Excellent therapy post a day at the slopes! Near the cabin are wonderful cross country skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, mountain biking, and dog friendly trails along the rim, as well as a beautiful meadow in summer and winter (Paige Meadows). You can walk/hike, snowshoe, or drive to the trail head. Down the hill from the cabin is the Tahoe Park Beach Homeowner's Association with BBQ grills, picnic tables, volleyball nets, and access to launch canoes and kayaks. In the spring and summer, the area has a beautifully manicured lawn with brilliant flora. Approximately 25 yards south of the homeowner's beach is Sunnyside Lodge where you can walk, swim, or boat to have amazing lakefront dining and /or cocktails at the lakefront bar. Sunnyside is also a lively spot in the winter for après skiing, with a cozy winter lodge atmosphere. Approximately 2 miles from the cabin is the Fanny Bridge over the Truckee River, the only outlet from Lake Tahoe. This is also the entrance to Tahoe City, with quaint boutiques, homegrown coffee shops, historic landmarks, galleries, the Cobblestone Cinema, and the Commons Beach Amphitheater, which is just along Lake Tahoe's gorgeous shoreline. For the best cup of coffee and pastry Tahoe has to offer, stop by Tahoe House Bakery just before you get down to the Fanny Bridge. A modern grocery and supply store is also just beyond the Fanny Bridge. A bike trail, a bike rental shop, a raft launch, a river rafting company, a ski shop, and several riverfront restaurants are also available adjacent to the Fanny Bridge. Locals launch and jump on their own rafts and cruise down the river until floating (or surging depending on the annual snow melt) into the River Ranch, a historic lodge on the banks of the Truckee River with beautiful river and mountain views, and just at the entrance to Alpine Meadows Resort. Although there are many accessible ski areas, the closet ski areas to the cabin are Squaw Valley Resort (approximately 8 miles), Alpine Meadows and Homewood (approximately 5 miles in opposite directions), and Northstar (approximately 15 miles). The North Shore is a perfect Tahoe destination, with an abundance of summer and winter activities, and endless scenic treasures! Enjoy!

The SpaceLocation, location, location! You can walk to Sunnyside Lodge (lakefront bar and dining), Firesign Cafe (great breakfasts & lunches) and our Tahoe Park Homeowners' Beach. This private beach is only a block down the street. The homeowners' beach has 3 acres of lake front and lots of amenities, like 2 docks, BBQs, picnic tables, and bathrooms. Guest AccessYou have exclusive access to the entire cabin and the three large lots on which it is built. You have a gate entry card to get you into the private homeowners' beach, just a short walk down the street. There is snow removal service in the winter. We have an annual contract with Tahoe Park Snow Job. Interaction with GuestsI live and work in Novato, so I will not be present. The housekeeper, Bertha, lives in King's Beach, so she would be the one to help out with any problem. The NeighborhoodWe love that the cabin's location--close to two awesome restaurants, and not far (2 miles) from Tahoe City, with even more restaurants. World Class ski resorts are close by, too. Homewood is 4 miles down Highway 89, and you can be at Alpine Meadows or Squaw Valley in about 15-20 minutes. There is also Northstar, and Mt. Rose, and Incline. Love that the house has a huge outdoor space. It was built on a three lot parcel back in 1940. Love that our private homeowners' beach is just a block down the street, too. Can be in Reno in less than an hour. Getting AroundThere is a bus system TART (Tahoe Area Rapid Transit), but would assume you would have your car. We do not provide bicycles, but you may want to bring them in the summer. There is a beautiful bike path that runs along the lake, and also back to Truckee. Other Things to NoteThere is a short list of things we need you to do when you check out, so that the water pipes don't freeze and break before Bee Tostado and her staff come to clean. Also, over the last couple years, bear break-ins have become a concern. We had our first bear break-in in 50 years of owning the cabin in September 2012, and since then, have had a total of four. Again, there is a short list of things we ask you to do to lessen the chance of any more break-ins. The most important thing is not to leave any food in the refrigerator, freezer or anywhere in the house when you check out, as apparently, they can smell through the walls. The rent includes the 10% Placer County Transient Occupancy Tax. Cleaning is included in the rent. The house will be clean for your arrival, and cleaned after you check out. There is no housekeeping provided during your stay.

