There are beaches 20 minutes away and approximately the same travel time to the Kahului airport.

The SpaceThere are several amenities that make this property special, unique, and a great value!! Alongside the main bedroom with queen bed is a spacious second room with a sofa bed, which can be used as an office, dining area, yoga space, or even a second (URL HIDDEN) apartment also includes a full bathroom with tub and shower, a separate, recently upgraded kitchenette with several appliances: refrigerator, toaster oven, microwave, two-burner hotplate, coffee maker, front loading washer/dryer. Host offers guests the right to do one load of laundry per week, or SHE will do any amount of laundry you want for $5 a load, washed and dried. There's a private off-street parking spot. The outdoor hot tub and sun deck look out at a partial ocean view surrounded by mature fruit trees--Meyer lemons, Haas avocados, mango, cherimoya. The apartment has WiFi throughout, and there are TWO HDTVs - one in each room, one includes premium stations like HBO and Showtime, the other includes HBO Go and Netflix (via Apple TV)! We have space for guests to store bikes,surfboards and kite or windsurfing gear, as well as golf clubs. Short driving distance to farmer's markets and several excellent restaurants. The neighborhood is quiet, and the accommodations are very comfortable and private. From a guest who returns to Kula Treat annually, "This listing gives a chance to visit Maui as a resident and not a tourist. Hiking, views and comfort are first class." Host would like to add: the apartment does have an iron and ironing board, and there is a hair dryer in the bathroom. We'd also like to add something about the two beds. The bed in the master bedroom is firm, but weʻve added a 3" foam topper for extra comfort.The sofa bed, in the second room is soft. If you know you do not like a firm mattress, the sofa bed can be made up for you, but there is a an extra charge for the second bed. In Winter months (January thru March), we add a feather bed to the sofa bed which makes it both more comfortable and warmer! Also worth noting, although the driveway is relatively short, it is *steep*, and needs to be BACKED down. More often than not, the host is there to take your car down for you, and she is ALWAYS happy to provide that "valet" service - literally both day and night. There is another parking option where you can "front in", but itʻs about 100 yards from the apartment. Host will show you both options upon your arrival. As you may have noticed, Kula Treat gets a lot of five star reviews, but we want to be clear that this apartment is not the Four Seasons. It’s “country living” up here in Kula. We offer lots of nice amenities, and keep the rates very affordable, especially for such a spacious apartment than can sleep up to four people easily. The host will consider more than 4 guests, and can provide an airbed for this exception, but there will need to be some communication about that during the inquiry process. The five star reviews are from people who really appreciate the value, cleanliness and the care put into the apartment. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the host through the message center before booking. We sincerely want you to be happy at Kula Treat. Guest AccessGuests have full access to the private apartment, outdoor hot tub, patio and outdoor furniture, fruit trees and one off-street parking spot (everything listed here is exclusively for the guests, including the hot tub). We have two beach chairs you are welcome to take to the beach and bring home. Because we have neighbors nearby, the outdoor area is not suitable as a play area for children. Although children are welcome here, we do need a level of quiet maintained - particularly outside. Interaction with GuestsThe guest apartment is in a separate part of the house, and the host is available if something is needed. The laundry area is right outside the kitchenette and is accessed by the host regularly. Although the host tends to leave guests to themselves, she may occasionally need to come into the kitchenette area for cleaning/laundry supplies. The NeighborhoodAttractive residential neighborhood in quiet country setting. Although we don't actually see our neighbors' houses from our property, we are friendly with the neighbors on all sides. Wonderful, kind-hearted and creative people, full of aloha spirit. Getting AroundThere is a bus that comes within two miles of this property, but public transportation is not frequent in this area. A rental car is a "must". Other Things to NoteAirBnBʻs price structure is set up by the number of guests, not by the number of beds used. Generally speaking, a booking for two people means only the use of the master bedroom. If you are two people traveling together, but wish to have the second bed set up, thereʻs an additional fee of $20 a night that doesnʻt show up when you book for only two people. The host will mention this in the message thread and discuss