See Point Arena Light House, open meadows filled with wildlife, and magical sunsets. Built by a well-known artist, the home features multiple pieces of his original artwork below cathedral ceilings. Bring food and drink to create a special recipe in the well-equipped kitchen which features new appliances, including a refrigerator, microwave, and range with a convection oven. The master opens to a deck with ocean views, has a Cal King bed, a reading area, and ample closet space. The expansive master bath offers a huge two-person all tile shower. Interaction with GuestsI touch base with guests by email, text or phone several days prior to arrival to answer questions, provide additional information on the house, and see if they have any special requests. I like to be at the home to greet guests if possible, but head home after getting everyone settled. The SpaceAn unusual house, an architectural marvel on the Mendocino Coast. While the pictures don't do the house justice, they do convey its uniqueness, tranquility and the seaside beauty of the surrounding area. There are ocean views from the living room, kitchen and master bedroom. The house is cozy and spacious with fireplaces in both the master bedroom and living room. There is radiant heat, hot water circulating under the tile floors, throughout. Interaction with GuestsI generally try to meet with them before they go to the house to give them a key, directions and some details about the use of the house. If that proves unworkable, I mail the key and discuss use of the house on the phone. The NeighborhoodIt is quiet, peaceful and the ocean views are tremendously calming. Other Things to NoteI prefer to restrict one night stays to Sunday through Thursday nights to keep the more sought after Friday/Saturday combination available.

There's a wonderful, sandy, private beach that runs for about two miles. It's a 15-18 minute walk to the sand, or a 3 minute drive, using a magnetic gate card to go past a gated barrier. The house looks across a fifteen acre meadow to the sea. There are ocean views from everywhere in the house - you can see and hear the water from laying in bed in the master bedroom. There's a fireplace in the master bedroom, and also a TV-DVD/VCR for movie showing (but no TV reception) with a collection of 360 well chosen movies (I chose them). There's a Jacuzzied tub for two in the master bathroom. There's a fireplace in the living room, and a futon couch that opens into a comfortable full size bed. There's a second bedroom/den/office two steps up off the living room and open to it with a Full size bed, desk and chair and a chair and ottoman. There's a half bath off the living room, so if two couples go up, or a couple with children, they don't have to share a bathroom at night. The den/office also functions nicely as a writers' and artists' retreat, and has been the starting point - and midway jump start - for two published novels and three published non-fiction works, and a book of photographs. There are also two fold-out mats that accommodate another two sleepers, and since the house is tiled throughout and has radiant heat (hot water under the floor tile), sleeping close to the floor on the mats is very comfortable. There's also a chair and ottoman for reading, that also opens up to a single futon bed. There's a stereo that plays CD's. The house is set up so that you can just walk in and occupy. There's dishware, cookware, and I supply linens. Some people want to bring their own, but you'll find the bed made up with fresh sheets and fresh towels available. I ask that you keep the house clean, leave it clean, and wash and dry and put away the linens and dishes that you've used. There is laundry and dishwasher soap there. There's a patio in the front with great ocean views and some patio furniture. There is another patio in the back, completely private from the street. The front patio is also private because the street is remote enough, and there is almost no one around. There are no houses on either side, in back or directly in front. The nearest house is about 300 feet. But the real miracle is the house itself. It's a series of curves. The ceiling, in cross-section, is a softened bell shape; the centerline, if there really were one, would be like a long slow backwards 'S'; and the exterior shape is curved too. It has an amazingly compelling and satisfying feel to it. It seems to resonate with people, and they feel at home, as though it were their house at the sea, not a stranger's place. There's a large well stocked supermarket in Manchester, S&B;, five miles south of the house. And ten miles south, in Point Arena, there is a very good restaurant and a movie theatre. The Arena Cove Bar and Grill has good food and is very reasonably priced. Seven miles north in Elk, the Greenwood Pier Cafe has been highly recommended; and of course, 25 miles north, in the town of Mendocino, there are several very good restaurants. Also, please note: I restrict one night stays to Sunday through Thursday nights to keep the more sought after Friday/Saturday combination available. There is a flat 11% Mendocino County tax; there is a flat housekeeper's fee of $85 for all stays. Also note: The Den/Second Bedroom is open to the living room. See pictures. If you want to bring a dog, and I agree to it in advance, there is a $25 fee. The house is on California's scenic Mendocino Coast, half way between the Village of Mendocino and Gualala, at the Northern end of Sea Ranch.

