Monarch, along with the chalet, are perfect for families. Fun extras include a hidden dart board, surround sound and an indoor sauna. World class white water rafting or kayaking on the Arkansas River. If you want to stay in the mountains, with adventure and mountain beauty in every direction, this is the place for you! Adventure Central is a very comfortable three bedroom log home in historic Maysville. Just 200 yards south of the house, the mountainside climbs steeply for more than 1000 feet! The ridge then turns south, and climbs another 3000 feet to the summit of Palhone Peak. (best access for climbing is from Willow Creek rd) The ridge you see to the north from the back deck climbs more gently at first, but in six miles has reached the 14,000 foot summit of Mt. Shavano. The north ridge you see from the front door climbs first to 12,000 ft Missouri Hill, then the 13,000 ft Mt. Taylor and Mt Aetna. You can walk to the river from the house and hike in every direction. Ten minutes from skiing, ten minutes from rafting, and mountain biking from your door! At the end of the day sit out on our newly enlarged two level back deck and enjoy dinner with mountains everywhere you look! There is nothing better than relaxing and taking in the view or enjoying the amazing stary sky from our brand new outdoor Hot Tub! The night sky is framed by mountains on both sides, and bright stars in-between. If you are quiet, the deer will sometimes graze in the back yard while you are out on the deck or chilling in the hot tub! There are 15 summits over 13,000 feet within a ten mile radius, and three of them are over 14,000 ft. Mountain bikers can access hundreds of miles of trails starting right from the front door. Hikers can access six trail-heads in different directions, all about five minutes from the house. A short ways further and there are dozens more. Many of our guests enjoy just walking the county roads in "the neighborhood", taking in the mountain views and watching our local "towny" deer population (who at times, like when they eat our lilac flowers, act like they own the place!). Good fishing starts with a short walk or a two minute drive, great fishing in a ten minute drive or a longer hike. In the winter its just five minutes to dog sledding and snowmobiling. In the summer, the best rafting in the state of Colorado is just ten minutes away. There are more jeep and ATV trails within five miles of this house than you will find just about anywhere in the state! All this, and still just ten minutes to Salida, with its restaurants, grocery, and night life. The two story log home has three bedrooms, with one king, and two queen beds. The master bedroom is quite roomy, and the king sized bed has a select comfort mattress, that allows each person to adjust the firmness of their side to their own liking. There is a full bath on each floor. There is also a sun room with a full futon, and for kids an inflatable queen bed and a folding baby crib are stored in a closet. The back deck is perfect for morning coffee, and now has a lower section with a pergola and another table so everyone can eat dinner outside in the summer. A propane barbecue grill makes for easy meal preparation. If you look around early in the morning, or sometimes during dinner, you can enjoy watching deer and elk grazing on the mountainside south of the house. Bring a pair of binoculars because the ridge goes up farther than you might think, and they really help when it comes to spotting animals. Its actually not that uncommon to see deer right in the back yard! When the deer are busy somewhere else, you can still enjoy watching bluebirds chase bugs and hummingbirds chase each other in the field beyond the deck. Even though its a log home, it comes with all the comforts you need. A well stocked kitchen with regular oven, microwave, coffee maker and dishwasher, as well as all the pots pans and cooking utensils you will need. There is a sun room with an HD TV, and stereo. The house has a washer and dryer, high quality internet, and even a ski storage closet. If you came to play in the mountains, why stay in the city? Click through our photos and get a true feel for how nice the inside is, and picture yourself enjoying the perfect vacation! Most people haven't heard of Maysville, a tiny village on the way up to Monarch Ski Area that seems to have more deer than people. It was a boomtown back in the mining days, but now it has just a handful of tasteful homes spaced nicely so that you don't feel crowded at all. One of the remaining historic buildings is the little red schoolhouse across the street from our house. OK, there is also one ugly grey utility garage to the south of our property, but its easy to ignore with the stunning vistas that surround you. This home is only two hours from the Colorado Springs airport, and Three hours from Denver, but you can fly also into Gunnison and drive to the house from there is less than an hour! Check out the special discounts available for Fall and Spring!!! If the calendar shows booked, send us a note anyway, sometimes we get late cancellations...