The SpaceIn the heart of Sunnyside, Pine Cone is a short walk to our private HOA beach and the best brunch at the lake. Leave your city-slicker granite counter tops at home – we have what’s important: our Saturday Supper dessert cabinet contains an ice cream maker, sundae bar, fondue, and of course s’mores. (And s’meeces, the Pine Cone S’mores 3.0) Plus of course everything else you need to make yourself at home: fully equipped kitchen, laundry, etc. etc. The basics & bonuses: 3 bedrooms sleep 15 people. Dogs welcome! Wifi, printer, and standard office supplies included for you workerbees. Shampoo, toothpaste, hair dryer basics provided (though ironing board and such fancy big-city accoutrements are not – this is Tahoe!). Deck, BBQ, beach blankets, board games, DVD player, dozens of DVDs, puzzles, cookbook collection for your Saturday supper planning, beach books, a guitar, and more. The beach: we'll give you a key to the private homeowners association beach, featuring volleyball, basketball, and horseshoe courts; green grass and shady benches; clean bathrooms (very important); weddings to crash all weekend long; and Tahoe’s finest skipping stones. (Forget how to skip rocks? You ARE in need of a getaway!) The neighborhood: Sunnyside is hot for good reason! A few blocks from the docks, we’re the one spot on this side of the lake that’s walking distance from not one but two rockin’ brunch places. While removed from the mean streets (ha!) of Tahoe City, when you forget something at the grocery store we’re only 6 minutes down the road. South Lake has curling and all (message Colleen if you want to try), but it's Vegas compared to this: North Tahoe is casino-free pockets of quiet cabins from another era, with more dogs and kids littering the middle of the street than cars. Oh, and it’s an easy 3.5hrs from SF, assuming you miss traffic and drive like we do. The activities: you really plan more than brunch, beach & wine? Ambitious. Okay, fine: we’ve got the hook-up for that too. We’ll tell you where to rent a boat, find the good hikes, and hop the local watering holes. Look us up on the map and you’ll see: we’re close to biking, river rafting, sledding, skiing, and snowboarding (Squaw, Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Homewood et al.), the Tahoe Rim Trail, and all that outdoorsy goodness. Plus when you get here, you’ll find our binder of local tips that could only be amassed by a family that’s been here 28 years. Please note a 1-week minimum is required for Christmas and New Year's. If you'd like to visit, please ensure you have a profile with picture and tell us a bit about the group that's coming and what you're hoping for in your stay.

The SpaceBeautiful and sunny 2 story charming rustic Tahoe wood cabin/house at what we think is the best location in Tahoe City, California a few homes away from Lake Tahoe. Park the car at the house and walk around instead of being stuck in traffic. Even better hop on a bike and use the bike trails 3 houses away. It is very walkable! Summer: About 6 houses from the lake (Sunnyside Resort Beach Bar Dock), a few houses from the paved bike path, Westshore Market (delicious sandwiches, pastries, gelato) and Firesign Cafe (best breakfast in Tahoe) and Spoon Restaurant. Leave the car at the house, avoid the summertime traffic/parking fees, and walk to Sunnyside resort/beach, Firesign Cafe, Kilner Park, paved bike paths, etc during summer. Walk to Westshore Sports to rent paddleboards, kayaks, boats, jetskis, etc. Tube the Truckee River. Stroll along Tahoe City's cute shops, restaurants, and bars. Heating: the cabin's main source of heat is the fireplace in the living room which is the best fireplace I have ever had. The upstairs rooms have plug in heaters and the dining room has a wall heater. The people sleeping downstairs may want to keep the fireplace going to maintain the heat downstairs. We haven't had to use heaters during the Spring or Summer. Opposite of the bad traffic from Truckee/east Tahoe City to the ski resorts. You can also drive to Northstar, Sugarbowl, Diamond Peak, and Mount Rose ski resorts. The best location in Lake Tahoe, 4 houses from Lake Tahoe, about 6 houses from Sunnyside Resort(lake access). Walk to Sunnyside Market, Firesign Cafe, Spoon Restaurant, Westshore Sports, Kilner Park, restaurant, Sunnyside beach. Bike to main drag of Tahoe City and Truckee River. Short drive to Emerald Bay. Live music and sunset dinners at Sunnyside on many days. This is a great year round North Shore location at a very affordable price. Drive to South Lake Tahoe Harrahs and Harvey's casinos or to the Lake Tahoe area casinos such as Crystal Bay casino or CalNeva. You can also drive to Reno (shopping, casinos, pho, buffets, shoes, Circus Circus). Bike/drive to Truckee River and River Ranch where there is tubing during the summer. Getting AroundTahoe Bus TART (bus stop a few houses away), Tahoe TAXI, bike paths, walking hiking trails, tubing at Truckee River (summer if there is enough water) Other Things to NoteOur dream house was purchased in 2014 because we wanted a place for our toddler daughter to actually have a yard to play in and experience the outdoors unlike our small apartment (aka "shoebox") in the City. It's great that she can play on the large property, build a snowman, gather pine cones, ride her scooter, enjoy biking the bike path around the lake with us, and we can walk to the lake. The house has a large front yard and huge backyard away from the street since it is a fenced property. The gated property shared with the other house is almost half an acre! We could not ask for a better location. We think it is the best location in all of Tahoe. We have the ability to walk to Sunnyside and the lake is only a few houses away. Amazing world class ski resorts are only a short drive away. There are very few places in Tahoe where we can walk to a store, restaurants and the lake while being so close to the ski resorts. It is the only home we own so please take care of it so that our family, friends, and guests can enjoy it for years to come. We love this place and hope that you will too. Please contact us immediately if there is an emergency or damage. If there is anything missing or item you think we should get please let us know. Our cozy place is a work in progress (not the 4 seasons or Hyatt) but we hope to get a hot tub and other cool items in the next few years. FIREPLACE: 1) Please be careful around the fireplace since it is very hot. The handle gets very hot so please use the oven mitt on top of the fireplace. Bring some firesticks to help get the fire started. 2) The flume is always open, sometimes some smoke will come in the house until the hot air pushes out the cold air in the chimney. The trick is to light something small like some paper or a fire stick to get some hot air going up the chimney then once the cold air is out it will start to suck the flame and smoke in. The fireplace works very well for us once we get a fire going. We have used it during a heavy storm and had no issues at all. Please let me know if you have any questions. NEIGHBORS: Please respect our neighbors.