Our custom-built home is perched on a bluff at the northern end of Manchester State Beach. Conde Nast named Manchester as one of the ten best beaches in California. The six-mile beach offers fascinating tide pools and the finest surf fishing on the north coast. A massive jumble of driftwood logs line the base of the cliffs creating a natural playground for kids. Our home offers dramatic white water views and the ideal spot for eavesdropping on the coastal wildlife. Ospreys and red-tailed hawks soar by at eye level as they ride the wind currents at the bluff's edge. Whales veer extremely close to shore here during migration and, in the early winter, tundra swans stop off for a breather while heading south. Deer are plentiful and visit our property to graze every evening. The house has open-beamed pine ceilings throughout, and an ocean view from all but one room. A large deck and hot tub overlook the crashing surf. The master bedroom has a queen-size pine canopy bed with memory foam mattress and down comforter, a window seat overlooking the surf and a custom-tiled bathroom with a country French 12-inch shower-head. The second bedroom has a king size bed decorated with a patchwork quilt. A queen size sofa bed is available in the great room. The spacious pine kitchen is modern and fully-equipped. The separate living room boasts spectacular views, a long window seat and cozy fireplace. We also provide a small library of books and games. Base Rental Rate is for 4 persons, children included. Our home is on the oceanfront bluff overlooking the north end of Manchester State Beach. Located 3 1/2 hours north of San Francisco, 10 minutes north of Pt. Arena, 30 minutes south of Mendocino village.

You will love staying at this serene beach house with spectacular views of the ocean, amazing sunsets, a fully-equipped kitchen -- including a new range, refrigerator & microwave -- and access to a gated private beach with level parking! The home is new to this site but we are experienced hosts. I'll happily provide multiple reviews from recent guests with their contact information so you can be sure what you're getting. Located on the beautiful Northern California coast between the historic town of Mendocino (30 miles/48 km North) and the artist community of Gualala (20 miles/32 km South), this extraordinary 2-bath, 3-bedroom retreat -- all on one level – allows you to experience incredible Pacific Ocean views from virtually every room. See Point Arena Light House, open meadows filled with wildlife, and magical sunsets. Designed by a well-known artist, the home features multiple pieces of his original artwork below cathedral ceilings. Bring food and drink to create a special recipe in the well-equipped kitchen which features new appliances, including a refrigerator, microwave, and range with a convection oven. Enjoy a meal in the adjoining dining area with an ocean view. The master and second bedrooms are in separate wings of the house, ensuring privacy whenever you want it. The master opens to a deck with ocean views, has a king bed, a reading area, and ample closet space. The expansive master bath offers a huge two-person all tile shower. A second bedroom has ocean views, a king bed (can be configured as two twins), many shelves of books, and a large closet. The second bathroom is next door and features a deep infinity tub/shower with fantastic ocean views. A third bedroom/office has a queen futon, a desk & printer, and a full wall of closet space. We welcome children, but the home is not childproofed and some original artwork features tasteful female nudes. The large, comfortable living room overlooks the ocean, has mid-century modern furniture, a wood-burning fireplace, board games, and CD/DVD player. There is no standard television service but we do offer Netflix and Amazon Prime TV. You're welcome to bring your own DVDs or select from our library. Take an easy drive up the coast to Mendocino and Fort Bragg or south to the Point Arena light house. Enjoy the sounds of breaking waves, see migrating whales, walk or drive to the private 8-mile beach or Pomo Lake, visit Anderson Valley wineries, sample fare at remarkable restaurants & bakeries. Or do nothing...just relax. Forget something? No worries! A well-stocked grocery store is located in Manchester, 4 miles/6.5 km south. Want a little excitement? Visit the casino/restaurant, tour the lighthouse, or take in a movie in the town of Point Arena, 8 miles/13 km south. Come visit, we'd love to hear from you! A few notes: Guests have access to all areas of the house, deck, and garage with the exception of two locked storage areas. I touch base with guests by email, text or phone several days prior to arrival to answer questions, provide additional information on the house, and see if they have any special requests. I like to be at the home to greet guests if at all possible, but I head home after getting everyone settled.

