This is our family cabin that we use most week-ends, but rent when we are not using it, so it should have everything you need for a very comfortable stay. Ask about our spring/winter discounts and waiving the cleaning fee. The cleaning fee is used to clean the cabin for you before your arrival after other guests have left. You do not need to clean the cabin upon your departure. If you would like to clean the cabin yourself, for yourself, we can waive the cleaning fee. Guest AccessEntire cabin and 2 lovely acres of aspen and spruce forest surrounding it, which we own, as well as acres of open space adjacent to our property. Interaction with GuestsWe love our cabin and the area, and are happy to offer suggestions of things to do. Someone will check you into the cabin when possible, and our neighbor can help with any problems you may have. Other Things to NoteThere is a $75 cleaning fee and tax (to be determined before booking). You may inquire about waiving the cleaning fee if you would prefer to clean the cabin yourself, for yourself, upon your arrival. You would not need to clean the cabin before your departure, other than the basic check-out of doing your dishes and putting them away and cleaning up kitchen after yourself. Prices increase on holidays, and during peak seasons, so please contact us for the seasonal rate. Week-end rates Dec 1 - April 1 and May 22 - Oct 1 are $195/night, week-days Memorial day - Labor day $195/night. Weekly rates are higher on holiday week-ends. The house cleaner lives nearby and will be there to check you in, check on the hot tub and assist you if you have any problems. She is also who the neighbors call if there is excessive noise, so if you are looking for a party rental, this is definitely not the house for you. It is best suited for couples, small groups and families. Sometimes we do not rent for just one night over the week-end, so just ask. We love to share the experience of our cabin when we are not using it, however, we do not always know far in advance when we will be using it, so just ask. The SpaceBeautiful log house situated on 4 acres with stunning mountain views and a creek running through. A large section of our 4 acres are fenced in so the dogs can roam around - our dog never wants to go back to the city! Relax in the hot tub and gaze at the amazing night sky - see the milky way with zero light pollution. We also have many DVDs and CDs available and board games for your entertainment. All the great outdoors are at your feet, but you can still come home to a beautiful cabin with a luxurious country style kitchen and a large deck with a grill. Cozy up to the fire in the living room! The house can sleep up to 9 people. Beds: 1 king, 1 queen, 1 full, 1 twin, and a pullout couch. Guest AccessThe entire house as well as surrounding property is included. Back deck, hot tub, large back yard with stream access, parking for 3-4 cars. Interaction with GuestsWe live in Denver so we will not be present at the property, but could be if there was a need. Keys will be available via lock box - allowing you to check-in at any time of day. Please let us know if you have any questions about the area or need recommendations of things to do! The NeighborhoodIf you are craving fine dining, breweries, a distillery, downhill mountain biking, or excellent shopping, the short drive up to Breckenridge will be worth it! The towns of Alma and Fairplay also have a variety of cute local places to grab a bite. Head down to Fairplay (10 min) and visit South Park City (a restored ghost town turned museum) - yes, what the cartoon was based on. Or, go to the local beach to fish and pan for gold. Located 2 miles outside of Alma (25 minutes south of Breckenridge). Hop right on Mosquito Pass Road and head up to one of the highest mountain passes in the US (13,185 ft) for a world class 4x4 trip. Tons of fishing and bird watching opportunities in the area - Mosquito Creek runs through our property and joins the North Fork of the South Platte, for excellent trout fishing. Go hiking - only minutes to hundreds of alpine hiking options. Climb three 14'ers in one day - Lincoln, Democrat, and Bross - only a 15 minute drive away at the Kite Lake trailhead. Be sure to check out our guide book by looking at the Location section of our listing. We will continue to add restaurants, stores, hikes, etc to this. Please email/text/message at any time if you have questions about things to do in the area. Getting AroundWe are on a dirt road about 2 miles off of Highway 9. The road is well maintained by the county in both summer and winter. 4x4 is highly recommended in the winter in the high country as snow falls cannot be immediately removed from the roads. Be aware that at 10,000 feet "winter" could mean anything from late October to mid April (although mainly Dec-Mar). There are some roads in the area that do need 4x4 in the summer - e.g. if you want to drive up Mosquito Pass you will need 4x4 with a lift kit, 4x4 is recommended for trips like Kite Lake (though many cars manage to make it up there), etc. However, it is not needed for most summer roads, only if you decide to make an adventure of it! There is not public transportation in Park County, Colorado. We are about a 2 hour drive from Denver International Airport or a 1.5 hour drive from downtown Denver. 3 hours from Fort Collins and 2 hours from Colorado Springs. If coming from Denver, we recommend taking US-285 rather than I-70. The trip is shorter, however, it is a two lane road and there can be lots of deer/elk at night - so drive safe! Other Things to NoteDogs are allowed, up to 2, for an additional $100 per stay.

