The SpaceE komo mai, welcome to Maili Cove, a 61 unit oceanfront condominium complex located on the leeward coast of O`ahu. This is the less traveled side of the island, away from the tourist mecca and crowds of Waikiki and Honolulu, but within easy reach if you decide to enjoy some of the sightseeing, shopping and restaurants - and of course world famous Waikiki beach. All units have a western exposure to guarantee a perfect sunset view over the Pacific Ocean. Every night is a different show!! Our condo is located on the ground floor, giving you direct access to the parking lot for ease in carrying in your luggage and groceries in this 3 story building. It also provides direct access to the solar heated saltwater pool, the 4 gas bbq's, the 2 mile stretch of Ma`ili Beach sand which we share with about a dozen houses to the south and nothing but beach to the north. Go for a beach walk in the early morning and you may be the only one on the beach, unless an (endangered) Hawaiian monk seal has decided to rest on the sand. In season you may also see humpback whales from the shore. Our one bedroom unit features two queen size murphy beds with very comfortable mattresses, one in the bedroom and the second in the living room. (If you sleep in the living room, you will be lulled asleep nightly by the soothing sound of the waves.) There is a walk in closet in the bedroom and a tub/shower combination in the bathroom. There is a full kitchen with all necessary service ware, a cooktop, convection oven/toaster microwave and dishwasher to cook all your island favorites.. All towels and linens are provided as is free phone service, wifi and cable tv. Free assigned parking. Quarter operated community laundry room on property. The west side of O`ahu has some of the most beautiful beaches - uncrowded and hidden gems that are some of the best on the island. Makaha beach is a wonderful location for snorkeling, sunbathing and surfing - and may have actually been the birthplace of surfing. Two miles away is Pokai Bay, which is wonderful for SUP (stand up paddling), snorkeling and swimming in a protected cove where you will often see spinner dolphins playing in the waves. This area is also home to outrigger paddling clubs and the army rec center that has oceanfront dining and a magnificent location to casually dine, enjoy entertainment several nights each week and fantastic sunsets if you decide not to cook and watch them at your island vacation home. Please bring identification to gain civilian access to the rec center. We are 6 miles north of the Aulani, Disney's new resort complex located at Ko olina. The 4 lagoons at Ko olina are open to the public and can be enjoyed by you while staying on island. We are 10 miles from Kapolei, O`ahu's second city where you will find shopping (including Costco, Target, Walmart, etc.) and restaurants, as well as the Wet 'n Wild Water Park. Located 25 miles northwest of the Honolulu airport, it is about a 40 minute drive to Maili Cove, most of it is on the H-1 expressway, which ends at Farrington Highway. Just stay on Farrington until you see the white horseshoe building just before St. John's Road. The H-1 expressway will take you into Waikiki, Pearl Harbor or Aloha Stadium for their famous swap meets every Wednesday, Saturday (except for U of H home games) and Sunday. You can split off to the H-2 which will take you up to Hale`iwa and the rest of the famous north shore beaches (Waimea, Sunset and Pipeline.) You can split off to the H-3 which will take you directly to the Windward side. However, there are so many other places worth exploring on the Leeward side: Kaena Point, Yokohama Bay, heiau's up in Makaha Valley or hiking in the Wai`anae Mountains. There are some fun trails one mile north of us with spectacular views of the entire coast up at the Wai`anae Comprehensive, a 24 hour medical facility where they practice both western and Hawaiian medicine - and a restaurant is open weekdays for breakfast and lunch. We are professionally managed on island, and the complex has a resident manager. RATES: $4,000/30 day month which includes all applicable taxes (transient accommodations tax of 9.25% plus the general excise tax of 4.712%.) All additional nights will be charged at $130/night. This rate does not include the $130 outclean fee per stay or airbnb's fee. There is a 30 day minimum (EMAIL HIDDEN)e to Maili Cove to stay, play, relax and unwind. The NeighborhoodThe leeward coast is the dryer part of the island - which means more sunny days to enjoy outdoor activities and more starry nights to sky watch. Please go to (URL HIDDEN) and print out the sky chart for the month of your visit. This coast is not a high tourist area, but more of the natural Hawai`i. Morning walks on the beach may mean that yours are the first footprints to touch the sand. Getting AroundYou will most likely need a car and i can provide several car rental recommendations. The Bus (which is the name of the O`ahu bus system) does have a stop just north of the building, including an express bus that can take you directly to the Ala Moana Mall from where you can transfer to any place in Waikiki or Honolulu. The SpaceThis unit provides a unique detail which I would like to mention again which is that