Getaway to Irish Beach The Cetusaurus at Irish Beach is an unusual house, an architectural marvel, on the Mendocino Coast. It's 140 miles from the San Francisco Bay Area. There's a large well stocked supermarket in Manchester, S&B, five miles south of the house.

The SpaceAs mentioned, we have two loud roosters that tend to compete with each other sometimes as early as 7:00 am. Our 1/2 mile dirt road is quite rough, so extra caution is required in observing and avoiding the larger rocks. Guest AccessUnfortunately, we don't offer kitchen privileges at this time. However, there is a small refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a hot water kettle in the room for your convenience. The second floor has an additional room which is private. Interaction with GuestsThere are three of us living on the premises, so someone is always available to assist with anything guests might need. The NeighborhoodWe are a ten minute drive from the beach and twenty minutes from Point Arena. There is a small general store ten minutes away on Hwy 1. They are open 8:00 am to 7:00 pm daily. There are a few restaurants in Point Arena. Other than that, we are at least an hour from just about everything else so come prepared! Other Things to NoteOur house is a corrugated steel structure to minimize damage in the event of wildfires. It is only accessible by a mile long rocky dirt road. Four-wheel drive or all-wheel drive is recommended but not necessary. Compact cars with normal wheel base clearance should make it as long as you pay extra attention to the larger rocks to avoid them.

Many of the first homes built at Irish Beach were designed by Berkeley architect, George Klett. Such is the Barlow house, understated and elegant. It sits directly above the ocean, in the bluffs that wind along the beach. The surf roars and pounds on the rocks below. The living spaces are large and open, distinguished by high drop cross beam ceilings and a long row of higher windows which add more light to the already plentifully windowed living and dining room. The kitchen, fireplace and entry are all terracotta tile, which added to the redwood, are warmly enveloping. The large master bedroom is upstairs and the guest rooms and entertainment center with its own woodburning stove are downstairs. There is a TV in the main living area upstairs, as well as, downstairs. There is a newly installed downstairs half bath. The hot tub is nestled behind L shaped glass walls that provide wind and view protection. Please be aware that the spa jets are weak because the tub is dated. The large front porch/deck with the lovely landscaping is perfect for mid-day lounging. This home DOES NOT provide any free unlimited long distance calling. Please plan accordingly. Please consider booking several months in advance for best calendar selection. Life goes a little bit slower when you enter Mendocino County, mainly because of the winding roads! Shalimere is a PRIVATE HOME located west of Highway 1 on the 'ocean side' of the Irish Beach community, well sited to provide maximum privacy. The real vacation starts when you open the door to Shalimere. Hang your keys on the coat rack and walk into the living room. Take a minute to gaze out the front windows at the glorious Pacific Ocean. Open the sliding glass door leading onto the deck and step outside and listen to the waves breaking about 75 yards away. Take 3 deep breaths and your vacation has officially begun. Your next decision is only necessary if you have brought perishables or your pet. Put the perishables in refrigerator or freezer. Take your pet for a walk, whichever has the most immediate need. (probably the pet!) Bedroom decision time is easy if its adults and children. The adults get the Master bedroom, the kids get the other. If it's all grown ups then a flip of the coin, 'rock, scissors, paper' or drawing straws may be necessary. Both bedrooms have luxury sheets and down alternative comforters with duvet covers and bathrobes. Bathrooms have Aveda salon hair products (not to be confused with Aveeno) and full size hair dryers. (A few less things to pack!) After deciding---settle in. Shalimere is pet friendly. There is a large indoor kennel, a large dog bed, plus dog sheets and towels if you have couch potato or bed warmers, along with pet bowls for water and food, plus a few dog toys should you forget. There is a deck around 75% of the house with gates at both ends. BE SURE TO LET US KNOW WHEN YOU MAKE AN INQUIRY IF YOUR FURRY FAMILY MEMBER IS ALSO COMING SO WE CAN RESPOND AND PLAN ACCORDINGLY. (Please note, the deck is not baby or pet 'proof') If you bring your pet, we ask you leave the house in the same condition (pet hair, nose prints and paw prints removed) as it is upon arrival. We currently do not