The SpaceGrace Oaks is a lovely home for your retreat or getaway. Nestled in mountains, just a mile and a half from Mariposa, 'The Gateway to Yosemite,' and decorated with the theme of the wildlife that roam nearby, you'll enjoy coming home to this retreat after a day in Yosemite, or Historic Mariposa. In the summer the town is alive with tourists, weekend 'Music on the Green' featuring local artists in a lovely park setting, occasional open air movies on the park lawn. A fun time to visit is in the spring, when the falls in Yosemite are running. Mariposa has it's butterfly festival, and parade (usually the first weekend in May.) The poppies in the Briceburg canyon are breath-taking. Fall is also wonderful; Starting with the Labor Day Parade and old fashioned Mariposa County Fair. I love the colors that come with the changing of the leaves, and the crisp air. Winter is great, especially if we have a few snows! The Mariposa Christmas parade is usually the first weekend in December, as is the annual Christmas Craft fair. Yosemite offers some fun activities at the Ahwannee, as well as ice skating, and skiing, or it's always fun to drive there to see the Lord's majestic Creation. It's also fun to just relax at Grace Oaks... away from the hustle and bustle...sit on the porch and watch for deer (which I see here everyday,) wild turkeys, quail,& rabbits, while you enjoy a good book...( and I just saw a coyote there today.) Roast marshmellows around our fire circle, or hang out under the stars in our Jacuzzi. Nothing beats a family Christmas away from the city. Get away and remember what a simple quiet CHRISTmas is really all about. You can't beat the price... all these rooms and a kitchen for the same price of one little stuffy hotel room. What do you have to lose?. ;) Guest AccessHot tub, New BBQ & Propane fire pit, wood fire pit, 8 acs of exploring, Fully supplied kitchen with all new counter appliances. Porch swing... The SpaceThe historic part of our house was built in 1894 and it is part of California Historical Landmark 331. The downstairs Garden View Room (this listing) has a spacious bedroom and bathroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed and the bathroom has an antique claw foot tub and separate shower. The "Sky View" room upstairs is offered as a separate listing on Airbnb. If you rent both our Sky View and Garden View rooms together, you can also use the fold-out bed in the living room for an additional person. We have recently (April 2014) installed a quiet and efficient state-of-the-art electronic heat pump system in all the guest rooms. This provides heat in the winter and cooling in summer. We also provide warmth in winter using our wood burning stove in the living room. We offer free wifi in all rooms and wired internet in the living room. The internet is a very fast 4 MBPS symmetric. The B&B has a new addition which was built in the 1990s where your hosts live. We are most proud of our natural farm and orchard. We have seasonal vegetables, greens, blueberries, goji berries, apples, figs, and recently planted cherries and mulberries. We grow all our food without chemical sprays or fertilizer. Our guests are welcome to pick and eat whatever is ready for harvest when they are here. The nearby Hunter's Valley access road offers trails for exploring by foot, bike. In Mariposa just 12 minutes south by car and there are a variety of stores and restaurants, including a health food store and deli. Just west of Mariposa there is a rock shop where you can find some local minerals and even ask about local rock and mineral hunting. Because the pace in Mariposa is slower than large cities, you will find that shop owners and people you meet on the street are willing to take the time to have a conversation with you. This is one of my favorite things about this area. Guest AccessYou can explore our gardens which have many varieties of fruits and vegetables. Guests are allowed to pick and sample what's in season. Interaction with GuestsWe treat our guests as family. You are welcome to hang out with us as much as you like as we go about the business of gardening and running our BnB. Nancy prefers to be working outside, she is also found in the kitchen processing our various harvests, such as curing olives, pickling cucumbers, or just preparing meals. Bill is often working on our irrigation systems or doing physics. Since we have two separate houses that are joined together by a breezeway, guests can have as much privacy/interaction as they wish. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood is unique. We have no "official" business. However, walking around you may meet the local residents and learn first hand about the area. People often have more time to simply hangout around here. Our next door neighbor often opens his house as an antique store on weekends. Getting AroundWe have excellent bus service from Mariposa, to either Yosemite or the Merced Amtrack station (YARTS). There is no public transportation in our neighborhood. Other Things to NoteCheck in time is from 4 PM to 9 PM unless otherwise arranged. Check out time is 11 AM.
