The SpaceYou walk into Dolphin Spirit House and are greeted with a breath taking view of Kealakekua Bay. This house is surrounded by beautiful tropical landscaping, designed by an award winning landscaper. The visual feast includes colorful, fragrant flowers and fruiting trees. You wake up in the morning to the sound of the birds singing and look out over the bay into the beautiful, healing waters and often times see the spinner dolphins frolicking. In the winter, you can also see whales breaching or guiding their calves in migration. In the evening you can enjoy the magnificent sunsets from the big, comfortable lanai, and fall asleep to the sound of the ocean at night. You feel as if you have entered a tranquil, spiritual retreat, because the owners of this house lived in an Ashram for thirty years and build it with sacred geometry and fung shui. Just minutes to world-class water activities such as snorkeling, diving, kayaking, stand-up paddle board, surfing and swimming. The ‘King’s Trail’ and other hikes are a short drive away and easy access. 6 miles to Paleakalu Peace Gardens where guests can take yoga classes or we have mats available for yoga on the lanai with the view. Ten miles to Ho’okena Beach and Mamalohoa Hot Tubs and Massage are about a 10 minute drive away, or have a massage therapist visit you in-home. The SpaceEdge of the World B&B -- Kona, Hawaii Aloha ! Thanks for thinking about staying with us. My name is Kurt. Our wish is that you will feel like you are staying with friends here in Hawaii rather than being cubed up in a hotel somewhere. We take the time with all of our guests to find out their interests and help them to build as tight or loose an itinerary as they wish -- emphasizing ocean, geological, archeological, nature, scientific, cultural, and/or social activities. As you will find, there is much to do on the Big Island, or, what we call, the "real Hawaii.". A large portion of our guests are return "customers" who come back to the Edge year after year. Many people use the Edge of the World as a base from which to explore the rest of the Big Island. Others use it as a place to watch papaya grow, and that's fine too. For Kana, my Japanese wife, and me, it is a genuine pleasure to meet folks from around the U.S. and from around the world. The Crow's Nest (called Best Ocean View in Hawaii Room) is on the second floor of the house and has a spectacular view of Kealakekua Bay and the Pacific Ocean. It has a private lanai, individual satellite TV, DVD, phone, private bath, refrigerator, wall to wall carpet, and king size bed. It is our most popular room and a favorite of honeymooners, artists and poets. It is $139 plus tax per night. This room may have the best view in Hawaii! When there are more than two guests per room, there is an additional charge of $15 per person per night. In those cases we put out Japanese style futons. The maximum capacity for each room is four. Also, I do not charge extra for one night stays. Prices include a hearty, tropical breakfast. We are also a member of the Hawaii Island Bed and Breakfast Association, and the Edge of the World has recently won the "Traveler's Choice Award" (B&B Registry), so guests can be assured of the highest standards. You'll also find A Beautiful Edge of the World recommended in the the Hawaii edition of the Lonely Planet. We are located on a five acre working farm, surrounded by macadamia nut, coffee, papaya, avocado, and mango trees. If you're a coffee drinker, you'll be served my own 100% pure, organic Kona coffee every morning.(Don't mean to brag about our coffee, but many folks have told us it's the best they've ever tasted. We wholesale to our guests, any quantity.) If you would like to try my own noni tea, just let me know. We also grow organic bananas, pineapple, guava, papaya, sour sop, Surinam cherries, atamoya, cheromoya, oranges, limes, sapodilla, and passion fruit, some of which you will be served with breakfast, depending on the fruits in season. There are also abundant beautiful flowers scattered here and there. Guests who stay for three days or more may use the microwave and refrigerator. We also offer free laundry service for guests who stay three days or more. We have complimentary hair dryers, beach towels and mats, limited snorkel equipment, and ice chests for our guests. Guests are welcome to use my computer for a quick check of their e-mail. We now have free WIFI throughout the house. Please let me know if you'd like me to reserve a room. Warm aloha, Kurt and Kana Guest AccessComplimentary beach and snorkel equipment, beach towels, hair dryers, refrigerator, microwave. Guests are welcome to congregate any place in the house, including a magnificent balcony that looks out over the ocean. . It's a great place to watch the sun go down. There's also a table in the garden area in front of the house for guests. Interaction with GuestsOn check in we give the guests a brief tour of what's available for them. The host almost always joins the guests after breakfast and over a cup of coffee he will make suggestions about things to see and do that may not be in "normal" guide books. Our aim is that you will have a truly exceptional experience on the Big Island and we do our part to help make that happen. Guests that wish may join the host, schedule permitting, for a tour of coffee, macadamia and various tropical plants. Learn about the uses of some of these plants by the ancient Hawaiians on your tour led by Dr. Weigelt. The NeighborhoodThere is a tremendous ocean view at this bed and breakfast. It's a rural setting -- Old Hawaii at its finest. No close houses, no highway noise, a wonderful variety of tropical trees and plants and birds. Peaceful to say the least. Yet, it's only five minutes drive to some fine and reasonable restaurants and a supermarket and a ten minute drive to some of Hawaii's finest snorkeling and hiking. Many guests like to get take away food from one of the nearby restaurants, swing by the supermarket and pick up some beer or wine or fruit drinks, bring it home and watch the sunset from the lanai. Getting AroundPublic transportation on the outer Hawaiian Islands is poor. Although there's the occasional bus, I'd very strongly suggest renting a car. Besides helping you get here, it will allow you to explore the intriguing nooks and crannies of the Big Island. You won't regret that investment. If you're from one of the countries that drive on the left side of the road, people drive quite courteously here -- you'll adjust quickly and painlessly. Other Things to NoteHawaii State taxes applied to your accommodation are 13.42%. While we wish we didn't have to charge this extra fee--we are required by the state to collect it for them. This is the only additional fee paid to the hosts after check in. There are no "single-night stay fees", no parking fees, no other fees of any kind. Regarding one night reservations, it depends on existing reservations for that particular room. One night reservations, with no additional fees, are often possible, but not always. Please ask.