options and possible discounts. Itʻs a 50 minute drive to the summit of Haleakala, 25 minute drive to the beach, close to great restaurants, locally grown farmers' markets, drugstore, super market, etc. I'd like my guests to know that I donate a portion of every booking to the Pachamama Alliance, an organization that works with Ecuadorian native tribes to prevent the destruction of rainforests, and educate all people about how to be better stewards of our world. Nestled in the splendor of Upcountry Maui, and invitingly elegant, Aloha Cottage is exactly what one would dream a luxury Hawaiian guest house to be.As unique inside as on the outside, the Aloha Cottage boasts a pyramid-shaped skylight at the apex of the eight-sided, vaulted ceiling. One can actually lay back on the bed at night and gaze at the stars through this unique, architectural feature. Beautiful imported carvings, that were specifically designed and crafted by artisans in Bali, appear throughout the cottage. A combination of recessed lighting and wall sconces with dimmer controls provide great ambience within the well-planned space.The spacious octagonal living area is enhanced by 14 foot tall open beam ceilings. The cottage's terra cotta floors feature built in radiant heat for added comfort. The design of the main room, with its "living in the round", is so unique! One section offers an Asian style sit-on-the-floor dining space with custom built table for two, while another is dedicated to a cozy lounge area. There is a large wall mounted flat screen TV and a stereo in the built in wall cabinet. And finally, at the center of this amazing space, there is a king size custom crafted platform bed.The kitchen is something any chef, or foodie, would fall in love with. It features gorgeous granite counter tops, a full size refrigerator/freezer and a full size, four-burner gas stove and oven. There is a stainless steel sink in front of a large 3-panel bay window that looks out on the bamboo garden. This kitchen is enhanced by a compliment of cabinets made of solid wood and hand-carved Teak wood drawer fronts. It is fully equipped and stocked with the tools any cook would desire.The bathroom space has been lavished in luxury and boasts a custom built, six-foot teak vanity with double ceramic sinks. Above the sinks is a large vanity mirror framed by an ornately hand carved, hand painted, Balinese teak wood sculpture. And these are just a few of the features that depict the true attention to detail that was invested in every facet of the Aloha Cottage.       Aloha! From the moment you drive onto our gated property with wrap around driveway, your five senses will be activated by our multi-acre plant and flower farm. We have a beautiful 1 bedroom Garden Home for you [option of second bedroom if we discuss first] with open style accommodations and an 800 square foot private wrap-around porch. Warm days, garden smells of delight and a spacious home for your Maui dream stay. Our second bedroom is connected to the cottage via a private porch and is available to you but only if we consult first before booking. That room has a beautiful queen bed, two window views to the mountain and valley, a leather couch for relaxing and a work space as well. At 3,000 feet up in elevation, warm days give away to sleep-easy nights. The cottage is a generously open concept, with the living room, dining area, reading area and kitchen opening up to an additional 800 square foot private wrap-around porch, surrounded by enormous flowers and plants. The views are out to mountains, the ocean, valleys, the meadows next door and will activate all five of your senses. The smells are intoxicating and the garden is private, free for you to roam around, scenic and all-consuming. One bedroom in the back of the garden has a huge Queen bed, the sofa opens up to sleep 2. Second bedroom has two Queens. Dine out, eat out, mix it up -- a great retreat for couples, families with kids, friends vacationing together and wanting to be central to everything in Maui, backpackers passing through and anyone else attracted to Maui. Very centrally located in Upcountry, we're only 20 minutes from Kahului (where the airport is, along with Walmart, Target, Whole Foods, etc.) There's actually a street that is a short cut straight into town -- that's our street. Take a right out the driveway and you're there. Just 25 minutes from Kihei and and 40 minutes to Lahaina, you can also dash to the top of the HaleakalÄ National Park (and volcano!) and watch the most gorgeous sunrises. It's a half hour from the house. Relax, enjoy, unwind, create, connect... Maui is a special place.       