The SpaceThe house offers two comfortable bedrooms. The smaller one has a double bed, bamboo floors, French doors that open directly onto the deck, and gorgeous views of the sunrise over the river and redwood hills. The larger has a queen bed. The open kitchen is equipped with a gas range, dishwasher, microwave, coffee maker, and all essential implements (down to the candy thermometer!). Cook up a storm with fantastic local ingredients -- I can offer recommendations on great places to pick up meat, produce, and seafood. Just so you don't have to worry about it, I provide olive oil, salt, pepper, and a few other essentials. There's also an herb garden just outside the back door. There is a large, sunny dining and sitting area just off the kitchen. It's the perfect spot to lounge, enjoy a glass of wine, and admire the views of the river and hills. The living room has a wood burning stove to keep things cozy on winter evenings. (Note that there is no television, so please bring your own device for entertainment. The internet is great for streaming!) The large back deck offers plenty of room for lounging in the sun and watching the river flow by. The hot tub is perched on the edge of the deck with great river views. It is wonderful for stargazing at night and birdwatching in the morning. The house has flower gardens with seasonal roses, lilies, daffodils, fuchsia, irises, hydrangeas, rhododendrons, and California poppies, to name a few. There's also a vegetable garden, and if you're lucky, you can harvest some fresh ingredients during your stay! I've only owned the house since the start of 2013 and have been working to constantly improve it. If you're looking for an impeccably posh experience, this might not be the place for you. But if you can handle a few (mostly charming) imperfections in a very functional and fun house, then it will be a great fit. I welcome any feedback you have on what I can do to polish this diamond in the rough, and hope you can come back to watch it evolve. Enjoy your escape at the riverside retreat! Guest AccessGuests have access to the full property: house, hot tub, sunny deck, gardens, and river access. Interaction with GuestsI like to learn a little bit about my guests, so definitely introduce yourself. I'm always happy to answer any questions and do everything I can to ensure you have a fantastic stay. I will not be at the property while you stay, but am accessible by phone and email if anything comes up. Other guests have provided excellent feedback on ways to make the house even better, and I welcome yours as well. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is unique for the area: quiet, sunny, and removed from the traffic of River Road. Its signature feature is the tall Lombardy poplars lining the streets. You'll notice a profusion of birds of all kinds at this intersection of the redwood hills, meadows, river, and ocean. Hummingbirds abound in the garden. There's an easy 30-minute stroll through the neighborhood to the community garden, old-growth redwood "ghost tree", and path down to Austin Creek at the end. It's possible to walk all the way to Duncan's Mills (about 2 miles) or on the back road toward Cazadero. Getting AroundIt's about a 10-minute walk to the bus stop, but in reality you'll probably need your own car to get around. On the other hand, it is pretty easy to spend days at a time without going beyond the house, deck, and hot tub! Other Things to NotePlease note that that weekend bookings require a three-night minimum, and holiday weekends have a minimum based on the length of the holiday (i.e. three-day weekends have a four-night minimum). Exceptions can be made for last-minute bookings. I allow a maximum of four guests, although in certain circumstances I approve up to two extra people with an additional charge of $25 / person / night. If you need to use the sofa bed, I ask that you supply your own linens for it. The house has a fully stocked game shelf at your disposal: Settlers of Catan, Ticket to Ride, Cards Against Humanity, cribbage board, playing cards, Connect Four, and a jigsaw puzzle.

