a gas BBQ and views for many miles. The layout is truly perfect for families and small groups, whether hanging out together upstairs with the open floor plan, or wandering off for a bit of personal space. The home was re-built twenty years ago, after the Mount Vision fire, and was designed specifically to be enjoyed as a family retreat. You will enjoy the thoughtful and functional feel of this home, as well as the stunning location. Comfortable, clean, inviting, without being too ostentatious nor pretentious, this is a perfect home for relaxing with friends and family and enjoying the miles of trails literally at your doorstep. To view a YouTube video tour, search for: Tree House - Family Retreat w/ Views Guest AccessThe property shares over 200 yards of property line with the National Park, with several trails running in various directions directly from the property. Mountain bikers will be in heaven, as will hikers and bird-watchers and those with strollers and toddlers. The trails around the property are well marked and maintained, and are ideal for strollers or those who prefer strolling to hiking. Numerous smaller trails branch off for those who wish to explore further, with some serious loops possible, like down to Drakes Estero and back, or over to Limantour Beach. We have a nice kitchen stocked with all the condiments and spices you'll need, as well as every cooking and baking implements you can think of. Organic coffee beans, grinder, french press, coffeemaker, good sugar, cinnamon, tea, but the cream is up to you. Interaction with GuestsThis property is professionally managed by Point Reyes Vacation Rentals, a small local family-run business. We work closely with the owners to provide our guests with a wonderful experience in a well maintained home. You will be provided with detailed arrival instructions for self check-in. One of us is always nearby and available all day, every day, should any issues arise or just if you have questions. The NeighborhoodThe house is up on the ridge, and so it gets sun all day long. On clear days you can see Mount St. Helena 40 miles to the Northeast, and the Farallone Islands 30 miles to the Southwest. Getting AroundBring your mountain bikes and hiking shoes, headlamps, daypacks, stroller, and some picnic supplies. Be sure to stock up on groceries, because once you're up here, you won't want to leave. Other Things to NoteThis home does have stairs up to the living room/kitchen area, so it is not appropriate for those with mobility issues. If this property doesn't fit your needs, contact me. I have several other properties in the Point Reyes/Inverness area. Chances are I have just what you're looking for. There's one small, but new, flatscreen t.v. with cable and dvd player, as well as an HDMI cable for streaming from your computer. Frank's Place on Inverness Ridge is a charming Point Reyes vacation rental home with panoramic Tomales Bay views. With spacious living and sleeping areas, wifi and an outdoor hot tub, it's the perfect Point Reyes lodging for families, small groups, or couples seeking a coastal getaway. The natural setting is spectacular, with lush surrounding forest giving way to open vistas and rough-and-tumble rhododendron gardens. Here on the ridge nights are dark and quiet, and mornings are beautiful whether drenched in clear light or sheathed in fog. Scan the gardens or the meadow below and you may see deer, or even a fox or bobcat. This classic Inverness style home was designed and built by local architect Jim Campe in 1986. The living room, bedrooms, decks and hot tub all face out over forested parkland to Tomales Bay and the hills beyond. In the main living area wood and tile floors and high, beamed ceilings create an expansive and elegant atmosphere, while clearstory windows capture the afternoon sun. Just down the hall, the carpeted master suite features a king-size bed and large private bathroom with two sinks, giant tub and walk-in shower. The SpaceMI CASA ES SU CASA 3 bedroom house on 1/2 acre between Tomales Bay Wetlands and Sir Francis Drake Blvd. Room includes bunk bed with a single bed as the top bunk and a double bed as the bottom. Large kitchen with a view of Tomales Bay wetlands. Kitchen amenities provided. Children and dogs are welcome (and free). There is a large play structure outside and toys inside! Be aware that I board dogs and I have 2 canine elders of my own, so there can be anywhere from 3 to 6 dogs around and quite a bit of dust, at times. If you have allergies this might not be the ideal place for you, though if you let me know in advance I will do some extra vacuuming. But please realize that this is a farmhouse and a home, with several paws, projects and dirty shoes passing through. I do not mop daily. (Though the room will be dirt and dust free.) A "clean house" is a relative thing, so probably best to read the reviews and hear what others have to say. For the most part, day to day life here is calm and quiet, and evenings as well - but since there is a healthy amount of unpredictability around here I make no promises. Please be sure to read "Extra details; Other things to note" before . Guest AccessWi-Fi password: idespise Interaction with GuestsDepends on the day. Some days guests may have the house to themselves. Other days there could be up to 6 other people and as many dogs. There are times I am can't for that night, though my housemates may be around. Must be flexible! Getting AroundThe local public transportation is called The Stagecoach. Look up schedule on line. Other Things to NoteTo prevent false expectations, here are some of the cons: 1. Noisy road (not all night but can start up pretty early in the mornings.) - bring earplugs if you have sleeping troubles. 2. Dust, dog hair and allergies 3. Early early morning roosters wake up most campers Another thing to note for winter guests: I have forced air heating as well as individual heaters in the bedrooms. The bnb room gets really hot from the forced air. So at night the forced air heat is usually turned off and the individual room heaters on. So at times you have to pick between a warm house and hot room (with a big window), or a warm room and cold house. I go with guest preference.