The SpaceThis is a spacious bedroom in a beautiful up-country home. Comfy queen size bed, lots of room to stretch out. Wifi, plus HDTV with NetFlix and HBO GO. We're calling it a "crash pad", because we're only looking for guests who come in after dinner, only need a place to sleep, clean up, and head out early the next day for Maui Adventures. The host works at home and is here most of the time and needs her living/working area to be uninterrupted from at least 9am-5:30pm each day. Please note - we have a very friendly, indoor only cat. You can certainly close off your bedroom door, but there will be a cat in the rest of the house. We ask a very small cleaning fee ($15) to cover utilities, no security deposit, and we do accept one night stays. In exchange, we ask that you honor the "crash pad" style of living and not hang out in the host's general living quarters or use the kitchen for more than making some coffee or tea in the morning. Worth noting: there is one full flight of stairs from the parking area to the bedroom area. If you canʻt carry your luggage up a flight of stairs, this might not be the right listing for you. We ask that you read ALL the details in this section to make sure this listing is right for you. Our ideal guests donʻt need to cook here, and need only a small space to store anything in the fridge. We provide a coffee maker with filters and some nice coffee as well as organic green tea. This is a non-dairy household, so we provide almond milk, but you'll have to bring your own "real" milk/cream. Thereʻs a lovely deck youʻre welcome to use when the weather supports it. Host shares the bathroom, and won't hog it, and will appreciate you being considerate in that same regard. Also, we very much appreciate you waiting till you go outside before applying perfume, cologne or even a scented after shave. Sensitive noses live here, and those scents tend to linger in the house for hours. Thank you for your consideration in this regard. Interaction with GuestsPamela is an experienced "Super Host" and will want to make sure you are comfortable and have everything you need for a perfect stay. But she works at home and won't have time for lengthy interaction with guests. That's why we're calling this a "crash pad". It's a place for you to come and crash at the end of the day, shower, sleep in comfort and quiet, but not a whole house share. Thank you for respecting that. The NeighborhoodThe neighborhood is generally VERY quiet and not at all touristy. This is "country living", and "local living", but with an elegant touch. There's an occasional squawking bird or barking dog, but not often. The host has lived in this house 21 years without negative incident. Worthy of note: Kula is at 3,300 feet elevation on the slopes of Haleakala. It's a perfect jumping off place for sunrise at the crater, or even the back road to Hana. It's about a 30 minute drive from the airport, or to the nearest beach. There's a GREAT restaurant only 10 minutes away, a farmer's mkt nearby open Thurs-Sunday. A Thai Kitchen truck open daily - all within ten minutes of this listing. Closest market is also a ten minute drive - supermarket a 15 minute drive. Pamela will be happy to provide you with clear directions to any/all of these venues. Because of the elevation, Kula does experience "Winter" weather. Not as cold as other parts of the world, but the temps can easily drop into the low 50ʻs (farenheit) at night and early morning January through March. Your room in Winter will have a down comforter and lots of extra blankets. Getting AroundMaui, in general, has sketchy public transportation. I would not recommend this listing unless you are renting a car. Other Things to NoteSome of our guests arrive late and/or leave early. We simply ask that you be consciously quiet both inside and outside the house from 9pm to 7am. Mahalo! If you leaving for sunrise at the summit of Haleakalā, Pamela might ask that you park on the street to give a little relief to our neighbors whose bedrooms are close to our driveway. This is something we can discuss upon your arrival. The street is VERY quiet, safe, with very little traffic. Also worthy of note - the cat box for our adorable cat lives in the shower. We use pine pellets for litter, so the cat box is not at all smelly. But it does have to be removed when you take a shower. Pamela will be willing to do this for you if she's home. But if you take a shower when Pamela is not home, you'll have to remove the cat box and then put it back when you're done showering. And one last thing, sorry for being so long winded, but AirBnB has asked me to mention this next thing, because it does come up occasionally. The listed price for this room is for one or two people *sleeping in the same bed*. I DO have an airbed I can set up for people who would like to sleep separately, but there is an extra charge. The charge shows up automatically if the listing is for three or more people, but it does not show up if itʻs only two people, and yet you want the extra bed set up. Within 20 minute drive: epic surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing, family friendly beaches, airport, malls, movie theaters, restaurants, hippie/beachtown Paia and more! 45 minutes-2hours: You can see the rest of the island! Lahaina and Westside beaches and resorts are an hour away, Kehei is 45 minutes away, Hana is 2 hours away. Getting AroundRenting a car is a must on Maui, unless you are staying at a resort. If you are having trouble locating a good deal on a rental car, please let us know, maybe we can help. There is plentiful parking in front of the the ohana/guesthouse (at least 4 spaces.) Other Things to NoteThe yard is shared, and we have to very sweet dogs who sometimes are in the yard. One (Cupid) is a Bichon Frise and the other (Sunshine) is a Ridgeback. They are friendly with people who like dogs, but otherwise will leave you alone. There may be occasional barking. We also have two cats, who may say 'hello' but are not allowed in the ohana/guesthouse.

