My family and I visited this beautiful home two weeks ago and it was more than we could have imagined! The property is stunning and the owners provided everything that you could think of! I would come back over and over again and stay even longer if I could! The home really allows you to unwind and relax the way you should while visiting Hawaii. Thank you Ali'i Zen Haven for an unforgettable time! Stephen B., Las Vegas, Nevada; October 7, 2014 "WONDERFUL" The house looked exactly like the picture. The sight from backward over looking the ocean is amazing. Twelve of my family members stayed at the house all ladies and we enjoyed the wonderful kitchen. We didn't have to want for anything, they had it all. If I go back I would rent this house again. Redlady45, Kansas City Missouri, September 2014 Our group of 12 ladies had a great time in HI. We enjoyed all the beautiful aspect of the house. I would recommend this house to friends. Allen Travel Group, September 2014 Heaven on earth Beautiful house with an outstanding view. Neighborhood not top notch, but certainly not an issue. Well equiped super modern kitchen. We were a family of 10 ranging in age from 15 to 73 and everybody enjoyed our stay. Super feedback from Ellen (the owner) who came up with a lot of inside knowledge as to dining, trips, hikes etc. The house was very clean on arrival and the pool, garden was kept in perfect condition. Overall a super stay and we can only recommend this property to anyone who wants to stay in heaven (for a while) Preben, August 2014 Kaneohe House Great house. Whoever designed it did a great job. Includes all the ammenities. Views are incredible. Little difficult to initially find due to its location, but once there it is fabulous John, June 2014 "Incredible stay, great rental property!" I had a group of 14 that came to stay at this property for vacation and everyone could not stop talking about how great it was. They literally have thought of everything, from Bluetooth music speakers, to usb charging outlets,to tiki torches, an extra bar and mini fridge, tons of beach and shower towels, and those are just some of the little things. They even had napkin rings for hosting a nice dinner. A general description of the property is a large house that has plenty of beds. It has a very modern look, large kitchen space and tons of seating and 7 tvs, including one outside (Perfect for bbq's). There is a swimming pool, hot tub, outdoor showers, a fire pit, two tables for outdoor dining, and a couple of lounge chairs for sun bathing. The pictures actually resemble the property, which I was a little scared of driving into the area. It is also gated, and has a large parking area for multiple cars. Another note is the property is very private, everything is fenced in. On one side of the property is a church, so there is no one there a majority of the day. The location of the house, is up a small hill, and not within walking distance of a beach. The view from the backyard of Kaneoahe bay is spectacular. Going in March, we ended up having great weather. Lots of sun and very little rain. All around a great stay, we were so pleased with this house, and the attention to detail that the owners put into everything. AJ A, Seattle, Washington; May 2014 Secluded Oasis This house was as near to perfect as you could get. There were 12 of us that stayed in the home (2 families) and at no time did we feel crowded. The outdoor seating and fire pit were amazing and were put to good use almost every night. Our kids enjoyed the pool and hot tub area any free moment they had and the older kids enjoyed laying on the patio chairs next to the pool for a little sun. We cooked almost all our suppers at the house and there was everything you could imagine very impressive. The house is relatively private and has a beautiful view of the bay the sunrises were amazing. The one small suggestion I would have is they should put some walking stones to the pool so the kids did not track in so much grass (mostly taken care of by the automatic vacuum in the pool). The best thing about the house was the location in moderate traffic you are 30 min from everything and only 5 min to the mall or grocery store. Darcy; Marwayne, Ab, Canada; April 2014 Perfect in every way! We stayed here over Christmas and New Years for a totally of 17 days and it's the most amazing home we've had the privilege to stay at. At one time we had a total of 15 family members and there was plenty of room for all and they were all amazed at the accommodations! We were very pleased with the information provided about the surrounding area and the property manager was very accommodating! Reggie; Donnelly, Idaho; April 2014 Perfect in everyway! As mothers and members of a workout group, we decided to plan a weekend getaway to focus on just ourselves for a change. This place was the perfect place to do that! The landscaping, the pool, the home, and amazing view was all so enchanting and beautiful. We are all from Hawaii and it was still such an amazing experience to wake up in the morning to the beautiful view which can be seen from every room in the house! The house had everything we needed from large beach towels, serving dishes, and high end blenders and spices. Every single one of us felt rejuvenated and ready to take on our motherly duties after leaving here. You will not be disappointed with your stay and you will be dealing with wonderful owners, who are awesome and very professional. We will definitely tell everyone about this place!! Elika; Hauula, Hawaii; March 2014 Amazing and beautiful This house is exactly as the pictures depict. Any question or issue we had was handled promptly by the property manager or the owners. This house is top of the line in every way. We had 9 people ranging in age from 17-82 and it was wonderful. The bay is not accessible from the house, but the beaches are a short 10-min drive away. The view from dawn to dusk is stunning. Happy Visitor; SLC; January 22, 2014 Fabulous Stay My husband and I stayed here with our twin daughters, two friends, and a nanny. It was absolutely perfect for our needs. The house is modern, clean, and fully loaded with all essentials. We loved that the location was in a neighborhood and not in the main tourist locales. We were about 30 min from Waikiki and an hour from the North Shore. The outdoor areas at the house were great for enjoying the good weather. No complaints about this property! We'll be renting it again if we ever go back to O'ahu. Iman; Houston, TX; Decemb(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Perfect! My husband and I and 4 other couples stayed at the Ali'i Zen in December 2013. Initially I was concerned about the weather on the windward side in winter, but we could not have had better weather, sunny and calm every single day. The house and yard were beyond our expectations. The beds, bedding, towels, and decor are comfortable and tasteful throughout. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything you can think of, and the appliances are all high end. The majority of our time was spent in the outdoor lounging area, the hot tub, and the pool. I would definitely stay here again. I can think of nothing that could be done to make this place better. Girl named Julie; Minot; Decemb(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) The house is great, makes you feel like home, Great place to stay, location is great, great place to go any site. Mark Wu; Kaohsiung; Decemb(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN) Amazing property! Owners did not spare anything for the home, furnished well and I'm definitely coming back Serge; Orange County; October 2, 2013