The SpaceThe house itself isn't fancy, just nice — simple, clean, open, uncluttered, with plenty of light and books and random doodads. Two bedrooms, stocked kitchen, sunny deck with grill, plenty of sheets and towels. What is fancy is the setting: end-of-the-road privacy, with majestic redwoods on one side and a sunny slope on the other, rolling down to the valley. And to the west, nothing between you and the Pacific Ocean (other than a few thousand trees). (Actually, could be a hundred thousand — I haven't counted.) Play records, read books, cook a meal, or explore the countryside: vineyards, wineries, bakeries, farmer's markets, funny little towns, beautiful winding roads. 5 minutes from Duncans Mills (antiques, shops, restaurants, cuteness), 7 minutes from Monte Rio (river fun, kayaks and tubing), 13 minutes from the insane cliffs and beaches of the Pacific. Guest AccessPlay records, read books, cook a meal, or explore the countryside: vineyards, wineries, bakeries, farmer's markets, funny little towns, beautiful winding roads. 5 minutes from Duncans Mills (antiques, shops, restaurants, cuteness), 7 minutes from Monte Rio (river fun, kayaks and tubing), 13 minutes from the insane cliffs and beaches of the Pacific. Other Things to Note -The master bedroom has a full bed, easy for two people; the other bedroom has just a single. There's also a couch and a cot and plenty of floor. -The only heat is a wood stove. (Firewood and kindling are included.) The stove is high-efficiency and low-emission, but you do have to get the fire blazing. I've also got dual-pane windows and double insulation. -The place is nice but still a work in progress, so please expect "rustic charm" rather than "luxurious perfection." -For weekends, I generally have a two-night minimum; please feel free to email for more details.

The SpaceThis little a-frame cabin would make a productive retreat for an artist, writer, or musician, or a romantic getaway. Surrounded by redwoods on a private road in Cazadero, my cabin is an hour and forty-five minutes north of San Francisco: a roughly ten-minute drive to the beautiful Sonoma Coast, and just fifteen minutes to Guerneville and wine country in the other direction. Head west and you’ll hit the charming town of Duncans Mills; go east to Monte Rio, and catch a movie at the historic Rio Theater. The full bed sleeps one or two comfortably. No TV or microwave; yes record player, wood-burning stove, equipped kitchen, and lots of cookbooks. The backyard is sunny and sloping with a view. There’s a table and bench on the deck for al fresco dining. And there’s speedy wireless Internet, too. Guest AccessThe full bed sleeps one or two comfortably (three if your third person finds couches comfortable!). No TV or microwave; yes record player, library, equipped kitchen, and lots of cookbooks. The backyard is sloping with a view. There’s a fire circle out back (and plenty of sticks around for spearing marshmallows). And there’s speedy wireless Internet, too. Other Things to NoteThe house is small, so please keep your party size to one or two. The bed is a cozy full size, and the mattress is memory foam. If you prefer a luxuriously large and super firm bed, this may not be the place for you! The house has been lovingly restored, and continues to be. But it's a work in progress, so please don't expect sleekness and perfection: the fridge lives on the deck and on the smaller side (4.6 cubic feet to be exact), and there's no freezer; the bathroom light is a lamp you have to turn on. If you’re the sort of person who might find these quirks endearing, this might just be the place for you. If all that sounds uncomfortable and horrible, it might, unfortunately, not. Any questions, please ask me! ** ATTN GUESTS BOOKING FOR THE WINTER (JAN & FEB) ** The cabin is heated by wood stove, two small space heaters, and lots of blankets. If you prefer central heating, please search out other accommodations on Airbnb. This is not the place for you! And a word of warning about the weather: Please note that Cazadero is the 2nd wettest city in California! In the woods that means possible power outages, and in an A-frame, that means the rain can be quite loud against the roof. Travel insurance is highly recommended; last-minute cancellations due to weather will not be accepted.