Dress warm! Getting AroundParking is not a problem as this is our private home. You will want to rent a car as everything is a drive away and I surely wouldn't want you spending all your time on the public bus transit :) Other Things to NoteThe owners may or may not be on property when you arrive. There is yard service once or twice a month, she will be advised of guests on property. At the time of this writing we have 4 sheep on property, 2 horses and 3 dogs. This property is a soothing background for relaxation! Haleakala Princess Estate is a very unique vacation rental in Upcountry Maui. This home was designed for Abigail Kapiolani Kawananakoa and has been lovingly restored by the current owner. Careful attention has been paid to every detail, from the gardens to the interior and exterior of both the Main House and the Guest Cottage. There are two homes on this property – a three bedroom main house and the two bedroom guest cottage. Each are well separated from the other, with separate gated entrance, separate parking, private hot-tub, and private yard / garden area. The cottage faces up to Haleakala, while the Main House faces down to the ocean. The most amazing feature at the Guest Cottage is the huge outdoor deck which looks down over a gorgeous garden. This is a clean, comfortably furnished apartment-type rental with two pretty big bonuses you rarely find in this price range: A private hot tub with sun deck, and a bonus bedroom – living space. The bonus room includes a queen sofa sleeper, dining table, closet, and work bench that guests have remarked are perfect for setting up computers and/or sharing with an additional guest/couple. New bedding, bath and beach towels are provided as well. This suite is equipped with wireless internet along with Cable TV, including premium channels such as Showtime and HBO. This home was designed for Abigail Kapiolani Kawananakoa and has been lovingly restored by the current owner. Careful attention has been paid to every detail, from the gardens to the interior and exterior of both the Main House and the Guest Cottage. Haleakala Princess Estate is in the small rural town of Kula. Kula can be considered the 'heart' of Upcountry. The climate here is cooler, with mists swirling in the valleys and groves of eucalyptus sheltering pastures full of cattle. Kula is also the habitat of the exotic Protea flowers and several farms grow acres of the many different varieties that are shipped all over the world. Kula onions are said to be among the sweetest in the world. As you drive through Kula, you'll see pasture land with cows, horses, goats or sheep, farm land with flowers, vegetables, lavender, or fruits. The Tedeschi Winery in Ulupalukua is Hawaii's only vineyard. Stop and taste the Tedeschi products at the historic little stone tasting room, which was once a jail. The immaculate grounds, landscaped with 100-year-old trees, are a great place for a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine and a designated driver! But the crowning jewel is the summit of 10,023 foot Haleakala. From here, the sunrise is like no place else on earth. The house has three bedrooms, 2.5 bathrooms, a large living / dining area, and well equipped kitchen. The best feature is the huge tiled deck wrapping all the way from the hot-tub, across the front of the house, and down the side. Built in BBQ/outdoor eating area are next to a large waterfall. There's something so soothing about the sound of falling water. What do guests comment on the most? The coast to coast view, starting from the north shore, moving across the central valley and west Maui mountains, and then down the south shore. To finish it off, Haleakala is to your back. It would be almost impossible to find a better view! Most guests spend their evening around the gas fire pit, watching the sun set. Recent guest feedback: We were extremely pleased with the accommodations at the Haleakala Princess.... loved staying up-country.... and will certainly return in the coming years, as my wife grew up in Pukalani /Kula and we often come to visit family. The house was beautifully conceived and, as an architect, I truly appreciated the way it captured the sweeping views to the west [especially the sunsets]. The deck and grounds were stunning as well..... and the hot tub a nice treat in the cool evenings. All in all, we did love