The farmhouse at Bartlett Farm has been in the Bartlett family since it was built in 1784. The house was updated in the 1990’s, while the surrounding farm is a work in progress. Bartlett Farm is active year round, Maple syruping in late winter, maintaining a small market garden, and haying fields throughout the spring and summer and finishing the year with Christmas trees. The farm has a menagerie of animals that require daily care and attention, including Fallow Deer, cows, ducks, chickens and a bison. The common living room has a working fireplace and a TV, where guests can relax before they head out for the evening or when they return. When the weather is warm enough the wrap around porch is a great place for catching up on your reading or just relaxing.

Sound Reach, recently recommended in "The Unofficial Guide to Bed & Breakfasts in New England" (MacMillan), stands on a secluded hilltop that offers a distant view of Long Island Sound on clear days. The park-like grounds are extremely private and no road is visible from the top of our drive. There are perennial gardens, an herb garden, a spacious deck with great views, and a terrace. Dense woods lie beyond us and bring us frequent visitors such as deer and wild turkeys. The land is a birder's delight and wildflowers are exceptional. Hiking/cross-country ski trails are steps away. Sound Reach was built in 1968 by a three-generation team of the Bullard family. The exterior is made of cedar logs and built around a door the Bullards sailed over from London--an antique door four feet wide with a brass lion's head knocker. The interior is spacious and Scandinavian in feel. Central rooms are two stories high with skylights and cathedral ceilings. All rooms in the house have two exposures. Visitors are welcome to use

The SpaceThis is a 1 bedroom with a queen bed, 2 closets and dresser space. Sunroom "big bed" is a king bed but also serves as a great place to lay back and enjoy movies, wii or a great book. It is adjacent to main living area with a pass through and open doorway, so we've installed a curtain over the pass through and provide a screen that can be placed by the doorway to allow for some privacy. Gather around a puzzle or classic game in the living room with ample room for family and guests. The dining area table expands to seat 6 to 8 and the hutch is stocked with linens and serving ware. Large galley kitchen is stocked with plenty of cookware, dishes, glasses and more. The favorite spot in the house is out of the house on the screened porch. Comfy seating on sturdy antique wicker, or relax on the lounge chair. We even placed a small table and chairs for those who want to eat al fresco without the bother of bugs. The chest is loaded with games and puzzles for hours of device-free enjoyment. Huge side yard is great for badminton or other yard games. Also has a hammock for a lazy afternoon nap. Small patio off the screen porch has a small bbq and table and chairs for outdoor cooking and dining. We have 3 adult bikes (2 vintage style beach bikes; 1 mountain bike), yard games, beach and camp chairs, beach and rain umbrellas and more. Driveway accommodate 2-3 cars. Guest AccessEverything for a fabulous vacation or short getaway is available - linens and towels, beach gear, games, bikes, bbq, fully stocked kitchen and more. Just bring your clothing and stop at the local Bishops, Big Y, or Fresh Market for your provisions. Or forget the provisions and walked to town or the harbor for breakfast, lunch and dinner at Guilford's outstanding eateries! There is also the Guilford Marketplace for quick provisions a quick walk into town. Interaction with GuestsAvailable by cell anytime. And we'll ensure we or someone trustworthy is available should you need anything. The NeighborhoodThis is the absolute best location for an easy breezy vacation or getaway. Walk or bike in any direction a half mile or less to the town green, the harbor, Jacobs beach, the Whitfield Museum, and the fairground. You can truly enjoy a week or all summer without going any further than walking distance. And if your like me and prefer to not cook, this place is all about the food...OMG, truly seriously good eats everywhere you turn. Around the charming and historic Guilford Green, you'll find incredible shops from browsing, basics, to splurging, thrift, gift and boutiques and don't miss Pages Hardware! And eateries abound that cover just about every desire -- from the best hash and eggs at Sunny side Up to exquisite desserts at Hen and Heifer. Grab coffee and a panini, sweets or a scone at Cilantro, Ice-cream and chocolate at the Village Chocolatier, a slice or a whole pie at Centro Pizza, or fresh deli and fresh provisions at the Guilford Market, or some tacos or fresh fruit salad off the food trucks. Experience cheese fondue and a wine flight at Ballou, excellent seafood and Italian fare at Quattro, a cold Guinness and corned beef at Augers, terrific Thai at Som Siam, or a range of wonderful American fare at South Lane. Pick up your beer and wine at our two liquor stores, or belly up to the bar or play pool at Sheppard's Tavern. The green hosts many music and theatre events and craft fairs, and on a non