The SpaceCome experience the Roaring Fork Valley's best kept secret! Located just 24 miles north of Aspen, near the quaint streets of historic downtown Basalt is the Frying Pan valley, where the famed gold medal waters of the Frying Pan River meander through dramatic red rock spires and steep mountain hillsides. Our classic Colorado A-Frame home is located five miles from downtown Basalt across the street from the Frying Pan River. Follow the steps right out your front door to the water's edge. Behind the house are the magical Seven Castles, a series of dramatic red rock spires that tower over the valley. Access the 7 Castles hike and climb a series of waterfalls from our back door. Located just one mile from a big horn sheep refuge, wildlife outnumbers humans in this quiet little mountainside hamlet. Up valley you'll discover an endless outdoor playground, beginning with the shores of Reudi Reservoir popular for boating, fishing, camping, paddle boarding, and picnicking on the scenic beaches. From there, continue on to Chapman Reservoir where motorized boats aren't allowed--ideal for kayaks and canoes. Easy access to White River National Forest and surrounding wilderness provides infinite possibilities for hiking, hunting, snow mobiling, cross country skiing and more. Discover Colorado's authentic side in Basalt, where the quaint downtown street is packed with shopping and dining that rivals what you might find in Aspen for a fraction of the price. From our location, you can have the best of both worlds with easy access to remote wilderness and all the amenities Basalt has to offer. Buses to Aspen run every 20 minutes from 6 a.m. to 2 a.m. from downtown Basalt. This cozy 1 bedroom/1 bath apartment with additional Murphy bed sleeps a maximum of 4 (two queen size beds) and has a large deck with gas grill surrounded by the steep forested hillside and lush terraced gardens that provide peace and privacy. Wi-fi, cable TV, and furnished kitchenette provide all the comforts of home. We live upstairs so you may hear us walking around, but there is no door connecting the two units and the lower level is very private. Enjoy a true Colorado getaway with all the amenities of Aspen at a fraction of the price. Ask us about fishing guide services that can grant you access to the private waters of Seven Castles Bend, located right across the street. We are happy to provide any information or guidance you need to plan your stay. We look forward to having you at the Margo A-Frame! Ali & Ryan Margo Guest AccessA FEW THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW: Cell Phone Reception is limited We live in a very remote area, between a steep mountain and red rock spires, so the cell phone reception isn't great. We typically get one bar and can send and receive texts, but calls get dropped. We do have a cordless phone and a landline for guests who want it. Satellite Internet isn't perfect We do have wireless and it is high speed but it isn't 100% reliable. Weather, technical issues and limited IP addresses do interfere with connectivity. If you are here on business and have to depend on being online, this might not be the place for you. If you are someone who just needs to check your email and your (SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) page once and a while, you should be fine. 4WD Recommended in Winter We live on a dirt road that can get tricky after winter snow storms and is not maintained by the city. Four wheel drive is a must to get up to our house which is at the top of a steep grade. In summer, any vehicle is fine. We have a lot of stairs The apartment is on the lower level. There are 16 steps to get to the main house and 10 more to get to the apartment. If you are traveling with elderly, disabled or otherwise physically challenged people, this might not be appropriate for you. We are dog friendly. For most people, this is a good thing! WE DO ALLOW (and love) DOGS! Children are fine, too :) We have a 15-pound pug named Gertie. She thinks she is a badass, but she it utterly defenseless and will do just about anything for a treat. Interaction with GuestsGuests are always welcome to knock on our door, text us or call us if they need anything at all. We are happy to accommodate you and appreciate the opportunity to address any issues or problems you might have during your stay. We also respect your privacy, so don't feel obligated--just know we are here if you need us. The NeighborhoodWe live in a beautiful, rural area on a dirt road where the wildlife outnumber the people. It's a little busier in the summertime, when there are cyclists pedaling by, fisherman in the water across the street, and boat traffic heading up to Ruedi Reservoir, 9 miles up the street where you can go boating, paddle boarding, jet skiing, fishing, swimming, and more. Getting AroundThere is NO public transit within 5 miles of our house. A car is a must! Other Things to NoteThe apartment is on the lower level of our home. While it is very private and there is no door connecting the two units, we do live above the apartment and you may be able to hear us moving about upstairs.