The SpaceThe guesthouse is located on our family property, in the small special area known as Hakipu’u. We live in another home on the property, which includes our 2 acre flower and goldfish farm, RainGarden Ornamentals. Walk down the lush garden path to look out at Chinaman’s Hat and Kaneohe Bay from our private beachfront. From the house you look out through trees and tropical landscape. The property is a bird lovers dream; we have two peacocks (pikake), and other assorted feathered friends that roam the farm . Songbirds call, especially in the morning from nearby Monkeypod trees and a couple of jungle fowl roosters will most likely crow too. My favorite song is that of the shama trush, they will often perch nearby as if they are curious about you. Our beachfront is not the best swimming beach but you can paddle out 5 minutes to a lovely sandy beach that provides a nice walk past “Secret Island” to Kualoa Beach Park. There is a flat bottom canoe and two stand-up paddle boards at our beach for your use. The main reef is approximately 1 mile out providing a very large safe area for exploring. You can even paddle out to Chinaman’s Hat and hike to the top of the Island or enjoy snorkeling at patches of coral reef inside the Bay. The single-family plantation home was built in the 1940's- she shines with her history as well as updates. The bedroom has a queen size bed and fold-down chaise. In the side room is a large twin daybed, dining table and built-in desk with large screen TV. The kitchen is open into the living area which has a couch, chairs and a coffee table. The furniture was chosen with style as well as RELAXATION in mind. The kitchen is well equipped, but if you don't feel like cooking there are a few restaurants and lunch wagons nearby. Just down the road is 'Waikane Store' with homemade local snacks and a few basic groceries, 'Waiahole Poi Factory' serves Hawaiian Plate Lunch, or at Kahaulu’u is 'Mike’s' HuliHuli chicken - you can even purchase as 'take-out' a whole chicken or other main courses for your dinner; Uncle Bobo's is a very casual restaurant just north in Ka'a'awa with great food. The house has one bathroom with an antique cast iron tub. There is an outdoor shower, next to the house, which is perfect for when you come up from the beach. The backyard is lush with various gardens, flower production areas and goldfish ponds. We will be happy to give you a tour of our production areas during your visit. Hawaii is the tropics, so you may encounter an occasional gecko (considered good luck by many). Our property is in a very lush area of the Island, so we do sometimes have mosquitoes (repellent and outdoor candles provided). The house is well screened, but you do need to keep the screens closed. We want to make your stay perfect and we want to be sure you are prepared for a true Hawaiian stay! Down at the beachfront is a covered structure with porch furniture, sink and gas grill…a great spot to enjoy the views, unwind and enjoy a cold drink or meal. Upon arrival you will find arrangements of fresh tropical flowers from our farm. Also wanting to 'show off' some other Hawaiian grown products; you will find an array of locally grown fruits, coffee, sugar and even North Shore grown chocolate to greet you on arrival. We look forward to welcoming you to our guesthouse, 'E komo mai'! Guest AccessYou will be welcomed to make yourselves at home. Interaction with GuestsWe will respect your privacy but are also glad to chat, share information and history about our property and farm. The NeighborhoodHakipu'u is a special area, considered sacred by the Hawaiians. It is a peaceful area...sitting down at the beach you cannot help but relax. Getting AroundThe city bus #55 stops near the house, but a rental car is recommended. Other Things to NoteIt is the tropics so best to keep food items sealed up so as not to attract ants and keep your crunchy food crunchy. We have plenty of Tupperware, plastic bags and a large refrigerator for storage. W(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)

We basked in every minute we could here...it was hard to leave to go exploring:) Perfect Guest Katherine Date of stay 03/01/14 Review Submitted 03/12/14 I'm not sure there are enough superlatives for this house, this view, this experience. The photos are absolutely accurate- it IS really that beautiful. I feel very lucky to have been able to stay here and I WILL be back. Rent this amazing home! You won't be sorry! Guest jackie l. (Minneapolis, MN) Date of stay 12/13/13 Review Submitted 01/21/14 Loved, loved, loved our stay at Happy Haole Hale. I cannot describe the absolute beauty of the view from the lanai. My husband and I prefer to rent homes vs. staying in hotels (we stayed in Waikiki for business for 3 days) and stayed 5 in Happy Haole Hale. Although we stayed in a beautiful highrise penthouse in Waikiki (not on our dime only for business) we would have rather spent the entire time here. The home itself is a cross between a luxury tree house and Gilligan's Island retreat that will make you wish you were shipwrecked on this beautiful island and staying in this home. The detail and care that went into building the home were so appreciated--wonderful woodwork, views, bedrooms, kitchen, appliances, the list goes on. We made every meal except for one in the beautiful kitchen. The location is excellent (the lush tropical side of the island) and we traveled easily with our rental car around the island. We did not hear any street noise and although there are neighbors it was a quiet, peaceful location. The photos of the home are beautiful but don't compare to experiencing it in person. Everything was spotless and well supplied. The owner lives on the property and she is a delight, however she gives you space so that you don't even know she's there unless you have a question. We felt like the home was very private and secure. My husband and I have stayed in wonderful homes in Belize, St. John, and other locations, and this was my favorite. It worked for just my husband and I, however I'd love to bring the rest of our family someday as it has plenty of room. Be sure to venture over to the beaches nearby and to Kailua Ranch--both are so close and a wonderful experience. I can't say enough positive things about this vacation rental--if you stay here, you will surely feel the same. The Perfect Location for Wedding Central Guest Sheck (Portland, Oregon) Date of stay 03/21/13 Review Submitted 04/05/13 The last time my wife and I visited Oahu was back in 1970 when I met her for my R&R while serving as an infantryman in Vietnam. Back then we spent our week in Kauai since we were looking for a quiet place on one of the other islands. We had no idea how spectacular the east side of Oahu was with the Koolau Mountains and sandy beaches. So, when my youngest daughter announced her Oahu wedding plans to us last year that she would be marrying a musician in the US Navy's Pacific Fleet band at the Kauai Gardens (Don't miss their Sunday Brunch!) on the east side of Oahu, I asked my oldest daughter to find a house for