Perhaps the best snorkeling in Hawaii is a mere ten minute drive from the Edge. Also, archeological sites, farmer's markets, and near by fine and inexpensive restaurants. Guests who stay for three days or more may use the microwave and refrigerator. We also offer free laundry service for guests who stay three days or more. We have complimentary hair dryers, beach towels and mats, limited snorkel equipment, and ice chests for our guests.. Guests are welcome to use my computer for a quick check of their e-mail. We now have free WIFI throughout the house. Rural Hawaii at its finest. Guest AccessComplimentary beach and snorkel equipment, beach towels, hair dryers, refrigerator, microwave.

The SpaceWelcome to South Kona, Big Island of Hawaii! I offer a private, ocean-view studio apartment on the garden level of a single-family home in a beachy, rural subdivision comprised of interesting custom homes. This self-catering studio is separate and lockable from the main house and has a private entrance via side staircase. Sleeps two guests max. I can take parties of--(a) one adult; (b) two adults; or (c) one adult and one older child. Two minutes drive to our own secluded, uncrowded, black-pebble beach with easy access to outstanding snorkeling, kayaking and swimming. Unlike beaches in town, it's very uncrowded here most days and you will probably have the whole beach to yourself. :) This property is located between mile marker 97 and 96 in South Kona. Spacious, cozy, clean, comfortable studio outfitted with all you need for cooking--including utensils, dishes, pots, pans, coffee grinder, even blender and a pancake griddle! NEW: Ultra-luxurious, certified organic King mattress by Nest Bedding with brand new platform. Also, pleasant cement patio outside: a picnic table, gas BBQ for grilling up that great island fish or island-grown beef. Save money on restaurants—eating out is pricey! Cook here at home. New patio chairs and table also outside. Please note: This is a setting quite off the beaten track, so if you are looking to walk to nightlife, convenience stores or Starbux, this location is NOT the place. If you want to see canopies of stars, hear birds and whales and the crashing surf, and be near premier, uncrowded snorkeling, well, that's more like us. Most guests love our rural location for just these reasons. At night, it's a safe, peaceful, dark, breezy and simply gorgeous out here. This is not a five-star resort room, nor should you expect it to be. It's a cozy, cottage-like, fully outfitted apartment in a mature, family neighborhood. A little bit funky, a little bit sweet, a lot homey, a lot comfy. I have no minimum required stay (except at Christmas and NY holiday weeks, which must be booked in a minimum 7-day block at Christmas and a 7-day block Christmas/New Years. Also, short-stay requests for too far in advance cannot be accepted. Otherwise, come for one night or come for 21! Our quiet subdivision is stair-stepped onto the dramatic, steep slopes of Mauna Loa, (the world's largest active volcano) creating commanding, 180-degree panoramic ocean views. This affords us vistas all the way to Kailua town 25 miles to the north. Clear horizon lines run 35 miles straight out to sea. Sunsets are extraordinary experiences on this part of the island, especially at our location and elevation. You feel like you are on top of the world --yet still close to the beach. Our leeward (Kona means "lee" or calm) side of the island is characterized by mostly dry, sunny weather year round, with a light increase in rain in the summer months. Average year-round temp is 80 degrees. Perfect. In winter, we can hear the raucous humpback whales from up here (November through April). Star-swept skies astonish. Cool elevation of about 750 feet means that ocean breezes keep us naturally comfortable all day, every day. We don't have the loud shrieking frogs that have invaded much of the rest of the island. Summer is calm and ideal for snorkeling, although it's a bit more rainy. The beach right below us is a pebble cove with protected bay. Snorkeling along the finger reefs here (in calm conditions) is excellent. Our beach is a TRUE best-kept secret. Shore divers love this area, also known for its abundant sealife, startling pinnacles and breathtaking coral gardens. (The Kona Aggressor dive charter parks just to the north of our bay.) Kayaking is premier and it's easy to launch (in calm conditions) from our paved beach parking lot. The beach is about two minutes away from me via a crazy steep road. You can walk it-- but driving is recommended. Hiking along the ancient King's Trail and to "Secret's" mini black sand beach is also accessible from the beach. Walk even farther north and reach the place we call the "Secret Grotto." Free use of my high-quality U.S. Divers snorkeling equipment (with signed waiver) beach umbrella, beach cooler & chairs, sunshades, reef shoes, surfwear, noodles, beach towels and beachmats. Free, reliable and fast Wi-Fi. Furniture includes brand new organic king size platform bed from Nest Bedding, end tables, dining table and chairs, sitting chairs and lamps, two dropleaf tables, two armoires for storage. Futon couch. New 19-inch flat screen/DVD player with a few good movies and a few B or C movies. :) We are on a self-sustaining rainwater catchment system here, so water conservation is requested and appreciated. Enjoy often spectacular sunsets in the evenings, amidst the sounds of hundreds of roosting mynah birds, (depending on the time of year.) It's tranquil and dark out here... a great location to experience the real vibe of Authentic Kona, Hawaii. Your hosts in the main house are friendly, longtime Hawaii Island residents with a Maltese dog and grumpy-faced cat. We are approx. 