You'll have the whole floor to yourself including 2 bedrooms, 1 bath and a cubby-hole kitchenette with basic conveniences. Come and go freely, and enjoy the outdoor decks and natural surroundings of the home. Plenty of outdoor parking for boats and RVs. ABOUT THE HOUSE: This 3-level home sits on four acres in a verdant valley between the gold medal Frying Pan River and the majestic Seven Castles rock formation. Miles of expanse of national forest rise up from your back door. Step outside for a hike along the old Stagecoach Road or through a "secret" gorge to the multi-tiered waterfalls, hop on your bike for a ride along the river road to the Ruedi Reservoir, or walk down to the "Pan" for a leisurely day of world-class fishing. All the attractions of a rugged, mountain vacation are at your fingertips, yet the quaint, historic town of Basalt is only a short scenic drive along the river. Here you'll find eclectic shopping, superb restaurants, art galleries, bike shop, gun store, antiques and several fine yoga centers. We've seen big horn sheep, deer, elk, foxes, bears, bald eagles, rabbits and coyotes. Winter months are often best for wildlife viewing. The night skies are dark in this peaceful setting, the stars are brilliant and the milky way often looks like a cloak floating across the sky. A 2nd floor covered deck stretches across the full front and sides of the house and is a lovely place for morning coffee or tea, or for soaking up the crisp night air and looking for a shooting star. A large mountainside deck to the back is a great place to congregate and share meals and stories of the valley. Details of the house are below. You may rent either a single bedroom with private bath or the entire top floor. In both cases, you'll have access to a small kitchenette (see features below) between the two rooms. These 2 small bedrooms share a common ceiling & there are 2 tubs with shower, 2 toilets, and 2 sinks. They are perfect for lots of kiddies! The house's design, art and African theme, honors Edward Lee "Bud" Mulcahy whose life and legacy in Kapkesembe, Kenya was the subject of news articles in both Texas and Colorado. He took members from the communities of the Roaring Fork Valley and Dallas Fort Worth to bring clean water to a small village of 10,000 in Kenya. His life is summarized here: Mar 18, 1935 - May 26, 2015 May 27, 2015 Edward Lee "Bud" Mulcahy Comments (7) Edward Lee “Bud" Mulcahy died at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center on May 26th after a long battle with cancer. God indeed broke the mold when He created Bud. An extraordinary athlete, cowboy, and horseman, young Buddy committed his life to Jesus at the age of sixteen. His Horatio Alger story epitomized the American dream of hard work as his amazing lifestory has been featured in numerous news articles in Texas and Colorado. Growing up on a rural Texas farm without running water or electricity during the Depression, Bud was the first of his family to attend college, graduating from The University (of Texas) in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. He married his college sweetheart and the love of his life for 58 years, Sandra Frances Mueller. Upon graduation, Bud worked in nuclear research at the University of California at Los Alamos. Later, he did post graduate work at SMU and while at LTV, Bud tested the Apollo space suit and the heat shield for NASA's Space Shuttle in his laboratory, publishing papers in thermal dynamics. In 1971, he left the corporate world and started his own business, Lee Engineering. After retiring, Bud traveled to Africa where he and Sandy befriended a butler from a Kenyan village without running water or electricity. Bud and a volunteer team from Texas and Aspen drilled a water well and the village named a newly established school Tillebei (clean water) “Bud" Academy. He is survived by his wife Sandy and children, Lee and Cynthia. The mini-kitchenette includes a microwave, induction burner, fridge, sink, toaster, utensils, etc. If you would prefer to do more elaborate cooking, we recommend you rent the upstairs suite instead. As an architect and an artist, we carefully built our home with beams salvaged from Aspen demolitions, earthen plasters and other healthy, natural materials, and fresh