The SpaceLocated in one of Jacksonville's nicest neighborhoods just south of Historic San Marco is what the locals know as the Duck Pond. Just a few doors from there is my place. This room has been my writing studio and office and has been converted to accommodate students, interns and other, mostly single travelers. The full size storage twin bed also has a trundle that allows for an occasional visitor or second traveler on shorter length stays.
This is a perfect location for students traveling for internships, rotations and summer jobs, business people traveling for work, visitors to our wonderful medical facilities and tourists. You are about twenty five minutes to the beach and to Mayo Clinic, ten minutes to Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital, and minutes to Historic San Marco, downtown and Riverside - where you will find St. Vincent's Medical Center, the sports complex, Nemour's/Wolfson's Children's Hospital, Ronald McDonald House, UF Medical Complex, Baptist Medical Center and clinics, along with assorted office buildings, clubs and restaurants.
Students have found the space comfortable while they stayed for 1 week to several months completing internships at local medical facilities and companies, and working on special projects with professors at University of North Florida. Access to a wireless printer in the room, as well as 5-G wifi helps with projects and work.
The proximity to downtown has also been convenient for business people in town for meetings and conferences. If it doesn't look there is availability, ask anyway - I have the ability to make some adjustments if there seems to be a conflict. Guest AccessThe only caveat is that you must love dogs. I live with two pups that love people and are quiet for the most part, though they do sound the alarm if another dog walks by or someone approaches the house. They take their job as watch dogs very seriously and once you are here you become part of the extended pack that they protect.
You will have access to an adjacent bath that is shared, though because my roommate travels 75% of the time, is usually private. You have use of my well tooled kitchen - refrigerator, cupboard for storing food and supplies a Vitamix - if it is important to you, you will know what this is ;-)), TV with Netflix and Amazon Plus; all the things you may need for any length of stay. The room is located on the opposite side of the house from the kitchen and the master bedroom, and doors to the guest area can be closed for more quiet or privacy. Interaction with GuestsI often work from home as a project manager, writer, professor, and entrepreneur so I can be available should you have questions, special requests, need some conversation :-), etc. Plenty of places to sit and read or relax are available. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is quiet and safe and there is secure parking in the back of the house, off the street. The street is also safe, if you are more comfortable with that.
If you are a runner, walker, or cyclist you can run, walk and cycle for miles any hour of the day or night without ever having to go near a busy or noisy main street, all the while feeling safe as you walk, run or ride through some of Jacksonville's most beautiful neighborhoods.
Have a specific question, need or request? Please ask. People move into this neighborhood and stay for a lifetime - once you experience it you will understand why. Getting AroundIf you are unfamiliar with the city, considered by some to be one of Florida's best kept secrets, this San Marco area is one of Jacksonville's oldest and nicest neighborhoods. Many of the people who live here have done so for a very long time or for generations. The homes are, for the most part, older homes that all have a great deal of character. The streets are wide and safe to walk and run and people look out for one another. It provides a relaxing environment and if more activity is needed you are within close proximity to some of the best restaurants, bars, clubs, museums and theaters you can find in the San Marco, Riverside, downtown area.
It is only a mile into the artsy San Marco village where there are shoppes, galleries, restaurants, coffee shops, clubs and bars. Another 2 minute drive and you are downtown with restaurants, clubs and museums, and in 5 minutes you are in Riverside, another of Jacksonville's interesting and artful communities.
Jacksonville covers a large geographical area - over 800 square miles - and things are spread out, so an auto is your best option. There is a bus stop at the end of the street, though this is better suited for people who may be in town for work, school, internships, etc. and who have more time flexibility. The buses do not run on the same frequency that you may be accustomed to in a larger city. Guests without a car have successfully relied on Uber or Lyft - you can usually get a ride within minutes. Other Things to NoteThis location is close to downtown in an extremely safe residential area. It is very close to many of the city's businesses so if you have a special situation that may cause you to be back in town regularly or are planning to be here for an extended stay, send me a message to see if we can make something work for you. I usually have some flexibility with other space in the house so don't let unavailable dates get in the way!