the 2nd bedroom can be utilized as two twins or a King. I had seen this feature in Europe and finally I found a conversion kit here in the US!!! So just let me know which type of arrangement that you would like giving me at least a day to prepare and I can have the room ready to your specifications! The common space sleeping spot is not exactly a sofa bed, it is a nice leather futon which folds open to a full size bed. Extra bedding is tucked away in the ottoman right there in the living room. Another great feature that I have added is Roku! Roku allows you to watch your own netflix or hulu or amazon account on both of the tvs in the apartment! Also recently added is local artwork by a local photographer as well as some other locally sourced artwork and a newly renovated dresser for the main bedroom that was renovated right here in Makaha by a neighbor. You will also notice fun tropical inspired curtains as you walk in that were custom made for me by clothing designer Giselle Shepatin. Makaha surf beach provides excellent surfing in the sunny winter months and serene snorkeling at the other end of the bay. Swim with dolphins early in the morning or majestic sea turtles all day long. After an early morning swim head out to the Makaha Valley golf course for a somewhat challenging 18 holes, or into the valley to the Historic Makaha Vat alley riding stables for a horseback tour of this ancient valley. Dinner is not far away at Kahumana Farms in the rich soil of Lualualei Valley just a 7 minute drive down the coast where you can enjoy free range beef, organic greens and pick up some local farm fresh eggs for tomorrow’s breakfast. At the end of a sun filled day come home to a good night’s sleep in your comfortable Makaha condo. Guest AccessThis vaulted ceiling condo is the top floor unit of a three floor condo building, it shares no walls so you will have a quiet peaceful stay. Each room has a ceiling fan and the breeze from the valley flows softly through the bedrooms to the living room, and on out to the ocean in the distance. On a quiet night with high surf you can even hear the waves. The unit comes with one parking space and if you have visitors there is also guest parking available. Our gated property includes 24 hour onsite security, a convenient laundry gazebo, 2 pool areas each with swimming pool, kiddy pool fountain grassy play area, a barbeque area and a Jacuzzi. For the active we also have a basketball court, and a run up into the hills provides breath taking views. Makaha Valley Road is the last traffic light on this side of the island, so from here on out it gets pretty tranquil and the beaches are magnificent. We are a short drive from the North-West tip of the island where you can take a gentle hike to see magnificent views of the water plus a unique albatross nesting ground and Hawaiian Monk Seal habitat. If the season is right you will also see plenty of whales during your walk. The lifeguards at Makaha Surf beach just at the end of Kili Drive are very friendly and will let you know if the conditions are right for swimming and snorkeling. Snorkel out to the buoy and you will see the majestic sea turtles feeding off a large submerged rock full of their favorite food. If you feel a bit leery of going out on your own just head over to the Waianae Boat Harbor and hook up with the good folks at Dolphin Excursions and they will take you out for an unforgettable experience. This is a wonderful location for peace and quiet, from our gate, you can walk or drive about 1.5 miles down to Makaha Surf Beach, local lifeguards, majestic sea turtles, nice and quiet. We have 2 local grocery stores, The Waianae Store, and Tamura's. If you need a regular grocery store just stop in Kapolei for Safeway, Costco, etc on your way out. There are a few local places to eat, just check on trip advisor, or yelp for places to eat in Waianae. We have a 7-11 on the corner of Makaha Valley Road which looks a little rough around the edges, but I will stop in there from time to time and have never had any issues. I have lived here for 8 years and always find it comforting to come home. The air is fresh, the breeze blows softly and doves can be heard cooing each morning. Also at the end of Farrington Hwy, just a few miles west of the condo you will find Kaene State Beach Park also with lifeguards and at the end there is a lovely hike out to the end of the point from which you can see the whole leeward coast as well as the north shore. Waking through the albatross habitat out to the monk seal resting beaches is a treat for all the senses. Getting AroundIf you need to rent a car, just let me know. I have been working with a local private car rental service, they have nice, clean cars in good condition at very good rates, they are very reliable and dependable. The Bus does run out here and there is a bus stop right in front of the property, however since we are in such a remote location it will take about 2 hours to get to town on the bus. Other Things to NoteLet me know if you need a car! I have been working with a local private car rental service. Their cars are always nice, clean, and in good condition. The rates are lower than renting with a large chain plus you will be supporting a local small business.