six people near the Gardens. She succeeded beyond any of our expectations with the Happy Haole Hale! We were amazed by the website photos which were only reinforced once we arrived. I can't add too much to what has already been said in earlier reviews. The Bali-style architecture is wonderful and the view across Kaneohe Bay is spectacular. My sister and husband enjoyed the 2-person kayaks and paddled across the bay and along the shore with the campground and park to Chinaman's Hat a couple of times. On their last trip they were able to view some sea turtles. Don't miss Kailua and Lanakai beaches about 1/2 hour away, and be sure to visit Kahuku on the north shore where there are several shrimp trucks/shacks. I also recommend Uncle Bobo's for BBQ brisket just up the road a few miles on the left. Check out the "Oahu Revealed" guidebook for other eating places on the island. Shelby was a gracious host and can also help with info about other places to go. My only regret is that wife and I had only one day of "free time" since all the pre and post wedding activities consumed most of the six days we were in Oahu. One final note. One of the most amusing things we saw one night was one of the resident geckos sipping some red wine out of a wine glass. He seemed to enjoy the libation...Be nice to the geckos since they eat bugs, and if you hear strange clicking sounds, that's them. May all future visitors to this special place enjoy it as much as we did! Aloha. Paradise! Guest Shirley (Hampshire UK) Date of stay 02/02/13 Review Submitted 02/17/13 I know it has all been said before but I feel I want to say it again! This place is truly Paradise. We have been lucky enough to travel all over the world and to have stayed in some amazing places but nothing quite like Happy Haole Hale. As someone who works in the travel industry I know the pitfalls and am very fussy. I have never stayed in such an immaculate property. Everything was spotless which with so much white fabric takes some doing! The property is beautiful. We loved sitting EVERYWHERE! We would sit in bed and watch the sunrise, when we made ourselves finally get up we would sit in the garden and have breakfast, we would make ourselves get up and go out. Then we would come back and have dinner in the magically gazebo then make ourselves move to the lanai for drinks before returning to bed. We had all the doors open and just loved the breeze. Living in the UK we love fresh air (which is somewhat colder here!) the tradewinds were wonderful. We took the Kayaks out in the bay and had a picnic on the sandy beach just across the way. We saw a turtle and manta ray on the way! Not staying in Waikiki was the right decision for us but at just over 30 minutes away we did go there for dinner a couple of times and watched the sunset which was lovely. Being on this coast worked for us as we wanted to visit the Cultural Centre and see the HA Breath of Life show which is excellent. We also wanted to see the Turtles on the beach at Turtle Beach and visit the North Shore. We loved the shopping in Haleiwa (had to pay excess baggage with all the treasures I bought!). Kualo Ranch was great. We went riding and did the one hour Movie Tour which was well worth doing. We visited Pearl Harbour and also greatly enjoyed the submarine trip from the Hilton. The most amazing trip was swimming with the Sharks with North Shore Shark Experience - this was totally awesome and highly recommended. We also enjoyed seeing the whales on the shark trip and from the beach. Oahu is a perfect place with something for everyone. Happy Haole Hale is a percet place to see it all from. Shelby is a truly lovely person, nothing is too much trouble. She has created a gorgeous, artisitc home and you do truly feel you are at home. I like others before feel half reluctant to share this magical propoerty in case we can't get in when we are able to return! But that would be mean! Shelby we will be back! PARADISE Guest Darlene A. Date of stay 01/19/13 Review Submitted 02/09/13 Our family of four adults and three children under 11 recently stayed at Happy Haole Hale for six nights of paradise. This was our first trip to Hawaii and this fantastic bali-style home, stocked with every amenity you could imagine, made our stay in Oahu perfect. Situated in a very quiet community half-way between Honolulu and the North Shore on Kanoehe Bay made it an easy drive to all the beaches and attractions Oahu has to offer. We enjoyed sunrises over the Pacific, views of Chinaman's Hat from our back deck and fresh oranges from the front yard every day. The kids had fun playing tether ball and relaxing in the hammock in the gazebo. Just minutes down the road is the Macadamia Nut farm and the Kualou Ranch, Polynesian Cultural Centre where you could spend the whole day, and the North Shore Banzai pipeline if you are lucky enough to see some of the big waves. There is so much more to see and do, but everyone will have to experience it for themselves to truly appreciate Hawaii. This house was not just a rental, if was HOME and we had a hard time leaving it. Many thanks to Shelby who was available for anything we might need or just to help us have the best time possible on our vacation. Also Bob, and neighbour Eugene made us feel like we belonged, not just tourists. I forgot to mention the other guests living in the house, you will probably see the occasional gecko on the walls, but they are kind of cute and they won't bother anyone. We would recommend this home to everyone who wants to get out of the hustle and bustle of busy cities and relax in quiet and peaceful surroundings. We also hope to return some day. We miss the sunrises! Guest Jill (Manchester, Connecticut) Date of stay 10/07/12 Review Submitted 10/23/12 Not much more to say about this house than has been said by previous visitors. It really does have a spectacular location, a lovely landscape, lovingly designed rooms with artwork and fixtures that make it feel less like a rental property and more like a cherished island home. We were two couples traveling together, so there was more than enough space for us. There are comfortable beds, a great kitchen, and plenty of room to stretch out and do nothing. Even if you look at the pictures, you will be thrilled when you actually arrive for the first time — and always happy to come home to it after a day of activities or exploring. We only had four short days here, but still managed to enjoy the relaxing views, inspirational sunsets and even some stargazing. Thank you Shelby for creating this perfect island hideaway. Heaven! Guest MauiMainlandMisc (Maui/CA) Date of stay 09/20/12 Review Submitted 10/08/12 Our family of 6 adults stayed here for a long weekend to attend a wedding. We had read a reviewer or two online state that they were hesitant to post because they didn't want others to find out about this place; and now we totally understand why. This property is heavenly and it's natural to want to keep it to yourself. It is out of the congested hustle of the densely populated beach towns, and the extra 10 minute drive brings you to this amazingly and lovingly designed and maintained peaceful piece of paradise. The pictures are beautiful, but don't give away the whole property- which allowed us to be so very pleasantly surprised when we arrived. This property isn't for you if you want to be in the middle of the