The SpaceYour room has a comfy queen bed, private deck with canyon and forest views. The second room, separated by a hallway and bathroom, has two twin beds - you may select whichever room you prefer. The bathroom has a single sink, water closet and shower. There's a separate, private entrance so you can come and go as you please without worrying about disturbing us. The 900 + sq. ft. guest suite is located downstairs from the main house, you'll have a quiet and private area all to yourselves with a media room, library and outdoor fireplace, or come on up to join us and share our hospitality. The house is built to maximize the views and blend in with the woodland surroundings. The 5-acre property has majestic redwood cathedrals and a peek of the ocean, sunsets are spectacular! Your closest neighbors will be quail, wild turkeys, cottontail rabbits, raccoons, owls, deer, coyote and our buddy 'Bob' , the faithful bobcat who performs gopher patrol. If you are looking for scenic beauty and a pleasant ambiance, the stillness of the Bonny Doon night will calm your soul. We enjoy hosting visitors from all over the world. It gives us great joy to share the glorious Central Coast, there are so many fun, interesting things to do...beach combing, biking, hiking, windsurfing, antiquing, golfing, wine tasting; plus so many places to visit, the amazing UCSC campus is 15 minutes away, Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the charming seaside town of Capitola, numerous State Parks (inc. Big Basin and Henry Cowell), Roaring Camp railroad in Felton, the quaint north coast beach villages of Davenport, Pescadero and San Gregorio. San Francisco to the north, Monterey, Carmel and Big Sur to the south are excellent day trips. And if you want to play golf, Dick knows all the courses. Our friends joke that in our next lives we will come back as tour guides. My husband and I can put together a family style dinner, pour a glass of local wine, prepare a modest breakfast, pack a lunch to go, whatever works for you. You can BBQ if you want. We travel a lot and we know how important it is to feel comfortable and to be happy in new surroundings. We look forward to meeting you.

The SpaceThe 'Swanky Westside Studio' is my printing and design studio! Walk to the beach, the boardwalk, or downtown, and come home to a safe and quiet street, tucked away in one of the most desirable neighborhoods in town :) Live like a local behind the home of 3 young professionals, happy to recommend great local spots to eat and drink :) It's important to note that the "Swanky Studio" does not have kitchen! You are welcome to pop in and heat up a cup of tea on our stove or use the full barbeque in the big backyard! Looking forward to hosting you here in Santa Cruz! Also important to note, as a registered listing - the city has required us to collect a city "hotel" tax which is $16.50 or $33 for 2 nights. Don't forget to bring the city tax at check in! Interaction with GuestsI like to meet guests when possible for check in :) I am available at all times for questions, and love to have a little visit sometimes, but also give guests their privacy out of respect :) The NeighborhoodGreat little family neighborhood, very quiet. (Not a party space, please no jam sessions :))) Getting AroundAN IDEAL LOCATION for TRAVELERS We are a 10 minute walk to downtown or Westcliff Beaches. The Boardwalk is close too! Feel free to leave the car and walk around the town. You are welcome to bring bikes, or you can rent them 2 blocks away :) We are also a few blocks from the bus line to UCSC Other Things to NoteAt the end of the visit, guests are asked to clean up after themselves with quick tidy and swiffer - that way I don't have to charge a cleaning fee for this spacious and swanky space!