The shopping area is not flash, but has all that you will need, groceries, drug store, even a Jamba Juice and Starbucks. There is snorkel, Kayak, etc nearby at the Makaha Valley Road junction. The 2 condominiums and the beach directly in front, are a gentle enclave from the surrounding areas, which can be very active with young locals and family's from the West Side. It has its own flavour! There are a few eateries in between the unit and Ko'Olina resorts. You can explore the West Side, and find some decent eateries, but if you are looking for a nice night out on the town, head to Ko'Olina where you can attend a Luau, fancy dinners at Marriot, Disney or other resorts in that area. Once you've had enough, come back and relax on our quiet little cove.... Getting AroundMakaha is on a bus route, but I highly recommend a car hire. Other Things to NoteMakaha is a gorgeous jewel that only most of locals really know about and explore. Although growing with the tourist population, you won't be immersed in it here! The new Disney Resorts property Aulani, the crown jewel of Disney properties, is now open and within a 20 minute drive of the unit. You can pop in for a meal, shopping, or jsu to marvel at the world class offerings at Disney and Ko'Olina resorts. The SpaceWe call it the Treehouse, but its actually a second floor studio apt over our carport, with views of the surrounding yards filled with bougainvilla, palm trees, bamboo and fruit trees, and the mountains in the distance. You can walk to a hidden local beach only 2 houses away, where Hawaiian green sea turtles rest on the sand. Save money by cooking your own meals instead of going out every night! This "Ohana" apt (a unit attached to someone's private home, and does not contain a full kitchen, meant for temporary family guests) is located in West Oahu, in Makaha, close to Makaha surfing beach, Makaha Golf Resort, and 15 minutes away from the Disney and KoOlina Resorts. It is one hour away from Honolulu and Waikiki and the hustle and bustle of the city, whle still only 20 minutes drive to shopping in Kapolei. There is a quaint oceanfront restaurant with entertainment on the weekends just 5 minutes down the road, and our side of the island is known for less crowded beaches, teeming with ocean life, and some cool rural hiking trails. Our Treehouse is a large studio room (over 400 square ft ) with an outdoor lanai, romantic pillowtop Cal King bed, kitchenette with all amenities except oven (there is a convection microwave and a double burner hotplate). WI-FI, off street parking, separate entrance, full tile bath, basic cable, DVD/VCR (some DVDs/ VCR tapes are provided, as well as some novels to read on the beach), A/C, coin op laundry on premises, close to larger surfing beaches. Bus stop close by but a car is recommended. We provide beach towels, snorkel equipment, boogieboards, coolers, beach umbrella, use of our BBQ, single and double person kayaks w/ temporary foam roof rack to put on your rental car, 2 bicycles, tour books and maps ... what more can you ask for at this price? Explore Oahu the more affordable way, or just hide out here for a romantic retreat! NOTE: We also cater to long term and month-to-month business travelers, with a 30 day minimum and long term rates. We are 10 minutes away from the Waianae Comp Health Center, 15-20 from the KoOlina/Disney/ Marriott complex, 30 minutes from Kapolei / Campbell Industrial Park (TAT #W(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). Guest AccessGuests have access to all the beach items including kayak, bikes, snorkel equipment, coolers, beach chairs, umbrellas, etc. Also access to coin -op washer and dryer, charcoal grill, and 1 covered parking space. Extra storage room is available if they need to store something large or have excessive baggage. They also have their own private access door to their unit, but it does share an outdoor back stairway with my door ( I try not to use the back stairway when guests are present so they feel more private). Interaction with GuestsI try to give the guests complete privacy and only come up to visit their space if they text or call me with a problem. I will be there to greet the guests and show them around, and if I cannot be there on arrival I will come up and greet them later. If it rains, guests have to take the chair cushions in off the lanai and sweep water off after the rain. I don't want them to feel uncomfortable thinking I might come up there and peek in their windows! If there is a special event going on in the area, I will stop up and invite them or at least make them aware of it. The NeighborhoodI like that you can walk to the beach, that my street is a circle so its pleasant to ride bikes on, and there are many colorful characters in my neighborhood and many pets. I also like that it is far from commercial activity. Getting AroundThere is a bus stop just a few hundreds yards away, but the bus does take a long time to get places. It is not too far for grocery shopping, but it takes about 1 1/2 hours to get to the main city , and if you want to take the bus to and from the airport, it requires an exchange to get onto another bus, and they only allow one small bag per person. Other Things to NoteOahu ordinances do not allow meals to be served to guests, and do not allow a full kitchen for ohana units. There is a full kitchenette for you to cook your own meals but not a full stove/oven (double burner hot plate instead of a stove top). Long term tenants (over 1 month) are expected to purchase their own toilet paper and incidentals beyond the arrival courtesy stocking. Coin-Op laundry in carport, requires 1.00 in quarters to wash or dry( the laundry detergent items are free for use) . No daily maid service.