air exchange. No fossil fuels here--our superefficient home is powered & heated by the sun and a toasty-warm, clean-burning wood pellet stove. We keep the home healthy with natural cleaning products and no smoking. While there is no cable TV, you'll have free wifi, and we welcome well-behaved pets. You will need a car because we are a couple miles (uphill) from the bus stop. But with a car, you’ll have access to all the valley has to offer, including Aspen/Snowmass ski slopes, shops, restaurants and entertainment, Glenwood’s hot springs pool, gold-medal fly fishing in Basalt, and the charming town of Carbondale where you can enjoy artsy shops, a rodeo in the summer or the ice skating pond in the winter. Our house adjoins BLM open space and you can hike up Light Hill right from our back yard, or you can drive to the trailheads of some of Colorado’s “14er” mountains or go on a mountain biking or rafting adventure. From our deck you can watch the hot air balloons land at dawn in the valley below. At times you'll be above the clouds and you may see hawks soaring below or elk grazing. In the evening, enjoy the mountains glowing in the setting sun, or take in the blazing Milky Way after dark. Guest AccessGuests are welcome to use the shared washer/dryer. Interaction with GuestsWhile Alexis and the kids are in CA, Douglas (husband/dad) is currently working on the property and is happy to provide advice about the region. The NeighborhoodOur neighborhood has some of the most spectacular views in the area, and it is a couple miles away from the main highway that runs up and down the valley, so it is quiet and the air is fresh and clean. Best of all, there are no city lights here, so on a clear night, you can clearly see the Milky Way! Getting AroundYou need a car to get to and from our house. The local bus will take you to Aspen, Snowmass Village, Glenwood Springs, and other charming local towns, but the bus stop is about 2-1/2 miles away! Sometimes we can help shuttle to- and from the bus stop, but this can't be guaranteed.

The Space**For WINTER TRAVELERS, please read the notes & details about 4x4 VEHICLES IN "GUEST ACCESS", "OTHER THINGS TO NOTE", & "RULES" sections!!!** Maybe you are an outdoor enthusiast; FISHERMAN, BOATER, SKIER (especially back country), HIKER, BIKER, etc. Maybe you are an ARTIST or WRITER looking for a place to create & for inspiration. Perhaps you are a SEEKER of magic, spiritual peace, or MEDITATION. If you've said "yes" to any of these, then the Ruedi Reservoir/Ruedi Creek area is the place to be. It is a mecca for breath-taking mountain wilderness beauty, wildlife, outdoor activities, as well as peace & quiet! It IS truly a magical place. The guesthouse is a spacious, but cozy studio apartment with beautiful views & a treehouse-like feel. It's nestled on 6.5 acres of aspen, fir, & spruce trees, with a small running stream nearby, as well as a creek running through another part of the property. Lie back, unwind, & relax. Enjoy watching the birds fly & greet you on your private deck. In the summer months, enjoy dining "al fresco" at your charming mosaic table on the deck. Other amenities include: a fully-stocked & newly remodeled full-sized kitchen with a vintage professional gas range; a newly remodeled bathroom & shower with artful mosaic tile work (done by yours truly : ) ); a wonderfully comfortable king-sized bed, & a comfy queen-sized futon, both with high quality linens; big, fluffy bath towels, a charming gas fireplace, which puts out great heat; plenty of clothes hanging space & drawer space, so you can really make yourself at home. LGBT friendly. *MMJ friendly (please enjoy smoking it outside).