our experience.... and would certainly recommend it to friends and family. The NeighborhoodHaleakala Ranch runs along the north border, undeveloped land to the west and south, and Haleakala Highway to the east. Beyond that, the closest homes are the ½ acre lots just off of Lower Kimo Drive. This area of Kula is rural in nature, with a mix of large agricultural parcels (some as large as 750 acres), 1 to 3 acre rural parcels, ½ acre lots, and the small businesses of Kula town. Getting AroundA rental car is highly recommended. Maui has very limited public transportation. Without a vehicle, you would most most of the things to see and do on the island. Neighbors - Please be considerate of our neighbors. Noise carries easily to their homes, particularly in the evening. NO loud music, NO parties, NO amplified sound of any nature at any time. Many neighbors must be up early in the morning to go to work, and it’s important that your use of this property does not impact them in any way. 2. Quiet Hours - Quiet time is from 9pm to 8am. 3. Use of the Property - Additional friends/family CANNOT be invited to the property and it cannot be used as a “meeting place”. The property can be used ONLY by the guests listed on the rental agreement. The County law allows us to accommodate a maximum of two guests x the number of bedrooms. 4. Parking - There is plenty of parking on the property. Vehicles CANNOT be parked on the street at any time. When vehicles are on the street, there is insufficient space for emergency vehicles, fire trucks, the trash truck or neighbors to get down the road.                             Summary This ground-level, two bedroom suite is in a private Upcountry home, tucked away in a quaint residential neighborhood close to the Kula Lodge Restaurant, local farmers market and small grocery store. (see below for more details about Kula.) The friendly owner lives in the attached house upstairs and is readily available if needed, while still affording guests full privacy. This is a clean, comfortably furnished apartment-type rental with two pretty big bonuses you rarely find in this price range: A private hot tub with sun deck, and a bonus bedroom – living space. The bonus room includes a queen sofa sleeper, dining table, closet, and work bench that guests have remarked are perfect for setting up computers and/or sharing with an additional guest/couple. New bedding, bath and beach towels are provided as well. This suite is equipped with wireless internet along with Cable TV, including premium channels such as Showtime and HBO. The kitchenette includes fridge, microwave, toaster-oven and two-burner hot plate. Of course all the must have amenities are included – coffee maker, dishes, glasses, tableware for four and cookware. The shared high quality front-load washer and dryer are right outside the kitchenette. The grounds offer a variety of mature fruit trees including Meyer lemons, oranges, haas avocados, mangoes and cherimoya. Guest have a reserved off street parking spot. Location Kula is cooler than the resort areas, and centrally located, which is why many Maui residents choose to live here.                             STMP2014-0001. TA-001-935-7696-01. Haleakala Princess Estate is a very unique vacation rental in Upcountry Maui. This home was designed for Abigail Kapiolani Kawananakoa and has been lovingly restored by the current owner. Careful attention has been paid to every detail, from the gardens to the interior and exterior of both the Main House and the Guest Cottage. There are two homes on this property – a three bedroom main house and the two bedroom guest cottage. Each are well separated from the other, with separate gated entrance, separate parking, private hot-tub, and private yard / garden area. The cottage faces up to Haleakala, while the Main House faces down to the ocean. The most amazing feature at the Guest Cottage is the huge outdoor deck which looks down over a gorgeous garden. This garden area has a large redwood hot-tub, with a small trickling waterfall next to it, lounge chairs, and a table/chairs for “dining in the garden”. This entire side of the property is for the private use of our cottage guests. The huge tiled deck has another dining set, chairs, and a gas BBQ. The Guest Cottage has two bedrooms (king, queen beds), two full bathrooms (both with showers), a spacious living room / dining area, and full kitchen. The bed linens are soft and luxurious. Sink into the comfy bed, and enjoy an amazing night of sleep. This is definitely not the city, and the only thing you’ll hear are the sigh of the wind, and the sounds of the birds. To be sure that you stay comfy year round, the cottage has both heat and A/C. You probably won’t use it, since it’s so nice with the doors wide open, but it’s there if you want it. HOUSE RULES Aloha! Many neighbors must be up early in the morning to go to work, and it’s important that your use of this property does not impact them in any way. 2. Quiet Hours - Quiet time is from 9pm to 8am. 3. Use of the Property - Additional friends/family CANNOT be invited to the property and it cannot be used as a “meeting place”. The property can be used ONLY by the guests listed on the rental agreement. The County law allows us to accommodate a maximum of two guests x the number of bedrooms. 