The SpaceMakaha Beach Charming oceanfront studio cottage. The front yard is steps away from one of the world’s most beautiful sandy beaches, There is great snorkeling, swimming, boogie boarding right in front of the cottage, depending on the swell, of coarse. Surfers can paddle out to the break from the front yard. This is also a perfect place to relax or just enjoy the ocean views. There are spectacular sunsets just about every evening, early morning “full moon sets”, and occasional rainbows. (Makaha is on the dry side of the island). Watch dolphins, sea turtles and spouting whales from the front yard. This is truly a gorgeous place! The cottage is clean with off white tile throughout. There are two queen beds; one in the main studio and another in a screened porch sitting/sleeping room. Visitors can hear the ocean lapping on the sand from both rooms. A bathroom with a shower/bath tub connects the rooms from a patio. The street-side patio is very private and screened in. There is a dinning table with chairs on both patios as well as in the main studio. There is also a gas barbeque on the ocean side patio. Both patios are covered. Located one hour from Honolulu/Waikiki/North Shore, Makaha is close enough for day trips, but far enough away to enjoy a more natural, peaceful and casual Hawaii far away from the typical tourist hustle bustle. Makaha is known as the jewel of the Leeward Coast and offers magnificient natural beauty and island living with an authentic island style. Makaha is famous for it’s winter surfing, diving caves, turtles, dolphins, whales and spectacular sunsets. It is an uncrowded area and usually always has a lovely breeze coming down the valley. The majority of money earned from the cottage rental goes to my Honolulu cat and dog rescue sanctuary. I feed and house 40-50 cats that have been neutered and now have a happy home. The SpaceSpacious upstairs room located next to a kitchen with a bathroom just steps down the hall. Has mirrored door walk-in closet. This room is located in a home that is steps away from a bus stop that can take you all over the island. The warm, blue Pacific Ocean is 700 feet away where whales have been sighted from October to April every year. You can swim with the Dolphins just 2 miles down the road (for free). We have snorkel gear and an ocean kayak available for use with a deposit. Of course there are kitchen privileges with reasonable use of all common areas. We have a garden spa to soothe you after a day of surfing, snorkeling or hiking. Lots of fruit trees and garden greens for organic salads are available for our guests. Our goal is to provide safe, clean housing for all. Guest AccessYou will have access to 2 kitchens in which to cook and save some $ . There is a full bathroom upstairs and downstairs you may use. The SpaceAloha! Welcome to Sea Breeze B&B. On the westernmost part of Oahu (the Leeward side) is the Wai'anae Coast. It stretches 20 miles from the town of Nanakuli to Makaha. At the end of the island is the gorgeous Makua Beach. The Wai'anae Coast is about 30 miles from Honolulu. You will pass the Disney and Marriot Resorts in Ko'Olina, and quickly arrive where the local Hawaiians live. Wai'anae is not upscale. If you prefer a destination outside of the resort tourist bubble then it is a great location for you! We cannot accept reservations for less than 30 days per Honolulu zoning laws. There is a $75 cleaning fee upon check in and a $100 cleaning fee upon check out. It is 412 sq ft with a queen size, organic mattress in the bedroom (on the softer side- I think it's super cozy) and a full size pull out sofa bed in the living room (medium to firm- no springs!). There is an efficient split unit air conditioner, and a nice flat screen t.v. with cable. Guest AccessThere are two pools on the property. One in front of the condo, as pictured. Direct beach front access. I am more than happy to answer questions and help with suggestions. ************************************************** The NeighborhoodWai'anae is a blue collar neighborhood on the leeward coast of Oahu- it is a bit rough around the edges. The beauty of Wai'anae, and what I have come to really love is the complete lack of tourism in the area, and the breathtaking beaches here. You can travel to Waikiki, or Honolulu and essentially feel like you never left the mainland. Swarms of tourists on the beach, and mass retail. Okay to visit, but I love that Wai'anae offers a more authentic experience of the island. You can talk to locals and visit local establishments, getting a real feel for Hawaii. The beaches are among the best on the island. Ka'ena Point/Yokohama Bay are breathtaking and far less crowded. Makaha is world famous among surfers. Getting AroundThere is a bus that runs up and down Farrington Hwy. While not essential, I HIGHLY recommend a car to save time and hassle. Also for day trips to North Shore, etc. **Please NOTE: There is traffic in Hawaii! If you arrive during rush hour, I recommend getting dinner in Honolulu before driving westward to the condo. Makes life easier! Other Things to NoteIf you are looking for an authentic Hawaiian experience, away from mass tourism and beautiful, un-crowded beaches, Wai'anae is a fine choice. If you are a surfer, then you already know Makaha is paradise. ************************************************** Unfortunately, due to the size and layout, the condo is not well suited to those with restricted mobility. **There is a $500 security deposit, however no money is actually charged or held by Airbnb upon booking. The SpaceHale Aikāne, Home for Friends - The tropical apartment takes advantage of the ground floor of our home with a private entry and fenced in lanai in peaceful Wai'anae. This is definitely NOT in the city - normally quiet (only regular neighborhood noises like kids and dogs) and enough outdoor space for a family. When you take off your rubbah slippaz (flip-flops) upon entering, you'll enjoy an open plan room featuring large windows, a full kitchen, and family room followed by two bedrooms and a spacious bathroom all just 3/4 mile from the Poka'i Bay beach