23 miles south of Kailua-Kona, about an hour south of the airport. With the new bypass open, we are under 30 minutes to Keauhou Bay. LOCAL DRIVING DISTANCES (North): We are 15 minutes south of Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park (the best preserved cultural refuge and ancient temple complex in the state) and "Two-Step," featuring outstanding snorkeling, said to be among the top three in the state. Twenty minutes from world- famous Kealakekua Bay--a pristine bay and protected marine reserve/underwater park great for swimming, dolphin sightings and whale-watching. Five minutes to the famed coffee belt of the Honaunau Valley. In short, South Kona is home to a great variety of different beaches and attractions all within minutes. We are about one hour and 15 minutes to the amazing Hawaii Volcanoes National Park with (currently) two live eruption sites. Punalu'u Black Sand beach, with an abundance of sunbathing turtles, is about 45 minutes south as are turnoffs for the Green Sands Beach and South Point. (a 12-mile access road takes you to within hiking distance of these spots.) It's about 12 miles north to the town of Captain Cook, with services such as gasoline, restaurants, grocery and banking. It's 45 minutes to Kailua or Keauhou if you DO want some nightlife, dining, bigbox retailers, sportfishing, golf, luaus or tennis. (NOTE: Food and other provisions are the responsibility of the guest and are not provided.) Hiring a car for mobility's and convenience sake is mandatory. My place is great for a single or couple who want a nicely located spot near the beach that's still in the West side tropical zone... but seek a setting well away from the retail, heat, tourists and bustle of Kailua town. Winter rates (November through April) are higher. Ironman week is higher. Christmas week (Dec. 29-26) must be booked as a minimum block. (Can be more nights; cannot be less.) Same with New Year's week. (Dec. 26 - January 2) There is a non-refundable, $85 cleaning fee and $180 refundable security deposit required. NOTE ABOUT TAX: Due on arrival. I must collect Hawaii excise and accommodation tax IN CASH of 13.45% on MY payout amount. I'll let you know this amount when you book. The collection of tax is mandatory and non negotiable. I can often take you last minute, or for a short stay so please enquire. NOTE: For security reasons, the AirBnB map here does not show my exact location, (mm 97) so if you want to know approximately where it is, just ask. Over 25 only please. I do ask that you complete your AirBnB Profile, especially if you have no reviews or references. I'm only interested in hosting self-sufficient guests who are quiet, courteous and respectful. Please read the listing carefully to make sure it's a fit before booking. This is rural Hawaii so you may see some harmless tropical bugs outside and rarely, but possibly inside. We work hard to keep bugs at bay through non-poisonous means. Sorry, no refunds on weather delays/flight cancellations or booking errors. If my long ramble has not answered all your questions, write with ANY and ALL questions about the place, location or its amenities, and I'd be glad to answer! Mahalo! and e komo mai! (Welcome). Once you book, and they release our contact info, I will email you the detailed guest info. I've hosted guests from around the world and enjoy introducing them to this wonderful spot. :) GUESTS SAY: SVENJA January 2015 10 Excellent "Perfect place for all activities that one can think , very good location, great beach . The SpaceA very nice bedroom with private bath in a very nice house in a very nice part of the Big Island. Stay on a small coffee/macadamia nut plantation. Enjoy your stay in Kona without breaking the bank. Price includes a big breakfast, use of snorkel equipment, wifi throughout the house. Truly magnificent ocean views of Kealakekua Bay. The room has a double bed and a twin bed. There's a nice view out the large window of the garden and orchard, and a wonderful skylight tor enjoying the stars at night. We have a table set up on the lanai to take in magnificent ocean sunsets. A great location for exploring the Big Island. Nearby you will find some of Hawaii's best ocean activities, nature hikes, and archeological sites (The Place of Refuge National Park is a ten minute drive). This is rural Hawaii at its finest, yet there are several fine (and reasonable) restaurants and a supermarket five minutes drive away. Guest AccessComplimentary beach and snorkel equipment, beach towels, hair dryers, refrigerator, microwave. Please note that one night reservations for this room depend on existing scheduling. One night reservations, with no additional fees, are often possible, but not always. Please ask.

