The SpaceThe cottage is a studio apartment with a mini kitchenette: microwave, small refrigerator, convection toaster oven, Krueg, and a Nuwave induction burner. There is a full size sleeper couch with a memory foam top and a twin size ottoman hide-a-bed. The bathroom is fully stocked as well as the necessities for use of the kitchenette.
The cottage has a drop leaf table with 2 stools, a TV with an excellent HD antenna, and a DVD player that will allow you to access your netflix, Hulu, etc accounts.
The main yard includes a double swing like grandma’s, a fire pit, gazebo, and a beautiful waterfall with pond. This is also Peebody’s yard. Peebody is a Poochon. He loves people and will happily share the yard. The fire pit is available upon request.
The Chicken Orchard is a separate yard that has clean chicken free patio seating with a view of the hens, orchard and the wildlife it attracts. The “ladies” (chickens) are friendly and will come up to the fence to greet you.

Interaction with GuestsWe are usually outside and either working in or enjoying the yards. You are always welcome to join us in either yard if we are out. Since there are 2 back yards you can also enjoy privacy if you choose.
I will enter your space if invited. I am more than happy to take a break and have a chat.
There is a binder in the cottage with information about attractions, restaurants and fun things to do. Maps are included and again I am more than happy to share information about these wonderful places.
Mr. Peebody is a PooChon and rules the main yard. He is friendly and gets very excited. His hyper personality will mellow within minutes. Please do not feed him scraps. The NeighborhoodEscalon is an older rural farming community. It is surrounded by almond and fruit orchards. Our neighborhood is lined with trees and each home has its own unique bungalow style. Most were built during the early 1900's.
There are no streetlights so you can stare at the stars on a clear night. That’s almost every summer night and a lot of winter nights too.
We live near a high school so it can get loud on a Friday night home football game.
There is a fantastic sandwich shop and a home made ice cream shop. Both are less than a 2 minute walk away. We also have a great hamburger joint and a really good Mexican restaurant.
Rite Aid is also 1 street over and 2 blocks away, again less than 2 minute walk.
Our quaint little main street boasts of 3 antique/vintage shops, one is **Wonderland another the Green Pea and finally MT. There is also a tiny kitchen gadget shop - Butler's Pantry and the Escalon Museum.
Did we mention you can get to almost any attraction, mountains, lakes, ocean beaches etc in about 2 hours or less. We're in the middle of everything. Getting AroundSan Francisco is 100 miles west of us and Yosemite is 100 miles east from here. There are activities nearby: lakes, reservoirs, skiing, kayaking and rafting excursions, Gallo Center of Arts in Modesto, Columbia State Park, Central Valley wineries, Old Sacramento & much more.
There is no public transportation in Escalon. Amtrak is 20 minutes away. Uber drivers are close by. The nearest BART station which runs in the Bay Area is approximately a 45 minute drive. BART makes city travel a less stressful experience. Other Things to NoteYou are welcome to pick fruit from the orchard when in season as well as the herbs growing there. Occasionally you can collect your own fresh eggs.
Linens are cleaned and replaced after each guest's stay. That includes bed linens, allergy etc protective pillow cases and mattress pads, towels, wash cloths etc. If you stay 1 week or more please note that we will provide new bedding and towels once each week.
Also, guests staying a week or more will have access to the washer and dryer.
You will find chocolates or baked goodies, fruit or juice for vegetarians, in the cottage on the first day of your stay with us.
* There is NO maid service.
** Guests who stay 5 days or longer are required to do housekeeping (for example -keeping floors clean, bathroom - toilet etc and wiping down counters, table etc.) There are cleaning supplies, vacuum, mop etc. in the apartment for you to use. Treat it like or better than your home.
*** In the spring and summer months we and some neighbors, start working in the yards around 6:30 am-ish . That would include lawnmowers etc.
