The SpaceThis shared home experience allows you to have a large private bedroom with a queen memory foam bed and a bathroom ensuite. If you have additional guests I have another guest room with a new full sized bed and another room which is an office where I can either pull out the new hide a bed or blow up the queen air mattress. The pet in the home is a leopard gecko.
Although I have central air, I have a window unit installed in case you would like it cooler. Please feel welcome to use the large deck under a canopy of trees, private off street parking, a sun room, dining room, basement laundry and modern kitchen on the main floor. While I will be in and out my 6 and 4 year old boys will be with me at times. We do not hang in the house often as we are not a TV watching family and they are with their dad at times too.
Free wifi, central air and heat, laundry, toys for kids and TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime in the shared area.
This home is gorgeous, clean and homey. You will be near all of the historic sites and less than three blocks from Lincoln Tomb. Every Tuesday at 7pm from May till the end of August there is a flag lowering performed by the 114th reenacted with a 21 black powdered gun salute finished with a booming shot from a period cannon.
There is an extra mini fridge you may have to yourself and the kitchen is stocked with utensils and spices. You may also use the large gas grill.
There is nothing like this outdoor space from Spring till Fall. Mature maples, weeping birch, Japenese maples, redbud, flowering pear and others provide a cool canopy. Sitting around the deck gives you calm as you take in the neighborhood beauty. There will always be a friendly wave as I'm the neighborhood president of Lincoln Park Neighborhood, where everyone is like family.
We are also walking distance to Lincoln Park where there is an outdoor pool, two indoor ice rinks, two playgrounds, a lagoon you may fish in and great walking or running trails. Guest AccessYou have use of the large upstairs bedroom and bathroom ensuite. There is a smaller guest room available with a new full sized bed and the office with both a queen air mattress or pull out sleeper sofa too if you should have more than two guests. Downstairs you may share the sun room, kitchen, deck, dining room, basement laundry and downstairs bathroom. We primarily use the full bath downstairs so you may have primary use of the one upstairs. You are welcome to the laundry in the basement.
You can park in the driveway and enter in through the side door into the mud room. Contact me prior to arrival for directions on where to obtain the key. Interaction with GuestsI'm happy to guide, answer or direct any of your questions. If I'm not able to meet you upon arrival I will send you detailed instructions. I will be around at some point each day, I work during the day and am usually hosting neighbors on Monday, taking the boys to "choice night" on Tuesdays, meetings on Wednesday, fun night Thursday night and the weekends depend on if I have my boys or not. I am versed in the history of Oak Ridge Cemetery and am happy to help guide your travels.
While there are TVs in the home, they don't get used, one is in the shared space that I do turn on for the boys at times. If you are looking to spend your time in front of the TV, another listing might be advisable. The NeighborhoodOne of the first neighborhoods in Springfield, Lincoln Park Neighborhood. We have homes dating back to 1850 with most of them built in early 1900. The trees are mature and plenty. We all know each other and it is extremely safe. Lincoln Park is to the north and Oak Ridge is to the west. We are also very close to the Illinois State Fairgrounds. The most social farmers market is held at the fairgrounds every Thursday night from April until October, featuring Illinois products including wine and beer. Live music each Thursday. Getting AroundYou will be able to park in my driveway, there are four spots for parking. The bus drops off at 4th and North Grand, so just a block away. Using Uber is the cheapest and easiest. You can walk to Oak Ridge Cemetery where the Lincoln Tomb is located. Downtown is less than two miles away and the airport is about ten minutes away. Other Things to NoteThis is a very large room perfectly located to Oak Ridge Cemetery and downtown sites. We are home so seldom you will feel like the house is yours. The extra bedroom is super cute and has a comfy air mattress. If you are a dedicated TV watcher, there is not cable, but Amazon Prime on the TV in the shared space downstairs.