Sonoma County TOT Cert. #:742N Guest AccessGuests have access to main house, fully equipped kitchen, extra sleeping cottage, game room with ping pong table, 3 kayaks (except during rainy season), bicycles, hot tub, claw food bathtub, big grassy meadow and the Russian River. The space is not ideal for all families since all 3 sleeping areas have their own entrance. The layout is ideal for adults or couples traveling together as you'll each have a private space to retreat to at night. Note that because the main living area is small and in order to respect our neighbors' peace and quiet, we do not allow more than 6 guests at a time. Please do not consider renting our house if you are looking to have a rowdy gathering or if your total number of guests is more than 8, including children. We are extremely strict about occupancy and do not allow any extra guests at any time. If a quiet, relaxing getaway enveloped in nature is what you're looking for, then this is the place for you! Interaction with GuestsTypically I only interact with guests via phone and email, however our property manager, Michelle, lives a few doors down. It's more likely you'll meet her at check in or particularly if there are any issues she can help with. We are very strict about occupancy out of consideration for our neighbors, so please do not book if you have any plans of breaking our golden rule of no more than 6 guests (or 8, adults and children) and absolutely no parties, events or extra day guests. We prefer for all our interactions with guests to be positive. The NeighborhoodWe are located on a quiet, residential country road that runs along the Russian River. There are redwood trees, wildflowers, and an amazing trailhead into the Willowcreek Wilderness Preserve. Hike "Islands in the Sky" with breathtaking mountaintop views overlooking the river and coast. This is also fabulous mountain biking terrain. Duncans Mills is a sweet little historical town; filled with antique and unique gift shops, wine tasting, a cafe with a it's own coffee roaster and wood burning oven, a post office and a bar with live music outside on the weekends during the warm months. There's also a general store with local meats, wines, and anything else you may need, and a restaurant with big, hearty breakfasts. The town is a leisurely 20 minute walk from the house; or a 10 minute bike ride. Explore the coast 5 miles away with it's stunning views, beaches, walking trails, and the mouth of the river, where harbor seals nurse, waves crash and the sun sets year round. Pure heaven! Getting AroundNo public transport. This is a country getaway. If you are flying in, a rental car is essential. Other Things to NoteWater quality and conditions on the Russian River can change rapidly. We recommend you research river conditions online prior to your stay if you plan on swimming or using the kayaks. Kayaks are not available for use during the rainy season (typically December 1 - May 1). A signed waiver is required for use of the kayaks.

There is a wrap-around deck that surrounds all four sides of the house with a nice short ramp provided for those guests who are walking-challenged or wheelchair-reliant. The house has tile flooring throughout and furnished with craftsman-style dÊcor and a blend of modern. The kitchen is fully equipped, with commercial faucet and gas stove. New counter-height dining table and waterfall seats ideal for staring at the ocean. The beds and pillows are covered by quality linens and allergen-proof liners. Gas BBQ and bar-height tables on the deck. Complimentary load of firewood for use in the large, brick fireplace for times when the coast is foggy, cold, and windy. Enjoy complimentary use of TWO tandem kayaks, each large enough to hold 2 people and a small dog or child. Enjoy bird-watching, canoeing, and fishing (upriver from Russian River Bridge). October begins the small Steelhead run; November begins the larger Steelhead run that would continue to April. From mid November through April begins the whale migration to the south. WILDLIFE AND ACTIVITIES (INSIDE PARK) The Goat Rock State Park is located more than a mile west of Highway 1, far from the glare of ambient lights, and separated from the small town of nearby Jenner by both the Russian River estuary and the Goat Hill peninsula. As a result, on a clear night, the house offers some of the darkest night skies and unbelievable opportunities for star gazing and night photography. Besides its two beaches, the Goat Rock State Park offers many miles of walking trails, including the Kortum Trail and the western section of the Pomo Canyon Trail. These trails lead you to ocean vistas, wind-swept grasslands, wild life and faunas. The unique rock formations along the Kortum Trail near the park's entrance are used by rock climbers for a wide variety of climbing challenges. The Park has also earned the distinction as a wildlife refuge -- home to a variety of migrating birds and, between mid-February and August, a colony of quiet, state-protected harbor seals and their nurseries. During weekends, the small