The SpaceStandard king room with one king bed and private bathroom. Unit has air conditioning, free wifi, free parking and bi-weekly cleaning. Can accommodate up to 2 people total. Coin-op washers/dryers on property along with a BBQ pavilion for barbequing with friends and family. If you are coming to work at PMRF we are only a 7 minute drive from the front gate. If you are coming to work at KVMH we are only a 5 minute drive to the hospital. If you are just coming to visit the west side of the island we are less than 1 block from the road to Waimea Canyon and in walking distance of all Waimea Town businesses(restaurants, grocery stores, tourist shops, banks, post office, movie theater and more). We are located just 2 blocks from the Captain Cook monuments and only 700 feet from the ocean. If you will not be renting a car there is the Kauai Bus. Our units are non-smoking, however, you can smoke outside on the lanai. There is a 4-night minimum to rent this unit and we have several other identical units if you should need to accommodate more people. The SpaceWe are in the West Kaua'i Ni'ihau area. Dry land space and empty beaches , much homier within the old plantation village that has buildings that linger amongst the original "last street" that we are on. Waimea Canyon Road to Koke'e Forest Preserve, Polihale Heiau (Temple ) that ends the access roads and starts the Napali (The Coasts). Mind you we are in a state of limbo, in transition of America and Hawaii Nei (nation)...night is a blanket of stars beyond the horizon. This modern 3B home replaced the old village home that was proclaimed totaled in the 1992 aftermath of Hurricane Iniki . For comfort and nostalgia it is slowly being renovated to resemble the old home that was destroyed ; being replaced with the balancing act of environmental tech and hurricane/ flood zone safe permitting guides. We do have instruction, preset storaging, safe areas and contacts during this natural disaster. This Is Malia's Mahiko one of the homes owned by Kauai's well known Alma Acosta. Cherry Hawaiian Koa wood and stone floors with wooden furniture . Low lying beds and seating. Pacific Polynesia and Asian cultural pieces and Polynesia/ natural science/ children's books. Be prepared for insects...you are in the tropics. Courtesy, we have "grandfather guides" and preventatives to Prevent them from infesting or your skin to get infection. Also, a quiet voicebox popoki ( kitten) has adopted this home 8/24/14 and we decided she will be an advantage to the hoppers and morning clock (rooster- that's another story.) We have new fruit trees growing , as we helped an old neighbor out and gave him our mature bananas and papayas. ( We are actually planting trees in 4 different yards to insure everyone will have abundance on the conquest to out number the expensive grocery prices). Yet, you may help yourself to local aina farmed food on the kitchen island or fridge. Our bath has first aide , soap, shampoo and conditioner. Towels , sheets, laundry basket and gear located in your room for your use (If lost or broken please notify us. Activity gear will be charged if lost or broken,...but free of use during your stay.) we have a location for cleaning and storing large outdoor gear. If you have a child: provided we have a 30lb car restriction seat ( 8/8/16 exp), infant bouncer, bassinet, stroller. All for mobile access and sanitized washed after every use due to salty humidity. Notify us if needed car seat at airport- roadside policy is North American laws that we abide to. Our neighborhood shares, our home feeds a pua'a pig with our organic compost, given our mature fruit trees to the rental across the street, our colorful bush nursery will be joining the neighbor behind us. The ocean front cottage boasts all the modern conveniences and sweeping ocean and Ni`ihau views. Getting AroundYou should rent a car if you want to see other parts of Guam, but if you plan to stay in Merizo, you can walk around the village in 30 minutes or so. Other Things to NoteLimited breakfast food items are provided upon arrival. Markets are limited in Merizo so we recommend that guests stop at a market on the way to the property. Payless Market in Sumay and Kimchi Mart in Agat are on the way to Merizo and have a good selection of meats and vegetables. Super sweet "peach" mango tree outside entry. Downstairs feel free to chill out in the living room or backyard. Note the room shares a wall with another room that is often also occupied. That room has it's own private bathroom. Feedback Carpet: A few guests have noted the carpet in the reviews of the room. The carpet is stained, but regularly cleaned. The carpet is vacuumed between visits and periodically steam cleaned. Noise: The house is on a main street. There is noise starting in the morning when the roosters get up along with traffic. This is the downside to being close to everything in a small town. Interaction with GuestsThink of your stay here like you're visiting your distant cousin whom no one really knows what is up with. You're family without all those silly expectations the rest of your clan has. Be yourself and enjoy yourself! The NeighborhoodWaimea is on the sleepy West side of Kauai offering a small town feel. There are a number of antique, art and souvenir stores in walking distance for you to check out. Find something to eat at the local restaurants or get something to make at the two super markets right around the corner. Heading up along Waimea Caynon is a magnificent day trip to see some of the most the spectacular views Kauai has to offer. Polihale Beach is another fantastic day trip or camp out there for the night. It's one of the largest, most beautiful and remote beaches on the island. Getting AroundThe public bus ($2) is right across the street and I'm always happy to try and find guests rides. There is a small black sand beach across the street and about a mile down the road is a lifeguarded beach and the start of the white sand which runs for 17 miles to Poli Hale beach. Located in Kekaha which is loved for its sunny days and laid back vibe. As with all most all of the ocean view homes in Kekaha we are located across the street from the ocean. With the road there is traffic but our guest always say the views far outweigh the traffic.