* Guest Access*4 WHEEL DRIVE is a MUST for access October - May (these tend to be the snowy months)! SNOW TIRES are also MUST! We are in a REMOTE, MOUNTAINOUS AREA! Our road is well-maintained, but there are steep grades, curves, & likely to be snow packed, icy conditions during these months! If you are flying into Colorado, most rental car companies have 4 wheel drive vehicles available for your rental during these winter season months. BE SURE TO REQUEST A 4x4/AWD WITH GOOD CLEARANCE WHEN YOU MAKE YOUR CAR RESERVATION DURING THESE MONTHS. ALSO MAKE SURE YOU DOUBLE CHECK WITH THE RENTAL CAR COMPANY TO MAKE CERTAIN THAT YOU ARE INDEED GETTING A 4x4 & THAT YOU SEE FOR YOURSELF THAT THERE ARE GOOD SNOW TIRES WITH A GOOD TREAD ON THE CAR YOU ARE RENTING (I cannot emphasize this enough)!!! I've had guests get duped by their rental car company, & get saddled with a car that could not handle the conditions, & to top it off, it had bald tires; absolutely ZERO tread! As a result, they slid off the road & got stuck in a ditch twice! It was a situation that was hard on my poor guests, as well as the whole neighborhood. (This is such an important piece, that I've posted this a few places!) As for the space, guests have access to the 2nd floor guesthouse apartment with its own private deck, which is located above the 3 car garage on the left side of the driveway. Entrance to the guesthouse is located up the stone steps to the right of the garage, & up the stairs to the deck. Guest parking is available straight ahead at the end of the driveway, & next to the garage. At this time, there is no guest parking available in the garage. While you are a guest here, you are welcome to walk around & enjoy the 6.5 acre property. Interaction with GuestsHere & there, I have events & things to do that will bring me into town during the day or evening, however, when I am available, I'm happy to help in any way that I can. You are welcome to stop by the main house to say hello during your stay, & I also respect if you prefer your privacy. The NeighborhoodWe are in a REMOTE, MOUNTAINOUS WILDERNESS AREA, & are in a small neighborhood of roughly 13 private homes. It is a quiet, peaceful, mountain paradise, completely surrounded by the USFS White River National Forest. **If you are traveling here in the winter months (generally Oct. - May), please make sure you have a 4x4/AWD vehicle!! Please read details about this in "GUEST ACCESS", "OTHER THINGS TO NOTE" & "RULES" sections!** Getting AroundAs mentioned above, there are loads of activities to occupy your time in this area, if you so desire. The Ruedi Reservoir is a 5 mile stretch of water & is only a mile down the road. You can enjoy anything from motor-boating & water skiing, to canoeing, kayaking, & stand-up paddle boarding. This area is also known for its Gold Medal fishing waters, where you can enjoy world class fly fishing 2 miles down the road on the Frying Pan River. The nearby Frying Pan Road is popular for road biking, & is the scenic roadway that takes you to numerous hiking & mountain biking trails, jeep trails, as well as back country skiing. Access trails to 2 of the 10th Mountain Division huts are within a 30 minute drive. RESORT SKIING If you are interested in resort skiing or snowboarding, of course, Aspen has some of the best terrain in the world! There are 4 ski/snowboard resorts in the Aspen area, & all are within a 1 hour drive. Aspen Mountain (or Ajax, as the locals call it) is located right in Aspen's downtown area, & has mostly advanced, with expert & some intermediate terrain. Aspen Highlands is about a 10 minute drive southwest of Ajax & is, in my humble opinion, the best of the best in the area. If you like it steep, deep, & challenging, this is the place! Take a short cat ride to hike (or hike it the whole way) the roughly 1 mile trail to Highlands Bowl. Enjoy unbelievable views of the Maroon Bells as you ascend your way to the top, & then blissfully ski/board your way down on epic steep wide open bowl terrain, or glades. For beginners, a short 5 minute drive northwest of Aspen Highlands, is Buttermilk; it's a laid back, cruisy little area that, like the rest of the Aspen area, has amazing views, but offers a low-pressure place to learn or hone your skiing, or riding skills. Lastly, about a 15 minute ride northwest of Buttermilk, is Snowmass. Snowmass has just about everything a skier or rider could want, with a fairly broad range of terrain, from beginner & intermediate, to expert & extreme, as well as some fun board & ski parks to practice your tricks on. Snowmass is another favorite of mine. THE LOCAL TOWNS The town of Basalt is the closest & is a 25 minute, scenic drive along the Frying Pan River on Frying Pan Road. When you arrive, you will find a charming little downtown area with some quaint, high quality restaurants & shops. There are also a couple angler's