The NeighborhoodCOMMUNITY Inverness is located on the west shore of Tomales Bay, which runs southeast along the line of the San Andreas Fault. Surrounded by Point Reyes National Seashore, it is primarily a residential community, with little industry other than tourism. It has a small downtown area with a general store, post office, library, two very good restaurants, one gift shop and a coffee shop. A third restaurant is located a short way north of downtown. There are also a number of hotels and inns spread throughout the town. One aspect of the town is a concentration of recreational (and some commercial) boating. There is a small public marina, a few private piers, and the Inverness Yacht Club. Portions of the John Carpenter film The Fog as well as most of his film Village of the Damned were shot in and around Inverness. HISTORY The town of Inverness is 15 miles or so from Drake's Bay on the Pacific Ocean, named after Sir Francis Drake, who explored the coast in the 16th Century. Although Drake's official log was lost, the ship's doctor's log described landing in an area that reminded him of the White Cliffs of Dover. Drake's Bay is backed by similar-looking cliffs, leading many to believe this is where the ship landed. The region became the property of James Shafter, who began to develop the property in the 1890s. It became a summer resort where people from San Francisco and Oakland came to camp, hike and swim in Tomales Bay. Many built small summer cabins that still exist today. Small steamboats took day trippers down the bay to secluded beaches. They left from Brock Schreiber's boathouse, which has been preserved and is a prominent local landmark with its prominent sign "Launch for Hire". The first post office opened in 1897. In 1995, Inverness Ridge was the site of the Mt. Vision Fire, which burned a large area of Point Reyes National Seashore and a number of homes built on the ridge. The town itself was threatened but was saved by helicopters dipping water from Tomales Bay to drop on the Bishop pine forest between the town and the burning ridge top. Selected Top Restaurants * Saltwater in Inverness. Excellent Seafood, $$ * Cafe Reyes in Pt Reyes. Excellent Italian from Wood burning oven, $$ * Osteria Stellina. Some shallow/deep. Local favoriate. * North Beach - Beautiful !!!! * South Beach - Beautiful !!!! Getting AroundThere is lots of parking on the property !! Not a problem there. Public transportation in the area is very limited; plan on driving to get to/around Inverness. Once you're in town, it's only a few mins to get from one beach or trail to the other. Other Things to NoteYou will be surrounded by the Pt Reyes National Seashore park. ACTIVITIES Top things to do in the area, include: extensive & lite hiking along hundreds of trails, swimming and kayaking in the usually warm Tomales bay (warm because it is shallow), camping in the Pt. Reyes National Park, bird watching, and all that the natural outdoors has to offer. Lots of wildlife are worth the trip: Tule Elk, Deer, Seals, etc.

Designed and built in the 1970s by renowned ecological architect and author Sim Van der Ryn and renovated in the 1990s, the Eco Refuge's 4,000-square-foot, three-story house—a traditional pole barn with attached Japanese-style pavilion—includes three bedrooms 3.5 baths, along with additional, informal sleeping areas. In all, the house sleeps 6 to 8 adults comfortably.    The house's ground floor comprises a yoga/exercise/massage space; one bedroom with queen bed and en-suite shower-only bath, and a 1,000-square-foot open kitchen/den/dining area/TV nook, a room that's ideal for dinner parties and talks and gatherings, with an operable window wall that seamlessly merges it with a large outdoor terrace overlooking a pond, water elements, and the forest.  There is a new pullout sofa bed as well as an alcove bed in this living area, ideal for kids & young adults, with a half-bath directly adjacent.  The ground floor bedroom is nice and dark and tucked away, with the feel of a library. The house's second floor features another living room with a work corner/desk, all of it wrapped in windows with vistas of the gardens, and an additional bedroom with en-suite bath (with tub) featuring a sold cedar wood sink.  The second level bedroom also features a Queen bed, from which you can look out the window, across the property to the treeline. A spiral stair in the living room concludes at the house's third floor, the master suite, with a Cal-King bed and full bath with clawfoot tub.  Windows on all four sides of the suite look out across the gardens with hypnotizing views on all sides.  A very nice view to greet you when you awake. Along with being Wi-Fi equipped, each room displays Van der Ryn's own paintings and other art collected over 40 years, and the house includes his personal multi-thousand-volume architecture and ecology book collection.  Guests enjoy our linens from Coyuchi and Cuddledown; quilts and blankets are from travels in India and Europe.