park. Your kitchen is well equipped with a full-size oven/stove, microwave, side-by-side fridge/freezer with ice-maker and cold water dispenser, and cupboards stocked with glasses and dishes and cutlery, cook and bakeware, kitchen tools galore, bar utensils, storage pieces, coffee maker, toaster, picnic supplies, and a few staples. The beach towels are waiting for you alongside your coolers, beach bags, and such that are available to borrow. Just ask us if you can't find what you need and we'll find a solution. If you need a rest from seeing this beautiful island, the family room provides a large flat-screen TV with HD cable, DVD player, surround-sound, and wii with balance board (bring your own games). You'll have wireless internet if you'd like to stay plugged-in. Ready to unplug? Borrowed a book from your shelf and relax on your lanai under the table shade or feel the warmth of the sun in your well-maintained yard - your choice. You can use your grill for dinner and make s'mores at your fire pit as well. Maybe star-gazing is your thing - this is a perfect place without light pollution. On the more practical side, your bathroom has a clean shower/tub, sink, and plenty of places to hang wet swimwear, toiletry bags, and towels. We've supplied you with towels, toilet paper, and a hair-dryer. The ironing board is found in a bedroom closet. There is no A/C, but our Wai'anae Valley wind is usually enough to keep you cool. You'll have ceiling fans and other fans if needed. One bedroom has two windows and a queen size Sleep Number bed (each side can be customized to your preferred firmness). Bedroom two has two twin beds that we can make into one king bed. Please let us know your preference so we can have the room ready to your liking. You'll find two shelving units in the apartment for storing your groceries, souvenirs, gifts, and such. There is a large shelf in the bathroom to store your empty suitcases out of your way. You can live out of your suitcase or unpack and be at home. We have an HE front loading wash machine just around the side of the house from your door and we use solar to dry (clothes lines - faster than a dryer). Hungry? Wai'anae has two grocery stores, a drug store open 24 hours, chain fast-food places, and many family-owned restaurants featuring menus of Hawaiian, Korean, Chinese, Puerto Rican, or mainland American foods. Ko 'Olina, just 11 miles away, provides the nearest fine dining with reservations highly recommended. Dining in Honolulu is feasible with a 45+ minute drive. Speaking of driving... Hale Aikāne is 36 miles from Honolulu. In rush times (6-8:30 am; 3:30-6 pm), that means between one and a half and two hours driving each way. During the rest of the day, you'll take only 45 to 60 minutes. We're 45 minutes from the airport. Kapolei (O'ahu's second city) is 20 minutes away and has Target, WalMart, Costco (cheapest for groceries), mainland style grocery stores, department stores, nicer dining, three cinemas, and more of a mainland feel overall. If golf is your thing, Makaha Golf course is 10 minutes drive from here and other courses can be found within a 30-minute drive. No car? From your apartment, it's a 10-minute walk to the Wai'anae bus terminal for express buses into Honolulu. The local bus line picks up at the end of our road. It's nice to drive to the beach so you can take more stuff, but the walk is short as well. The only complaint about this rental is the distance, but the price reflects that reality. Driving any place on Oahu can be a challenge some days and not others. This is more obvious in areas such as the quiet leeward coast in which we have one-way in and one-way out. For most days, this is fine except during rush hour. Planning accordingly will help you avoid this issue. Otherwise, before booking, consider how often and what times you will want to go far and this may not be the place for you. This home is suited for those who want to enjoy Hawaii's nature, peace, and local people. Honolulu is better if you prefer instant access to the excitement and activities of a crowded city with an international flair of tourists. The windward coast is better if you prefer a mainland vibe and mostly caucasian transplants to this state. We have local knowledge and your apartment has many guidebooks. The SpaceWould you like to escape to the country ? Then come out to stay with us on the beautiful West Coast of Oahu. You will have a private room in a brand new 4 bedroom home which has a stunning view of the surf break at Makaha Beach. It is 9/10 of a mile straight up the hill from that beach. There are 1 - 1/2 shared bathrooms for our guests and 2 kitchens, cable TV, and Wifi access. The home is in a safe, gated community within walking distance to a bus stop. I try to give all our guests the "Nickel Tour" of the coastline, showing them hidden secret places that you will not see on a map. This is the dryer side of Oahu which translates into more days to play outdoors..... We'll show you where to swim with the "locals"...Turtles, Dolphins, and various Tropical Fish. We will loan you snorkel equipment, beach towels and even an ocean kayak, if you'd like. During the winter months, you may even catch a whale breaching or just cruising along the west coast. You can hike or bike the numerous trails and mountains that are within walking distance to the house. Wild Spinner dolphins are very popular around our beaches. Most Dolphin tours start from the local Waianae boat Harbor. You are guaranteed to see the dolphins around. Needless to say, but there are lots of snorkeling spots all around us. Makaha beach park which is walk-able from our house has lots of turtles you could watch in their natural habitat. Getting AroundWhile we are about an hour away from the airport and Waikiki, the public transportation in Hawaii is one of the best. Ofcourse the traffic is unfortunately one of the worst. Once you get here, you will be glad you came away from all the traffic and into the natures best preserved pristine beaches. You have access to the local bus that takes you to the downtown if you need to go use public transportation.