You can hear the sea lions, and on very quiet nights you can hear the waves! In the morning you see the sunrise from the bed. The walkability of our spot makes it essential Santa Cruz. We are one mile from the beach and boardwalk and a quarter mile from downtown. The beach is a short 5 minute bike ride or 20 minute walk. Even closer to home, walk a few blocks to Emily’s Bakery, Sabieng Thai, or Taqueria Vallarta. We are also only a few blocks from an organic grocery and health store. Everything you want to see in Santa Cruz is a walk or bike ride away - including downtown, the beach, West Cliff, tacos, an organic grocery store and a plethora of coffee shops. The SpaceA redwood-floored sun-filled, shuttered bedroom with arched windows and gabled ceiling in a unique 1860s home in Santa Cruz. My unique 'Carpenter Gothic' is one of the earliest houses built by settlers in the mid 19th. century. Both room and adjacent bathroom (shower, toilet, washbasin) are fully remodelled and immaculately clean on the second floor of my home. The guest room is private, quiet, and has its own entrance staircase. It also offers panoramic views of the Monterey Bay in one of Santa Cruz's oldest, safest, quietest neighborhoods. Walking distance to downtown through other historic areas. 1/2 acre of mature gardens and an 'orchidarium' surround this unique house on the hill. The main bus line to UCSC has a stop 3 minutes' walk away; the main terminus is a 15" walk - all downhill! Nearby attractions include the Santa Cruz Mission, its park and all the old historic downtown replete with Victorian homes a large variety of coffee shops and restaurants. The bus route goes straight up to the UCSC Main campus; the bike ride up the hill takes about 20 minutes and granny gears! The Space*Please read the details in it's entirety. Probably ALL of you questions will be answered here. *We prefer the weekends to be 2 day rentals. If you are looking for one, you can send a request. *Please include the extra person for anyone over 2 years old. Thanks!! Enjoy a completely private cottage detached from our home that is driving or walking distance to the beach, downtown, boardwalk and the desirable westside wineries, restaurants and bakeries. We are also close to awesome mountain biking trails, the boardwalk, downtown, the best surf, road riding, running trails (pogonip) and much more! The cottage has a separate kitchen (brand new!), bathroom and one large spacious room with high ceilings and everything you need! Room Features • Brand new comfortable queen bed • Private bathroom with walk in shower • High speed internet connection (if you have problems, please message me) • Keurig coffee maker or french press, coffee, tea assortment • Flat-screen plasma TV w/ basic cable • Full refrigerator, stove, toaster oven • Hairdryer, shampoo and conditioner • Complimentary neighborhood parking pass • Beach chairs on request • Eco friendly products • Couch and chairs for your comfort -Washer and Dryer (washer is a front loader and gets some mildew on gasket, still works fine) **Some of the mildew will NEVER come off. It's not bad, but does have a little odor. I clean it frequently with "refresh" and a scrub of the gasket. It needs to remain open after use for the water to dry. -There is a modern, new pull out couch for guests. **there is only one bed in the cottage, the sofa bed is set up for guests over 2. **Note: again the kitchen and the bathroom are separate and the main living area is one, spacious room. If there are more than 2 people, you will all be sleeping in the same room. Guest AccessThe main yard is shared with our family and includes a swing set. You do have a semi-private backyard, that we don't go in to. Interaction with GuestsThe cottage is set up for you to come and go as you please. We interact with you as much as you want (or as little). It's set up to be self sustainable. The cottage is on the property of the main house and we are generally present during your stay. We are a family of four, so you will often see us roaming around our back yard playing, gardening or BBQing. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is quaint and quiet and is located in the desirable Westside of Santa Cruz. Downtown is just a 10 minute beautiful walk. We are located minutes from the UCSC campus as well! Getting AroundThe bus stops are very close... Other Things to NoteThe city of Santa Cruz requires that all Airbnb hosts collect an 11% Transient Occupancy Tax (same as hotels). As Airbnb at this time does not have a way in which to collect this tax as part of your fees, I ask my guests upon departure, to please leave 11% of their room charge, either by cash or check, in order to pay this tax to the city of Santa Cruz. I apologize ahead for the inconvenience. Thank you!

Interaction with GuestsWe will be in the main house during your stay. We are happy to share information about Santa Cruz. We are generally social and relaxed people. We do have a large and exceedingly friendly golden retriever mix dog, Lyle. He spends a good deal of time in our fenced yard and you will be sure to meet him coming and going. If you have any questions or needs or would like to chat we are available but will not be intrusive during your visit. The NeighborhoodThis neighborhood is known as the banana belt because it's the sunniest spot in Santa Cruz! We are located in easy walking distance from several great local restaurants like the Crepe Place (best place to see live music most nights of the week) and Lillian's (Italian restaurant, extremely popular). There's also great sushi (Akira) and Thai food (Real Thai-delivers!). It's a 5 minute walk to the Buttery Bakery (amazing pastries, coffee, brunch) and to Shopper's Corner (best local market). It's a quiet residential neighborhood without the seedy elements of Santa Cruz but still with quick and easy access to beaches, boardwalk and downtown. Getting AroundWe are close to several bus lines. It's very easy to get around on foot, by bike or by car. Other Things