action, walk to restaurants and shops or be on or near a hot sandy beach with waves. And because this seems to be a peaceful neighborhood and the home is clearly lovingly furnished and maintained, I wouldn't suggest this place for a group that plans to rage and party late into the night and trash the house. We were looking for a place where we could relax, take a deep breath, and be immersed in all that is lovely and restoring about being on Hawaii, and this was the perfect place. The area is lush and green and cooler than Honolulu or Kailua. It is on a bay, so the water is perfect for a kayak or swim. I do feel like we are sharing a secret in reviewing this magical home, but it's just too special not to share. We are grateful that the owner shares this home and we just can't say enough good things about this place, and the people, and we all hope to be able to return here together in the very near future. The vacation spot of a lifetime. Guest Cynthia E. (Trussville) Date of stay 07/22/12 Review Submitted 08/12/12 This was the first trip to Hawaii for my son and I and we couldn’t have stayed in a more beautiful location. The home and grounds are stunning and the view is amazing. Shelby was a wonderful hostess and great at suggesting places to visit. You are away from the crowds, but every place you can imagine to visit on O’ahu is within close proximity. A few of my favorite things: Sitting on the porch with a cop of tea (or coffee) watching the sun rise (pure serenity). Kualoa Park (just up the street from the house). The HA Breath of Life performance at the PCC (a must see). The hike to the observation point at Diamond Head (wear or take good shoes, flip flops aren’t good, no matter how comfortable you think they are). The drive along Hwy 72. Pearl Harbor. Byodo-In Temple (Valley of the Temples, just up the street). We couldn’t see everything we wanted to within a week,so we’ll just have to make another trip back. I can’t wait :)

We are considerate of our neighbors and appreciate your being considerate too. We have posted Quiet Hours of 8pm to 9am. You will undoubtedly encounter these pests during your stay and understand that we make our best efforts to hold to an absolute minimum your interaction with them. Contact with a pest inside or outside of your rental is not reason for termination of this Agreement nor is it a reason for a refund of your monies. • Cancellation Policy Guest may have a full refund less 20% up to 90 days of booking date. After that time guest will only receive a refund less 20% if we are able to rebook their dates. • Security Deposit The Security Deposit covers: Accidental damage—not normal wear and tear. The SpaceThis little cottage sits steps away from the Pacific Ocean and also serves as my daughter's artist's cottage when not being rented. You can listen to the waves lapping against the sea wall as you fall asleep at night. Note that the house sits on the bay; there is no beach. Guests have access to the entire property, so they can sit in the backyard and greet the sunrise, look for turtles, or just enjoy the soft breezes coming off the bay. The cottage does not have a TV but there is WI-FI and I've got a fairly extensive DVD library which you're welcome to borrow from; there are also coffee/tea making facilities, a small fridge, microwave, convection toaster oven and hotplate in the kitchen. I am the owner and live in the main house on the property. I was born and raised in Hawaii and would be happy to answer any questions you may have or give suggestions and directions for activities. This is a safe, quiet, residential neighborhood, great for walking in the cool of the morning or early evening. Kaneohe town is about a 25-30 minute walk away (or 5-10 minute drive). Downtown Honolulu is 30 minutes by car, and Waikiki is about 45 minutes. This studio cottage is 438 square feet and can accommodate 2, but please note it is just a simple double futon bed. The futon is slightly smaller than a standard mattress with box springs, measuring just over 6 feet long by about 4.5 feet wide. Guest AccessGuests will have access to a single and a double kayak; DVD library; WI-FI; coffee/tea making facilities, small fridge, microwave, convection toaster oven and hotplate in the kitchen; and, of course, the Pacific Ocean. Interaction with GuestsI will try to be present when you arrive. Otherwise, I'm happy to answer questions, chat and get to know you, or just leave you alone to enjoy your stay. The NeighborhoodWe live across the bay from the Kaneohe Marine Corps Base Hawaii. That being said, there is sometimes plane or helicopter noise. It is usually not excessive and is mostly during the day. However, I never know when the Marines will be playing with their jets so if you experience any aircraft noise just know that it isn't likely to last very long. We also have 3 cats on the property and one small dog. The animals are not allowed in the cottage (in consideration of possible allergies for the guests). The dog spends his time indoors or at my mom's house. The cats are, well, cats. They are friendly and aloof in the same breath. Getting AroundI highly encourage you to have a car, and there is parking. It's about a 25 minute walk to the bus stop, so it's not convenient to rely solely on public transit. The walk to the bus is also hilly and over uneven terrain. Other Things to NoteThis is a detached cottage but it sits close to the main house so I would consider it semi-private. We have to walk past the cottage to get to our front door. Our kitchen windows are fairly close to the cottage windows, and we try to be cognizant of this fact when using our kitchen at night or in the early morning hours to cause you as little disruption as possible.

The SpacePlease note: The cottage is currently (mid-May) undergoing a significant renovation in time for early June guests. Beautiful ceramic tile floor throughout, brand new kitchen cabinets, granite countertops (with three times as much counter space), under cabinet lighting, brand new full-size fridge, brand new bathroom fixtures! New photos will be posted in early June... Just seven minutes' drive to stunning Kailua Beach, this very large, bright cottage is a completely self-contained, private space located in a tranquil, lush, tropical jungle setting at the back of the house, which sits at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. Feel completely nestled in and surrounded by gorgeous trees and greenery. Wake up to morning birdsong from your gorgeous back yard and preservation park surrounding your home. Be truly at one with nature, the rustling wind, the refreshing rain, as you sink into the peaceful beauty of this tranquility. Feel free to enjoy the back yard for your meals, yoga, or meditating. Fabulous central location two blocks from Kaneohe Bay Drive and city bus stop. Minutes to Kailua beach. Easy access to H-3, Likelike and Pali Highways. Minutes from grocery stores, restaurants and all the amenities you need. The cottage is 600 square feet and has a private wrap-around lanai (porch) enclosing 2 sides. You get a peek of gorgeous Kaneohe Bay from the lanai. The private back yard that leads to the jungle is all yours to enjoy. The way the unit backs onto a private jungle preservation area and is set so far back on the property, you have only partial sight of one neighbor. It is so quiet back here that