charge extra fees pets but have recently had some very hairy/sandy and muddy experiences that required a lot of extra cleaning time. Please respect the house. The hot tub is ready whenever you are. There are robes in both bedrooms closets if you have forgotten your own. You might want to bring slippers, just in case. There are many magazines to peruse. Playing cards, several classic board games, jigsaw puzzles, plus seashell guide, hiking guide, kayak guide, tidepool guide, 2016 tide chart , bird books and more. We also have an 'out and about book' for local activities information and keep the monthly Mendocino County Tourist newspaper. Our large flat screen smart TV is hooked up to the Dish Network so you can stay up-to-date with the local major networks, plus CNN, ESPN, TNT with 190 stations or listen to the music channels with a huge variety to choose from. The soapstone gas fireplace starts with just a flip of the switch on the side. We call it 'instant ambiance'. Shalimere is easy to just stay in and enjoy. If you want to head out to the private beach and are up for a rigorous walk down and back, then go for it! Or you can easily drive down the same gate accessed private drive. After all, this is your vacation! The beach is nearly 5 miles long, depending on the tide. Sometimes you have it completely to yourself. You might see a few people. It is only for Irish Beach residents & guests so you may meet a kindred soul. The surf can be mighty - so be watchful. (Because of the strong riptide, water activities are not for the inexperienced) In the surrounding 25 miles you can find all sorts of diversions, enjoyment, pampering and even giraffes, zebras and other african animals. Exploring the nearby towns can yield many treasures and pleasures. The main thing is to enjoy yourself--have a wonderful time and plan to come back again soon. Everyone loves a bright sunny day, but there are those of us who love watching whale migrations (or signing up with one of the nearby whale watching groups) or just relaxing on the huge couch with a book with the gas fired soapstone fireplace roaring with heat! The rain and the fog are not deterrents to having a great day. Winter is my personal favorite to watch the storms and to see the whales migrating. Check out this amazing house at an incredible rate any time of the year. Shalimere is the exception within the Irish Beach community and is the best price house WEST of Highway 1. (There is a difference being on the Ocean Side of Irish Beach!) There is no 'high or low' pricing. Exceptionally well priced year round. Please note, because I am "independent", my prices are better than those offered by the local rental agencies. The 'free' days they offer with various stays end up the same or more than my home after you add in their "up charges", higher cleaning fees, pet fees, non refundable damage fees, etc. Please consider the real overall charges when making a decision. Experience the difference of a caring owner with an on-site manager who lives 5 minutes away. Come enjoy the days on the wild Mendocino coast as summer beckons or for the amazing days of fall, the real 'summer' on the coast. Winters bring incredible weather both rainy and sunny. Nothing like watching the storm roll in while warm and comfy in the house. Shalimere is enjoyable no matter what time of year or the weather. We keep individual ice creams in the freezer for your pleasure. Read the reviews and see how our guests are treated and feel about the house. The pictures do not do this house justice! (Please note, I keep the availability calendar up to date. VRBO does not show 'pending' listings. I usually hold requested days for 48 hours and then update/remove if I don't hear back or receive the deposit) Current pending dates as of 23 November 2016: 18-24 Nov 2017 VRBO also 'encourages' the use of credit cards for payment. On top of the annual fee I pay to VRBO to list my home, they now receive a generous commission and VRBO will add it directly to your rental cost. Therefore the cost you are billed to your credit card will not match the amount on your rental agreement. Just an FYI. If you do not wished to be charged to your credit card, do not enter your credit card information. You can still inquire about availability without inputting this information. There are no fees with personal cheques or cash/Venmo payments. You can read my reviews and see there has never been any comment or complaint regarding my payment policy. I am also happy to spread payments over time prior to your arrival to help accommodate a longer stay. No one has ever said they stayed too long! Most people say, "Next time we will plan to stay a few days extra". Lorie Brand Shepard Owner Keywords: Vacation Home with Beautiful blue water views