This home consists of 2200 sq. ft -- 1550 sq. ft 3BR 2BA on the second level (main house) and an additional 800 sq. ft 2BR 1.5 BA on the first level (ohana unit or in-law suite with separate entrance). The main house is upstairs; three bedrooms, two full baths, great for two families. Well stocked kitchen, living room, fully-furnished with cotton sheets, beach towels. Comfortably sleeps up to 10. Updated in November 2016 with new living room, family room, and dining room furniture. Three king size beds-one in each bedroom, and two full size sofa beds with 3" memory foam toppers in the family room. We also have a single futon mattress and 2 pack-n-plays. The ohana unit (in-law suite) downstairs consists of two bedrooms and 1.5 baths (comfortably sleeps up to 6). Full wet bar (a kitchen without a stove or oven), living room, fully-furnished with cotton sheets, beach towels. This host likes to take her guests on a free tour of this coastal area to give them ideas of things to see and do on the West side of Oahu. This may include snorkeling, swimming with the dolphins and turtles, surfing, stand-up paddling and just plain relaxing on our beautiful beaches. The Space**** Please contact us before booking our home and read this entire description so that you make an informed booking. ***** A friend described our home as a rustic ski chalet set directly on tropical shores! Ocean and coconut trees outside; snowshoes (authentic) inside! Large private back yard enclosed by lava stone wall and lush tropical trees. Dive charter boats use our house as their marker to drop anchor. We know their captains. Makaha bay and beach are three properties down. Two bedrooms upstairs with a third bedroom downstairs. Large kitchen with a wrap-around counter and bar stools spilling into the living room. An outdoor cat that we ask not to feed or let in! He knows the rules and will sit at the screen door and ask for snuggles. Italian Leather couch that is starting to fade from all the sun in less than two years. This is our home and not everything is perfect but the private oceanfront location and view certainly are! So is the climate: this is the driest and warmest side of the island. We get 10% of the rain compared to the windward side. Most of the time, when it rains in town (Waikiki), Makaha is sunny. Makaha Beach, the first big wave beach to be discovered in Hawaii, is three properties down. If you are looking to party... then you picked the wrong location. Makaha is a tranquil outpost and is the perfect place to relax, swim, surf, golf, and hike. Getting AroundA bus stop is one block away. Express Bus C can take you all the way to Honolulu and Waikiki (Ala Moana). Even though it is an express bus, it will take about 1.5 hours. A rental car is very convenient! Other Things to NoteWe pay our taxes and keep legit. Please do not contact us for "cash" or other off-site deals . Hawaii State law requires us to charge a 4.7% General Excise Tax and a 8.3% Hawaii transient accommodations tax that we collect at check-in. You can pay using cash or personal check. Please do not bring more guests (including day visitors) than you booked. If we are on the property, a small friendly dog, Tsuki, is often with us. A second cat lives in an attached storage room (not accessible to guests) and is fed by us and our visiting host. Condiments, hot sauce, and other commonly used, slow-to-perish foods are left in the fridge on purpose for guest use. Locked storage rooms and sheds are not available to the guests. This is our home and most of the year we live in it. We have cleared most of our personal belongings but you will still find that each closet has some person items or clothes pushed to one side, etc. Our home is very large for the number of people (usually 4 - 6) that we allow. It is close to the Kaena Point Natural Preserve with protected Hawaiian endemic species, Pokai Bay where fishing and diving charters depart every day, and near the Disney and Ko Olina resorts if you get bored and want to enjoy some fine dining. 20 min from the Waikele Outlet Mall for those who like shopping and 40 miles from Waikiki and Honolulu. The apartment is comfortable for 1-2 people, but you can entertain at the BBQ and pool common area. Even if you don't surf, spending some time at the beach is amazing. Kaena Point is also incredible, especially considering it is on O'ahu, the same island with Waikiki, Honolulu, Pearl Harbor, North Shore, and I'olani Palace. I think anyone staying here should go there at least once, and also be sure to take a hike in different parts of the island to appreciate the biodiversity. Getting AroundThe City Bus passes along the two-land road leading past the apartment complex, but it is 40 miles to the other side of the island (Kailua-Kaneohe). Renting a car is recommended, one parking stall is included in the rental in a shaded area. If you are coming directly from the airport, it is probably best to order a taxi shuttle if you don't have a car. In Waianae, there are rental shops for bikes and other water sports, Tamura's supermarket, 24-hour Longs Drugs and restaurants. Other Things to NoteThe Aloha spirit is alive and well in Hawai'i. You will receive aloha as much as you give it. Expect to be pleasantly surprised by random acts of kindness. Living here is like staying at the North Shore 20 years ago--not overdeveloped yet!

