The SpaceMy home is well appointed with two bedrooms and baths. The master bedroom has a King bed and the downstairs bedroom has a queen bed, both bathrooms have bath tubs. Both bedrooms have soft linens and comfortable McRoskey mattresses. The living room has gas fireplace as well as forced air heat, but no A/C. There is a gas barbecue grill on the deck. The Deck has seating for 4 or more under a big 10' umbrella to get out of the sun on warm summer days. The kitchen is well stocked with a coffee maker, coffee grinder, hand mixers, Cuisinart, juicer, blender, soda stream, toaster, popcorn popper and everything else you would need to make a great meal. If you are looking to get out and enjoy the outdoors, there are irrigation ditches both above and below the house to walk, run or mountain bike on the path along them. There are a lot of other public trails in the area and are listed at Bear Yuba Land Trust website. In the Summer, the mature garden is always in bloom. A vegetable garden is available for picking anything that is ripe for eating. Mostly cherry tomatoes, greens, lettuce, herbs and basil. The South Fork of the Yuba River is nearby (a 20 minute drive to some of the best swimming spots). Be forewarned, while this place is peaceful and quiet most of the time, there is a shotgun range down the hill at the Sportsman Club. They shoot Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday from a VERY safe distance. It is not all day long but you will hear it at the house and around town. The house is 30 minutes to I-80 at Auburn or Colfax and 1 hour to Truckee via Hwy 20. The house is not suitable for young children. Guest AccessWiFi internet, Roku player with Amazon prime, Hulu Plus and other Roku apps, full kitchen, foam roller, exercise ball and walking distance to two irrigation ditch trails. Vegetable garden in summer and sometimes winter vegetables. Level 2 electric charger in driveway. Interaction with GuestsI would like to interact as much as a guest needs. I have plenty of information in the house manual online and at the house for guests. As with anyone staying at your house, you want them to be comfortable and have what they need. I promptly respond to texts and emails before and during a visit. I would rather give too much information than not enough. The NeighborhoodThe house is on a quiet road. The area is a relaxing retreat from the city or everyday life, but it is close enough to town to enjoy mining history, art, plays, movies, restaurants, shopping and more. Getting AroundUnfortunately, there is no proximate public transit. There is a small bus line in and around town, but the closest stop it at least a mile and a half away. Other Things to NoteThere is a Level 2 32 amp EV charger in the drive way for any elelctric car.

The SpaceThe 'Ohana House is nestled in a cozy hollow, yet gets plenty of sun. The space is modern, clean and fresh, with a cute kitchen and small dining area, a desk/office area, sitting area, bedroom area, and bath with a custom tile shower. There is a European washer/dryer in the unit, and a small outdoor breakfast area that overlooks that back yard. Guest AccessThe 'Ohana House is conveniently located to many of Nevada City's attractions: -1 mile walk to town, where you'll find great restaurants, shopping, music, and theater. - 10 minute walk to a local convenience market to pick up a paper, snacks, beer, wine, etc. -Across the street from an access point to the Hirshman Trail - Short 4 mile drive to the Yuba River (49 Crossing) - Short 3 mile drive to the trailhead of the Independence Trail. - 53 mile drive to Truckee/Sierra ski hills Interaction with GuestsI like to be on hand to greet each guest when they arrive, as the 'Ohana House is a separate structure a few hundred feet away from the main house. I appreciate the opportunity to chat briefly, give you a tour of features of the 'Ohana House, and answer any questions. After you settle in, it's likely you won't see me at all, unless we meet in passing. However, great conversation with travelers is always appreciated. :) Please be aware that check-in is generally between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. on your arrival date. While other arrangements can generally be made, if you are unable to respect an agreed upon timeframe, please consider staying at a motel, as extremely late arrivals impact my family and neighbors. Also, I do plan my afternoon/evening around your arrival. Respect for my busy schedule is MUCH APPRECIATED. The NeighborhoodThe 'Ohana House is a half hour walk from town, with access to the nearby Hirshman Trail just out the front door. You will wake up to the sounds of the birds in the trees and the horses pastured across the road. Getting AroundThere is a single parking stall at the 'Ohana House. If additional parking is needed, be sure to ask, and we'll make space. Other Things to NoteThe 'Ohana House is up a flight of stairs, and may not be a good fit for people with accessibility issues. The 'Ohana House is perfect for two people, more than that would not be comfortable. While we love children, this is not the best place for them,. Infants are welcome - a portable crib is available if needed.