shops, a small market, 2 gas stations, a library, & a post office. Access to Highway 82 is just on the west side of downtown. It will take you to Aspen on the far south end (& in the summer months over the breathtaking scenic byway, Independence Pass). I believe it goes without saying, that Aspen is the ritz & glitz of the Colorado Western Slope. Big, glamorous homes, as well as high-end shops & boutiques, nice restaurants, & galleries galore. But don't let that scare you, there are some reasonably priced, down-to-earth places to shop & eat, as well. Ask me about some of my favorites! Going northbound, within about 5 minutes of Basalt, you will find the Willits area & nearby El Jebel, with Whole Foods, City Market, movie theaters, as well as several other shops & restaurants. The charming town of Carbondale is another 15 - 20 minute drive north on Highway 82; it boasts a thriving artist community (check out the First Friday art walk!), & some great little restaurants & bars--not to mention some of the best thrift store shopping in the Roaring Fork Valley! There's also a beautiful yoga studio in town called True Nature. The design of & the artifacts within the space are just beautiful, & unlike any other studio I've been to. I love the stretch yoga class! This class gives you time to really sink into your poses & free up range of motion. Lastly, & certainly not least, is Glenwood Springs on the far north end of 82 (about 20 - 25 minutes from Carbondale); hot springs activities abound! Enjoy the Glenwood Hot Springs Pool, the historic Yampa Hot Springs Vapor Caves, & the new Iron Mountain Hot Springs pools. [If you're lucky enough to be in the area when Ute Chief, Kenny Frost is leading a sweat lodge ceremony, at the Yampa Hot Springs Vapor Caves, it's a wonderful, spiritual, healing event, not to be missed!] Glenwood also has a large shopping area on the west side of town, if you're in need of the big store conveniences of Lowes, Target, Pet Smart, Bed, Bath & Beyond, & Sports Authority. BTW, in this same big store area, there happens to be a Vitamin Cottage/Natural Grocers, which is my absolute favorite grocery store; absolutely all of their produce is organic & they focus on buying from local vendors. Some more towns worth mentioning, are along Highway 133, which runs east & west from the north edge of Carbondale. It is the gateway to the Crystal River & North Fork River valleys. The gorgeous & historic towns Red Stone & Marble are within approximately a 40 minute drive west of Carbondale, & if you continue roughly another 50 minutes or so from Marble, & on the west side of McClure Pass, you will find Paonia, & nearby Hotchkiss, small agricultural towns, with big ideas about organic farming. There you will find orchards, vineyards, & small farm stands & markets. Other Things to Note*4 WHEEL DRIVE is a MUST for access October - May (these tend to be the snowy months)! (This is such an important piece, that I've posted this a few places!) *FYI: there is no cell service up here, & though there is WiFi internet, it's not the best bandwidth. Unfortunately, satellite internet is the only option in this area (the downside of living in paradise). However, you should be able to send & receive emails, & browse the internet. Streaming, or using Facetime/(SENSITIVE CONTENTS HIDDEN) are not advised. **ORGANIC, GLUTEN-FREE COOKING: Send me a note if you are interested in having me prepare you BREAKFAST or DINNER. There will be an additional fee for meals, which is not included in the housekeeping fee, or rental rate. Also, please let me know at least 48 hours in advance of your stay, if you'd like any meals prepared (along with which day & meal, as well as any food allergies). You may decide it's worth spending a little extra for a prepared meal here & there, since it's about a 25 minute drive to town--&--I can't think of a restaurant anywhere in the valley that offers a completely organic & gluten-free menu! [Plus, I'm a great cook! : )]