you will not hear any traffic noise or urban clamor. The space includes a very comfortable queen size mattress on a new mahogany bed base. Please note that this is a very good quality mattress, but it is a little on the soft side. Comfortable pillows include two fabulous new reversible memory foam/gel memory foam pillows. From the new mahogany high-top dining table, enjoy the jungle view as you dine. The main house (where we live) is in the front of the property and overlooks the bay. A laundry room, that is available for your convenience, separates the two homes. The kitchen has a mini fridge, induction hot plate, electric grill, coffee maker and microwave. The bathroom has a huge walk-in tiled shower with great water pressure. There is no TV in the cottage. You will have free wireless broadband internet access. This rental is also not suitable for children. In the interest of full disclosure, bugs are part of living in Hawaii, as are other creatures who visit from our jungle. The occasional cockroach is not a sign of sanitation problems. You also might see a cane spider (large, but not poisonous.) You will also very likely see geckos both inside and outside, and possibly hear wild pigs in the jungle, neither of those is dangerous. We do see a couple of centipedes a year, and their bite is painful, so make sure you check that your closed-toe footwear is uninhabited before putting it on. All of that being said, we can guarantee that the place is super clean, and you certainly don't have to worry about being infested! Roosters are still legal to own for fighting or pleasure in urban, residential neighborhoods in Hawaii. They also live in the jungle, and have been known to wander closer to the property and on occasion even crow at odd hours, including in the middle of the night. So, part of the reality of living next to the jungle is being comfortable with the often unpredictable behavioral patterns of the variety of jungle wildlife. Good news is, there are no snakes in Hawaii!! And you will love waking to the symphony of wonderful birdsong in the morning. If in the unlikely circumstance that any wilderness or animal sounds do get too intrusive, please feel free to close the windows and use the white noise sound machine in the closet, which will drown out any unwanted noise. We can accommodate Japanese speaking guests as we both speak Japanese. Nihongo demo douzo. Guest AccessYou have off-street parking for one car on the flat concrete driveway on the side of the house. Please note that the path from your driveway parking space to the cottage entrance at the rear of the property is not fully paved. There are concrete stepping stones leading the your entrance (see pictures), so roller luggage can be lifted and carried, but cannot be rolled. Feel free to enjoy the (aging but still operational) elliptical machine in the garage, as well as the boogie boards, beach chairs, tennis rackets and other play equipment. Interaction with GuestsWe understand that the travel and vacation experience is a very personal one, and know that each and every traveler has a unique way they want to have that experience. So, we allow our guests to dictate whatever level of contact and interaction they want to have with us. If you want total privacy with no interaction, you've got it. If you want to pick our brains for local tips, advice and recommendations, we are equally happy to oblige. This is your vacation -- make it what you want! The NeighborhoodFabulous central location 2 blocks from Kaneohe Bay Drive and city bus stop. Seven minutes to Kailua beach. Easy access to H-3, Likelike and Pali Highways. Five minutes from grocery stores, restaurants and all the amenities you need. NOTE: This is an extremely quiet street in an older established neighborhood, filled with mostly elderly people who have owned their homes for 30-40 years. Our vacation rental is also a very quiet one. It is imperative that we have our guests' cooperation in keeping it peaceful. If you are someone who wants to be loud, have more than a few drinks, party or let loose in any way, laugh and talk raucously (day or night, but especially at night), then this is not the rental place for you. You would be happier in and better suited to the Waikiki vibe. Our ability to host future guests, and the success of neighborhood vacation rentals in general, are dependent on the happiness and blessing of the neighbors. Getting AroundWe are located an easy 20-minute drive from Honolulu International Airport. Please see the directions for a (website hidden) map link and detailed driving directions. You have off-street parking for one car on the flat concrete driveway on the side of the house. The windward side offers the true island paradise experience. From the stunningly beautiful turquoise beaches to the Jurassic Park-like Ko'olau mountain range with its sheer, incredibly steep cliffs covered in lush vegetation, this is the best that Hawaii has to offer. There are four, different, world-class beaches within a 15 minute drive. There are tons of hikes where you can see waterfalls, mountain ranges, breathtaking ocean views, gorgeous flora and fauna, and humpback whales (during the November-April season). You are also about 50 minutes from the funky North Shore with its huge waves in winter and great swimming and snorkeling in the summer. Honolulu (known to the locals as "town") is an easy 25-minute drive over the Ko'olau mountain range. It is definitely easier to explore the whole island by car, but we have had guests who use the city bus to get around. We are two blocks from the bus stop servicing the #56 bus route, which will take you into Kaneohe town, Kailua town, and into Waikiki/Honolulu. Other Things to NoteImportant: Please note that your total charge includes tax of 13.962%, comprised of 4.712% GE (general excise) tax and 9.25% TAT (transient accommodations) tax, as required by Hawaii state law for short-term vacation rentals. The guesthouse is located on our family property, in the small special area known as Hakipu’u. We live in another home on the property, which includes our 2 acre flower and goldfish farm, RainGarden Ornamentals. Walk down our lush garden path to look out at Chinaman’s Hat and Kaneohe Bay from our private beachfront. There is a flat bottom canoe at our beach for your use as well as 2 stand-up paddle boards. The main reef is approximately 1 mile out providing a very large safe area for exploring. You can even paddle out to Chinaman’s Hat and hike to the top of the Island or enjoy snorkeling at patches of coral reef inside the Bay. The single-family plantation home was built in the 1940's- my husband and I have enjoyed restoring and updating the house. The bedroom has a king size bed and fold-down chair/chaise. In the side room is a large twin-size daybed, dining table as well as a built-in desk with large screen TV. The kitchen area is open into the living space which has a couch, chairs and coffee table. The furniture was chosen with style as well as RELAXATION in mind. The kitchen is well equipped, but if you don't feel like cooking there are a few restaurants and lunch wagons nearby. Just down the road is "Waikane Store" with homemade local snacks and a few basic groceries, "Waiahole Poi Factory" serves Hawaiian Plate Lunch, or at Kahaulu’u is "Mike’s" HuliHuli chicken - you can even purchase as "take-out" a whole