Award-winning restaurants and wineries, unique shopping, Clayton and Dillard events & outdoor adventures are within a 10-mile radius. This treehouse-like cabin is nestled in historic, pastoral Wolffork valley. It features gorgeous views of the mountains and a mountain lake. Inside the cabin you can enjoy the lulling sound of water falls over the dam. Occasional sounds of ducks and geese talking to each other. At night, the rhythmic sound of frogs can be heard in the background. With these features, being here is an "other worldly" experience. Two locked closets (on the third and bottom floors) are reserved for the hosts' personal belongings. Wireless internet is provided and this area has fairly good cell service for major carriers. Guests drive on narrow gravel roads through the neighborhood and up a sloping driveway to park next to the cabin. Guests use gravel or concrete steps to access the cabin. Interaction with GuestsThe house is for guests to enjoy with some interaction with hosts. The hosts will come occasionally to provide routine maintenance on the house, when needed. If an emergency arises, contact the hosts to remedy the problem quickly. The NeighborhoodThe house is in a quiet neighborhood with gravel roads 5 miles north of Clayton. 4 miles south of Dillard. 15 miles south of Highlands, NC. It is about a 5-mile drive to grocery stores, local wineries, gourmet restaurants, and antique shopping. Popular outdoor activities in this area--hiking, golfing, cycling, fishing, horseback riding, zip lines, kayaking, tubing, and white water rafting. Hosts are happy to recommend local attractions. Getting AroundThe best way to get around is with a personal vehicle. Public transportation is not available. The neighborhood road leading to the cabin is covered with gravel and is narrow. The driveway to the cabin is sloped. A turn-around gravel driveway at the cabin provides free parking and relatively easy maneuvering of vehicles. There is no covered garage on the property. Other Things to Note*The cabin has a 40-gallon hot water heater. Although it's new, guests will need to stagger showers for adequate hot water. *Guests access the cabin via a cement or a gradual, gravel-filled stairway so rolling suitcases need to be carried. *When driving through the neighborhood to the cabin, don't be alarmed by the " no trespassing" signs. The neighborhood posted them to prevent outsiders from fishing and swimming in the lake. They are not directed at our paying guests. *There is a new high capacity window air conditioning unit in the loft area. When operating at the appropriate setting, it can cool the entire cabin. *The cabin is located in the mountains. There are various species of animals, such as ducks, geese, raccoons, and the occasional black bear near the property. It is important to keep food/beverages sealed and stored in the refrigerator and not left around the house and property. Food packaging and remnants must be stored & disposed of properly to discourage these animals from coming on the property.