The SpaceThe house is NOT appropriate for toddlers – just too many open stairways! All bookings required communication with the owner so the right pricing may be applied to the booking. The minimum booking space is 2 bedrooms at $250 per night; An Airbed is available at no charge to use in one of the rooms; Attic (Singles over age 12 ONLY) can be added for $25 per bed or $75 all 3 which increases the house rental to $325 per night; Contact hostess if you need more space or have person needing rooms other than the attic. I will try to work to meet your needs. Don't forget bath suits for the hot tub and reservoir 8 miles away! This house works great for families with older children or adult groups with couples and singles. This is a home is without pretenses. It is proudly a 1979 box with a passive-solar design, on an evolving journey. All remodeling and furnishings have been targeted to comfort for a crowd and functionality. The lovely kitchen countertops are Formica and butcher block. The wood flooring is vinyl-plank. And, look closely at photos, a few baseboards did not get redone this summer. The comfort factor has been well-tested by family and friends. Option 1: The minimum base $250 rental is 2 bedrooms upstairs, each with queen beds, one with private bath and a hall bath. An twin electric blow-up mattress is available, suitable for the front queen bedroom (see photos – it’s the blue room). There is no charge for children sleeping in Mom & Dad’s room. Downstairs is a half bath, full kitchen, dining and living room, and sunroom, deck and front yard. This is 1700 square feet of living space. Option 2: Planning a larger gathering? For $25 per bed or $75 per attic … Add three (3) additional beds in separate rooms/areas of an almost-finished attic (Attic walls are 12" shy of touching the ceiling) with a half bath. Only one person per bed as sloped roof allows adequate head space on only one side of the bed. No children under 12 are allowed to sleep in attic. Please look at photos of circular stair case before you book “granny” into this spot! (I’m a Granny so I can say that!) This is an additional 700 square feet of sleeping space. Attic has open airflow to/from the sun room. This is a great for sleeping but not a daytime hang-out area. During the warmer months, roof-windows keep temperature comfortable. Room heaters are handy to assist during winter nights. Almost-finished refers to the painted floor, unfinished edges on the top of the partial walls, and a “to be removed housing of an old wood stove vent”. The attic is accessed by exposed, narrow circular stairs, only appropriate for mature/teen kids and adults. Option 3: At the owners’ discretion, so this is NOT shown on the web site. I’d be happy to send photos. Should you have more couples, this is a better added space. $60 per night - the queen downstairs office/bedroom, near a half bath. $75 per night - the king master bedroom that shares the hall bath. All bookings required communication with the owner so the right pricing may be applied to the booking. Guest AccessHouse will be open and available for your use upon your arrival. Most likely the owner will be present. Let us know if you want one space in the garage. There's plenty of outside parking which our previous guests seem to prefer. With a little coordination of all car owners, there’s room to turn-around/park toys, whether an RV, boat, trailer with snowmobiles or ATVs. Laundry: The laundry room, entered through the garage, will be shared. Storage: Space for ski boots, skis, fishing gear, etc. in the laundry area. Hot Tub: 4 person hot tub is available. Electronics: WIFI, FAX , copy and computer capabilities are available. Movies: Do not stream well in this valley but we have a Dish Hooper movie collection, DVD player, and there's a Redbox in town. Interaction with GuestsHost couple will be on premise using our locked-off master bedroom/bath with a separate entry or in our RV on the property. This has been working well to offer you privacy and to have us available to help, if requested. Winter-time guests will be happy to know we will do the snow-removal. We have a long history of many houseguests here and while we lived in Mammoth Lakes, CA. We look forward to helping you have the best vacation! Cyclists: We have planned and hosted 2 cycle weeks and have numerous 70-miles routes in and near the Roaring Fork Valley. Upon request, we would be happy to lend support for a great cycling week. Skiing: We’ve been Ski Pros at Snowmass for 14 years and could assist in getting the perfect Ski Pro for