to NoteWe are musicians and occasionally have band practice on the property. The Space Perhaps the most attractive feature of our home is that the comforts of a well-appointed rural home in a forested setting are combined with the amenities of a world class university, a wonderful outdoor life, and a vibrant city - all close at hand. The Town Clock in Santa Cruz is an easy walk or bike ride - at least for those younger than we are. All the outdoor pastimes for which Santa Cruz is known are near by and can be easily scheduled.. Guest Access(We can accommodate only two persons in luxurious comfort. If you have three persons in your party - the third person will have a comfortable couch in the Living Room! There is a separate entrance from the Living Room to your shared private bath.) Guests have access to: Living Room: Library, HiFi, DVD, (No TV), WiFi, ROKU Kitchen: Fully equipped - will share condiments, etc.. Washer and Dryer Locked Garage Entry and Room Keys, Tramway Remote Control Vegetable Garden Petting our mellow dog, Lena Feeding chickens, gathering eggs All the wonderful Santa Cruz outdoor activities: -Cycling The ride is level to downtown and beaches -Hiking: Santa Cruz Mountain Trails on hand -Swimming (but cold!) -Surfing (use a wet suit!) Interaction with GuestsDepends! We try to recognize and respect guests' wishes -- including those who long for a little privacy and respite from interaction! We often prepare and share breakfast - we are not much into chatter early on. Later , if common interests appear - and our guests like to discuss them as much as we do .... well then. The NeighborhoodWhat we appreciate about where we live- The quiet, the morning birds, the sound of river when running high- The green around our home -- left to its own ways so much that only part of it could be called "garden". The few lights we see at night are from neighbor homes across the river. Coming home from town we watch for each new crop blooming in the organic farm between the road and the river. Sometimes the orchards we pass are filled with fruit. Many neighbors on the way have wonderful flowers -- especially the garden with the cacti holding down the corner. Getting AroundPublic Transit is sketchy - depending on where you go. The closest public bus stop is a mile away -- but the transit center, from which all buses leave, is less than two miles away. Buses radiate from there all across Santa Cruz and our companion towns Soquel, Capitola, Scotts Valley, Aptos.(URL HIDDEN)From the Transit Center there are frequent express buses to San Jose(URL HIDDEN)From San Jose there are trains to Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles,. etc(URL HIDDEN)San Jose International Airport is a major terminal for flights nation- Other Things to NoteBreakfast-- Tea, coffee, latte- Full kitchen available to share(URL HIDDEN) Separate refrigerator for long-term guests.

The SpaceThe beauty of the Santa Cruz mountains awaits you! Our home is situated exceptionally well, balancing accessibility with seclusion. Ten minutes to Felton's quaint main street, fifteen minutes to the beach, twenty minutes to downtown Santa Cruz, ninety minutes to San Francisco up scenic Highway 1. But when you are sipping tea or a beer on the porch, you'll hear nothing but the hummingbirds and the wind in the trees. We have two bedrooms for rent in our home. This listing is for one of the rooms - check our other listing if you have a larger party and would like to rent the other room as well, or you need other dates available. Both rooms have large, comfortable king sized beds with European-style goose down duvets and electric bed warmers for cold mountain nights. There is a large bathroom downstairs for your use, shared between the two bedrooms and stocked with shampoo and other toiletries. There is a coffee and tea bar where you can make drinks, but there is NO KITCHEN. The bedrooms are both downstairs, while the master bedroom and main living area are upstairs. The upstairs is private, and there is no kitchen access for guests. If we are at home and not too busy we like to make cookies or cocktails for our guests, or invite you to share breakfast with us. Excellent high-speed wireless access throughout the house, though occasionally it needs to be reset. Parking is not a problem. We are in the mountains and the drive can be difficult if you are not used to steep winding roads! It's dark at night and GPS doesn't always work. We share our home with a friendly dog and two cats. The dog is a calm Australian Shepherd /English Setter mix who doesn't bark or jump up. He enjoys new people and loves belly rubs. Our grey cat spends the majority of his time lounging and prowling outside, and the calico cat goes wherever she pleases :-) We are always trying to make our lifestyle more sustainable, and installed a full set of solar panels last year! The house is nearly 100% solar powered, and the hot tub solar-heated. In the winter we use a wood stove that burns what we've cleared from our land. We also line-dry our sheets and towels, compost, and recycle. Guest AccessWithin the house, the two bedrooms, bathroom, and coffee bar are "guest space". We keep the upstairs (kitchen, living room, master bedroom) private, but on occasion can accommodate special requests for kitchen use. The washer, dryer, clothesline, and iron are downstairs and you may use them. - we always encourage green living and use of the clothesline! It works wonderfully. The lower deck has chairs and tables, and guests can enjoy access to the garden, hot tub, and endless hiking trails through redwoods and past a natural spring. Our 8+ acres backs up to Henry Cowell State Park. Soak in the hot tub while enjoying an unobstructed view of the stars! Interaction with GuestsWe are often happy to hang out and chat, or to set you up and give you your privacy, as you prefer. Some of our best airbnb memories have been impromptu dinner gatherings in the garden under the mimosa tree - if you see us outside, come over and join us! We have