chicken or other main courses for your dinner, there is also a food van selling Thai food; Uncle Bobo's is a very casual restaurant just north in Ka'a'awa with very good food. The house has one bathroom with an antique cast iron tub. In addition there is a large outdoor shower, with changing area, which is perfect for when you come up from the beach and gazing up at the stars at night. The backyard is lush with various gardens, flower production areas and goldfish ponds. We will be happy to give you a tour of our production areas during your visit. Down at the beachfront is a covered structure with porch furniture, sink and gas grill…a great spot to enjoy the views, unwind and enjoy a cold drink or meal. Hawaii is the tropics, so you may encounter an occasional gecko (considered good luck by many) and other insects. Our property is in a very lush area of the Island, so we do sometimes have mosquitoes (repellent and outdoor candles provided). The house is well screened, but you do need to keep the screen doors closed. We want to make your stay perfect and we want to be sure you are prepared for a true Hawaiian stay! Upon arrival you will find an arrangement of fresh tropical flowers from our farm. Also wanting to 'show off' some other Hawaiian grown products; you will find an array of locally grown fruits, coffee, sugar and even North Shore grown chocolate to greet you. We look forward to welcoming you to our guesthouse, 'E komo mai'! Our cancellation policy is listed as "strict", however please read our "house rules". Our House Rules state that if we are able to re-book your dates, you will receive a full refund. If you prefer to pay by check or PayPal, please contact the owner: Kathleen McGovern-Hopkins (808) 294-1921 McGovernHopkins@hawaii.rr.com If you haven't stopped for groceries at the Safeway, there are others too: Times Supermarket on Kahekili Hwy is the closest. In Kaneohe is another Times, also a Foodland. In addition, we have Whole Foods and Down to Earth (Health Food store) in Kailua If you are looking for a Costco, the closest and least crowded is in Hawaii Kai. The SpaceWhen you come to Villa Lihikai, at the very tip of a peninsula jutting into beautiful Kaneohe Bay, and close the tall gates behind you, you will have travelled like Gauguin as if onto a remote Pacific island of your own, and back to a time before statehood and jet planes made Hawaii a mass tourism destination. No home on Oahu offers so much ocean shore, and this one fronts the carefully preserved estate of one of Hawaii's most prominent businessmen. Smaller buildings and the harbor came in the '50s, and the main house was built in 1965 with old-growth clear heart redwood in the traditional style. Designed by famed architect Mark Potter, the house served as home for a decade for R. M. Towill, founder of the biggest engineering firm in the Pacific. The Towills sold in 1976 to Japanese corporations who simply held the property untouched for decades. That lucky accident kept the house, and the remarkable property itself, away from "developers" who could have ruined the buildings or torn them down and split up the property. The current owner, who bought in 2006, has spent the years since renovating and restoring the entire property. Visitors will find a lifestyle from pre-statehood days, with shoreline features like deep water channel and beach and harbor and sea walls that could never get past government regulators today. The result is splendid oceanfront isolation, but still only minutes from every modern service, shopping, entertainment and all the tourist attractions like Waikiki, Polynesian Cultural Center, Waimea's towering waves, Hanauma Bay (although we have humuhumunukunukuapua'a fish of our own) and the "world's best beach" in trendy Kailua. Guest AccessHere at Villa Lihikai you will live with all you need in a modern home, including laundry, smooth top cooktop, drawer-style dishwasher, high definition television, full internet, "the whole catastrophe." A family room spreads between the gourmet kitchen, the formal dining room, the "ship's prow" balcony and an enormous living room. Down a hall ventilated old style with wooden louvers lie the three bedrooms (or two and a den) and two baths with soaking tub. Every room has a view, and each view is better than the last. Your own entry garden lies just outside the lanai doors that can open more than 30 feet toward trade winds and sunlight. Then stroll down the private drive to the beach below, the secluded harbor beyond that, the hot tub bubbling in the sun or under the stars, and shady huts for reading or napping. You can fish from the point, or wade hundreds of yards toward deep water with line, net or spear. Interaction with GuestsMy wife and I also live in our own residence on the property and are available to you at your convenience. We will answer questions and offer any advice you seek. You will doubtless also meet Kea, the only non-adult on the property, our six-year-old Maltese pup. (He believes he is grown up, and I suppose he is in dog years.) The NeighborhoodWhen you turn onto Lihikai Drive, or down parallel Laenani Drive past a well-kept two-acre oceanfront public park, you are among Hawaiian families whose ancestors once controlled all of the Kahalu'u section of Oahu, from the ocean here to the mountaintops. The stronger the Hawaiian blood line, the sweeter is the ineffable spirit of aloha which outsiders can barely grasp. Some of the homes date back to plantation days when this area was called "Libbyville," because of the Libby Pineapple Company's cannery that provided work until it closed in 1926. Across from the cannery site lies St. John's by the Sea, an Episcopal church at the entrance to the neighborhood. The speed limit is 15 miles per hour, or less, but what's the rush on Hawaiian time, especially when you have already arrived in every sense of the word? A small inn nearby offers rooms to tourists, and the homes increase in size and stature climaxing with Villa Lihikai at the end. Getting AroundHonolulu's efficient bus system provides a stop near the church at the entry to the neighborhood, carrying passengers around the island or directly to Kaneohe town, Kailua, Lanikai, Hawaii Kai, downtown Honolulu, the stunning Ala Moana Shopping Center, and Waikiki. By car (and we provide covered parking) you are only minutes from movies, services and shops, and about half an hour to most major destinations and the airport. Other Things to NoteThe old Hawaiian name for the largest bay in the Hawaiian chain is Pukapuka Kai, and the reason is clear anytime you look at the changing colors of our fish-rich coral reefs. Puka, you may already know or will soon learn, is the Hawaiian word for "hole," and Pukapuka naturally means "lots and lots of holes," or the dazzlingly different spots of color on the bay, changing constantly with the play of winds and waves and sunlight and clouds. Kaneohe Bay is protected by the only true barrier reef in the archipelago, which made it a natural harbor for the voyaging Tahitian chiefs who formed the second wave of migration to the islands hundreds of years ago. Their landing spot, visible across the water from our point, is today the site of a regional park with sandy beaches, and the launching place for "Hokulea," the replica canoe built in modern times and still voyaging under her own sails around the world.