road in front of the house can be popular as visitors drive to the estuary. When the park closes at sunset, relish the privacy that only a state park preserve can provide. Turn off the lights, step onto the front deck and hear the roar of the ocean below. On a clear night, see the shimmers of a dark night sky stretch across the ocean's horizon. * Security deposit ($200) is fully refundable after stay via Flipkey payment system. ** Rental rate remains same for occupancy up to 6 people. No additional charge. *** Weekend rate ($360) applies to days close to or on the date of a national holiday. ACTIVITIES OUTSIDE PARK Outside of the Park, you are 5-mins drive from the Willow Pass Trail; 15-mins drive from the start of the Pomo Canyon Trail; 20-mins drive from the trails at Bodega Head and also, to the newly constructed Bird Walk Trail in Bodega Bay; 35 mins from the start of the advanced bike ride up King Ridge Road, and 40-mins from the Armstrong Redwood State Natural Reserve in Guerneville. For the northern coast of California, expect unpredictable weather during certain times of the year (especially spring and summer), when the coast can have 30F degree drop in temperature within a day. On days like this, we recommend that guests explore inland, where temperatures can be 10 to 15F degrees warmer. The house is about 30-mins drive from zipline activities in a redwood valley of Forestville, delightful general stores of Valley Ford and Duncans Mills, gourmet deli in the Korbel Champagne House, famous breads of Wild Flour Bread in Freestone, and many fine restaurants in Jenner, Bodega Bay (1-Michelin star), and Guerneville. About 30 mins drive is the start of several award-winning Pinot Noir vineyards along River Road and Sonoma’s back roads. Add another 15 mins and you reach the lovely town of Healdsburg, from which to explore Alexander Valley. Sonoma County was named the #1 of wine destinations in the U.S. by TripAdvisor Travelers' Choice for 2012. GEOGRAPHIC LOCATION We are 1 hour and 45 minutes drive from the Golden Gate Bridge, San Francisco...4 miles south of Jenner and 10 miles north of Bodega Bay, Sonoma County.

The NeighborhoodMost homes in the Russian River area are located in rural neighborhoods, home to a colorful, eclectic population of both full-time and vacation home residents. There are neighbors, but they're usually not too close, and you can expect the kinds of activities typical of any neighborhood. There are a range of dwelling types, and you might rub elbows with a 5th generation River resident, a Silicon Valley scion, and a Generation of Love retiree on the same block. The Russian River is a vacation destination year round, and most homes are built on roads running parallel to the River or Creek with mountains close on both sides, so there are varying degrees of noise from the roads, the River, residents and other visitors. Many roads are narrow (some may even wend and wind a bit), without much street lighting, so it's best to arrive in the daylight, if possible, and please download and use our directions. GPS, online mapping and cell service are not reliable in this area. If you have any questions about the general access to or neighborhood surrounding this home, please give us a call at (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Getting AroundPublic transportation is very limited in this area, and you will need a car to get to the house and to visit nearby sites. The closest airport is in Santa Rosa (30-45 minutes), next is San Francisco (2-2.5 hours), then Sacramento (2.5-3 hours). Ten minutes from the Russian River and halfway up a hill, this dome home is perched on stilts in a secluded redwood clearing. Watch the fog roll through the valley in the morning, and the stars above the hot tub at night. There is one bedroom with a queen bed, one bathroom with a shower, a big open plan living area, a dining area, a fully-stocked kitchen, two decks, and three acres of forested yard. The top deck overlooks a small clearing in the forest, and beyond that across the treetops of the Austin Creek Valley. There's a hot tub a few steps from the front door, and down a path into the yard is a second deck with a fire pit and grill. The bedroom is upstairs, and is furnished with a new bed, skylights for star watching at night, and windows with views of nothing but treetops. The open plan kitchen is fully stocked with cooking equipment, with a gas range, large oven and dishwasher, and there are dining tables both inside and out on the deck. The dome has a lot of mod-cons for a hand-built house. There's double glazed windows and central heating to keep those misty mornings cozy, a dishwasher so you don't have to spend your vacation washing dishes, a projector and apple tv for evenings when you're tired of star gazing, great water pressure in the shower, and a bubbling hot tub under the redwoods. While it's never necessary to build a fire in the wood burning stove, it does make the place feel extra cosy in the winter, so we'll provide plenty of firewood for that and the firepit on the deck.
