The SpaceThe newly painted, carpeted, and redecorated main guest room has a queen bed, and is cozy, warm, and welcoming. There is nice natural light. A full guest bathroom is just off the bedroom.
There is a second bedroom that has also just been painted, carpeted, and redecorated that has a double bed as well as nice natural light and a desk. It shares the guest bathroom.
In the morning you will find a continental breakfast of juice, cereals, instant oatmeal, toast fixings, jams and peanut butter, hard-boiled eggs, and fruit along with coffee and teas. What else is offered will vary depending on the market and my time to do other offerings. If you give me notice perhaps I can provide something you especially enjoy for breakfast. Breakfast is my absolute favorite meal. :)
We share our home with a Yorkie, Mr. Noodles, and a cat, Cleo. Both are very friendly. Guest AccessGuests have access to a shaded deck in the back and there is a BBQ you may use. Guests may also use the kitchen and living room spaces. The refrigerator has space that may be used and you may use the kitchen appliances and utensils. There is ample parking. Our development has a private road with views of the LaPlata Mountains , the Sleeping Ute, and Mesa Verde.
Cortez is a short 5-10 minutes away. Interaction with GuestsMy wife and I are open to interaction with guests and enjoy meeting and visiting with new people. We have an extensive knowledge of the area and we both do work in Mesa Verde National Park. I grew up in Durango.
We are recently retired educators. My wife, Sherri, was an elementary school principal and I was an elementary teacher. Sherri recently started a new job as a field director for the Boettcher Foundation teacher residency program. We worked over twenty years in Dolores just nine miles north of us. We volunteer at Mesa Vere National Park and get out often to explore the canyons of Utah and Arizona(URL HIDDEN)
Our first guests left this review but missed the deadline for posting it.
Maxwell House far exceeded our expectations! We had hoped to find comfortable, reasonable lodging near our destination, Mesa Verde. What we discovered was a gem – clean, lovely bedrooms (including robes!); separate area of the house off the kitchen giving us the feel of a private space; a nice simple breakfast in a spacious kitchen with a beautiful view of Colorado; and the most friendly, knowledgeable hosts you could imagine. Steve and Sherri's warmth set us at ease immediately, our conversations with them made the evenings a true pleasure, and their recommendations on what to see and where to go were spot on. We even added extra adventures to our itinerary thanks to them. Liked the vibe so much we added a night, too! What an amazing first airbnb experience. We would love to stay there again the next time our travels take us to the Southwest.
Marina, Kevin , and Kiera The NeighborhoodWe have wonderful sunrises and sunsets (check photos) with lots of various wildlife including deer, eagles, hawks, herons,
coyotes, and others. The nights are great for star gazing. Our development is spread out with each home having several acres of land. We love being out of town and yet within easy reach of stores.
Phil's World, a world class mountain bike trail system, is about a 20 minute ride/10 minute drive from our house.
Mesa Verde National Park's entrance is a 15 minute drive. If you have a tour booked during the season plan to leave our house an hour and fifteen minutes before your tour begins. Allow more time if you plan to stop at all on the way to the tour.
Hovenweep National Monument is about an hour away. The Four Corners is also about an hour.
If you like a good pub/brewery there is one in Dolores, Cortez, Mancos, and several in Durango.
Our neighborhood is private, quiet, and open with places to walk and great scenery all around. Getting AroundThere is not much public transportation in the area. Cortez has a small taxi service. Most everyone drives their own vehicle. Other Things to NoteWe are a home that shares space with a cat, Cleo, and a Yorkie, Mr. Noodles. Our pond attracts ducks and deer are often in the development. We have coyotes, foxes, prairie dogs, rabbits, hawks and eagles that are often seen as well.