The SpaceJust 5 minutes' drive to stunning Kailua Beach, you will love every minute you spend in this bright, newly renovated 3+ bedroom home. The breathtaking views of the ocean and Kaneohe Bay, Coconut Island, and the magnificent Ko'olau Mountains will make it hard to leave the house. You will be very centrally and conveniently located, but also get to experience the best of both worlds -- you are at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac, nestled up against a lush, tropical jungle, yet so close to amenities and world-class beaches. Wake up to morning birdsong from this secluded haven. This is a 3+ bedroom, 2.5 bath 1,600 square feet house. The living area offers a full screen view of the bay, ocean and mountains, and a glass sliding door opens onto the covered lanai. Brand new kitchen and downstairs bathroom renovation, and beautiful luxury vinyl plank flooring installed throughout home -- just completed in January 2016. All rooms have lots of jalousie (louvre) windows letting in abundant light and welcoming breeze. There are three bedrooms on the main second level of the house: The master bedroom is tucked away in the back corner of the house, surrounded by the lush jungle, with wrap around jalousie windows that allow you to feel at one with nature. Sleep super comfortably on the Tempur Pedic king mattress and Tempur Pedic pillows. There is a half-bath ensuite off the master bedroom. The second bedroom bedroom has a brand new queen memory foam mattress, with views to the bay and mountains, and also to the jungle on the side of the house. The room also has a kids' study desk. The third bedroom has a brand new memory foam single bed with storage headboard, and includes a glass top computer desk and office chair. Super views to the bay, ocean and mountains. The main full bathroom is off the hallway, opposite the second bedroom. The main living area is an open-plan layout, with the kitchen, dining and living rooms all facing the spectacular views. The lanai (deck) off the living room extends the living area and brings the magnificent expanse and beauty of the outdoors inside. Whether preparing a meal, enjoying your food, lounging on the sofa, or relaxing on the lanai, you will be mesmerized by the ever-changing vista. You will love being in the brand newly renovated kitchen, with its quartz countertops, new cabinets, new stainless steel appliances, and recessed and under cabinet lighting. From the kitchen, access the laundry room available for your convenience. (This laundry hallway area is also utilized by our long-term resident in the studio cottage at the rear of the house. The cottage is completely separated from the main house, with no shared walls.) Downstairs on the lower level is the main front door entrance, a family room/den which can be an additional bedroom, plus a gorgeous new full bathroom with shower, featuring ceramic tile, new vanity with quartz countertop and new fixtures. The family room/den offers the comforts of an Ikea sectional couch which also pulls out into a very comfortable double bed -- much more comfortable than a typical pull-out spring sofa bed. Please note that the den is open to the front entrance and there is no door separating the two. There is a new 40" flat panel LED TV in the master bedroom, with Apple TV. You will enjoy free wireless broadband internet access throughout the house. No two days, rainbows or cloud formations are the same. Our position at the top of the hill and end of the cul-de-sac gives you an obstructed, elevated view straight out to the natural wonder of the scenic beauty surrounding us. And being situated on the windward (northeast) side of the island, we are blessed with near-constant "trade winds" which provide a natural cooling breeze that keeps the tropical warmth just perfect. There is an open 2-car garage attached to the house. You have use of 1 garage space, as well as additional parking on the asphalt driveway in front of the open garage. Feel free to use the boogie boards, beach chairs, snorkeling equipment, tennis rackets. Sorry, no pets and no smoking allowed. We are fortunate to have an excellent permanent long-term renter in the studio cottage at the rear of the property. He is a very quiet resident who teaches at a special needs high school and helps take care of the property. The cottage is a completely self-contained unit with no shared walls. The laundry hallway in between the two is shared. So the two units have good privacy separation. The cottage resident parks one vehicle on the flat concrete driveway adjacent to the garage. We can accommodate Japanese speaking guests as we both speak Japanese. 日本語でもどうぞ。 Guest AccessThe windward side offers the true island paradise experience. World-class Kailua Beach is just 5 minutes drive away. Honolulu (known to the locals as "town") is an easy 20-minute drive over the Ko'olau mountain range. You will be 2 minutes drive from H-3 freeway which goes into Honolulu, 5 minutes from the other two freeways into "town" (Honolulu), the Likelike (HI-63) and Pali Highway (HI-61). 5 minutes drive to supermarkets and stores. Public transportation (city bus) is on Kaneohe Bay Drive (only 3 blocks away). Feel free to enjoy the (aging but still operational) elliptical machine in the garage, as well as the boogie boards, beach chairs, beach equipment, snorkeling gear, tennis rackets and other play equipment. 日本語も話せますので、どうぞご連絡下さい。(主人は日本人のハアフです。)日本からのお客様を歓迎できるのを楽しみにしております。 The NeighborhoodFabulous central location 2 blocks from Kaneohe Bay Drive and city bus stop. Five minutes to Kailua beach. You have off-street parking either in the open garage or on the asphalt driveway right in front of the house/garage. It is definitely easier to explore the whole island by car, but we have had guests who use the city bus to get around. We are two blocks from the bus stop servicing the #56 bus route, which will take you into Kaneohe town, Kailua town, and into Waikiki/Honolulu. Other Things to NoteIn the interest of full disclosure, bugs are part of living in Hawaii, as are other creatures who visit from our jungle. The occasional cockroach is not a sign of sanitation problems. You also might see a cane spider (large, but not poisonous.) You will also very likely see geckos and possibly hear wild pigs in the jungle at night. Again, neither of those is dangerous. We do see a couple of centipedes a year, and their bite is painful, so make sure you check that your closed-toe footwear is uninhabited before putting it on. All of that being said, we can guarantee that the place is super clean, and you certainly don't have to worry about being infested! And the other comforting news -- no snakes in Hawaii! Important: Please note that your total charge includes tax of 13.962%, comprised of 4.712% GE (general excise) tax and 9.25% TAT (transient accommodations) tax, as required by Hawaii state law for short-term vacation rentals. Our home is nestled on a 2.4 acre hillside property which is an active hen and banana farm. The property is set back 500 feet from the road and has walking trails up to a 400 foot elevation. Breathtaking views give peace and awe during your mornings and sunsets. There is a picture perfect view of Chinaman's hat, with many hues of sun peeking through the mountains - adding mystery and awe to the island and ocean. The house is recently built, all wood red-cedar, and carefully furnished to be comfortable and not crowded. There are hard-wood floors in most of the home. Gas Stove and Gas / Solar Water heat, Washer Dryer, Ample parking and Security Coded Gate Entry. This is a great property for the accomplished traveler who wishes to have privacy and security. This property is geared toward organic and 'green' living: there is no air-conditioning, but the position high on the hill gives nice breezes. There are (6) automatically programmed skylights that will remain open - unless there is rain (they close automatically) and quiet fans in the bedrooms. The temperatures in this area range from 80's in the summer days to down to 60 in the nights in the winter. It is very comfortable and we enjoy the natural quiet comfort. We have installed a large canopy on the deck which gives a large area of shade and also creates a natural breeze. The housekeeper will normally supply fresh eggs and bananas and any other produce which may be in harvest at the time of your stay. (These items cannot be guaranteed but if offered are a courtesy item). Beautiful Rain Forest Location on a hillside - with beautiful blue ocean view. This area receives a prevailing breeze about 60 percent of the time, which pushes agains the Kooaloa Mountain range - causing a pressure drop and evening showers. It's very peaceful - the rain usually falls in the evening - and it's fresh and cool in the mornings. There are several nice hiking trails to cold mountain rivers - and several outstanding beaches - from more popular beaches (Kailua) to ones that are very secluded (Kooaloa Beach Park). There is a fishing pier within 8 minutes drive - great for fishing with the kids or kayaking. If you are into the water, there is an amazing 4-mile bay right at the bottom of our street - you can park in a simple ramp area and paddle out to the "sandbar" - on weekends it's the place to hang out and enjoy with many other boaters and ocean enthusiasts. It's nearly always a easterly breeze which blows to shore and the fringe coral reef insures that there are never any waves - so it's really perfect for ocean sports. We have seen Manta Rays, there are hundreds of Turtles, and mullet, popio, ohole-ohole, tilapia and many puffer fish, moray eels and samoan crabs.

