The SpaceWe added our "aluminum guest house" to our back yard with a 100 foot tall crane- up and over our 2 story house. We spent a year gutting it to the bare aluminum shell and then rebuilding it. Everyone pitched in, it was a 3 generation family project that turned out exactly as we envisioned it: A clean new modern space inside the iconic mid century Airstream silver bullet shape. It turns out to have very good fung shui and creates a peaceful, cozy feeling. We call it "The Haven." People always smile the moment they see it, and take pictures when they leave. Our 1969 Airstream International is outfitted with guests in mind. Our back yard is quiet, green and private; with a beautiful deck, a bbq, tables and chairs. Inside is plenty of headroom, clean modern amenities, new plumbing, delightful 1969 Vintage décor. Designed to be a totally a comfortable space for travelers and visitors, we use spa-quality products for the full size shower, and the bedroom has a dream catcher, 2 reading lamps and 1000 thread count sheets on the exceptionally comfortable queen size bed. Guests have wi fi and Premium cable TV to enjoy, a universal cell phone charger and a lava lamp. The kitchen is well equipped and all appliances are brand new and Retro Red. The dishes are vintage California pottery, and there are books about Airstream history. We leave a first morning breakfast for you, tea and Peet’s Coffee. There’s a folder with information about trails and nearby attractions as well as menus from many excellent restaurants in our area, delivered if you want to stay in cuddled up beside the “fireplace” (heater). Our “Haven” doesn’t travel any more but the unique Airstream experience here makes people happy. It is a perfect get away for celebration and romance, for rest or attending an event in the area, writing, reading, escaping, visiting family nearby. The SpaceNestled among Mount Tamalpais' majestic old-growth redwoods is a chalet Hansel and Gretel would feel at home in..and a fully equipped apartment with a separate entry and private patio. It has a small kitchen, good for basic cooking. The view stretches across San Francisco Bay to the Oakland hills and beyond. The size of the property, 2.5 acres, ensures peace and quiet. Downtown San Francisco is 25 minutes – and a million miles – away. Mt. Tam's hiking, running and biking trails are at hand. Mill Valley via the Dipsea Steps is an easy 20 minute walk (and a challenging uphill return). The location is very central for tourist destinations, and very secluded and private for those needing rest and relaxation. The legacy of the original proprietor, photographer and author Suki Hill, who lived in the home since 1972, will be carried on by her daughter, Abigail Hill. Sadly, Suki passed away June 14, 2014. The rental is the lower floor of a wonderful, characterful Mill Valley home, built in the late 1930's.There is a sunny patio outside the apartment with spectacular views of San Francisco Bay and overlooking rose and dahlia gardens. A short stroll down driveway leads to another "secret" garden with a small pavilion for quiet reflection or yoga. The home is also close to Muir Woods and the beautiful Hwy.1 coast. One can drive to the wine country in an hour . Guest AccessGuests are welcome to explore the property. From the house you can access the Pipeline Trail which will take you to Mt Tam where there are endless beautiful hikes. You can also access the Dipsea Steps and trail. The steps are a nice hike into downtown Mill Valley and the trail is a beautiful hike over to Stinson Beach. Interaction with GuestsI am happy offer any suggestions. The NeighborhoodThis is a very quiet neighborhood, a lot of the people who live up here have lived up here for a long time and get along very well and are very helpful if you bump into them on the street and have questions. Getting AroundNot necessary but advisable that you have a car up here. Unless you are up for doing some hiking to get down into town. It is about a 20 minute walk from the house to get to downtown Mill Valley where there are shops and restaurants. Longer getting back as it is all uphill. I have had people stay without a car, but they're looking for the ability to really get away and enjoy the seclusion of being up on the mountain here. Other Things to NoteI live on the property in the main part of the house.