event day, it is a great place for a walk or a sit. Head to the harbor and take a tour boat ride from Bill around the sound, or bring a bottle of wine or beer and enjoy lobster roll and clam chowder at The Lobster Pound. Hear some local bands and have a local pint at The Mooring. Or for a meal with a view, simply pack a picnic and take a seat at the picnic tables at the harbor or at Jacobs beach. My favorite off-green food choices and still walkable are Buffalina for brick-over pizza and a terrific salad (best pizza ever!). Toast to your holiday with an excellent glass of wine sharing delicious appetizers and entrees at the Guilford Bistro. And for family fun, sit on a stump at The Place and let them do the bbqing for you (byob). Spoon up some yummy froyo at Sweet Frog or a savor a cone of fresh made ice cream at Ashlee's. The fairground kicks off the season with a Lobsterfest the weekend before the 4th, then is home base for a parade and fireworks around the 4th of July, and closes the season in September with the famous Guilford Fair. Look for other events in between. Guilford has numerous parks, and also a public 9-hole golf course. And if gold is your game, drive 10-20 mins in any directions and you'll land on a lovely course. No need to drive anywhere, but if you seek adventure: - The Thimble Island boat tour our of charming Stony Creek, just 15 mins south. - Neighboring towns of Branford, Madison, and Clinton, all have lovely greens, events, and countless things to do. - A day at the state park beach, Hammonasset, 15 mins north. - 30 mins north on the Connecticut River, The town of Essex, with the famous Griswold Inn for a great meal and music, and try our the Essex Steam train and Riverboat ride. - Perhaps you would like to take in a show at the Ivoryton Playhouse or Goodspeed Opera House, both feature great musicals and dramas. - 1 hour north is Mystic and Niantic, one big harbor town, one small, and both have great food, views and entertainment. - 20 mins south (or take the train) to New Haven. - Drive to north Guilford, Branford or Durham, and get farm fresh anything you can think of from local farms and farm stands. - And both Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods casinos are less than an hour away. - outdoor activities too many to list --- hike, kayak, boat, sail, to name only a few! If you enjoy "tastings", there are 4 local breweries, quite a few local stops on the CT wine trail, and a few cheese trail stops along the scenic drives in the area. There is just so much to do, I cannot list it all, but we'll leave you all our favorite "adventure days" and placed to dine at the house. Getting AroundAt our location, you don't need a vehicle or an Uber to enjoy Guilford and the CT coastline. And we are located walking distance to the train station which can be accessed from Boston or NY (And beyond). You can even take the local down to New Haven and visit Yale, or up to New London and take a day trip to Block Island or Orient Point in only 20-25 minutes. And the local train make stops at the many charming towns in between. The are bus routes that stop in town and go up and down route 1. The NeighborhoodI find the most wonderful feature of living in my home is that it is a hidden gem so close to town. Winding down the long driveway one truly enters another world far from the fast pace and stress of crazy busy living. Yet when I run out of milk or need to travel, I have the convenience of nearby stores and quick access to I-95. I've lived in Guilford since 1979 and love kayaking on Lake Quannipaug, hiking in Westwoods, or biking down to the Green and Harbor. Beach lovers can enjoy swimming in Guilford or nearby Madison and nearby Hammonassett State Park. Guilford attracts many artists, writers, musicians, professors, scientists and professionals who appreciate beauty and culture, and enjoy the Guilford Art Center's annual events and various festivals and concerts on the Green. Truly Guilford, a quaint and vital New England town, has so much to offer. Getting AroundGuilford is well connected and situated between New York, Boston and Providence. One can take the Shoreline East train from Guilford to Union Station in New Haven, then transfer onto Metro North to NYC; or go east to Saybrook and pick up an Amtrak train to Boston. Local shoreline buses run to and from New Haven, home of Yale University offering a host of free concerts, lectures, and world class galleries . Guilford Taxi is another option. Other Things to NoteMy long winding driveway has just been beautifully repaved. A new bluestone walkway now leads up to the burnt orange front door. In the backyard, a new stairway by the bedroom has been constructed, and a deck overlooking woodland gardens is on the way for spring! There is no land phone line in the apartment. We especially loved having breakfast on the sunny porch. We spent the weekend there with family who had come into town for a memorial service and it was a comfortable and welcoming space. Great location near a cute little town and access to local beaches. Only suggestion would be to leave more supplies such as toilet paper and garbage bags. The kitchen was very well stocked with cooking