The SpaceThank you for considering our little Victorian cottage in Silver Plume/Georgetown for your vacation in Colorado. LOVELAND SKI RESORT is only a few miles away. We are in the middle of local attraction close to Vail, Breckenridge, historic Georgetown, Idaho Springs. The cottage is located on Clear Creek in historic Silver Plume that was founded in 1870 near the rich silver mines west of Georgetown. We have worked on remodeling the cottage since 2006. It took us 7 years to have it done. We have a beautiful remodeled bathroom with an antique like claw-footed tub; we have installed a high efficiency washer/dryer: the house never had them before. We have decorated the house with some beautiful antique and vintage furniture and art pieces; we have a wonderful collection of antique and vintage lamps at the property. Let us know if you have any questions concerning the property and surrounding area. We will be happy to provide additional information and a list of local attractions. Guest AccessWe provide easy access instructions, directions, a list of local attractions and a Welcome Letter when reservation is confirmed. Interaction with GuestsI respond to all emails right away. You are welcome to text me anytime The NeighborhoodHere is some history: The Pelican mine gave rise to this town in about 1870. A neighboring mine, the Dive, was so close the owners of the mines fought daily about each other encroaching on "their" vein underground. Silver Plume had its own newspaper, the Coloradoan, and it was reported the town was menaced by fire on numerous occasions. A story is told of one of the miners that worked there who's fiance was found dead on the eve of their wedding. He came west to forget everything and escape and after mining all day would retire to whisky and his violin. Townsfolk would come outdoors each night to listen to him play. One day, as the last note rang out, so did a gunshot. The townsfolk found him dead with one bullet through his heart and burial instructions nearby: "To Clifford Griffin, We hope you are now reunited with your fiance". Getting AroundThe former mining town of Silver Plume sits at one end of the three-mile, engineering masterpiece known as the Georgetown Loop Railroad (Georgetown is at the other end). Visitors can start the rail ride from either location several times daily. Other Things to NoteThis is a wonderful historic area of Colorado Gold Rush days. There are so many things to see here! We will provide a list of local attractions with links to their websites so you can plan your vacation ahead of time...

The SpaceThe unit is a cottage duplex of a larger building and is approximately 400 sq. ft. Quaint and humble. This is not the Ritz Carlton, but is fantastic if you're looking for a simple place. One bedroom with a queen size bed. The second bed is a futon in the living room/dining room space that folds out into a queen size sleeping pad. The space is more comfortable for 2 people, but can accommodate up to 4 if you are "dirtbagging" it. Clear Creek passes literally just feet behind the cabin. You can open the window and watch the creek go by as you brush your teeth in the morning. We also have a cozy little sitting area where you can peacefully enjoy the tranquility of the mountain stream. Peaceful (and affordable) mountain living at it's best. ** Because of proximity to the creek, I do not recommend this location for families with small kids. Simple kitchen to meet your cooking needs with a small dining table set. No dishwasher/washer/dryer. Space does not currently have WIFI. No television, but really... is that what you're here for? Guest AccessOnly one parking space. This is strictly enforced. Any additional vehicles will need to park in town or they will be towed. There are plenty of clandestine little spots to park a car within walking distance of the cabin. Interaction with GuestsHost available through email, and by phone for emergencies. You will receive an email from the host that provides all instructions and details for your stay. The NeighborhoodThe town of Silver Plume has a very rich history. That history can be viewed by the general public either at the George Rowe Museum, which is in the original school house of the town, or by walking the 7:30 Mine Trail, which gives the individual a grand view of the Silver Plume valley and the town nestled at its base. Many tales circulate about the small "Living Ghost Town". One involves a much-beloved citizen from the mining days, Clifford Griffin. According to legend, Mr. Griffin came from the state of New York, where he was raised. Griffin became engaged in New York, but his fiance tragically, and mysteriously, died the night before their wedding. Her death was contributed to unnameable "natural causes", and to escape the painful memories of his beloved, he moved to Colorado with his brother, who eventually became the owner of the 7:30 Mine (so named because their day shift started a generous hour later than the other mines, who started at 6:30 AM). Clifford became the manager of the 7:30, and was much loved by his miners for his kindness. According to local legend, every Christmas he bought all his miners a goose for their families, and every Fourth of July, he paid off every bar between Silver Plume and current-day Bakerville 4 miles (6 km) to the west, so his miners could enjoy their holiday without spending their family's money. Not only did he take care of his miners, every evening he provided him with entertainment as well. Since he could not bear the daily sight of his men with their wives and families after his tragedy, he spent a great deal of time near the entrance to the 7:30, which sits about 1,500 feet (460 m) above the town of Silver Plume. Every evening he would sit near the edge of a nearby cliff and play his violin. Due to the incredible acoustics of the valley, the entire town could step outside and listen to his concerts. According to local legend, one evening, after a particularly beautiful recital, the residents heard a gunshot. Assuming the worst, the miners of the 7:30 raced up the trail to the entrance, and there they found Clifford Griffin, shot through the heart, in a grave he'd dug himself. A note in the nearby Manager's Office told the tale. It asked the residents of Silver Plume to leave him where he lay, because that's where he'd experienced the most happiness since his wife died. Not only did they follow his request, the town erected a 10-foot-tall Gunnison Granite monument in his honor, directly on top of his grave site. The monument can still be seen today, on the cliffs directly in front of the 7:30 Mine. Getting AroundThe cabin is less than 100 yards from exit 226 inbound from Denver on I-70. 45 miles from downtown Denver. Fantastic and quick access to your outdoor adventure. Cabin is only 3 miles from Georgetown, with a great selection of local restaurants, bars and services. Other Things to Note** VERY IMPORTANT ** Winter travel in the Colorado mountains typically requires use of a 4x4 vehicle. I do NOT recommend booking a place in this area in the winter if you do not have, or plan to rent an AWD or 4x4 vehicle. Also, the state does have traction laws on I-70 during snow. If you are on the interstate without 4x4/snow tires/chains you could get a ticket, and it isn't cheap. As much as $650. Please be aware that the cancellation policy does not provide weather exclusions, and you should be prepared for travel in inclement conditions. **I've already had one guest sleep on the side of the interstate in their vehicle because they thought their Camry would be ok and it got stuck. They had to sleep in the freezing temperatures AND got a ticket from a friendly state trooper to top it off. DON'T BE THAT PERSON.**