The SpaceThis is a very large home, older but tastefully decorated in what is called Shabby Chic. The description I hear consistently from the numerous friends and family that gather here are Comfortable, Clean, Cozy! The kitchen is well stocked, the dining room lends to intimate meals in a defined room with a fireplace. There is both forced Air heat and a wood stove. Although the bedrooms are generally small they are nicely furnished with lovely fluffy beds, down comforters. All look out the our very private landscaped acre of lawns, flower beds and pool. There are 2 rooms in the house, off the Living Room, dedicated to children's play. Guest AccessTo everything except closets. I have set up alternative hanging stands for clothes should guest need to hang their clothes. Also no use of the sand box. During the Holidays, starting with Halloween, my home is tastefully decorated for each Holiday. Please inform me when booking if you prefer to have the decorations taken down. Interaction with GuestsNone except to greet them initially. In the summer the pool needs to be managed and maintained daily by either a pool service, a friend, the gardener or myself. Whoever that is will notify the renters when they will be there, typically in the early AM and will use the pool gate to the side of the p[ool area to go in and out of the pool The NeighborhoodIt's within walking distance to Nevada City yet is on the edge of town so...very quiet and peaceful. Birds singing abound in the early mornings! Getting AroundNo however perhaps the local bus has a stop nearby. I have room for 5 cars to park in marked spaces off the main road. Other Things to NoteI am very "clear" about how to navigate the safety of the pool with young, non-swimmers. If for any reason I get a feeling there is a risk, I would need to make the pool unavailable. Might I say, that situation has not happened. In hot weather there is a specific way to operate the WHOLE HOUSE fan for maximum cooling upstairs. After numerous experiences with young children not cleaned off properly or not at all, I have made the sand box off limits The is strictly no parties on these premises and no smoking on the property.

The SpaceLog cabin adventure. Starry nights in the hot tub. Happy noises from children's camps during the summer months. Very quiet the rest of the year. After dark serenades from owls and crickets! Flat screen T.V. Simulated wood gas stove provides romantic flame lit ambiance. There are two bedrooms, one with a queen bed and one with a double bed, a small loft over the kitchen with one twin, and a skinny ladder to access, and a futon couch that makes into a double bed in the living room. We don't recommend the loft for older adults or younger children. Guest AccessThere is a private hot tub off the deck. Interaction with GuestsDrue is on the property daily. We have three cabins and 5 acres to care for. We are not at all intrusive, but do enjoy interaction with our guests. We often have artists and writers who appreciate being undisturbed. We honor their wishes as best we can. Rene and I are only a phone call away. The NeighborhoodOur neighbors are mostly children's camps that are in session during the summer months. We live in a forested area that is not visible from the street. Our night skies are not polluted by any city lights. The number of stars visible in our sky often stun our guests from the city. Hiking trails abound. Yuba River's Purdon Crossing is only 3.5 miles from the cabin. Many clear deep pools and warm boulders. Getting AroundThere is a taxi service that can take you to downtown Nevada City. From there, busses are available to local destinations. Other Things to NoteWildlife share our forest. If one is very quiet, one might enjoy a memorable sighting of squirrels, deer, bear, or even a lion! Fox and Bobcats are quite common. (Lions and bear's extremely rare!) Be sure to keep your pet on a leash when outdoors. Dogs are eager to chase wildlife and then get lost.

Nevada City is set among the tall pines, Victorian houses, and the many historical buildings. The historic district includes 93 buildings that are listed with the National Register of Historic Places, and there are 18 landmarks that are also registered. 'THE OLD MERRILL HOME' On a quiet corner property on a developed street that features widely-spaced homes, tall trees and big, delightful views, stands the original old home on that part of Banner Mountain. Behind a berm that provides privacy and seclusion, the cabin-like exterior opens to wonderful views and a roomy, welcoming retreat. This remains a comfortable home that is lived in when no guests are in residence, either by the owners or by caretakers. When guests check in, the caretakers are available nearby. Important: When you inquire, please give us a bit of information about your party and your stay, so that we can get a sense of who our guests are! FOR WHOM? The home is great for 2 or 3 couples, a family, a 'guys/girls weekend' . . . or a retreat, family reunion or wedding party. The dining room could anchor a family get-together, gourmet dinner, meeting of partners or a board planning session. GROUPS and PARTIES? Entertain, get memorably married, or hold a party at the property. Our rustic meadow and spacious deck have each accommodated many a party, picnic and celebration. For downhill skiing, reach Sugar Bowl and Boreal Ridge in about an hour on good highways. Our house is somewhat below the winter snow line most years; you may easily depart from your snow-free vacation retreat to the snow area. (But we DO get winter snow at times!) SLEEP! The master bedroom has a king-size bed and the bathroom can be closed off and made private to form a suite. A second bedroom, with a double bed, is right by another 3/4 bathroom (shower, no tub). A door closes off both the bath and the bedroom from the rest of the house. The third bedroom has a double bed; it is between the living room and the master bedroom and bathroom. NOTE: This bedroom is not entirely private, as it is the only indoor passage between the master suite and the living/main room. Ask us if you need further clarification! SIT OUTSIDE! Dining out is such a treat in Nevada City and Grass Valley, with a variety of wonderful restaurants; just check out the local sites. Local taxi services provide safe transport! BRING YOUR PET! Well-trained pets are welcome, but our insurance prohibits us from hosting breeds known for aggression. Be aware that there is no fence -- only strips of forest on the perimeter of the property. Also, there is no pet door. SEE DEER! Deer come and go, and you may well look out and see a big buck staring at you from down on the lawn! WASH CLOTHES! A washer and dryer are available in the utility room. CHECK-IN, CHECK-OUT TIMES: . . . are flexible; just let us know what works for you. HISTORY: This is our family home dating from the 1940's, when Al and Peg Merrill built the core of of a 'log cabin' retreat. Al was born right down the hill in Gold Flat, in 1909. He became a successful Nevada City real estate broker and business leader, while his wife Peg volunteered in the community. Their only son, Mike is now the home's owner, with his wife Maureen. See Al's old office at 312 Broad Street, now the home of Gold Mountain Trading Co., a beautiful store and a great place to shop! Adding to their cabin in unpretentious phases, the Merrills created this charming old-new home with a big-sky view. WHEEL CHAIRS? A person can get into and around the house in a wheelchair. Assistance may be needed, for some, over the exterior door thresholds. Please inquire. WHEN YOU INQUIRE Don't forget to tell us a bit about your party and your trip. We sometimes get inquiries with no information at all, which doesn't work so well! We are happy to welcome you at an affordable price in a lovely setting that was meant to be shared. Please reserve with 50% down of the total due. Remainder due 45 days before arrival Deposits are fully refundable up to 45 days before arrival; 50% is refundable thereafter except no refunds for cancellations within 14 days before arrival. However, if we can re-book your cancelled time for the same amount, we will refund your deposit 100%. Your deposit, less any damage or excessive cleaning fees, is refunded shortly after departure. Thank you! Less than 10 minutes' drive to charming Nevada City and Grass Valley, this grown-up log cabin has big views, and is close to Gold Country attractions including dining, skiing, shopping, entertainment, antique shops, golf, rivers, gold-panning, and historical sites.