4. Parking - There is plenty of parking on the property. Vehicles CANNOT be parked on the street at any time. When vehicles are on the street, there is insufficient space for emergency vehicles, fire trucks, the trash truck or neighbors to get down the road. A large jacaranda and two avocado trees shade the wide open lawn. At an elevation of around 3,000 feet, guests welcome the day as the sun rises over Haleakala and watch the sun setting in the ocean or behind Mauna Kahalawai (West Maui Mountains). Guests might even see the green flash when it sets in the ocean. G & Z offers a rural tropical atmosphere and its convenient location makes it easy to access all that Upcountry and Maui has to offer. It's a place to relax and 'get away from it all,' yet still be within an easy drive to beaches and surf spots. There are five restaurants just 5 minutes away and another 10 within a 15 minute drive. Kula Country Farm, a two minute walk away, sells local produce and homemade Upcountry products and has the best Halloween pumpkin patch and fun activities for the keiki (kids). G & Z has on-site free parking and a private entrance. The fully equipped kitchen has a full size range and refrigerator. The dining table can seat 4 comfortably. The bedroom has a King Size bed and the living room has a Queen Size sofa bed. The bathroom has a large walk-in shower. There are two flat screen HDTV with satellite DirecTV service and free wireless internet accessibility. A large shared deck has a BBQ grill and is a perfect place for outdoor dining. On those cool winter evenings, guests will enjoy the warmth of the electric fireplace that comfortably heats the cottage and creates a cozy atmosphere. G & Z Upcountry is a Bed & Breakfast and your hosts will provide your cottage with seasonal fruit and scones or breakfast breads, coffee and tea daily. The kitchen has a full size refrigerator, stove, coffee pot and toaster/oven which enable guests to enjoy breakfast at their leisure. For guests that would enjoy an agritourism experience, G & Z hosts are happy to share their farm where they grow avocados, lemons, limes, pomegranites, pears, figs and coffee. Although the trees are young they are already harvesting avocados and lemons. A vegetable garden is right outside of the cottage. The backyard nursery is currently growing poinsettia, blueberries, squash plus some herbs and flowers. Guests that would like to experience planting will be encouraged. The saying is, once you go up the hill (Haleakala) you never go back : ) The tiny house 2nd bath is "outside" but fully covered, private & well appointed. You really havent lived on Maui without trying the open breeze bathroom experience! Guest AccessThe main house and tiny house are all yours. You are perched on a private hill at the top of the driveway. Only 1 neighbor is in possibly in view and you have to walk to the edge of the driveway and look down through the trees- no one can see into the house or anywhere in the rear garden. This is a much different Maui experience from the typical Kihei/Wailea/Lahaina hustle and bustle. It is easy highway driving to get anywhere on the island but when you come home you will experience the fresh air, quiet, amazing skies, bicoastal views and starry night sky that is unique to Maui. Interaction with GuestsWe are happy to help with tips and ideas for a great Maui experience. We have a combined 23 yearas of living on the island and there isnt much we havent tried or explored. We are happy to give you complete privacy or we are happy to offer anything you need to make this a wonderful trip : ) The NeighborhoodThis is a wonderful, private and quiet neighborhood. There is a lot of space between houses. The property is over 6 acres and the cottage is at the very top of the driveway with acres of trees and gulch behind it. We do ask guests not to smoke and to keep noise to a minimum. The neighborhood is so quiet and clean and deserves to remain so : ) Getting AroundYou will have to have a car for your trip to Maui. We are way off the road but with easy access to the highway that connects all of Maui together. Kula is a central location and a great starting off point to visit all areas of Maui. Other Things to NoteWe are just minutes from the two best farmer's markets on Maui. The Saturday market in lower Kula rivals any in California or Canada. There is also a wonderful Wednesday market about 5 minutes away. Also, Maui Bees Farm is 8 minutes away and definitely worth a visit. They have amazing honey and 2 acres of pick your own veggies as well as figs, eggs, farm made yogurts, cheeses, chutneys and more! If you are into clean living and fresh food, Kula is the place. This is the breadbasket of Maui : )