The SpaceHello! I'd be happy for you to stay in my freshly decorated, light-filled, private guest room. There is a full kitchen just outside one of your doors that you are free to use. There is a spacious shared and newly redecorated bathroom just outside your other door with a fab deep porcelain tub and rain shower head (and an empty drawer for guests). This home is the upper half of a 107-year-old duplex (that was built in 1909 by a ship's captain). I like to think of it as my sweet old tree house. In your room you will find fresh linens on a super comfy full size bed with a feather mattress topper and down pillows, quirky vintage lighting, an array of artwork from friends/local artists, and cable tv (HBO/Showtime/etc). And Wifi, of course. There is a lounger/day bed/seating area, access to a vintage record player with an eclectic selection of vintage vinyl at the ready, and a fan is provided should you need to cool down (and a dedicated space heater for the colder nights). I provide coffee, tea, and water and have set aside a drawer in the fridge for visitors. Feel free to use my vintage stove, Sparky... perhaps have your breakfast on the plant-filled screened porch! The boss around here is Iggy. He is the happiest, most easy-going cat you could imagine. Maybe don't stay if you are terribly allergic because he will want to say hello (though you are welcome to keep your doors closed to cut down on visits). I also have four happy chickens out back (but no noisy rooster)! :) The best park in town is just down the street if you want to stretch out on the grass with a blanket and have a picnic. There is a playground, public tennis courts, barbecues, grassy field and picnic tables for your use (bring your own racquets!). We are a 10 minute stroll to downtown Mill Valley. There are wonderful shops (MINT, Summer House, the shops at Mill Valley Lumber Yard, etc) and awesome food/drinks (Tamal Pie, Mill Valley Beerworks, Sol Food, Tony Tutto, Pearl's, etcetera) and the newly opened Equator Coffee location just downtown. A bit further afield (and on the way to the city) you will find the highly recommended Proof Lab/Equator coffee in the Tam Junction section of Mill Valley (and great breakfasts at The Dipsea Cafe). We also have two (yes TWO) Whole Foods markets and the MOST wonderful Mill Valley Market nearby should you need them. There are great hiking trails, mountain biking, running trails, and yoga studios right here in town. Some good things to know: The house is 10 minutes to the Golden Gate Bridge, 12 minutes to Muir Woods, 20 minutes to Muir Beach and Stinson Beach, and 45 minutes to the lush wine country - it's a great launching spot for all of the activities that Northern California has to offer. Always plenty of free street parking right outside the door if you are driving or renting a car for your stay (which is advised because there is SO MUCH to see). I have been an airbnb user myself for seven years and that really has helped me with being the best host that I can be :) Guest AccessFull kitchen, shared bathroom - also a washer/dryer if staying five days or longer. The happiest little screened porch to hang out in for morning coffee, evening cocktails or to read a book. If you want to use the vintage turntable and lps, just ask! :) Interaction with GuestsI am normally present and available to my guests. I am just as happy to hang out and share a chat as I am to take cues from guests and give them their privacy. The NeighborhoodThis sunny house has the best light and a view of the peak of Mt. Tam from your room (if the apple tree isn't full to bursting). You can often hear families playing and singing happy birthday at the park just down the street if your windows are open. Beautiful trails are right up the hill out the back door. Located only a 10 minute stroll from downtown Mill Valley and all it has to offer. Getting AroundCars/rental car makes the most sense if you opt to stay in Marin but the #4 bus stops just at the end of the street and can take you to downtown San Francisco. The Sausalito and Larkspur Ferry landings are a short drive - it is great fun to take a boat right into the city and the renowned Ferry Building. Other Things to NoteThe current cleaning fee is $25 per 5 days (or less) stay. Should you book a longer stay, I will ask another $25 for each additional block of five days or shorter portion thereof (expect fresh sheets, towels, dusting and vacuuming every five days included in this fee). Unimportant but fun fact: My home was featured on the Poppy Talk website and also the Apartment Therapy website several years ago :)

