The Space*Guests have exclusive access to everything on the second floor and near-exclusive access to everything on the first floor of the house (approximately 1700 square feet) The basement and garage are the only inaccessible parts of the house. (I work as a special effect make-up artist for television, so the garage is my studio and I live in a studio apartment in the basement.) I do not have a private entrance to my basement apartment, so you might see me coming and going or letting my dog outside from time to time.
I do not rent the rooms out separately -- each guest has exclusive access to all the bedrooms, living rooms, kitchen, etc.
The guest area accommodations of the home were designed specifically to meet the needs of any traveler. Enjoy hotel-like hospitality with the conveniences of home. Admire the beautiful views of Pikes Peak through the windows of the office and Aquatic Rooms.
Guests can check in after 3:00 pm. Check out is 11:00 am. I'm flexible with both times, so just check with me if you plan on arriving earlier or leaving later.
The Bamboo Room is the "presidential suite" of the house and has its own double sinks, shower, bathroom, and deep luxury tub. The bathroom floor features rain-forest-jade marble tile from Afghanistan. Custom paintings (by me!) line the walls. A 50' Smart HD TV is mounted on the wall for comfortable viewing. The room has two queen-sized, super comfortable beds, featuring luxury bamboo sheets, thick comforter, and quality pillows.
The Aquatic Room was custom designed to be convenient for travelers, while exuding the charm of an ocean beach cottage. Enjoy plenty of space to spread out your luggage, mirrors in all the right places, etc. Plus, sleep great in the queen-size bed with bamboo luxury sheets, thick comforter, and quality pillows. Watch TV on the the HD Smart TV mounted on the wall.
The Guest Bathroom is directly across from the Aquatic Room and adjacent to the Indiana Jones Office. It features a standard size bathtub, spa shower head, and plenty of space to spread out your toiletries on the counter and various drawers/cabinets.
The "Indiana Jones Office" received it's name from previous guests who commented on the decor! Browse the collection of unique artifacts or watch HD Smart TV at the desk. This room can also comfortably sleep one in the Twin-size mattress with goose-down padding and luxury linens. Located immediately adjacent to the guest bathroom. A second portable bed can be added for larger groups at your request.
Advanced notice/booking is recommended so someone else doesn't grab your spot. I prefer as much notice as possible, but I also keep the rooms ready for guests at all times. I will happily do my best to accommodate last minute requests for lodging.
Space and time-permitting -- and assuming we've discussed it first via email -- I am happy to pick up or drop off travelers at the Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (9.5 miles away).
Also, as you might have noticed from the pictures, I have a lot of exotic items throughout my house. I formerly served in the military and had the good fortune of seeing a lot of the world in the process. I am always happy to take guests for a "tour" of the house and explain the history and origin of particular artifacts if interested.
There is ample parking available -- the house is located in a cul-de-sac, so park anywhere or in the driveway! Guest AccessGuests have EXCLUSIVE access to every room on the second floor. Guests have access to everywhere on the first floor except the garage. You may occasionally see me coming or going. Interaction with GuestsAs someone who has used airbnb before myself, I know it can be a bit overwhelming to have the owner follow you around. I like my personal space and try to give my guests the same. With that said, however, I am always happy to talk with visitors and share my recommendations regarding restaurants, attractions, etc. I guaranty few other people have a more intimate knowledge of the best hidden gems near the Springs. The NeighborhoodThe house is located in Fountain -- a cute small town just south of Colorado Springs. In many respects, it's the perfect location for visitors. Because we are just a bit south of the Springs, we are also at a lower elevation. This means the weather is almost always surprisingly warmer here. And it can also help ease acclimation for those planning on exploring Manitou Springs, climbing Pikes Peak, etc.
The house is minutes from the freeway, giving you easy access to any destination. You are 5 minutes away (or less) from I-25, Fort Carson, shopping, Safeway, Noodles, Starbucks, Culver's, liquor/cigar store, Jersey Subs, Chinese food, etc.
The Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Manitou Cliff Dwellings, Rodeo Museum, Olympics Museum (and training facilities), Old Colorado City, The Cheyenne Mountain Zoo, Seven Falls, Broadmore Hotel, Resort and Spa, and Downtown Colorado Springs are all within a half-hour drive. The Pikes Peak International Raceway (PPIR) is 9.8 miles away. The World Arena is 9.2 miles away. Walking trails and parks are minutes away in several directions. The Colorado Springs Municipal Airport is 9.5 miles away.
Fountain Valley School of Colorado -- the elite private preparatory boarding school -- is 6.3 miles away. The equestrian stables and training areas are also in the same general area.
Additionally, I am always happy to provide some "native" insight into the best areas to visit/camp/explore, etc. Most people come visit the Springs without knowing about the tiger and large cat animal shelter just east of here. On the weekends, you can visit and usually hold an exotic baby animal (I got to hold a tiny baby Siberian tiger once!).
Bishop's Castle is another amazing tourist destination that no one ever seems to know about. It's probably the largest building made by one man -- an enormous whimsical castle tucked in the mountains of Colorado -- built one rock at a time by Jim Bishop.
Fountain is a great neighborhood just south of Colorado Springs. It's far enough south that the weather is noticeably warmer and more arid. In 8 years, I have only had to shovel snow a handful of times. We are minutes from the freeway, so your door to Colorado Springs and the surrounding area awaits. In addition, we are less than a mile from dozens of stores, restaurants, etc. All the major touristy things in Colorado Springs are within a half-hour drive (except the Air Force Academy, which is farther north). Getting AroundThe public transportation system in Colorado Springs is, unfortunately, not very sophisticated. You are within easy walking distance of stores and a bus line, but I'd advise having a vehicle if you intend to travel much around Colorado. Other Things to NoteThere is ample parking available -- the house is located in a cul-de-sac, so park anywhere or in the driveway!
Guests also are free to watch movies from my personal collection of DVDs and blu-rays.