you. Fishing: Should you want a connection to a fishing guide, just ask. Several Ski Pros are also guides. Hiking: We have a nice selection of books to help you find you way and we may be able to help with shuttling. Flower and Fall Colors & Colorado-touring: Just ask if you need assistance in expanding your horizons during your trip. Crested Butte, Leadville, Eagle are awesome long day or overnight trips from our house. Along 1-70, towns of Idaho Springs and Georgetown are great stops. Train-travel: With an advance request, I would gladly help you in the logistics of riding the California Zephyr from Glenwood Springs to Denver. Snow-delays: We understand tricky travel during snow storms. Since we do not do back-to back bookings, we will have room for you to stay over. Refund whole or partial will be considered, should you be delayed or have to leave a day early to miss a storm. The NeighborhoodA scenic location in the beautiful Frying Pan Valley beneath the cliff formation called the Seven Castles. Our home has a ground-floor kitchen/living/dining rooms that flows into a sunroom and onto a front deck and yard. Walk to GOLD MEDAL FISHING. Frying Pan Road is an amazing road bike ride for experienced cyclists comfortable with cars on a narrow road. The paved Rio Grande Bike Trail has several trailheads in Basalt. 23 mi to Aspen: 5 mi to Basalt/bus/bike trail: 8 mi to Ruedi Reservoir. Basalt is a mid-valley to easily get to Aspen or Glenwood Springs/Pool/Canyon. Just enough "country" and close enough to be convenient to everything. Spectacular drive along the Frying Pan River with lots of wildlife but should you want to party-hardy in town, consider staying in town! Our acreage is in front of the house and BLM land is in back - it doesn't feel like a "neighborhood". A low-key neighborhood, up a 1/3 mile of dirt road, sitting underneath spectacular sandstone cliffs, called the Seven Castles and looking across to a dramatic mountain - an unusual combination of "Utah-style" red rock and Colorado alpine. Behind the house is BLM land and easy access to the old stage coach route, now a walking path. A very scenic 8-mile drive along the "Gold Medal" Frying Pan Fishing River gets you to the Ruedi Reservoir for beaching, swimming, fishing, kayaking, stand-up paddle boarding, water skiing, and sailing. (You’ll need to schedule our help a little in advance to use our 2 lake kayaks). The Frying Pan River is a Gold Medal trout stream. The Hunter-Frying Pan Wilderness is home to many of the 10th Mountain Huts. The Frying Pan-Arkansas Water project supports a numerous networks 2WD and 4WD drive roads, many of which get plowed in early spring time. ATV’s, snowmobiles and hunters welcomed. Frying Pan Road is an awesome and popular route for cyclists. The paved road continues for 32 miles past our home and another 10 miles of 2WD dirt and the last 4 miles are 4WD to Hagerman Pass and onto Leadville. This is a vast mega for hiking, camping and hunting.  Getting AroundHistoric Downtown Basalt, 5 miles away, has great dining, interesting shops, and a convenient bus stop. The RFTA buses can whisk you away in minutes to Aspen, Snowmass, Carbondale, and Glenwood. Passes can be purchased to reduce cost and seniors 65+ ride for free. City Market, Whole Foods and more restaurants are another 4 miles down valley. Other Things to NoteReminder No dogs or smoking in the house. No babies and toddlers in the hot tub. Winter stays are suitable for experienced winter drivers. 4WD/AWD needed to navigate the 0.3 miles trip up from the Frying Pan Road to our house in the snow season. 4WD/AWD protects our road from damage caused by slippage when the road is dry. Driving I-70 to/from Denver, Colorado Traction Laws, requiring 4WD/AWD may be implemented during winter storms. When renting your vehicle, be sure you understand the traction of the vehicles and tires.. If you want to party-hardy in town - consider staying in town. Road along Frying Pan River has lots of wildlife, bends and distractions. The road is well maintained but sense and sensibility in speed is very appropriate in bad weather. And if you are not biker-friendly, the Frying Pan River Road will be a challenge. It’s a busy cyclist route in addition to the fisherman walking along the side of the road.