The SpaceOur home is a redwood oasis. Your room is the most breathtaking in the house - nothing but windows with views out to green treetops. There's a creek below the house you can hear from the room. You'll be sharing the house with Rachel and I. We love sharing our space with the Airbnb community. Rachel is a yoga teacher / singer / doula / health coach and I'm a doc filmmaker / musician / meditation instructor. The house is one of the oldest in Mill Valley - and used to be a weekend getaway for Marilyn Monroe and Joe Demaggio! It's a very old house so it has it's quirks - but space is very important to us so we've loved it up a lot. Your bed is a very comfortable full futon (we've slept on it many times!). Guest AccessYou're free to make use of the fully stocked kitchen (vitamix! juicer!), living room with TV + stereo, the beautiful front patio / table, curl up in front of our gas fireplace, or enjoy the yurt in our backyard (when it's unoccupied). Ben works from home - so the downstairs office is off limits. We also have a beautiful upright piano & guitars for the musically inclined. One note - cell phone service is a bit spotty from the house. You're free to use Wifi to make (website hidden) calls as needed, or, if you'd like, we can temporarily add your cellphone to a small microcell tower we use to boost service. Your bathroom / shower is downstairs, and it's a bit quaint / small - but works like a charm. Interaction with GuestsRachel and I have variable work schedules and are sometimes traveling, so we may or may not be around for your stay. We both work from home, so if we are here, we are more than happy to share best local spots, etc. but just a heads up that we may be doing the work thing! The NeighborhoodOur location couldn't be more perfect. Deep in the redwoods, yet minutes from downtown Mill Valley. Some of the favorite hiking and biking trails of Marin are literally minutes walk away; Muir Beach / Stinson Beach / Mt Tam are a 20-30 minute drive. You'll love it, we promise. Getting AroundUnfortunately, public transit is scarce from the house, so it's best if you have your own car. Parking is available down below the house by the creek.

The SpaceThe upper story of our carriage house, The Springfield, is a home we created for ourselves while we renovated the main house on the property. It is sophisticated yet warm and cozy at the same time. You will enjoy your privacy inside or on the deck, and can look out at the beautiful trees which surround the property. It will be your oasis in which to relax from the outside world, yet only a 5 minute walk (on level ground) to the center of Mill Valley. If you feel more adventurous, you can explore the majestic nature of Cascade Canyon or Mt. Tam which begins just down the block. The apartment is composed of a living room, open kitchen, bedroom, bathroom with glass-tiled European shower which is beautifully lit by a diffused glass window in the shower, and a deck off the bedroom. The bedroom has a queen size bed, feathertop mattress, and the linens are "second to none". It is outfitted with wireless internet and a modern AV system which includes digital cable, flat screen tv, and dvd/cd player. The kitchen has a gas stove and large refrigerator. Parking is always available right in front of the house. We can direct you to local shops and restaurants in Mill Valley, Sausalito and beyond if you would like to explore. The opportunities for incredible dining experiences in the Bay Area are probably too numerous for your short stay, but you might want to explore some if you have time. From the moment you arrive at our carriage house you will know that you've found a gem property with comfortable and tasteful furnishings, 5 star amenities, and the prime location in the heart of Mill Valley. If you prefer a shorter stay (less than 3 night minimum), we can accommodate you with a supplemental cleaning fee. Guest AccessYou will enjoy unlimited access and privacy in the Carriage House and private deck. We also allow guests to use our garden outdoor tables and chairs subject to availability. It is a beautifully maintained garden. Interaction with GuestsWe are generally here to assist guests with wifi, laundry or other questions and needs. We also let our guests enjoy their privacy. The NeighborhoodLocation, location, location. Our guests (see reviews) all rave about this location. Walk anywhere you need to go in town, to the market, to Equator, Peet's, the Depot, the theaters, restaurants, etc. All within 5 - 7 minutes. The award-winning Mill Valley Library is less than 1 minute away and many of our guests who are writers have spent many hours there working. Hiking and biking trails, less than 1 minute from our door. Quiet residential neighborhood with lush nature (redwoods) and sophisticated sunny garden. Getting AroundParking is right in front of our property. The SpaceIt's green, fresh-air, quiet living just 10 minutes from San Francisco! Apartment comes with full