The SpaceThis simple and quiet cottage is in a wonderful Palo Alto location. Three blocks from downtown Palo Alto, a half mile from the bus and train station and Stanford mall, and 1.5 miles from the center of Stanford's campus. It's easy to get here and get around even with no car! We're also across the street from a lovely park, in case you're visiting with kids. The cottage bedroom has a queen size bed that we have been told is very soft and luxurious. The bathroom is newly renovated with a tile shower and floor. There is a small kitchen with a microwave, cooktop, breakfast bar, and skylight which connects to the living room. There is free wi-fi and an in-unit washer and dryer. The parking is on-street and plentiful. We provide you with a temporary parking permit to hang in your window while you're here. We can make a port-a-crib available for your use. I keep the calendar updated, so you should assume that if dates you are interested in are shown as not available, then they are not. Also I will not accept reservations more than three months in advance. I absolutely will not accept reservations for stays longer than 6 weeks. We really appreciate any feedback our guests have on how to make our cottage more comfortable! Guest AccessGuests will have the entire cottage to themselves. The entrance to the cottage is off a patio that is shared with the main house. During summer months we typically keep a table and chairs on the patio and you are welcome to enjoy those. Interaction with GuestsWe typically try to greet guests as soon as we see them after they arrive and then will chit chat if we see them on the patio or driveway after that. We are very happy to chat more though if you're interested. I especially like recommending my favorite restaurants and places to visit in the area as well as hearing more about what brings people to the area. The NeighborhoodI love how near our neighborhood is to so many great shops and restaurants. Getting AroundPublic transit is very convenient - we are about a half mile from the bus and train stations. Parking is on street and easy to find. It is possible, but annoying, to get to our house from the airport using public transit. I recommend a rented car, taxi, or shuttle. Other Things to NoteThe door has a combination lock and you can check yourself in. The combination is included in the house manual which is emailed to you when your reservation is finalized. Our check-in/check-out times are often flexible. Please feel free to inquire when you make your reservation if you would like an adjustment to these times and we will accommodate you as best we can.

The SpaceMy 800 square-foot condo is part of a 4-unit building in downtown Palo Alto. It's cozy, tastefully decorated, and full of light. One bedroom has a queen bed and the second has a twin size futon. There is high speed wifi internet and a large tv with cable, including HBO. Keurig coffee maker and washer/dryer are some of the comforts of home that are available. Clean towels will be provided and both beds will be made up with fresh linens. My home is in an area with lots of restaurants and a few bars, but it is unusual to hear any noise from people on the street. You can sometimes hear Caltrain, but it is not bothersome and the transportation option close by is a huge benefit. Street parking in the neighborhood is readily available in the evenings and on weekends. The detached garage is also available. Guest AccessThis is a second floor unit, with stairs up from the street level. Interaction with GuestsI will likely not be around, but I am reachable by cell phone if you want any advice about the area or if you need anything at all. There is a code lock on the door, and I will send access information in advance of arrival. The NeighborhoodPalo Alto. Restaurants, shopping, Stanford all within a two block walk. It doesn't get any better than this. Getting AroundOne of the highlights of this location is that public transportation is less than two blocks outside the door: Caltrain, Stanford Marguerite shuttle. It is easy to get to San Francisco, any of the local airports, Stanford, etc. I am happy to help. Other Things to NoteThis is one of the only homes in the area with central air conditioning. In the heat of the summer, it will make your stay much more comfortable.

Garden access through the gate next to the driveway. I can lend you a yoga mat so that you can practice on the patio. If I'm available, I can offer you a ride to or from the Menlo Park trains and buses. One time use of the washer & dryer for a $5.00 fee because of the on-going drought in California. Guest AccessThere is a beautiful garden and patio where you can sit and enjoy yourself at any time of the day. Enter through the gate next to the driveway. No kitchen access but your room has a coffee maker, free coffee and tea, a mini-fridge stocked with water and juice, an ice bucket (ice on request), energy bars and a microwave oven. There are food trucks at The Willows Market on Mondays and at the Menlo Park train station on Wednesdays. Interaction with GuestsI love to interact with guests and will be around most of the time. Let me know when can get to know each other over a cup of coffee or a glass of wine, during the daytime or in the evening. I'm a night-owl, so it's never too late! The NeighborhoodBeautiful, quiet and safe neighborhood with lots of trees. Off-street parking next to your room. Shoreline walking and bicycling trails are not too far away. Nice public swimming pool with lap lanes is 5-minutes away by car. Getting AroundBicycles can be rented on Stanford University campus for approximately $10.00 per day and also in downtown Palo Alto for the same price at two locations: University Avenue at Cowper Street and at the Palo Alto train station. The Stanford "Marguerite" shuttle bus stop is a 5-minute walk away. Free pick-up/drop-off at the local bus or train station, depending on my availability. A 5-minute drive or 15-20 minute walk to CalTrain and SamTrans (buses) on El Camino