lived all over the Bay Area and are full of good ideas for places to visit, and we love sharing stories. While we also live in the house, you won't always see much of us, as we can be busy - if we are not at home to welcome you, we will make our best effort to communicate and set everything up so you feel comfortable. We host with airbnb for the joy of it, because we love meeting interesting people and sharing our beautiful home with appreciative guests. The NeighborhoodBonny Doon is a charming community in the mountains, blending serious old-timers with vacation-home implants, and intentionally keeping itself "rural and natural." The people here consciously cultivate a sense of community and are genuinely friendly. The beauty of the Santa Cruz mountains is phenomenal. Our home is centrally located between several state parks: Big Basin, Henry Cowell (to which we are adjacent), Wilder Ranch and Waddell Beach. The beach town of Davenport is fifteen minutes away, and boasts a good restaurant (the Roadhouse), a locally-famous cafe/bakery, frequent live music, and a sprinkling of shops, all with Pacific views. The mountain towns of Felton, Ben Lomond, and Boulder Creek area also nearby and quaint. Nearby Santa Cruz is full of charms that include and transcend its tourist-spot reputation! Don't miss going to the beach - the boardwalk for tourist tradition, or colorful Capitola, or one of many secluded coves such as Bonny Doon Beach. Enjoy the chic Pacific Avenue Mall, an array of thrift/vintage shops, a vibrant music scene, and some great restaurants. Getting AroundThe bus line runs on Empire Grade just a quarter mile away down a private road, and you are welcome to investigate it. Having private transport is highly recommended, though. Parking is simple and abundant. The nearest airport is Monterey, which is quite nice, though it's small - SFO is just over an hour away. Rental cars are abundantly available there. Taxis and Uber are difficult to find in this area. Other Things to NoteWe do charge $20 extra per person over 2 people, including babies and children. The super-comfy king size bed is large enough to accommodate 2 adults and a child, but three adults can be a stretch! Sometimes we have a foam mattress available to put on the floor, but be warned that it's not the most comfortable. Please check with us if you plan on bringing a young child, as the rooms are right next to each other and we want all our guests to have a good experience!

The SpaceEnjoy healthy mountain living in a park-like setting -- ten acres of native forests, meadows, a beautiful garden and a pond! Relax in our charming two bedroom cottage, with a newly-remodeled, fully equipped kitchen, two comfortable bedrooms (one with queen sized bed, the other with two twins), a new bathroom with shower, and cozy living and dining rooms. We provide linen on the beds and four sets of towels. You get your own private garden patio next to the forest, with gas BBQ and 6-seat outdoor table. Your entrance is a nice new porch with rocking chair. Our water is tested clean -- delicious well water from our property. For our cool mountain nights we can heat the cottage using the wood stove or the hallway gas heater. The mountains usually don't get very hot so we don't have air conditioning, but we do have ceiling fans. The cottage sits inside a residential compound including two other units, a large beautiful central garden and an orchard. Kids will enjoy looking at our chickens and ducks, but please do not open the coop. We have one friendly resident dog (an Australian cattle dog) named Hazel. Because she is excitable, we ask that you don't bring other pets. Please don't feed Hazel or let Hazel outside the deer fence. We have a pond on our property outside the fence that you are welcome to walk around. Please be careful not to fall in the pond -- it is deep and is dangerous to small children or non-swimmers. Please don't fish or use the rowboats. There are many wild animals around the property, including many birds, deer, rabbits, bobcats, coyotes, and mountain lions, altho the deer fence tends to keep most of them out of the residential area. We are in a rural area with only Verizon cellular coverage (we have a Verizon minitower on an adjacent unit) but no other carriers. We don't have a TV or cable in the cottage. We recently put a Wifi extender into the Cottage so the signal should be very good there now. We also have a dedicated OOMA telephone in the Cottage for your use. We have a beehive at the back of the orchard, so please stay away from those white boxes! Enjoy your stay! Guest AccessYour own private patio and BBQ; the central garden; walk around the pond. Kitchenware, full gas range, black granite counters, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, coffee maker (including ground coffee, creamer and sugar), and large refrigerator. Interaction with GuestsWe will leave you alone if you like, but Ed lives on the property is available for advice and help if needed. The NeighborhoodWe are next door to the tasting room for a good local winery, and there are many more wineries in the area. 1 mile up the road is an ecological preserve with great hiking. It is 3 miles down the mountain to a nice beach. The roads around us don't have a lot of cars so the area is great for bicycling. Go north on Highway One and you are at Davenport, an old whaling town with a nice restaurant and another nice beach. Just further north on the coast is Ano Nuevo State Park, where the giant elephant seals raise their babies on the beach each spring. Also close by are Big Basin State Park (with old growth redwoods), Henry Cowell State Park and many other great parks. And of course, we are only 13 miles north of the wonderful town of Santa Cruz. Getting AroundWe are in a rural area so guests will need to have a car. Other Things to NoteThe closest grocery stores are in Felton (New Leaf) and Santa Cruz (Safeway, New Leaf and Costco). If you plan to go by the pond in the evening, bring mosquito repellent.