Your cabin and beautiful property provided a very memorable spring break for our family. Thank you! Austin, TX 11/24/13 Thank you for opening up your home! The Views are amazing. Loved all the special details you put in and outside your home. Gorgeous!! We drove out from Dallas, TX and decided to stay a few nights up here before heading down to Denver for Thanksgiving. We enjoyed being able to relax and enjoy the beauty all around us! The Ingells, Dallas, TX 10/18/13 What a wonderful place! It's a picture postcard. The snow surprised us, only brought tennies. We'll come again I'm sure! The lodge is extraordinary & the views are without compare. Thanks so much for having us. Mike & Glenda. 7/8/13 First off, this place is absolutely remarkable. Way better than any of my family could have imagined. The scenery was breathtaking and the details inside & outside the home make you feel a part of nature. The mine next door was never an issue and was a unique scene coming and going from the home. The 3 children absolutely had a blast while fishing and hiking on the property. The deer that visited on a morning were a joy and made the morning so beautiful for us. The deck was also very relaxing to everyone as we sat and enjoyed time with one another. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful home with my family. This is a vacation we will treasure always. The Melton's 6/28/13 From the picturesque view to the "over the top" amenities, this home is #1! We knew from the moment we drove up this would be a vacation to remember! Waking up w/a coffee on the deck & just taking the mt. view in was AMAZING!! Our children enjoyed fly fishing in the pond... if only you could have seen their faces as they proudly held a trout in their hands :). I love to cook & the kitchen was perfectly designed to accommodate our meal prep. The beds were very comfortable!! I don't think you could take a bad picture out here! Found myself mesmerized at times by the beauty you were able to share w/us! Wheat a PRIME LOCATION!! We even visited Great Sand Dunes Nat'l Park (2nd time) because it was only 1 1/2-2 hour drive, but staying home & relaxing was NOT HARD to do! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts!! The Kertzman's

Welcome to Rocky Top Cabin at Monarch. Our little rustic and cozy cabin has all the modern conveniences. Located high up in Colorado's Rocky Mountains in the Historic Mining Town of Garfield, aka Monarch, it is a little get- a-way from the big city, and we hope that you will enjoy this little cabin as much as we do. Make yourself comfortable and enjoy. This year-round charming little place is great for a couple, as a honeymoon cottage, or for a family with two small children. Please note that Rocky Top Cabin would be uncomfortably tight for 4 adults and is not recommended. Our cabin is pet free and smoke free inside and outside. Once inside you are greeted into a small living room with cathedral ceiling, open dining area and a completely equipped kitchen and an updated bathroom. The Cabin has one bedroom with a queen bed in an enclosed upstairs loft, and in the living room there is a full sized Sofa Sleeper suitable for one or two children. We also supply you with free Satellite TV, long distance in the USA, and WiFi. In winter you are only 4 miles by car (5 to 10 minutes depending on road conditions)) to Monarch Ski and Snowboard Area, a hidden gem with 57+ runs, all natural powder snow skiing, snow boarding and views unparalleled atop the Continental Divide. Within several hundred yards there's a Snowmobile Rental shop. Several miles away there's a sled dog outfitter in Monarch Park if you'd like to do the "mush-mush" on sleds pulled by dogs. Cross country skiing and snow shoeing are possible pretty much from the front door of Rocky Top Cabin. In the summer, have a cup of coffee as you sit on the deck, enjoy the views, the fresh mountain air and listen to the rush of the South Fork, a tributary of the Arkansas River just across the street. Inside in the cold evening cozy up to the pellet stove, or play board games, read a book, listen to relaxing music, or watch TV. You have mountains all around that can be explored and the San Isabel National Forest surrounds the little town of Monarch. So whether you like hiking, mountain biking, gold panning, skiing, sledding or checking out old ghost towns it is just out your door. In the town of Salida you can enjoy many fine restaurants and shops, and nearby you have fishing, whitewater rafting, horseback riding, swimming in the hot spring pools. There is so much to do and something for everyone that you'll probably want to come back during one of our other 3 seasons. Don't forget fall with the most beautiful colors you will ever see. It is breathtaking. A couple of caveats: The village of Garfield/Monarch is located between two mountain's. Hwy 50 also runs thru the mountains and yes, you will hear the noise from the cars, trucks and motorcycles no matter where you stay in this village.
