The SpaceThe uniqueness of this space is its location. It is embedded in an oak forest on a quiet road. No street nights, no car sounds, no close-by neighbors. It is beautifully peaceful and quiet. Deer roam the land as well as many armadillo, bunnies, squirrels, and even some gopher turtles. Owls can be heard at night and other birds during the day.
The cottage itself is two rooms. The common room has a small kitchen with a small frig, a freezer, two stove burners and a microwave. It also contains two twin beds, a small dining table with four chairs, a tv with satellite reception and internet connection. The bathroom off of this room has a shower. The second room is a bedroom with two twin beds that have been connected to make a king bed and three other beds. There is desk in this room and night tables and lamps by each bed. This room's bathroom does not have a shower.
Immediately outside the front door of the cottage is a picnic table and a few folding chairs for those who want to sit outside.
The city of Alachua is 5 minutes away and offers a great grocery store, some restaurants and little stores for various needs. Gainesville, a university town, is 20 minutes away and offers a huge selection of activities. Several gorgeous springs indigenous to north Florida are about 25 minutes north of us. The Temple of the Universe, which draws many beautiful visitors, is seven miles away. Guest AccessYou are welcome to access the entire cottage, the picnic table area in front of it, the land that surrounds it, and the gorgeous road on which it is situated that is beautiful for jogging, biking and walking. Interaction with GuestsI work very close by and live in a separate house on the same land as the cottage so I am almost always available to offer help throughout your stay! The NeighborhoodThis neighborhood is unique in that it situated on one of the oldest roads in Florida - Old Bellamy Road. Some of the houses date back to the the 1800's. Old Bellamy Road has been designated a scenic road which means it is kept up in its original form. Most of the neighbors live on hundreds of acres that were once farmlands so actual homes are not close. Getting AroundUnfortunately, there is not public transportation to Old Bellamy Road. You would need a car to get here. However, the city of Alachua offers a great grocery store (Publix), several restaurants and shops, fast food options, gas stations, medical facilities, and quick access to the interstate. Other Things to NoteOften, the GPS directs visitors to a point that is a mile past our driveway. I am not sure why. I am happy to provide specific driving instructions to find us. If you are arriving at night, I will leave a light on at the driveway entrance.