The SpaceThe cabin was built in the 1960's (funky kitchen linoleum and mustard low pile carpet - awesome). There is electricity for one light and a fan in the outsouse, that's it. Kitchen with propane range and oven is ready to go - just bring you food, cooler and your water. We have pots, pans, dishes, napkins, and silverware. Cozy on the velvet couch by the fire in the evening. Bedtime offers a full-sized bed in separate bedroom (semi-private), a single daybed in the living area and two single futons for extra capacity wherever. BRING BEDDING. There is a screened porch with a long wooden table and papasan chair for warm days. The space is a 500 sf cabin with a separate bedroom (no door). There is a screened porch which is terrific for summer or early fall sleeping. HEAT is from a wood-burning stove with a glass door for ultra coziness. There are round logs and an axe and hatchet for splitting. It will be as cold as the outdoors when you arrive and in about 2 hours you should be able to get the indoor temp comfortable in the dead of winter. WATER water is running in the sink for dishes until September SLEEPING There is a full-sized bed in the semi-private bedroom and a single daybed in the livingroom, and two additional single-sized futons to be placed wherever at night and stored during the day. There is a velvet sofa that I have spent many nights on, but you can't stretch out all the way. Bring sheets and blankets or sleeping bags. Our family sleeps 5 adults cozily in the winter and 30 friends in the summer with tents, treehouse etc... COOKING There is a propane range and oven, 4 burners. Cookware is provided. Pot for snowmelt is provided. Plates, mugs, mason jars, can opener, cutting board and knife, paper napkins, utensils are all there. Stove has no pilot - turn on gas and lite each time you use. Guest AccessThere is a realtor lockbox on our gate with the keys to the gate padlock, cabin and treehouse. In SUMMER AND FALL, arrive and open gate, drive down to cabin and enjoy. The road can handle anything but a real low-rider. We bring our Jetta (carefully) or our Eurovan with no issues. IN WINTER AND SPRING, once the snow settles in typically around Thanksgiving, plan on parking your vehicle at gate at top of driveway and hiking or snowshoeing in. It is about 1/4 mile downhill into cabin. We will leave a sled locked to gate for your supplies. The availability of this sled depends on each guest returning it to the gate-be prepared in winter for all eventualities. In the shoulder seasons, be aware of the weather and move your car out if a storm is coming or be prepared for a spendy plow or tow:) Interaction with GuestsWe live in Denver, and while we are there frequently, we are not there between each guest. So clean up is on an honor system - please leave the cabin tidy. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is a private subdivision with 5 to 20 acre wooded lots on the edge of valley of the sun area of Fairplay. Getting AroundThere is no public transport. Bring a vehicle and drive right in when there is no snow and park at top of driveway in cul-de-sac right in front of gate (to leave room for plows to work) when snow is on the ground or on the way:) Other Things to NoteMice and other wildlife dig people food. Keep food enclosed when sleeping and never leave food outside of plastic tubs when you leave. A box of cereal or oatmeal in a cupboard will bring the mice every time. Really, if you leave food out that is called a people problem, not a critter problem.