We invite our guests to join us upstairs in the morning for organic coffee, tea, juice, and breakfast treats. We love to share all the wonderful things happening in Nevada County - there's ALWAYS something going on: Art, Music, Nature, Wellness, Sustainability, Spirituality, Food/Restaurants! We have literature about restaurants, music venues, events, etc. inside the secretary in the Guest Suite, and are always available for personal recommendations. The NeighborhoodWhat is special about Banner Mountain? We are at elevation 3626 feet, so generally about 10 degrees cooler than Nevada City and Grass Valley in the summer, and we sometimes get snow in the winter. Our 'neighborhood' is in the forest of mostly pine, cedar, fir, oaks and some madrone and manzanita, with lots of birds and wildlife - even an occasional bear. We are about 10 minutes from Scott's Flat Reservoir (swimming, boating, picnicking, hiking, and just plain breathtaking views) Both Nevada City and Grass Valley have many great organic restaurants, wineries, entertainment and music, art, cultural events - year 'round. Community is BIG here, and EVERYONE is friendly and welcoming. Getting AroundBest to have a car to explore Nevada County, the Yuba River, and the mountains - and to get into town for amazing shopping, food, entertainment. Easy access to Hwy 49/20 and Hwy 80 via Hwy 174. One and a half hours from Sacramento International Airport. One hour to Truckee and North Lake Tahoe. We have plenty of parking on our property. Other Things to NoteWe are conscious about Sustainability and supporting our local artisans and economy. We have free wifi, but it's not lightening-fast. (Remember, you are in the mountains.) We are a dog-friendly family with our sweet girl, Bella, having free access to our home (not the Guest Suite), so if you have problems with dogs, our Mountain Retreat is probably not a good fit. We prefer booking a two-night minimum stay. Contact us for rates for overnight or weekly bookings. We collect/pay 10% Nevada County Transient Tax (Hotel Tax) to support our community. The SpaceThis is a sunny, serene and magical place for relaxation, recreation and retreating. Sip wine on the deck or enjoy a cocktail, but this is not a party house. :-) Guest AccessThis is my home, which I make available to guests from time to time while I am traveling. Please treat my home and land with love and respect. It is a very sacred and special place. The house isn't child proofed, so it is not a good fit for children under 10. Enjoy the whole house, as well as the deck and lush yard. You can also swim in Deer Creek, which you can see from many rooms in the house. PLEASE NOTE: The small hot tub in not for guest use. It is an older model and doesn't have the filtering capacity for guest use. There are 3 bedrooms, the master has a king size bed and the other two bedrooms have queen beds; the 4th bedroom is a 2nd floor loft overlooking the living room. The loft bedroom is spacious, light and bright, with one or two twin beds in it. Interaction with GuestsPlease don’t hesitate to call me if you have any problems, questions or concerns. You can call or text my mobile phone at anytime, day or night. (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). The NeighborhoodWalk to beautiful, quaint downtown Nevada City! Getting AroundThere is plenty of parking here. Other Things to NoteSwimming You can wade in the creek right by the meadow. If you want to swim in deeper water, simply head downstream a short distance. You will find places to swim, and even a large swimming hole on the other side of the dam a short distance downstream. The creek is a public water way, so enjoy! Yuba River The closest river access is at the Hwy 49 Bridge. You can swim right at the bridge, or hike a short distance to Hoyt’s Crossing, which is a really great spot. You can even skinny dip there. Good Eating My personal favorite restaurants are New Moon Cafe, Lefty’s Grill (right down the street with a great creekside patio), Sopa Thai (with a great patio) and California Organics (there is a small health food store there too). There is also a great health food co-op in Grass Valley called The Briar Patch. They have a nice deli and eating area outside.