The NeighborhoodKāneʻohe is a census-designated place (CDP) included in the City and County of Honolulu and located in Hawaiʻi state District of Koʻolaupoko on the island of Oʻahu. In the Hawaiian language, kāne ʻohe means "bamboo man". According to an ancient Hawaiian story a local woman compared her husband's cruelty to the sharp edge of cutting bamboo; thus the place was named Kāneʻohe or "Bamboo man". The population was 34,597 at the 2010 census.[1] Kāneʻohe is the largest of several communities along Kāneʻohe Bay and one of the two largest residential communities on the windward side of Oʻahu (the other is Kailua). The commercial center of the town is spread mostly along Kamehameha Highway. Features of note are Hoʻomaluhia Botanical Garden and the new Hawaiʻi National Veterans Cemetery. Access to Kāneʻohe Bay is mainly from the public pier and boat ramp located at nearby Heʻeia Kea. Access to Coconut Island (restricted) is from the state pier off Lilipuna Road. Marine Corps Base Hawaii lies across the south end of Kāneʻohe Bay from the central part of Kāneʻohe, although the town stretches along Kāneʻohe Bay Drive to the base perimeter. There are three golf courses in Kāneʻohe: Pali Golf Course (public), Koʻolau Golf Club (privately owned but open to the public), and Bayview Golf Park (privately owned but open to the public). Because we are on the Windward side of Oahu, cool trade winds usually keep us comfortable, especially after the sun sets. All windows have screens so no insects can get in. The property is professionally treated by a pest control company so other than an occasional chameleon that sneaks in, you should not see anything that crawls or flies! There's only me and my husband, no kids, so it's very quiet and peaceful here which we love! The cottage is 900 sq. ft. so there's plenty of living space if you would like to stay in and watch a movie at your home away from home and relax. The cable television has 100's of stations including music of every venue. I'll give you an orientation when I see you which may or may not be when you arrive. Getting AroundThe island of Oahu has an excellent public bus system which you can access by a 10 minute walk from the cottage. The cottage is conveniently located very close to the H-3 freeway so there's minimal traffic to get here even during rush hour. It's a short 20 minute drive to Waikiki. Other Things to NoteDriveway is quite steep so be careful coming up if you're coming up to load and unload. The home is built into the side of a hill. The refrigerator / freezer does not have an ice maker, only ice trays so you may want to bring more ice if you like lots of ice like me! We run a mobility business out of the main house so please do not block the driveway or garage other than for loading or unloading. No customers come to our house or cottage, only 1 - 2 staff personnel in the morning and late afternoon / early evening. Roosters are part of our environment so you can expect to hear them mostly in the mornings although they are not on the property or the adjacent properties but they are in the neighborhood across the street which is downhill from the house & cottage.

The SpaceThis brand new yurt sits on top of a hill overlooking Kaneohe Bay on the island of Oʻahu, cooled by the trade winds and outfitted for a comfortable stay. In addition to the yurt you'll have access to a small private bathroom in our nearby house, with a shower, toilet, sink, and mirror. There is freshly brewed coffee in our kitchen every morning that you're welcome to. The area in front of the yurt has lounge chairs, patio furniture, and a hammock for hanging out. Big views over the windward coast of Oʻahu are also on tap. We live on the property, directly adjacent to the yurt, but we keep each space private. Our next project is an outdoor shower... watch this space! Guest AccessNo parking issues here - you can load and unload things in our driveway anytime, and street parking is nearby, free, and always available. You'll climb a short flight of stairs up to the property from the driveway, where you'll head back to the yurt and the garden. Guests receive a code so that they can come and go from the property 24-7. If you will need assistance with carrying your luggage up or down the stairs on check in or check out, please let us know at the time of booking. Interaction with GuestsWe both come and go daily. We often greet our guests upon their arrival, but also have things set up so that you can easily check yourself in and familiarize yourself with the space in the event that we are not available. Otherwise, we love meeting people as both of our schedules allow and we're always up for answering questions or providing tips for places to go and things to do. The NeighborhoodKokokahi is one of windward O'ahu's oldest neighborhoods, this area has a long and interesting history! It is generally quiet, friendly, and relaxed - many local people know it for a short loop trail that begins nearby (definitely a nice hike to include during your visit). Getting AroundIt's all downhill from here, then left to Kaneohe and right to Kailua! Jumping on highways up and down the coast as well as across the island to Honolulu and the airport is also easy to do. We love bicycles if that is your preferred mode of transport (just be ready for a stiff final uphill pedal to get here, we tackle it often and it never disappoints!) The nearest bus stop is a 15 minute walk down the hill from the house. We are approximately half an hour away from Honolulu Intl Airport via the H1 and H3 freeways. During rush hour allow an extra 15 minutes. Other Things to NoteOur check-in hours are from 2 to 7 pm. Please make sure your flight arrives with plenty of time to get through traffic and arrive before 7 pm before you book. Check-out time is 10 am. Winnie the Blue (blue tick coonhound/Aussie cattle dog mix) lives on the property, and would like to meet you if you're cool with dogs! She's very chill. We also have four friendly chickens who routinely patrol the yard and who also might come say hi to you from time to time!