kitchen (including everything you'd need to cook and eat!), living room, bedroom with queen-sized bed and brand new, ultra-comfortable Casper mattress, plus a bathroom with shower and access to washer/dryer beside unit if required. It includes free Wifi, and two flat screen TVs with Apple TV (including Hulu, Netflix, and HBONow free-of-charge). Coffee, tea, soft drinks, and snacks will be waiting for you upon arrival. Fresh bathrobes, linens, hypo-allergenic pillows, blankets and towels provided. Fabulous organic high-end grocery story (Good Earth) and drugstore (Walgreen's) within walking distance. Boring but important: By law, Mill Valley now requires AirBnb renters to pay an additional 10% occupancy tax. This tax needs to be collected, in cash, during your stay. It works out to $12/day. We will leave a tax envelope in the space and you can simply leave the money in there. (We will also leave you plenty of extra snacks/drinks to make up for it!). We're sorry we need to do this. We reduced our daily rates to help lessen this burden on our guests, but do wish to follow the law and be responsible towards our community. Although it's a 1-bedroom apartment, the living room is large enough to accommodate 2 more children/infants. We are happy to provide a comfortable double air mattress for the living room so four people could use the space, with an extra charge for double occupancy. We do not charge extra for babies. So, if you are a couple and would like to bring a child with you, that's absolutely fine (no extra charge). If you ARE traveling with a baby, we can provide a portable crib plus toys/books for use during your stay (so you can minimize what you lug with you on your trip!). If you are traveling with older children, they are welcome to use our extra-large backyard trampoline and swing set. We are right on the border of all the incredible national parks, beaches, etc, but still extremely close to San Francisco and the East Bay. Easy commute via public transport (number 4 bus) or Sausalito ferry into the city. Or even ride your bike across the Golden Gate bridge! We can also provide space in the yard to store and lock bicycles, surfboards, etc, in case you're using the apartment as a jumping off point for a weekend of physical activity/fun. Parking is free and plentiful, with a dedicated spot for you on the street in front of house. Guest AccessThe entire place is yours! The apartment is attached the main house (it's the entire lower floor), but with a completely separate entrance (and no access into the main house from within it). So it's entirely private. Interaction with GuestsVery little (unless you want more!). We are just upstairs and happy to help you in any way you need. But, if you really are looking for total serenity, we'll also stay completely out of your way, too. That said, we're always happy to say hello (and help answer any questions or give recommendations for fun stuff to see and do). We do live upstairs with three well-behaved children. We will take extra care when there are guests in the house to ensure they are quiet and not playing in the space directly above the apartment, but footsteps and muffled noises can be heard during the daytime hours. If, for some reason, you are disturbed in any way by some sounds from above in the morning, simply send a quick text and we will work hard to reduce the noise immediately. The NeighborhoodTamalpais Valley/Mill Valley is a beautiful oasis. Redwoods, beach, hiking trails, yoga, road cycling, mountain biking, and more. A great place to come if you want to train for a triathlon and need somewhere to relax in the evenings. Or, if you just want to escape the city and clear your head. Mill Valley itself is quaint and lovely. Plenty to see and do, and so close to all the majestic beauty of the North Bay plus the culture and excitement of San Francisco and the Silicon Valley. There's a wonderful organic grocery store within walking distance of the apartment, and we're happy to lend you a trolley so you could walk to/from to grab groceries if you desire. Getting AroundCity buses (numbers 4 and 17) taking you directly into San Francisco (and back!) are within walking distance of the apartment. Or, ride a bike to the Sausalito ferry and enjoy a great view into the city (happy to lend some bikes to do this). Plenty of free parking directly in front of the apartment on the street, too. Other Things to NoteThis apartment is perfect for city dwellers who want a weekend retreat from San Francisco, or business travelers or out-of-towners who are here to explore the Bay Area but also looking for some serenity at night to compliment the excitement of their day. Tamalpais-Valley is incredibly close to San Francisco (just 10 minutes north!) and the apartment is very clean and peaceful.