The SpaceSpectacular views of 5 peaks over 13,000 ft., including Mt.Sherman. 10 private acres allows guests peace and quiet, brilliant star gazing (weather permitting) and easy access to area amenities. All season roads, wildlife (watch out for the moose!) yet all modern comforts provides guests with a truly rich Colorado experience. Guest AccessFairplay and Alma just 10 minutes away via all-season (plowed) county road. Breckenridge world-class skiing is 30 minutes away. Fairplay is the "Fishing Capital" of Colorado with gold-medal fly fishing streams and lakes. Buena Vista, river rafting and 14-er Collegiate Peaks 30 minutes away. Brew pubs and dining galore! This is South Park, folks! Chill out like true Coloradoans and get off the beaten path. Interaction with GuestsWe live part-time in the Boulder area and part-time at the cabin. We are responsive immediately via text or phone and love to interact with our guests. Just let us know of any questions and we'll be happy to give ideas on what to do, depending on the season. We also want our guests to feel part of the cabin family. We have ALL the spices you need, plus some extra "communal" things like flour, oil, foil, plastic bags, first aid, sun screen, etc. So don't buy a bunch of stuff until you see what's in the cabin. If you use the last, please replace. The NeighborhoodOur ten acres is called a "meets and bounds" property, so it's not part of a formal neighborhood, but there are some neighbors close by. So you get privacy without isolation. You can walk down to the Sacramento Creek from the property. We have an awesome campfire area on the property and there's plenty of wood to be found (and wood cutting tools provided). Getting AroundYou'll definitely need to rent a car. It's about a 2 hour drive up Hwy 285 from Denver International. If winter, we recommend all-wheel drive or 4x4. Great hiking, fishing. Some gear is available to guests, or bring your gear. You can either walk around and enjoy the immediate area, or drive a few miles to world-class activities. Other Things to NoteThe cabin is located in the Rocky Mountains at 11,000 feet. High altitude alert for low landers (talk to Host about any concerns). The cabin was built in 1980 and remodeled, but we kept the funky turquoise stove. There is no dishwasher, so you can contemplatively wash dishes by hand as you gaze at the mountain views (love it!). You can do laundry in town. The cabin is about 1400 sf and has all the "important" modern amenities. You can actually see the cell tower about 3 miles as the crow flies from the cabin, so "hot spot" reception (Internet) is great for Verizon users. Awesome theater room with 46" HDTV with Direct TV carrying most of the channels, Blu-Ray DVD player, sound bar and some movies we have up there to start with. But the best thing is SLEEPING in the super comfy beds. Ahhhh!!!

The SpaceThe house is in a very private location but still close to town and is surrounded by a magical woods. It is not uncommon for people to see forest elfs. There are eight chickens that lay very good eggs green, brown and blue. In the summer the horses are in the back field. We are happy to give people their space to enjoy the beauty of the mountains. There is no public transportation in our very small town in the mountains. However from the house it is a 15 minute walk thru the trees and the field, across a small foot bridge over the Platte River, around the fishing lake and up the metal stairs to town. The SpaceREDHAWK RETREAT is a hand-crafted Cordwood Construction. One large open bedroom on the top floor and two smaller bedrooms downstairs on the ground floor. The leather sleeper sofa in the living room will fold out for overnight use, but it is not recommended for long-term use. Guest AccessOur home is open to guests to enjoy the outside vistas and the rustic, juxtaposition of French antiques amid rough-hewn wood and wrought iron fixtures. All nurturing a creative energy that has embued the cabin within. Current owners are professional musicians. Interaction with GuestsWe are available by phone 24/7 to answer any questions or address concerns. Our management team is nearby to repair or correct any issues that arise. The NeighborhoodREDHAWK is situated in the geographic center of Colorado. Within an hour, guests may be aboard a gondola above Breckenridge or, a few minutes later over that, aboard a raft floating down the Arkansas River outside Salida. Or already soaking in a natural hot spring in Buena Vista. The Continental Divide and many of Colorado's famed "Fourteeners" are nearby. Getting AroundA car is required to access REDHAWK. A Four Wheel Drive vehicle is not required though HIGHLY recommended during the heavy snowfall months (December - March). The driveway is plowed after a snowfall of 3" or more. However, if you plan to drive out early to catch the first chair up the mountain in Breckenridge or Keystone, it is recommended to park at the TOP of the drive the night prior to a heavy snowfall. This increases your chances of an on-time departure and not a delay waiting for the snowplow to come down the driveway to fetch you. Other Things to NoteUPDATE February 2016: The satellite Internet service has become dubious at best. The past two guests have had sporadic service and the customer service from EXEDE / VIASAT has assured me that their system is fine. They add that customer demand in the area is the cause for slow speeds. Alternative Internet service is being pursued. But in the meantime, the house must be considered "OFF THE GRID" when it comes to Internet.

The house is only 3-4 years old, so we have not gotten around the renovating the basement. There is currently a personal gym there.

Our log mountain home sits on 1.2 acres among the aspen trees. We recently acquired this cabin from the original owner/builder and love the location because of the amazing views and ease of access, even in bad weather. We enjoy the feeling of solitude, tucked into our grove of trees. Located only a 2 hour drive from either Denver or Colorado Springs, and the community roads are maintained year round. The cabin is in a gated community, 2 miles south of Fairplay. For high adventure, at the road to our home is a hiking path into the forest, or exit the community and enter the national forest to start four wheeling, hiking, mountain biking, or you can head over to one of the 5 stocked fishing ponds in the neighborhood to cast a line (excellent for small children, or adults alike). There is also a tennis court located near the community building. Our kitchen is outfitted with everything needed to prepare and serve meals, along with many spices and basic amenities such as sugar, coffee and paper products. We also have a brand new natural gas grill on the deck, so we never have to worry about running out of propane.