supplies, which was a great benefit since our guests did a lot of cooking from the house. You'll need to pack specialty cooking items but the basics are there. The deck in back was a beautiful place to sit and enjoy the morning and afternoon sun and to eat meals. Kitchen and porch were the real selling points of this house. + More August 2015 Helpful Mia This property was perfectly situated As we had a wedding in Branford and did not want to pay for three hotel rooms! Guilford is such a lovely town with a couple of coffee shops in walking distance and the shore is a quick jog away. September 2015 Helpful Enuma Lovely home--beautifully decorated and charming. With 8 people, it just wasn't enough and we had to go to the store almost immediately. I am sorry about the garbage bags and toliet paper. We ususally leave enough for Guest to start with. + More September 2015 Helpful Maureen What a lovely house! Plenty of room to spread out, all the comforts of home. Built on a rise, third house from the beach on a private road, our home has great views and privacy. Sitting on the upper balcony or lower deck, both spanning the length of the house, you can feel the gentle ocean breezes while listening to the birds sing and ospreys announcing they have caught a fish or watching butterflies and hummingbirds feed in our flower gardens. Welcome to our totally renovated stylized beach house where you will find custom window treatments, renovated kitchen & baths, designer fixtures, first class appliances and materials and wood flooring all put together in a comfortable and visually appealing way to make your vacation carefree and fun. Madison and its neighboring towns offer choices of supermarkets, farm stands, restaurants, movies & shopping. Explore the free Yale Gallery and British museum in New Haven thirty minutes away or the Clinton designer discount mall. There are many hiking and biking trails, public tennis and golf facilities and boat launches for canoeing and kayaking. My favorite morning walk is a two mile stretch from the house to the end of circle beach. Our home has three floors. The second floor master suite has a bedroom with a queen size bed, a large sitting room with a desk and window seat which could accomodate a blow up mattress , window seat and comfortable chairs for relaxing at the end of the day and a huge marble master bathroom with an oversized shower and Jacuzzi tub. Sliders open to the balcony in both rooms. We like to sit on the balcony in the evening because it feels like we are on the deck of a cruise ship. In the morning we have our coffee on the main deck, which has optional awnings for shade. The great room on the main floor is our main gathering place to watch the 50” screen TV, play games in the cozy corner, have conversations with family and friends or just to read. There is a powder room with an outside door to wash sandy feet. The large open spaces lead to the red, stainless and black eat-in kitchen with a fireplace and pantry. There are two bedrooms with a shared full bathroom. One bedroom has a queen bed and the second bedroom has two twin beds. The second br is currently being redecorated. The lower level, which can be used as an exercise room, has a divan that pulls out to sleep 2. All of the rooms are oversized and have wood floors. We have furnished our bedding with new premium sheets and duvets and pillows. Our towels are egyptian cotton. The pots & pans are made by Dakor. We own the short lane down to the beach, just steps away. When it is hot on Route 1, it is approximately 10 degrees cooler on our deck because of the gentle ocean breezes. We hope you enjoy our home.

The town of Madison, which is located on Long Island Sound, is a perfect destination for relaxing an exploring. Centrally located - New York City is 2 hours away while Boston is 2 ½ and New Haven twenty minutes. The train from the downtown station will connect you with all of these destinations, but why leave the quaint town of Madison. Stroll through the town center and you will find an Arts Cinema, the renowned RJ Julia ‘s independent bookstore, coffee shops, a cheese shop, International and American restaurants, boutiques, a library, outdoor sculpture by nationally renowned artists and a large grocery store. Joining us for the summer? As is typical of New England towns, there is a town green where you will find concerts, a farmer’s market, arts and crafts fairs and antique shows from May through September. On the 4th of July weekend, join the local fun watching the parade, relaxing at the Pops summer concert and watching the fireworks. Madison’s beaches, as well as, Hammonasset State Park (beach), have playgrounds, tables and grills for picnicking, sports fields and bocce/pétanque courts. (We will provide the pétanque balls.) There are trails throughout town where you can hike and a nature center for birding and learning about the local animals. There are a myriad of things to do for those cool or rainy days. You might decide to follow the Impressionist or the wine trial throughout Connecticut, or you might visit one of the many museums, go shopping, go to the theater, listen to live music or visit one of the gambling casinos.