Real in downtown Menlo Park. A 5-7 minute drive or 20-25 minute walk to downtown Palo Alto. A 10-15 minute drive to Stanford Shopping Center, Stanford Hospital and Stanford University. Airport shuttles go to both San Francisco and San Jose airports. Approximately $25.00 per person one-way to SFO. SamTrans KX Express bus at train station to SFO is $5.00 per person. The apartment is completely remodeled with beautiful and sophisticated materials - sustainable bamboo hardwood floors throughout, concrete countertop, crown molding, recessed lights, Persian marble... The unit is fully furnished and equipped, has a queen size bed, and a convertible sofa bed, for any of your occasional guests. However, the tranquility and small-town feeling is an illusion, since you are close to all amenities and have easy access to freeways and the corporate world of Silicon Valley, which is only minutes away with e.g. the headquarters of (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) being only a few minutes drive. Besides the nearby large usual Supermarkets, the local smaller Willow's supermarket, on Middlefield, only a couple of minutes walk away are famous for their huge selection of all sorts of beverages, international food and groceries and houses a Lavazza coffee shop, and has a great 'food truck' event every Monday, plus wine tastings every Wednesday evening. The SpaceIf privacy and quiet are important, this is the place. Share with me and only me — no partner, no kids, no pets, no roommates, no other guests — like having your own place, with your own private bedroom & private full bath, off-street parking, plus TV & WiFi (IMPORTANT: off-street parking is critical in Menlo Park which does NOT allow street-parking overnight). A big space that's completely furnished, your bedroom accommodates two, with plenty of closet space with extra room for your luggage. Guest AccessYou're welcome to take advantage of the fully stocked kitchen, room for your provisions in the refrigerator and freezer, on shelves, etc ... plus enjoy the dining room, living room, etc. Interaction with GuestsI'm available to help with directions and recommendations, helping visitors find their way and improve their stay ... and with my own space in the back, I can be as invisible as necessary. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is downtown and upscale: cafes, restaurants, bars, three name grocery-outlets, theater, banks, drugstore, train/bus stations, free shuttles — any place that matters is walk-able. In Silicon Valley with downtown Palo Alto and the Stanford campus a 30min walk away, 10min by bike or car. Also located right between three major cities and three major airports, each 45-min away. Getting AroundA mass transit hub: Caltrain, bus-service, shuttles, car & bike-rentals ... That apartment has no access to the house. My long term tenant Sam is very discreet. She enters and leaves by the alleyway. Sam is often helpful to guests with questions about the area, the house, or if there is difficulty getting in. We fully appreciate and honor your need for privacy. In order that we ensure the house is properly prepared, your hosts would appreciate being notified of your arrival time. It is also helpful to know your departure time. Public bus service (SamTrans) to downtown Palo Alto and beyond is two blocks away and stops at the Palo Alto CalTrain station. Palo Alto CalTrain station is a 20 minute walk from here. The SpaceThis is a super cozy apartment right in downtown Palo Alto--one block from the Apple store on University Avenue. There is wireless internet and tv with roku box so you can stream tv and movies (netflix, hulu, etc. (no regular tv channels). The bedroom has a comfortable full size bed. The bathroom is small but has the basics like shower and sink. There is also a small kitchen with stove, refrigerator, microwave, etc. There is no laundry onsite, but there is a laundromat across the street that also offers wash and fold service. We just added a small window air conditioning unit that will help with the summer heat. Parking is included and in the lot behind the house! If you don't mind renting an older and smaller unit, you can't beat the location as you are a block away from University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto. Guest AccessYou are welcome to use anything in the house. There's also a nice area in the backyard that you can share with other tenants in the building. Interaction with GuestsI likely won't be able to meet you in person, but I'm always happy to answer questions via phone, text, and email. The NeighborhoodDowntown Palo Alto is a really fun and vibrant area. It's also walking and biking distance to various parts of Stanford University, so you should definitely visit the campus if you have some time during your stay. Getting AroundCabs to/from SFO are pretty expensive to Palo Alto. I would say the cost is around $90. You typically won't save any money by calling a cab versus taking one from the airport. I usually like to take BART to CalTrain. My apartment is about a ten minute walk from the Palo Alto CalTrain station. The cost is about $10, but it will take you an hour versus 30 minutes. Another option people use is SuperShuttle. If you are renting a car, there is one reserved parking spot included in your rental price. Palo Alto is very bike friendly! A previous tenant really liked the bike shop on Stanford Campus, but there are many places that rent bikes to visitors. AirBnB obscures website addresses, but you should be able to find it by doing a web search. Other Things to NoteThis unit is in a converted historic home in downtown Palo Alto. This means it's an older unit with lots of charm, but it doesn't have all the amenities that a more modern building can offer. If you're optimizing for being in a location where you can walk to a ton of restaurants and cafes and don't mind the occasional street noise from people visiting downtown Palo Alto or being in a smaller space, I think you'll be very happy here!