The SpaceThis lovely custom treetop apartment is situated over a garage ( no cars go in and out of this garage, it is storage only) next to the main house on the property. Just a short walk to the beach without having to cross any streets! 2 bedrooms ( 1 queen bed in each) , a full bath, an open floor plan living room with full kitchen nook, and a beautiful second floor outdoor deck in the treetops. Private entrance and shared driveway, with laundry facilities right at the bottom of your stairway! It can comfortably sleep 4 people, 5 may fit if one is a small child. Please note that Makaha is in West Oahu--- it is about 1 hour west of the tourist area of Honolulu/Waikiki... if you are looking for the city life, this place is not for you. But for general shopping, we are only 15-20 min away from the "second city" of Kapolei. (We DO have a small grocery store and an oceanfront restaurant, with bands at night, just 2-3 miles down the road!). Explore Waikiki; a 45 minute drive, close enough for an excursion, but far enough to escape the commotion of the city. This is a lovely ocean view bungalow style home set in a Hawaiian neighborhood on the West side of Oahu. Ocean access is less than a mile away (walking distance) and world renowned Makaha surfing beach is approx. 2 miles away. The space features a large screen TV, a second TV on the lanai, gas grill, remote control split air conditioning unit, washer and dryer,laundry soap, wireless internet access, and all the comforts of home including shampoo, conditioner, soap/body wash, lotion, toothpaste, q-tips, cotton balls, lint brush, wash cloths, spray deodorant, paper towels, toilet paper, and bath towels. The kitchen is fully equipped for cooking and baking and has a french press, coffee bean grinder, toaster, rice cooker, and a teapot. The studio also includes beach towels, beach chairs and coolers. One boogie board is in the studio (free) and a stand up board is available (for a fee) upon request as well as a one man canoe (for a fee). We hope that our guests will completely enjoy their stay on our Western shores. We are available at any time for questions, directions and suggestions. Oahu's Leeward or Waianae Coast remains largely undiscovered by the vast majority of tourists to the island. Leeward Waianae Coast extends from Kaena Point to Barbers Point and has conditions similar to the North Shore with big surf in the winter but suitable swimming conditions in summer, spring and fall. The Makua Valley which, at one time before Western contact, had a thriving Hawaiian community is home to numerous endangered species of plants and animals and sites sacred to the native Hawaiian people. The U.S. military's use of the valley remains a source of contention between native Hawaiians and the government. Also in the Makaha Valley is the restored Kane'aki Heiau. Built over 300 years ago, the temple was dedicated to Lono, the Hawaiian god of harvest and fertility. The heiau is open to the public on Tuesdays through Sundays from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. You will need a rent a car to really enjoy all that Oahu has to offer. Ko Olina Resort is a short 15 minute drive in the direction of Waikiki. There you will find numerous restaurants and nightspots to enjoy. The Ihilani hotel located within the resort has a wonderful cocktail bar nightly at 6:00 pm with live music most nights. Yard is currently still undergoing a transformation. It is about an hour away from Waikiki, for those looking for a quiet, relaxing getaway, far from the hustle and bustle and the tourist crowds. Getting AroundThere are bus stops at the end of the street, approximately a 1 to 2 minute walk from the house. This unit comes with 2 parking stalls. Getting to the property is rather easy, simply get on the H1 west bound freeway until you reach Makona street, turn right, then drive a short distance to the private lane, where the house will be the third house on the right, which is almost all the way at the end of the private lane. Other Things to NoteThis house is located in a private road on the West side of Oahu, which is very country. There are even wild chickens seen running around. There is a supermarket and small markets within a few minutes drive. Ko'Olina with their beautiful lagoons and Aulani Resort is located about 15 minutes away by car. This is definitely NOT in the city - quiet (only regular neighborhood noises like kids and dogs) and enough outdoor space for a family. When you take off your rubbah slippaz (flip-flops) upon entering, you'll enjoy an open plan room featuring many large windows, a full kitchen and family room followed by two bedrooms and a spacious bathroom all just 3/4 mile from the Poka'i Bay beach park. Your kitchen is well equipped with a full size oven/stove, microwave, side-by-side fridge/freezer with ice-maker and cold water dispenser, and cupboards stocked with glasses and dishes and cutlery, cook and bake ware, kitchen tools from simple knives to a mandolin, bar utensils, storage pieces, coffee maker, toaster, picnic supplies, and a few staples. The beach towels are waiting for you along side your coolers, beach bags, boogie boards, and such that are available to borrow. Just ask us if you can't find what you need and we'll find a solution. If you need a rest from seeing this beautiful island, the family room provides a large flat-screen TV with HD cable, DVD player, surround-sound, and wii with balance board (bring your own games). You'll have wireless internet if you'd like to stay plugged-in. Ready to unplug? Borrowed a book from