The SpaceAmazing views of the Quiet Corner of Connecticut await you. Come enjoy this retreat, fully equipped to "recharge your batteries" after your days of vacationing, researching, or conducting business. Being two miles from UConn and Storrs downtown, with easy access to public transportation, this location remains convenient while helping you feel that you've gotten away from it all. We hope you will love the natural feel of the wood as much as we do in our architecturally-unique home. Guest AccessThe apartment is equipped with its own modern kitchen, patio and deck areas, independent of the main house. The private, upstairs bathroom is right off the main bedroom and includes a tub and shower. The futon in the living room downstairs folds out into another queen-sized bed, accommodating additional guests. The half-bath downstairs is also private to our guests. The dining area takes in views from the south and west; the upstairs seating area looks south and east. High-speed wireless internet is available throughout the apartment. Interaction with GuestsThe apartment is attached to the main house, so we are only a text away should you need anything from us. Even though we are close by, your access to Ecohaven is private. Though we stock the fridge with some eats for you to enjoy on your first morning, we don't serve breakfast as part of this listing. There is a bulletin board in the apartment with brochures and menus from some of our favorite places to visit. Though this area is called the Quiet Corner, having UConn so close provides us with many culinary and cultural treats. The NeighborhoodLocated right next to the Spring Hill Historic District, our property is surrounded by the open space of UConn fields and Joshua Trust land. Walking along Route 195 is not recommended, but hiking along the Nipmuk Trail is! Our view rivals 50-foot, which is another vista along the Nipmuk trail, a short hike east from the house. We are two miles from downtown Storrs and the UConn campus to the north and Willimantic is not much further to the south. Storrs is located en route between Boston and New York City in the Quiet Corner of Connecticut. Getting AroundBicycle riding is pretty hilly around Mansfield, but the ride to UConn is gradual. The Willimantic to Storrs bus runs regularly and stops just a short walk away from the apartment. Two parking spaces on the property are available for free during your stay. Other Things to NoteThe apartment is a pet-free zone. Our dogs, Keepsie and Hawk, live in the main house and don't have access to the apartment interior or patio deck area. The apartment is equipped with energy-saving Nest thermostats and LED (warm) lighting. The house is oriented south, with few windows on the north side to maximize passive solar gain and keep the New England elements at bay. We encourage you to plug in your all-electric or plug-in hybrid vehicle to recharge its battery as you charge your own.

The SpaceThe bathroom is shared ONLY IF there are guests in the Lake Room too. Otherwise, your bathroom is private! We call our place The House in the Woods. The reason we fell in love with the house was the 73 windows...with no other house in view at all...and no roads going by our yard. We love the light...combined with the seclusion provided by the dense woods. Beyond that, we love the the ample kitchen; the relaxed breezeway; the comfy dining room and living room; the ceiling fans; the cozy fireplace; the decks on east and west; the gas grill; the brook and the pond; the "camp out" space (read campfire and picnic area); and the trampoline and covered (unheated) swimming pool. There is a large smart TV in the basement, as well as an elliptical machine and a weight bench and hand weights. Guests are free to use them, with prior arrangement. Guest AccessGuests are free to use any and all of these areas. We require a waiver for use of the pool and trampoline. If you'd like to cook a meal, you will find the kitchen well-equipped and easy to use. If you want hot dogs and s'mores, just let us know and we can usually get a fire going at the camping area. If you want to grill steaks, go for it! We do request that you clean up at least as well as a teenager when you're done. :) Business travelers may need office space, and if that's the case, we're happy to share one of the two offices in our home. In general, we are relaxed and easy about our spaces. Interaction with GuestsWe have fairly full lives, so may or may not be around much. We are not, however, intensely private people. We're open to interaction as you and we have time. If you're a private person, just let us know and we're happy to give you ample space and alone time. The NeighborhoodSooooo many choices in our area...a few listed here: *Adventure Park at Storrs has seven trails through the trees interconnected by zip lines, ropes, obstacles, challenges and fun! Unlimited climbing for 2 or 3 hours. Ages 7 and up. *The whole world knows that University of Connecticut has fantastic basketball. In addition, there's an ice rink, lots of exhibitions and shows, and plenty of ag-related things to see. *UConn's Dairy Bar serves up ice cream that's worth the trip on its own! Do. Not. Miss. This. *The Mansfield Drive-in Theater is a unique community asset. This is a great drive-in with 3 screens. There are two first run movies on each screen. Many people bring chairs and tables, sit outside and enjoy the summer night…when it’s summer. But that’s about all there is to do around here... Well, not really. It’s just all we managed to copy from the web! Getting AroundWe're a great location for someone with a car. But if you're coming on public transportation - try Uber! We use it occasionally when we don't want to park at the airport, and it's been wonderful for us. The ride from the Hartford airport is about $45. It'll be around $60 for a regular cab or car service. There is bus service to Storrs from almost everywhere, including New York City, and you could Uber from Storrs to the House in the Woods. In a pinch, we could pick you up. If you're a bike rider, you'll love our location. We're on back roads and they're lovely. Other Things to NoteWhen the sun goes down, we can usually be found relaxing in the swing or by the fire with a glass of wine. Feel free to join in. Or not.

Interaction with GuestsWeekends we are likely available and certainly reachable by phone. The NeighborhoodThose interested in early New England history may enjoy walking through Historic South Coventry. Old mills and churches have been turned into antique and collectible shops, and its history as an industrial center is still visible in many places. (Currently a lot of street construction and repair) Getting AroundCoventry is a quiet town and not on public transportation. There is ample parking everywhere. Other Things to NoteDon't let the driveway intimidate you. It looks long and scary, but there is lots of room at the top to park and turn around. History: The birthplace of Captain Nathan Hale, Coventry is home to the Nathan Hale Homestead, which is now a museum open to the public. The old center of the town is in South Coventry, near the intersection of Main Street (Route 31) and Stonehouse Road (Route 275). In the 19th century, there was a small industrial center including mills powered by the water from Coventry Lake Brook as it flowed towards the Willimantic River. South Coventry Village, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, also includes several Victorian houses, a museum, the main branch of the public library and the Bidwell Tavern, a bar/restaurant established in 1822. The Bidwell used to keep Coventry's town records in the 'vault' area behind the bar, as well as hosting town meetings.[3] A few doors away is the W.L Wellwood General Store, which under new ownership has been renamed 'Coventry Country Store'. The general store was originally built in 1787 making it one of, if not the oldest General Store in America (a past owner claimed to have not found an older store). In all, the area has over 100 historical buildings on the national register. Miscellaneous information: The center of North Coventry is at the intersection of Main Street (CT Route 31) and U.S. Route 44 (section officially known as the Boston Turnpike, but usually referred to simply as 'Route 44'). Near this intersection are two shopping plazas. The first contains a large Highland Park Market. One can buy most any type of common foodstuffs here, as well as freshly baked bread in the morning. This plaza also contains the Meadow Brook Package Store and the Coventry office of Rockville Bank. The second plaza had a NewAlliance Bank now a First Niagara Bank, as well as a CVS and a Dunkin' Donuts. Recently a Walgreens was added across the street from CVS.