Lovingly restored, this cottage features a 180 degree view surrounded by lush tropical flowers and looking out on an unforgettable sunset view. We promise you will love this amazing bedroom with its picture windows looking out on lush tropical flowers and trees--it feels like you are in your own private Swiss Family Robinson but without sacrificing on amenities. The windows look out on acres of tropical flowers and fruits like mangos, papayas and plumeria. The bedroom has a queen bed and separate sitting room that is perfect for curling up and reading about the fascinating history of this ancient part of the Big Island and its historic settlement by Captain Cook. In the distance is Kealakekua Bay, site of James Cook's first encounter with the people of Hawaii and later the place where he met his end. It is said that the bay is protected by the spirits of the alii, or chiefs, that led this proud nation prior to the arrival of the missionaries after Cook's discovery. The bath in this cottage was practically built for royalty--it features a large jetted tub -and marble surround as well as a separate shower and dressing area. The tub peeks into the bedroom and out onto the property through two windows that allow for tons of natural light and a great cross-breeze on tradewind evenings. The kitchenette is outfitted with a refrigerator, convection oven, two-burner hot plate, toaster, coffee maker, blender and microwave as well as a bar for two. The living room has a pullout couch that can provide additional sleeping space as well as a flat panel TV. The entire property features free wifi and additional services such as a dvd player are available upon request. We are a quick five minute drive from the famed "two-step" for the best snorkeling the island has to offer. We are always happy to answer questions and give you a tour of the farm (with advance notification). The NeighborhoodWe are located in the heart of the Kona coffee belt in historic Captain Cook, just outside of Kailua Kona. Our grounds overlook Pu'uhonua o Honaunau and the famed Two-Step. Centrally located for day trips to Volcanoes National Park, Green Sand Beach and Hilo, we are still close enough to Kona to enjoy the restaurants, shopping and nightlife. Captain Cook and the surrounding neighborhoods will give you a more authentic Hawaiian experience without skimping on luxury and convenience. Getting AroundWhile there is a bus its schedule is limited. We strongly encourage all of our guests rent a vehicle to enjoy all the Big Island has to offer. Other Things to NoteThe Sunset Cottage is a private cottage but it is an Ohana, which is a Hawaiian cottage attached to another house. The two are separated by a breezeway and the cottage has its own parking and private entrance. Recent update-we are currently experiencing a drought that, while it has minimized the threat of dengue fever, has the farm looking a little sunburnt. Thankfully it has only killed grasses and some more fragile plants and the grounds still have plenty of lush areas to enjoy. We are pleased to report that there are no existing cases of dengue and haven't had any in more than six weeks.

Interaction with GuestsWe are very open to interacting with guests. We are more than happy to give you your space and also very open to saying hello and "talk story" as they say in Hawaii when we can. We are not always available to talk for a long time as the farm keeps us quite busy as does some travel, but no matter what we always love to meet and greet when we are home. The NeighborhoodOur area is rich in its diversity of beaches, excellent snorkeling, proximity to the national parks as well as a great local grocery store and some good restaurants very near by. Getting AroundThe public transportation is poor here. The bus only loops the island on the main highway once or twice a day, so having a car is pretty essential for exploring and getting to the farm. Hitchhiking is not uncommon, but not ideal for reaching less traveled spots and getting about in a timely fashion, so we don't recommend it as your sole means of transportation. Other Things to NoteWe are an ecologically focused retreat on an island, so please be aware of your impact on the land and water during your stay and your potential to support the local economy versus larger corporate operations whose resources go elsewhere. We always encourage folks to shop local and explore what the authentic side of Hawaii can offer. There are many mom and pop businesses here and alot of farmers markets and fruit stands. Be mindful of the garbage you are producing and on the farm we ask folks to use non toxic, biodegradable personal products as well as composting and recycling.