your shelf and relax on your lanai under the table shade or feel the warmth of the sun in your well maintained yard - your choice. You can use your grill for dinner and make s'mores at your fire pit as well. Maybe star-gazing is your thing - perfect place without light pollution. The other bedroom has a queen Sleep Number bed featuring separate controls for each side of the bed in one remote. You'll have another custom closet and your own smaller, wall mounted flat screen with cable. You'll find three shelving units in the apartment for storing your groceries, souvenirs, gifts, and such. You can live out of your suitcase or unpack and be at home. We have an HE front loading wash machine just around the side of the house from your door and we use solar to dry (clothes lines - faster than a dryer). Hungry? Wai'anae has two grocery stores, a drug store open 24 hours, chain fast-food places, and many family owned restaurants featuring menus of Hawaiian, Korean, Chinese, Puerto Rican, Italian, or mainland American foods. Ko 'Olina, just 11 miles away, provides the nearest fine dining with reservations highly recommended. Dining in Honolulu is feasible with a 45 minute drive. Speaking of driving... Hale Aikane is 36 miles from Honolulu. In rush times (6-8:30am; 3:30-6pm), that means between one and a half and two hours driving each way. During the rest of the day you'll take only - 45 to 60 minutes. We're 45 minutes from the airport. Kapolei (O'ahu's second city) is 20 minutes away and has Target, WalMart, Costco (cheapest for groceries), nicer dining, a cinema, and more of a mainland feel. If golf is your thing, Makaha Golf course is 10 minutes drive from here and other courses can be found within a 30 minute drive. No car? From your apartment, it's a 10 minute walk to the Wai'anae bus terminal for express buses into Honolulu. The local bus line picks up at the end of our road. It's nice to drive to the beach so you can take more stuff, but the walk is short as well. We have local knowledge of places to hike, fish, snorkel, SCUBA, or see local history. Your apartment has many guidebooks. We love living in paradise and enjoy sharing that blessing. We're available to help you in the evening and even during the day as we homeschool so we're home more than most... or you'll find us at the bay.             Maili Cove is a 62 unit condo on the less traveled leeward coast of O`ahu. 6 miles north of Disney's new Aulani Resort in Ko Olina. This groundfloor oceanfront 1 bedroom/1 bath unit features two queen size Murphy beds with comfortable mattresses. Sleep on the Murphy bed in the living room and listen to the soft sound of the waves lull you to sleep every night. The condo has a full kitchen including a dishwasher and microwave, cable tv in the living room and bedroom, wifi. All towels, beach towels and linens. The complex features an oceanfront heated saltwater pool, 4 bbq grills to cook all your island favorites and a coin operated laundry room. It is located on Ma`ili Beach, a two mile long stretch of golden sand where you may see humpback whales (in season,) the critically endangered Hawaiian monk seal and honu (turtles.) North of the building there are no other structures for over a mile of beachfront. A block to the south is Ma`ili Point with a surf break. Early morning you may be the first person to put footprints in the sand. Travel two miles up the coast to Pokai Bay, which is a very protected beach excellent for swimming, stand up paddling and often frequented by spinner dolphins. There are canoe clubs at this beach, along with the Army Rec Center where you can enjoy a meal while watching the sunset or enjoy libations to entertainment several nights each week. Further north is beautiful Makaha Beach which may have been the birthplace of surfing. Located 25 miles west of the Honolulu airport and an hour outside of Waikiki, the slow pace of the leeward coast will bring you the peace, serenity and the beauty of the Hawaiian islands. However, if you want to enjoy the fast pace and tourist attractions of Honolulu and Waikiki, they are a short drive away. Ko Olina has blossomed with the opening of the Aulani, and the lagoons and golf are a few minutes away. Kapolei, O`ahu's second city is 10 miles away for shopping, dining and the Wet'n Wild water park. Come stay, play, relax and unwind at our oceanfront sunset paradise. A car rental is almost required (and i can give you some good options for rentals,) although The Bus (the public transportation on O`ahu) has a stop at Farrington and St. Johns Rd, including the express bus to Ala Moana Mall. (Please note that The Bus does not allow luggage.) There is no charge for parking in the assigned stall for our unit. There are additional visitor parking spots which are charged $5/night after the first 3 nights. The best sunset dining on the coast is at the Army Rec Center near Pokai Bay. They also have entertainment and dancing several nights per week. Please be sure to bring your identification for admittance onto this military installation. Unless you are military or a veteran with military i.d., you will not be permitted to park on property - there is off site parking to the left of the guard gate. There are many fine restaurants in Ko Olina - including Roy's, Merriman's Monkeypod Cafe, Chuck's Steakhouse and many other restaurants in the Aulani and Ihilani resorts. Some of the restaurants and lounges also have nightly entertainment. Ko Olina is also home to the Paradise Cove luau, 4 lagoons, golf and a boat harbor for whale/dolphin watch, snorkeling or fishing charters.