The SpaceOur unit, which we've named Bloomers, is a quaint little private apartment with a full kitchen and a queen bed. It is within two blocks (or less) of two grocery stores (incl. Whole Foods), several restaurants, coffee shops, a theater and lots more. It is a 15-minute walk from the quaint shops and restaurants of downtown Mill Valley and even spectacular hiking. On our street corner is a bus stop for transit to San Francisco, or, if you have a car, we are about a 15-minute drive from the city. It is unusual to have this proximity AND a view as most homes/units are situated deeper into the hills and valleys. So while many will have views, very few will have a view within walking distance of so many conveniences. Also, perhaps of interest to music fans is the fact that Mike Bloomfield, a famous blues guitarist, lived in our home in the 70s. Originally, he created the lower unit (that is 'Bloomers,' his nickname) as a recording studio, but never completed it. He used to play with Bob Dylan (locals recall listening to Mike work with Dylan on songs from Like a Rolling Stone in our house), the Butterfield Blues Band and more. Recently, a documentary was released about his life/accomplishments and then Rolling Stone wrote this article 1/2014. Guest AccessThe apartment is self-contained and has even been a full-time residence for our family and au pairs in the past. Coffee, an espresso maker, a selection of teas and electric kettle, makings for oatmeal, cream, a half dozen eggs and even wine are stocked for guest arrivals. There is one parking space available for guests. Interaction with GuestsBecause our home is upstairs, we are 'in the vicinity,' but are very respectful of our guest's privacy. We only interact with people as much as they'd prefer. This also makes it easy to quickly help our guests should they need anything. The NeighborhoodWe love that we have everything so close. Whole Foods, Super Duper (a locals favorite burger joint), frozen yogurt and Puerto Rican restaurant...are within a block of our house and are regular haunts of ours. There is space between the houses here with lots of natural beauty. People who have been in our house say they feel like they are in a tree house. It feels like that to me, too. I love that we can access anything we need while also being able to walk out our door and down the road onto a path that will lead us deep into open land. Or, if we are just relaxing in the house, we appreciate the wildlife that simply passes by our windows...hummingbirds, deer and fox are commonly seen floating around. Getting AroundDepending on your planned activities while you're here, you may not even need a vehicle. If you DO have one, we provide one parking space and we are in close proximity (3-5 minutes) of Hwy. 101. If you are coming without a car, The Marin Airporter (which services SFO only) is a terrific, luxury bus shuttle from the airport. Stopping at the Manzanita stop, they will even arrange taxi service to the house (for an additional fee). The bus stop providing service to San Francisco is on our street corner. Ferry service is a 10-minute drive, depending on time of day. Other Things to NoteWe have recently renovated the apartment specifically for short-term rentals. It's extremely clean with all new, or gently-used furniture. It's comfortable and nicely appointed with modern fixtures. People who have stayed have at Bloomers have been surprised at the outdoor beauty, and the decks and then are thrilled when they actually see the inside of the apartment. It's very relaxing and is a great place for a retreat while also being convenient.

The SpaceOur large (3300 square feet plus 500 sf home office) brown shingle home was originally built in 1902 as a vacation cottage. Recently upgraded, the home now has four large bedrooms and a whole floor for entertaining and gathering. We love our home for its’ all day sun, fantastic views, privacy and easy access to town and the great outdoors. The kitchen boasts a six burner chef’s range, a large entertainer’s refrigerator and a massive center island. Plus all the cooking and entertaining equipment you might need. We have two living areas adjacent to the kitchen. The first is a large paneled living room and dining room with a beautiful stone fireplace and a dining table that seats eight. The den has a flat screen TV, PS4 blue ray/dvd player and three walls of large windows that make you feel like you are living in the tree tops. Our four bedrooms are all private from each other – three with views of Mount Tamalpais and two with decks. Wake up to a spectacular view of the mountain from the master suite. It is glorious to watch the landscape change from the pale greys of early morning to brilliant orange as the sun rises. The room has a king sized bed and the bathroom has dual sinks, a huge bathtub, a separate shower, Calcutta marble and more views. Our teenager's room is elegant with a queen bed and another great view. We have bunk beds in our middle child’s room and a king sized bed in the large downstairs room – which can function as a bedroom or playroom or both. We have two decks, a bbq, a large (new) trampoline, basketball hoop and lots of indoor and outdoor toys. Talk to us about inclusion of our mountain bikes or surfboards. The NeighborhoodWhile you might enjoy spending all of your time at the house, we are just a 10 minute walk from downtown Mill Valley (the square has a great live music venue, movie theater, restaurants and shopping) and a few minutes from the spectacular biking and hiking trails that Marin County is known for.
